Skeptical Climate Documentary Set to Rock Climate Debate

From CFACT:

President Obama & World Leaders to Be Greeted By New Film Debuting in Paris

Gala Paris red carpet premiere for new “Climate Hustle” skeptical documentary

Cinéma du Panthéon, December 7, 7:30 PM

climate-hustle

(Sorbonne, Paris) CFACT will hold the world premiere of its long-awaited Climate Hustle skeptical documentary film at an invitation-only red carpet event in Paris during the UN’s COP 21 international summit on climate change.

Featuring interviews and comments from more than 30 renowned scientists and climate experts,Climate Hustle lays out compelling evidence that devastates the global warming scare.  Film host Marc Morano, founder and publisher of CFACT’s award-winning Climate Depot news and information service, leads viewers on a fact-finding and often times hilarious journey through the propaganda-laced world of “climate change” claims.

The film is the first climate documentary to profile scientists who have reversed their views from supporting the so-called “consensus” position to a conversion to skepticism. The film also profiles politically left scientists who have now declared themselves skeptics of man-made global warming and United Nations scientists who have now turned against the UN for “distorting” climate science.

David Rothbard, CFACT president and executive producer of the film says, “Climate Hustle is the most important climate documentary since Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth.  Gore’s film kicked off a decade of scaremongering junk science.  CFACT’s film debunks the scare and clears the way for a return to sound science and rational debate.”

Nationally syndicated columnist Cal Thomas calls Climate Hustle “tremendous” and says “anyone who still believes in ‘climate change’ after watching this film needs the type of reprogramming given to cult members.”

Noted climatologist Dr. Judith Curry of the Georgia Institute of Technology, who is featured in the film, adds “Climate Hustle is a refreshing and entertaining antidote to the sillier and alarming claims about climate change and its impacts that people regularly hear from politicians and the media.”

“Climate Hustle” will premiere at the Cinéma du Panthéon, beside the Sorbonne, on Monday, December 7. A red-carpet ceremony and champagne reception will take place at 7:30 p.m. prior to the screening. The film is planned for theatrical and home video release in 2016.

Because of very limited space, credentialed media that wish to attend the event should RSVP in advance to Christina Norman of CFACT (cwilson@cfact.org or phone (651) 724-4228).   Climate Hustle’s host, Marc Morano, along with key scientists from the film, will be available for a short time on the red carpet prior to the event at 7 p.m. and are also available for interviews and comments upon request.

Climate Hustle, a production of CFACT, was fully funded by the support of roughly 1,500 citizen supporters.   More information is available at www.ClimateHustle.com/press

Agreed. Some “believe” because all they’ve heard is the hype. They think the science really is “settled” or at least honest and sound.

The film is the first climate documentary to profile scientists who have reversed their views from supporting the so-called “consensus” position to a conversion to skepticism.

I suspect many of them accepted it because the papers were “peer-reviewed”. Not by them, but they appeared in a publication they respected. Bias behind the scenes was not suspected.
I suspect that something or someone caught their attention and prompted many of those featured to take the time to “review” things themselves. Hence, they are now suspect of the hype.
We need more to take their route.
Some in the audience will dare to do so.

Indeed Greg. Even if they somehow managed to get it shown in the conference room itself, it wouldn’t get any of the attendees to change their plans as it’s not about the science and never was. It’s all about money and control.

Why the Paris COP21 talks are happening:
“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.”
— H. L. Mencken
US editor (1880 – 1956).
With the above quote from Mencken in mind though, I still hold out hope that this film might do some good — at least after its theatrical release.

Other than the obvious danger of violating the public trust, one should be very cautious of the economic fallout that can occur from a ruse that is unraveled quickly. If Wall Street senses uncertainty in the corrupted scheme, the exodus could easily trigger a 2008 redux.
You’ll notice that many regions (and biz) in the States are already in planning mode to comply with the current national energy plan. This website gives a taste for the kinds of cooperative events they are planning.

Here are quotations on truth from Mencken:

The curse of man, and the cause of nearly all his woes, is his stupendous capacity for believing the incredible. He is forever embracing delusions, and each new one is worse than all that have gone before.
—H.L. Mencken, In Defense of Women
The most costly of all follies is to believe passionately in the palpably not true. It is the chief occupation of mankind.
—H.L. Mencken
The truth, indeed, is something that mankind, for some mysterious reason, instinctively dislikes. Every man who tries to tell it is unpopular, and even when, by the sheer strength of his case, he prevails, he is put down as a scoundrel.
—H.L. Mencken
What is not true, as everyone knows, is always immensely more fascinating and satisfying to the vast majority of men than what is true. Truth has a harshness that alarms them, and an air of finality that collides with their incurable romanticism.
—H.L. Mencken
The believing mind is externally impervious to evidence. The most that can be accomplished with it is to induce it to substitute one delusion for another. It rejects all overt evidence as wicked…
—H.L. Mencken
For every complex problem, there is a solution that is simple, neat, and wrong.
—H.L. Mencken
The kind of man who wants the government to adopt and enforce his ideas is always the kind of man whose ideas are idiotic.
—H.L. Mencken
No one ever heard of the truth being enforced by law. Whenever the secular arm is called in to sustain an idea, whether new or old, it is always a bad idea, and not infrequently it is downright idiotic.
—H.L. Mencken
The men the American people admire most extravagantly are the most daring liars; the men they detest most violently are those who try to tell them the truth.
—H.L. Mencken
Platitude [aka settled science]: an idea (a) that is admitted to be true by everyone, and (b) that is not true.
—H.L. Mencken
The final test of truth is ridicule. Very few dogmas have ever faced it and survived.
—H.L. Mencken
Truth—Something somehow discreditable to someone.
—H.L. Mencken
Nine times out of ten, in the arts as in life, there is actually no truth to be discovered; there is only error to be exposed. In whole departments of human inquiry it seems to me quite unlikely that the truth ever will be discovered.
—H.L. Mencken

Judging from his quotes above, Mencken appears to have been a man who understood human character and behavior beyond his years. His quotes can easily apply not just to CAGW today, but also the wind and solar energy folly as well. Uncanny.

Trailer #1 (the top one w/ the Statue of Liberty) is just fine. Powerful images, one powerful message: “All those scare stories were a bunch of B.S..”
Trailer #2 — IS “awful.” Marc Morano looks great — nice photos of him and good to feature such a Warrior for Truth in Science, HOWEVER, the dated music stinks. Just plain dumb (music).
GO, CFACT, et. al., (including Anthony Watts)!
Looking forward to watching the entire video. Looks like it will be a good one.
While there are, indeed, Greg Woods, not many people on the red and violet ends of the spectrum (i.e., those who are cynically or blindly devoted to AGW for money or pseudo-religious reasons on the red end and those who know what the science facts about CO2 are on the violet end) who are undecided, there are quite a few people in the yellow-green area who are simply ignorant, with no opinion at all. This video looks like a good education for them. It is also a good resource for us science realists to use to get the word out.

Greg Woods “I wonder just how many people are undecided about global warming?”
I think the answer is very very many! But it isn’t that they are undecided because they do not have enough information from us or brains to assess it, they are undecided because they do not care about it and therefore do not realize how much the scam is affecting them financially.
Remember the old anti-dope TV PSA with the fried egg – “This is your brain; this is your brain on drugs.”?
Something like – “This is how much lower your electric and heating bills would be without a fake “green” agenda to vilify CO2.” (Answer revealed inside a watermelon being cut in half – green on the outside, red on the inside…)

Consider the American Revolution. You can’t get a much clearer dichotomy than rebelling against the Crown. It isn’t widely known other than by professional historians, but the American population was basically one third in favor of the rebellion, one third loyal to the Crown, and one third, “don’t bother me”. I’d guess that the middle ground of “don’t know, don’t care” is much wider for climate change. Start talking about how much money the watermelons intend to lift from their wallet and I bet a lot of people will start to pay much closer attention.

This is worth reading:
Richard Lindzen, Will Happer and Patrick Moore:
http://icecap.us/index.php/go/joes-blog/prominent_scientists_declare_climate_claims_ahead_of_un_summit_irrational_b/
MIT Climate Scientist Dr. Richard Lindzen: ‘Demonization of CO2 is irrational at best and even modest warming is mostly beneficial.’ – ‘When someone says this is the warmest temperature on record. What are they talking about? It’s just nonsense. This is a very tiny change period.’
Princeton Physicist Dr. Will Happer: ‘Policies to slow CO2 emissions are really based on nonsense. We are being led down a false path. To call carbon dioxide a pollutant is really Orwellian. You are calling something a pollutant that we all produce. Where does that lead us eventually?’
Greenpeace Co-Founder Dr. Patrick Moore: ‘We are dealing with pure political propaganda that has nothing to do with science.’

The real sh!t-hits-the-fan moment will come when large numbers of people begin to realize how completely they have been lied to, and what the real reasons are for the lies.
That is when the anger will begin, and if there is any justice at all, it will be pitchfork and torch toting mobs with kettles of hot tar for the warmistas.
The longer it is before a day of reckoning, the worse it will be for the climate liars and thieves.
I expect it is entirely possible that that day will come after some very bad disaster…like widespread blackouts during a brutal cold snap and blizzard, or else rioting and looting on a massive and widespread
scale when plant closures cause the entire grid to collapse some hot summer night.

I can assure you that nothing at all will happen. We are always discovering how massively we have been lied to, at every turn and juncture. Our response is to grin sheepishly, check our bank accounts, and listen again to the Who singing ‘wont get fooled again’ knowing full well that that too, is just another lie.
We live, and for most of us, we have no choice but to live, in an emotional narrative constructed of a tissue of lies.
To know the truth, is depressing and not conducive to survival, mostly. Only occasionally does it become useful.
Darwin, remember is not about survival of the fittest, but about eradication of the truly dysfunctional.
Most people neither know nor care about human influence on Climate. They are far more worried about the fact their primary school is now full of people who speak a foreign language. Or whether the latest celebrity smash hit is attractive or not.
The movers and shakers dont care either. All they want is a tool to use to move and shake profit out of a system they didn’t build and dont understand and care even less for.
So long as AGW is useful, they will promote it.
No, all that will happen – and its happening now in many places – is that profit will leach out of Green issues, and they will be quietly abandoned. I am seeing this now. The very few zealots will be sacrificed, as the Nazi chiefs were at Nuremberg, but all the green ‘SS’ and concentration camp guards of the Eco movement will be left bleating that they were ‘only following orders’ and those that waved their fists and goose-stepped along with the sheep at the Al Gore Nuremberg rallies will deny they were ever there, and they really had lots of Jewish friends. Sorry, sceptical friends.
Excuses will be made, serious flaws will be ‘found’ in the science, so subtle that anyone could have been forgiven for not spotting them, and so everyone will be…and the focus will, as it already is, shift from climate as the Great Bogeyman Of Our Time, to something else. Probably Islamic fundamentalism, or the collapse of international banking (again).
To control a population you need an emotional narrative that contains lots of warm comfortable assurances, and the veiled threat of Something Really Nasty, just behind it.

We’re so used to “science” proving anything that it’s unlikely this will register. Even the MSM jokes about the latest paper telling us that this week it’s safe to eat butter while last week it wasn’t. Scientists are often figures of fun, patronised because their earnest pronouncements this week will be overtaken next week by a new discovery. Either that or their area of research is so niche that nobody cares.
And of course politicians aren’t believed by anyone ever. So if they change their minds it won’t make a difference.
So when it’s finally accepted generally that AGW is false, it’ll just be another “Scientists, huh? What can you do with them?” moment and we’ll carry on.
The only people who will be rioting will be the AGW activists and Occupy-ers who will demand to be heard, given equal airtime, etc, etc. But hopefully that won’t last long.
But TBH I’m not holding my breath. Those activists have such a strong hold, and the desire of politicians to be seen to be doing something, mean that AGW will continue for some time yet.

One of the most powerful motivators of the human condition is to belong. CAGW crept into the group consciousness mostly because it catered to an individual’s desire to be part of something that was good. A desire to make the world a better place has been around as long as man has walked the planet.
The desire to not be tricked, fooled or embarrassed is also a seminal motivation of the human condition. Once the true believer senses a hoax, they become possessed in the pursuit of wanting to know.
The documentary doesn’t have to convert.
It just has to plant the seed, the question, the doubt.
Rekindle the thought process.
The public is way smarter than they are given create for being.
Good luck to it.
Once the doc is released, places like WUWT will see an uptick in viewing. The interest will provide an opportunity to assist the viewer in understanding the ruse. There are some great communicators here who couple scientific rigor with an eye for fallacy. I hope that they take the opportunity to help that seed grow.
The science is overwhelmingly on your side. While you will occasionally meander into politics, religion and any number of distracting topics please remember that the science IS your most powerful tool. Your opponents know this and will intentionally drag you into those more emotional topics.

December 2, 2015 10:57 am

Once the True Believer gets a good dose of “wtf”, it’s often helpful to point them in a direction for things that matter. While CAGW has been sucking on the collective attention of people, other more important environmental problems have unfolded.
For instance, this is a completely preventable catastrophe.

At last something on the big screen. If the package is up to snuff it will be referred to and used for education far more than any published paper.
It also serves as a counterpoint for Al Gore’s movie. Students should compare them, whether to prove one false (in the beginning we don’t know which one) or to learn that not everything that comes out of Hollywood is true.

The climate models on which the Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming delusion rests are built without regard to the natural 60 and 1000 year periodicities so obvious in the temperature record. This is exactly like taking the temperature trend from say Feb – July and projecting it ahead linearly for 20 years or so. Models are back tuned for less than 150 years when the relevant time scale is millennial. The temperature projections of the IPCC – UK Met office models and all the impact studies which derive from them have no foundation in empirical science being derived from inherently useless and specifically structurally flawed models. They provide no basis for the discussion of future climate trends. As a foundation for Governmental climate and energy policy their forecasts are already seen to be grossly in error. A new forecasting paradigm needs to be adopted. For forecasts of the timing and extent of the coming cooling based on the natural solar activity cycles – most importantly the millennial cycle – and using the neutron count and 10Be record as the most useful proxy for solar activity check my blog-post at http://climatesense-norpag.blogspot.com/2014/07/climate-forecasting-meth
The most important factor in climate forecasting is where earth is in regard to the quasi- millennial natural solar activity cycle which has a period in the 960 – 1020 year range. For evidence of this cycle see Figs 5-9. From Fig 9 it is obvious that the earth is just approaching ,just at or just past a peak in the millennial cycle. I suggest that more likely than not the general trends from 1000- 2000 seen in Fig 9 will likely generally repeat from 2000-3000 with the depths of the next LIA at about 2650. The best proxy for solar activity is the neutron monitor count and 10 Be data. Based on the Oulu neutron count – Fig 14 the solar activity millennial maximum peaked in Cycle 22 in about 1991. There is a varying lag between the change in the in solar activity and the change in the different temperature metrics. There is a 12 year delay between the activity peak and the probable millennial cyclic temperature peak seen in the RSS data in 2003. http://www.woodfortrees.org/plot/rss/from:1980.1/plot/rss/from:1980.1/to… There is likely to be a steepening of the cooling trend in 2017- 2018 corresponding to the very important Ap index break below all recent base values in 2005-6. Fig 13.

Just trying to raise awareness a few steps ahead.

the circus is never over–once the silly warming”threat” is finally laid to rest, it will be catastrophic anthropogenic global cooling all over again.
yes, most of humanity does not give this much (if any) thought–will not until the PWB, if successful, cause the price of energy to skyrocket and have to deal with constant rolling blackouts due to unpredictable nature of “renewable” , and the lack of enough fossil fueled backup.
first trailer–OK, second hurt my ears (fresh batteries) and made me wince.

“catastrophic anthropogenic global cooling” (CAGC)
1970s CAGC
1980s thru 20__ CAGW
20__ thru 20__ CAGC
Bernays would be proud.
Dangerous Climate Change (DCC) is an appeal to fear for all seasons.
Dangerous Climate Stasis (DCS) gets no play to the emotions.

Hopefully the tone of the trailers does not reflect that of the documentary itself; otherwise viewers will have no doubt the doc was indeed funded by concerned citizens and not produced by professional documentarians. I don’t like what appears to be attempts to skewer the messengers; instead I would prefer making arguments in favor of the null hypothesis being climate is driven by natural cycles, and showing the difference between causation and correlation. BBC’s Planet Earth comes to mind: it explains the world of nature in both an educational and dramatic manner. If all the doc’s makers are trying to do is preach to their own choir, then they’ve done well; but if they’re trying to get to those with an open mind, then a bit of documentary professionalism would have gone a long way – I’m afraid this accomplishes nothing. I’m a skeptic and a big documentary fan (e.g., Mile…Mile and a Half, 180 Degrees South, Long Way ‘Round, Tiny Living) – this will go nowhere.
