More civil disobedience and vandalism along the thinking of Dr. James Hansen of NASA GISS, who advocates such things.

Greenpeace took a unique approach today and sent several climbers up Mt. Rushmore in the middle of the night to deploy a giant 75lb sixty-five feet high by thirty-five feet wide banner calling for Climate Action. Featuring an unfinished portrait of the President, it read “America honors leaders not politicians: Stop Global Warming.” The demonstration came as President Obama meets other G8 leaders in l’Aquila, Italy today to discuss the global warming crisis in the lead-up to UN climate treaty negotiations in Copenhagen this December.
The banner managed to stay up on Mt. Rushmore for about an hour before being cut at around 1:17 PM est. Greenpeace was quick to point out that they respect American monuments and the banner was not installed in any way detrimental to the carvings on Mt. Rushmore. [UPDATE: Newsweek‘s The Gaggle blog says it has learned: “That a team of 12 experienced climbers prepped conspicuously for months planning for different scenarios to ensure the action could be completed safely. The group also promised there would be no damage to the actual monument, which is solid granite. And all involved planned to spend several weeks behind bars.”]

Where is the french to sink some of their boats when you need them.
Maybe they and the president should look at the global warming that has already stopped.
Actions like this are supposed to gain them support?
I remember seeing Mt Rushmore as a kid. Is there enough room for our current leader? If green peace is really about plants and life, they will love the new carbon concentration numbers. 1,000 ppm for my oak trees is like honey for bears.
The death rattle of AGW.
And all involved planned to spend several weeks behind bars…May I suggest a padded room instead?
Does Greenpeace not realize that these sort of antics serve no purpose other than to display their own childishness ? They turned me off when I was in college – thirty years ago . As far as I can tell , these twits have made nothing but noise and (unfortunately) money . They have accomplished very little , beyond annoying grownups .
It just keeps getting kookier and desparate.
hmm………
Leaders –> dictatorship
Politicians –> democratically elected
It figures.
They should be made examples of and spend several years behind bars or this will become SOP for them. Sooner or later some monument will be damaged.
Can we get these people to chain themselves to Al Gore’s SUV or around the utility pole at his mansion instead?
Thanks
Ed
Idiots!
This whole country’s a circus now, why take offense at the clowns?
Lincoln does not look pleased…
“Stop Global Warming.” ? ? ?
Didn’t these sharp knives get the memo? It is “Climate Change”.
How are we ever going to promote the Great Scam if the sacrificial moon bats we get to carry out “Promotional Operations” can’t even keep current with the latest plot line.
Somebody need to get with the program.
I disagree with everything Greenpeace believes. It’s too bad they don’t accept the scientific facts which disprove AGW. However I admire their moxie in completing such a stunt.
Had they covered the face of dishonest Abe, Greenpeace might have gained a little respect in my eyes.
O/T The “leaders” of the G8 have agreed to limit the rise of the global temperature to +2 C. Wow, if they can agree to a upper limit, can they agree to a lower limit? I mean, if they are able to think tthat they can limit what ever Nature throws at us, then why not say that we should also limit the temperature drop to -2 C?

What happened to the diversity of topics that used to be on WUWT? Review of the archives reveals topics on power conservation, wine, snowflake structure, green flashes… now it seems mostly politics and related science.
Mark, P Walker, you don’t understand. It’s all about them. It’s not about convincing anyone, it’s about feeling good about themselves. We are just props in their psychodrama.
Lee Harris recalls similar behavior back in the 60’s:
“… Instead, he took his part in order to confirm his ideological fantasy of marching on the right side of history, of feeling himself among the elect few who stood with the angels of historical inevitability. Thus, when he lay down in front of hapless commuters on the bridges over the Potomac, he had no interest in changing the minds of these commuters, no concern over whether they became angry at the protesters or not. They were there merely as props, as so many supernumeraries in his private psychodrama. The protest for him was not politics, but theater; and the significance of his role lay not in the political ends his actions might achieve, but rather in their symbolic value as ritual. In short, he was acting out a fantasy.”
So do the articles bother to mention Greenpeace’s opposition to Waxman-Markey?
This reminds me of Michael Moore’s visit there in Team America.
Here is another Hansenist act of disobedience by environmentalists…

I wonder which President will say “Global Warming has stopped” and get all the headlines. Oh, it won’t be this President, as he obviously tries to stay out of the headlines.
Are we sure former NASA Richard (deface on mars) Hoagland is not involved in this?
