Climate exaggerators won’t go away

From CFACT

By Joe Bastardi

Climate exaggerators won’t go away.

Consider exaggerating natural weather to the point of fanaticism.  It is about control. Most Americans will simply say, ” Live the life the way you want. Most leftists say you have to live your life the way I want, because I am right, and for the good of the whole, you must obey. The other part is the people who eventually get overrun, who are just trying to live their lives and don’t care about the whole issue, whatever it is.

Realizing this, the left weaponized climate as a tool for control. If you have enough religious zealots, backed up by money, knowing darn well they will be the ruling class, then if you can limit a person’s freedom by making energy more costly and less accessible, then you can overwhelm the system. It’s a Cloward-Piven philosophy of overwhelming the system. Knowing that the average American is complacent and comfortable, you must then sow seeds of discord and desperation, which will pull more people into your way of thinking. And while we all were patting ourselves on the back that once POTUS Trump took over, we would win, nothing is further from the truth. In the world of zealots, if you survive, you simply live to fight another day, when the left takes back over.

You are seeing it now in the climate, with some of the one-sided bias pushed headline-grabbing things coming out.  In the Senate, Sheldon Whitehouse is shameless and is still all-in on portraying natural weather as the “worst ever.”

Some examples:

Never mind the same climate change has 100 million MORE people in Europe with unseasonable cold.

Or, as so often happens, the pattern flips next week:

And the portrayal of the bowels of Hades color schemes:

How about this:

What about the record for the date of cold in the Arctic right now?

Will that be smashed on the cold side? Which is more important? A week of hot weather in Europe or the fact that at the time of the year when ice can melt temperatures are not going above the average in the summer which is near 0C. The warming is all in the winter, courtesy of water vapor, which impacts temperatures more when it’s very cold and dry, not CO2

Or the heat hysteria in India, where May is the hottest month of the year before the monsoon sets in. It’s about a wash as far as warm vs cold goes.

So, how is that portrayed by people pushing this?

The monsoon is a bit late in Southeast Asia, so it’s hotter, but next week it flips again:

I won’t even get into the Super Nino hype, which can be countered here in something I wrote a few weeks ago, which explains why the very thing they lament and mislabel as man-made, the overall oceanic warming, can blunt the impact of this event.

They also conveniently do not even look at the MEI, which is the cold standard for forecasters, as it isn’t just water temps but actual reactions in the atmosphere, or the longest-running measure of the El Niño – the SOI. (Those are talked about above.)

Why? Because the key zealot-based deception is to tell elements of the truth while simply eliminating the parts that negate it. Let the horse out of the barn, and then no one can catch it.

To advance, a society must produce. If the means of production are handicapped, it cannot, which takes away incentive and the ability to elevate oneself. It makes someone more susceptible to the false of safety at the hands of others, rather than a master of your own fate. The entire leftist agenda on energy is based on control via limiting the ability of the individual to reach beyond their grasp.

The climate agenda has precious little to do with climate or weather, but instead in a realm that is almost otherworldly in its evil roots

47° C in Kolkata? Now that is hot! Previous all time record 43.9 ° C.

Weather is not climate.
GMST rate is + 0.017 C per year. UAH data.
Trivial.

GMST is Global Mean Surface Temperature. You won’t get that from UAH.

Why are you deflecting away from the point that weather is not climate? Anomalous heat domes can shatter records. Those have zero to do with climate..

Be interesting to see where that temperature was measured.

Anyone who thinks that Kolcutta does suffer from urban heat island effects is just plain loony !!

The highest temperature for Kolkata was 43.9C in 2015, and is still listed as that. Perhaps that was a forecast? Was it from “by people pushing this”?

Kolkata (Calcutta) city and suburbs have grown significantly over recent decades to estimated 22,549,738, no doubt the increased urban heat island effect must be a contributing factor to any temperature records.

[stop harassing Nick with strawman logic errors. I’ll explain this once. even under the worst alarmist framing, CO2’s affect is not monotonic. this is an idiotic misunderstanding of yours. “there’s no evidence of CO2 warming in xxxx data” is just offensively tedious.]

Yes, census says 4,496,694 in 2011, down from 4,572,876 in 2001, Already 4,126,846 in 1981. The figures you are quoting are for the city of Calcutta. There is a big Metro area.

There has also been a huge increase in air-conditioner use in India since the 1980s.

Cooler inside, warmer outside.

Anyone able to locate where this measurement was measured..

New instrumentation could easily explain any slightly warmer temperature…. or a new nearby air-conditioner.

Forgive me for being dense, but that map that shows 47oC in Kolkata does not have any header saying what date it refers to, or whether it represents measured or forecasted temperatures. 47oC is 116.6oF, far higher than anything I see in a recent weather forecast for that city – here: https://world-weather.info/forecast/india/kolkata/month/. How can anyone judge data without knowing what it represents?

Quite so, but it is the map that WUWT presented. The complaint was of using hot colors to go with the temperatures. My point is that the temperatures, whatever they are, are actually hot.

“My point is that the temperatures, whatever they are, are actually hot.”

Which is a pointless point! Hot temperatures are a perfectly normal feature of Earth’s climate system. Most of modern warming was from warmer winter nights not summer highs.

So someone mentions climate exaggerators…

…and here you are.

Edward Katz
June 2, 2026 6:19 pm

It’s worth noting that as the climate crisis narrative has become increasingly ignored, the mainstream media, environmental organizations and leftist governments and NGOs like the UN are becoming more-and-more desperate so that they pointedly take every weather occurrence and climate variation and try to make them seem more catastrophic than what have been regular occurrences. So every heat wave has become more deadly, every storm potentially more destructive, every cold spell more of a threat, every drought just the tip of an iceberg, every flood more devastating—you name it. Meanwhile the overwhelming majority of the global population just brushes off this hysteria and goes about its business as usual.

Demonizing the weather is all the Climate Alarmists have left.

They pretend that their opinion of the weather makes it established fact. It’s not established fact, it is just an opinion.

There is no evidence that CO2 does anything to the Earth’s weather or climate. No connection has ever been established. Opinions don’t establish anything.

NOAA has projected a lower than “normal” hurricane season.
How can that be with storms getting more frequent and more intense due to the “heat” created by CO2?

Curious minds want to know. 🙂

It’s funny to see the “temperature anomaly” on the coloured scale…typically misleading colour bar knowing that people will just look at the map not knowing the actual temperature.

Well we just had mid of may the “Eisheilige” in Germany (a regular cold snap, nothing to see here alarmotards) and now we’re expecting another called “Schafskälte” begining of june. Spanish saying “hasta el cuarenta de mayo no te quites el sayo”.

Old wisdoms, unfit to be accepted by ecotards. I put it in my own words: get over it, the planet rules, not you ! So get lost.

Waiting to see all the alarmotards going ballistic the next 12 weeks: SUMMER is coming…oh wait they call it “unprecedented heatwave”. Instead I keep my beer cool and enjoy the beach, cheers.

The warming is all in the winter, courtesy of water vapor, which impacts temperatures more when it’s very cold and dry, not CO2″

Operative words: “impacts temperatures more”

This only highlights the statistical error of trying to average data with different variances without first properly weighting the values to account for the difference in variance. Climate science, as usual, just absolutely refuses to recognize the uncertainty of the data they use. The mean of data sets with higher variance have a larger uncertainty than data sets with lower variance. Variance *is* a metric for the measurement uncertainty of the mean – it is simply fraud to ignore it.

If you have two sets of data:

d = x +/- σ_x
e = y +/- σ_y

and σ_x > σ_y, meaning d is less accurate than e.

Climate science just takes the average, (d + e)/2 as the combined value. They either throw away the uncertainties or use the standard deviation of the sample means (sampling error as opposed to measurement uncertainty) as the uncertainty instead of propagating the uncertainty of the individual components.

The issue is that the more accurate value, i.e. “e”, should be given more weight in the combination simply because it is more accurate. The true center of gravity for the combined data should be closer to the more accurate value rather than being just mid-way between the values.

This issue applies when calculating “average” annual temperatures using spring/summer temperatures and fall/winter temperatures AND when combining NH temperatures with SH temperatures.

Climate science just applies the garbage meme of “all measurement uncertainty is random, Gaussian, and cancels” so they don’t have to worry about actual real physical science.

(note: anomalies don’t help with this. Anomalies inherit the variances of the components used to generate the anomaly. Anomalies should be weighted just like the absolute values)
