The world seems to not lack for climate alarmist Bond villains with wild schemes to “save the earth” by way of geo-engineering that ranges from the silly to the dangerous. A company is now poised to “cool the earth” by spraying the skies of the world with “sunlight-reflecting aerosols.” What could possibly go wrong?
On Episode #203 of The Climate Realism Show, we will also cover other Crazy Climate News of the Week, including how crappy it is to be a “climate migrant,” a push by alarmists to regain their policy momentum by declaring climate change a global public health crisis, and how Heartland’s push to spread climate realism in Europe has the alarmists in a bit of a panic.

“A company is now poised to ‘cool the earth’ by spraying the skies of the world with ‘sunlight-reflecting aerosols.’ What could possibly go wrong?”
How about this:
Those same aerosols, assuming they have a persistence in the atmosphere for more than a week or so, could very possibly ALSO reflect LWIR coming off Earth’s surfaces and the lower altitude levels of the atmosphere, thereby INCREASING the net global warming that they are intended to decrease.
After all, they would be present globally 24/7/365, whereas sunlight falls on Earth’s surface only during “daylight” hours.
Simple questions merit simple answers.
You can’t beat the good old Law of Unintended Consequences!
Leftists are the GRAND MASTERS of unintended consequences, in fact everything they do has it built in! And then when it all backfires, they claim that the problem is that there is/was not enough of what they prescribe. They are so blind to their own ignorance.
When their plans fail, they blame it on Trump. Like Wily Coyote blaming the Road Runner.
The coyote teaches: Never give up the pursuit of your goals.
The coyote teaches don’t buy from Acme.
Anyone heard of the “Coyote Vs ACME” movie coming out this year ?
Does it take place in a courtroom?
The moment the coyote wins it is game over.
Or, we’ll do it better next time.
And who gives them permission to pollute the earth ??
Like with Wind mills and Solar panels. It has never been about the climate. The Greens in Britain show what it is all about. The question is who will have the power in the party . Sunni or Shia ?
If you want to save the planet, how about mandating that all cars and all roofs be white.
That should be more than enough to offset anything CO2 might do.
Won’t dimming the sun also negatively affect crop growth and food production?
You can’t eat Dim Sun.
If calcium carbonate based aerosols are used rather than SO2 based aerosols, little or no issues with chemical reactions would be experienced. The most dangerous impacts would come from the possibility of worldwide crop failures.
This, besides poisoning the population, are the main goals of spraying.
But, just as with the vaccines the real intentions will remain an eternal conspiracy theory.
What could possibly go wrong?
Here is one fictional outcome: Snowpiercer (2013) – IMDb
Diming the sun with aerosol particles is a real bad idea. Haven’t these guys experienced winter? In the Yukon and NTW last winter, temperatures plunged to -50° C, which broke all previous low temperature records.
Putting aerosol particles high up in the air risks damaging the engines of jet planes.
During the Ice Age Scare they blamed Aerosols for global cooling,
so they know exactly what they are doing.
This is such a spectacularly stupid idea. And it was proposed much earlier. During the Vietnam war it was proposed that aerosols be “cloud-seeded” to increase precipitation and restrict NVA transport on the Ho Chi Minh Trail. This project was called Operation Popeye.
It was ridiculous then and ridiculous now.
I was recently talking to relatives who live on the Severn River, Maryland, upper Chesapeake Bay also frozen. They walked on ice last winter. We lived on the outer Virginia Coast circa 1960, and had ice slow the larger tide in much saltier, almost ocean salinity, water. It was too dangerous to walk on, 60 year cycle? Large and crazy similar ideas are nothing new, but this may be among the worst. Also had several recent discussions, including this morning, about the high level of incompetence in currently ‘educated and trained’ people. Way worse than “Buyer Beware.” Affirmative Action led to DEI, a strange level of bigotry?
The “Sun-Dumbers” are ADMITTING that it is THE SUN warming the planet.. NOT CO2.
This is why I wish you wouldn’t comment.
And yet someone in the Q&A section of the Heartland video said exactly the same thing… (which I saw after I posted this comment)
And all the panellists had a good laugh and agreed.
Sorry if you still have trouble facing the fact that warming comes from the SUN… not CO2. !
A warming sun quite probably is part of the reason why the earth has warmed, even though there are no measurements showing an increase in solar output.
However it is also a fact that more CO2 is also part of the warming. How large a part is still up to debate.

Sterling said “That’s Perfect”
Jim said, “Very clever”
Referring to a comment as clever is not agreeing with the comment.
First off, you know I’m an ally, secondly, they have not admitted that the sun is responsible for warming the planet.
All they have admitted is that less sun would cool the planet, which says nothing as to why the planet warmed in the first place.
Mickey Mann’s fauxy-stick is actually an indicator of CO2 levels, not temperatures.
Do you get to count those who watch it via WUWT after the show. ?
It is my standard Saturday Morning breakfast time watch here in NSW Australia.
Assume these smart people spray “sunlight-reflecting aerosols” into the upper atmosphere and are successful in their attempt to “cool” the earth.
How do they know when they’ve sprayed enough aerosols? How will they know the earth has cooled enough?
And, how will they prevent an ice age?
Given the thermal inertia of the Earth (particularly the total mass of water in its oceans) it might take, oh, 500 or so years to positively establish any cooling came from this global experiment versus it being from historic natural causes, such as what caused the Little Ice Age and what has caused the ten or so glacial intervals that have occurred over the last one million years of so of Earth’s history, all of which were before homo sapiens developed commercial use of fossil fuels.
Does this company think it owns the planet? Can anyone spray crap into the sky with no consequences? Surely this can’t happen?
I have long opposed this ridiculous strategy. At least I will be able to measure the altitudinal profile of their debris should they actually get it into the stratosphere. My LED twilight photometers will easily measure the stuff it they really launch it somehow. If any of it makes it over Central Texas and clouds do not interfere, I will submit twilight profiles to WUWT. (See my articles on twilight photometry in Make magazine.)
