COP30, the United Nations climate conference, is underway in Belem, Brazil. Thousands of representatives from all over the world have journeyed to discuss how to cut carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to try to fight human-caused climate change. But ten years after the Paris Climate Agreement, the global consensus on climate change is crumbling.
COP30 is the thirtieth “conference of the parties.” The first took place in Berlin in 1995. At COP21 in Paris in 2015, more than 190 countries signed the Paris Climate Agreement, pledging to cut emissions and to limit global warming to 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
About 50,000 people are attending COP30 from more than 190 nations. But key world leaders are not attending, including President Xi Jinping of China, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, and President Donald Trump of the United States. Climatism, the ideology pushing for a global transition to Net Zero energy, faces a rising tide of opposition across the world.
Two weeks before COP30, billionaire and philanthropist Bill Gates posted a memo to COP30 on his website titled “Three Tough Truths About Climate.” In it he states that “Climate change is a serious problem, but it will not be the end of civilization,” and also that “Unfortunately, the doomsday outlook is causing much of the climate community to focus too much on near-term emissions goals … ” He also said that “Our chief goal should be to prevent suffering, particularly for those in the toughest conditions who live in the world’s poorest countries.”
This is a remarkable change of position for Mr. Gates, who has spent billions in the fight against climate change over the last two decades. In 2021, he wrote a best-selling book titled How to Avoid a Climate Disaster. His shift of emphasis away from stopping emissions to solving real world problems is a move away from climate alarmism and toward common-sense policy.
President Trump called climate change “the greatest scam ever perpetrated on the world” in his address to the UN General Assembly in September. During the last 10 months, the Trump Administration has shut down permits for offshore wind, slashed subsidies for wind, solar, and electric vehicles, cut climate funding, and banned climate change rhetoric in government documents. The US is not sending delegates to COP30.
But in addition to the United States, opposition to Net Zero and Climatism is rising in other nations. Reform UK, the opposition party led by Nigel Farage in the United Kingdom, is now using the phrase “Net Stupid Zero.” Reform UK is now leading in some political polls.
Alternative für Deutschland, the number two political party in Germany, wants to tear down all wind turbines, calling them “windmills of shame.” Germany has more than 20,000 wind turbines installed, one of the highest densities in the world. Last month the Nationals party in Australia voted to abandon support for Net Zero. Nationals leader David Littleproud said, “We believe in reducing emissions, but not at any cost.” Just this week, Australia’s Liberal party also abandoned Net Zero and pledged to bring down energy prices instead. Australia, Germany, the UK, and other nations are struggling with escalating energy costs and no apparent benefit from Net Zero policies.
What have thirty UN climate conferences accomplished since 1995? The answer is “no measurable climate benefit.” Since 2000, the world has spent about $10 trillion on renewable energy, but hydrocarbons─coal, natural gas, and oil─still provided 87% of world energy in 2024 according to the Energy Institute.

Since 1965, global energy consumption has quadrupled and has accelerated since 2000. Every year the world adds about an additional UK worth of energy consumption. Except for the recession year of 2012 and the COVID-19 year of 2020, wind, solar, and other renewables failed to generate enough new energy to provide for the global increase in consumption, let alone replace hydrocarbons.

Last year, former US Secretary of State John Kerry said, “There shouldn’t be any more coal-fired power plants permitted anywhere in the world.” But global coal consumption continues to rise. Today, more than 6,500 coal-fired power plants operate across the world and another 1,000 are in planning or under construction. In 2024, coal provided 34% of the world’s electricity, the largest source of power.
Global energy consumption will continue to rise. The US has about 80 vehicles for every 100 people, but vehicle usage in Africa and India remains below 10 vehicles for every 100 people. Today, developed nations use up to 20 times as much plastic as poor nations on a per-person basis. Developing nations will continue to use more hydrocarbon fuels to enable their economies to grow.
As Mr. Gates has observed, poverty still characterizes many of the world’s people. Almost 700 million people do not have access to electricity and another two billion have blackouts or brownouts every other day. Over two billion people do not have access to clean water. Millions die each year from malaria, typhoid, and other diseases. World leaders should concentrate on these real problems, instead of unfounded concerns about carbon dioxide emissions.
From the political scene to the continued growth of hydrocarbon energy, the global climate consensus and the push for Net Zero is crumbling. It’s time for nations to return to sensible energy policy.

Thank goodness but it will take another 25 years before people look back thinking how quaint it was that anyone could be fooled by the climate crisis.
another 25 years
In the case of the UK I think it will be much, much longer than that. The curriculum is being beefed up….
The announcement follows the publication of the Curriculum and Assessment Review, chaired by Professor Becky Francis, which was commissioned in July 2024 to consider how schools can better equip pupils for a modern workplace.
‘Greater focus’ on climate education
https://www.letsrecycle.com/news/government-to-embed-climate-and-sustainability-across-national-curriculum/
And we know what that means. The BBC provides teaching resources alongside schools…
Due to a combination of human actions, our layer of greenhouse gases has been getting steadily thicker and, as a result, the Earth has been getting hotter. This is known as global warming – BBC
If the earth warms up a bit, it is of little consequence because there will always be long cold and snowy winters in many regions of the earth like Canada where I live.
Harold, this is the nonsense they are teaching – that graph, for example – the soon to be climate anxious….
A modern hockey stick.
When people turn blue of cold, due to the impossibly-expensive Net Zero to reduce CO2 by 2050 hoax, imposed by self-serving legislators and bureaucrats, acting in cahoots with the moneyed elites looking for more Wall Street style, sure-thing tax-shelters, they will finally wake up to realize they have been screwed big time, already for decades.
CO2 is an essential, life-giving gas that creates all green flora, that supports all fauna.
CO2 is God’s gift to mankind.
We need more CO2 ppm to reduce the world’s desert areas and increase crop yields per acre to better feed 8 billion people
CO2 IS AN ABSOLUTELY VITAL FOR GROWING FLORA AND FAUNA; NET ZERO IS A SUICIDE PACT
https://www.windtaskforce.org/profiles/blogs/co2-is-an-absolutely-vital-gas-ingredient-for-growing-flora-and
.
The IPCC, etc., has endowed CO2 gas as having magical global warming power, based on its own “science”
The IPCC, etc., claims, CO2 acts as Climate Control Knob, that eventually will cause runaway Climate Change, if we continue using fossil fuels.
The IPCC, etc., denies the Little Ice Age, uses fraudulent computer temperature projections.
.
Governments proclaimed: Go Wind and Solar, Go ENERGIEWENDE, go Net zero by 2050, etc., and provided oodles of subsidies, and rules and regulations, and mandates, and prohibitions to make it happen.
.
Net-zero by 2050 to-reduce CO2 is a super-expensive suicide pact, to:
1) increase command/control by governments, and
2) enable the moneyed elites to become more powerful and richer, at the expense of all others, by using the foghorn of the government-subsidized/controlled Corporate Media to spread scare-mongering slogans and brainwash people, already for at least 50 years; extremely biased CNN, MSNBC, NPR, PBS, NBC ABC, CBS come to mind.
.
CO2, just 0.042% in the atmosphere, is a weak absorber of a small fraction of the absorbable, low-energy IR photons.
CO2 has near-zero influence on world surface temperatures.
CO2 is a life-giving molecule. Greater CO2 ppm in atmosphere is an essential ingredient for:
1) increased green flora, which increases fauna all over the world, including desert areas, and
2) increased crop yields to better feed 8 billion people.
.
At About 30% Annual W/S Electricity on the Grid, Various Costs Increase Exponentially
The W/S systems uglify the countryside, kill birds and bats, whales and dolphins, fisheries, tourism, view-sheds, etc.
The weather-dependent, variable/intermittent W/S output, often too-little and often too-much, creates grid-disturbing difficulties that become increasingly more challenging and more costly (c/kWh) to counteract, as proven by the UK and California for the past 5 years, and Germany for the past 10 years, and recently in Spain/Portugal.
.
All have “achieved” near-zero, real- growth GDPs, the highest electricity prices (c/kWh) in the EU, and stagnant real wages for almost all people, while further enriching the moneyed elites who live in the poshest places.
.
Native People Suffer Extra Burdens: Their angry, over-taxed, over-regulated native populations, already burdened by the wind/solar/batteries nonsense, and then further burdened by the bureaucrat/moneyed elites bringing in tens of millions of uninvited, unvetted, uneducated, unskilled, ghetto-trash, crime-prone, poor folks, from dysfunctional countries.
Those folks are sucking from the multiple, government-program tits, while making:
1) minimal efforts to produce goods and services; and
2) maximum efforts to be chaotic, culture-destroying burden, the native populations never voted for.
.
Minimal Temperature Change due to CO2: The climate is not any different, even though, atmosphere CO2 increased from 280 ppm in 1850 to 420 ppm in 2025, 50% in 175 years. During that time, world surface temps increased by at most 1.5 C +/- 0.25 C, of which:
.
1) Urban heat islands account for about 65% (0.65 x 1.5 = 0.975 C) of the warming, such as the UHI of about 700 miles, from north of Portland, Maine, to south of Norfolk, Virginia, forested in 1850, now covered with heat-absorbing human detritus, plus the waste heat of fuel burning.
Japan, China, India, Europe, etc., have similar heat islands
About 65% of the US linear warming trend between 1895 and 2023 was due to increasing population density at the suburban and urban stations; 8% of the warming was due to urbanization at rural stations. Most of that UHI effect warming occurred before 1970.
https://wattsupwiththat.com/2025/05/16/live-at-1-p-m-eastern-shock-climate-report-urban-heat-islands-responsible-for-65-of-global-warming/
2) CO2 accounts for less than 0.3 C, with the rest from
3) Long-term, inter-acting cycles, such as coming out of the Little Ice Age,
4) Earth surface volcanic activity, and other changes, such as from increased agriculture, deforestation, especially in the Tropics, etc.
.
BTW, the 1850 surface temp measurements were only in a few locations and mostly inaccurate, +/- 0.5 C.
The 1979-to-present temp measurements (46 years) cover most of the earth surface and are more accurate, +/- 0.25 C, due to NASA satellites.
Any graphs should show accuracy bands.
The wiggles in below image are due to plants rotting late in the year, emitting CO2, plants growing early in the year, consuming CO2, mostly in the Northern Hemisphere. See URL

EUROPE AIMS TO WEAKEN THE US WITH EXPENSIVE OFFSHORE WINDMILLS THAT PRODUCE EXPENSIVE, LOW-QUALITY ELECTRICITY
https://www.windtaskforce.org/profiles/blogs/europe-attempts-to-entangle-us-with-expensive-offshore-windmills
.
Net zero by 2050 Euro elites tried to weaken the US, with help of the unpatriotic, leftist Biden clique, into going down the black hole of 30,000 MW by 2030 of expensive, highly-subsidized, weather-dependent, grid-disturbing offshore windmill systems, which would need expensive, highly subsidized, short-lived, battery systems for grid support.
.
Offshore wind full cost of electricity FCOE = 30 c/kWh + 11 c/kWh = 41 c/kWh, no subsidies
Offshore wind full cost of electricity FCOE = 15 c/kWh + 11 c/kWh = 26 c/kWh, 50% subsidies
The 11 c/kWh is for various measures required by wind and solar. Power plant to landfill cost basis.
This compares with 7 c/kWh + 3 c/kWh = 10 c/kWh from existing gas, coal, nuclear, large reservoir hydro plants.
.
Such expensive W/S electricity would have made the US even less competitive in world markets.
Any US tariffs on the European supply of wind systems would greatly increase their turnkey capital costs/MW and their electricity costs/ kWh.
.
Almost the entire supply of the wind projects would be:
1) designed and made in Europe,
2) then transported across the Atlantic Ocean by European specialized ships,
3) then unloaded at new, taxpayer-financed, $500-million storage/pre-assembly/staging/barge-loading areas,
4) then barged to European specialized erection ships for erection of the windmill systems.
5) The financing would be mostly by European pension funds, that pay benefits to European retirees.
.
Hundreds of people in each seashore state would have jobs during the erection phase
The other erection jobs would be by specialized European people, mostly on cranes and ships
Hundreds of people in each seashore state would have long-term O&M jobs, using mostly European spare parts, during the 20-y electricity production phase.
.
Conglomerates owned by Euro elites would finance, build, erect, own and operate almost all of the 30,000 MW of offshore windmills, providing work for many thousands of European workers for decades, and multi-$billion profits each year.
.
That Euro offshore wind ruse did not work out, because Trump was elected.
Trump-hating, Euro elites are furious. Projects are being cancelled. The European windmill industry is in shambles, with multi-$billion annual losses, lay-offs and tens of $billions of stranded costs.
.
Trump spared the US from the W/S evils inflicted by the leftist, woke Democrat cabal, that used an autopen for Biden signatures, and bypassed on-the-beach/in-the-basement Biden, an increasingly dysfunctional Marionette.
.
Trump declared a National Energy Emergency, and put W/S/B systems at the bottom of the list, and suspended their licenses to put their rushed, glossy environmental impact statements, EIS, under proper scrutiny.
.
Euro elites used the IPCC-invented, “CO2-is-evil” hoax, based on its own “science”.
These elites used:
.
1) the foghorn of government-subsidized Corporate Media to propagate scare-mongering slogans and brainwash the people,
2) censorship to suppress free thinking on town hall forums,
3) election interference, as in Moldova and Georgia,
4) ostracizing /marginalizing major political parties to produce desired outcomes, as in Germany.
.
Wall Street elites saw an opportunity for tax shelters for its elite clients.
Woke politicians/bureaucrats were “cut-in” on $juicy deals to pass subsidies, favorable rules and regulations, and impose government mandates.
Euro elites wanted the US to deliver electricity to users at very high c/kWh, to preserve Europe’s extremely advantageous trade balance with the US.

Good post except I think you’re being too generous about CO2’s influence. O.3C is about 0.3C more than reality, since CO2 has never been empirically shown to do ANYTHING to the Earth’s temperature.
Quite the reverse is true. Observations show NO such influence.
I just have to comment on these words in your post, fully recognizing that yours alone were sarcastic:
“And we know what that means. The BBC provides teaching resources alongside schools…
‘Due to a combination of human actions, our layer of greenhouse gases has been getting steadily thicker . . .’ ”
Of course, there is no such thing as a “layer” of greenhouse gases nor Earth’s atmosphere as a whole getting “thicker”. But the BBC organization appears to be just too stupid to recognize even its own ignorance.
BTW, if the graphic you posted (in context I have to assume it also was created by the BBC) was put on an absolute temperature scale that reflects the range that humans typically experience on Earth over the course of a year, say -40°C (-40°F ) to +49°C (+120°F), a range of 89°C, that “alarming” spike of 1.2°C since the start of the Industrial Revolution would hardly be noticeable visually.
“no such thing as a “layer” of greenhouse gases”
Precisely, TYS. They are parroting Al Gore’s beliefs
Stupid? Ignorant? Or complicit?
They had 10 years to save the cause and failed.
So Earth-shatteringly important…but fading after only ten years..!
Good posting. But if President Trump calling it a “scam” is right on, and the scam revenue source is being compromised, where will the scam artists pivot to?
On a geological timescale, climate takes ages to change, but a microsecond for man’s climate belief to disintegrate.
Concentrating on ending world poverty, starvation and diseases does not play well w those who believe overpopulation will destroy the planet. Ever since ‘the population bomb’ in 1968 it has been an uncomfortable topic for both the left and the right. My background/ upbringing was/ is filled w mostly people on the left who often expressed concern about over population. About half a year ago i confronted one of them, responding to his concern about the growing population of the 3d world by asking if he would be in favor of forced family planning or against medical treatment and improved sanitation, you know.. to keep the population down?
Clearly he hadnt thought it through because he immediately tried to deflect.
He remained, as usual, totally for the green transition and the west forcing the issue upon the 3d world (and thereby go against using their own hydrocarbons to improve their lives). When i stated that that is in fact a (neo) colonial approach to which i assumed he generally would be against, given the standard leftish accusation of the west’s past colonialism. He was clearly not aware of this discrepancy and became angry simply because he could not face that contradiction.
So, in the end it is all part of (white) liberal guilt combined w arrogant virtue signalling.
That is what we see at COP. And coloured people ready to receive the money playing the game..
Ever since ‘the population bomb’ in 1968… We’ve been laughing at the Ehrlichs:
“A massive campaign must be launched to de-develop the United States. De-development means bringing our economic system into line with the realities of ecology and the world resource situation.” —Dr. Paul Ehrlich, Anne Ehrlich, and Dr. John Holdren, Ecoscience: Population, Resources, Environment, 1970
“By the year 2000 the United Kingdom will be simply a small group of impoverished islands, inhabited by some 70 million hungry people … If I were a gambler, I would take even money that England will not exist in the year 2000.” —Dr. Paul Ehrlich, speech at the British Institute for Biology, Sep. 1971
And the supremely anti-human…
“Giving society cheap, abundant energy would be the equivalent of giving an idiot child a machine gun.” —Dr. Paul Ehrlich, Anne Ehrlich, and Dr. John Holdren, Ecoscience: Population, Resources, Environment, 1970
I asked Copilot AI, “Based only on children born in the US and ignoring people immigrating to the US, what is the rate of growth of US population?”
Response, “In recent years, the U.S. natural growth rate has hovered around low positive values (roughly 0% to about +0.2% per year), because births and deaths have been close in number. The exact rate depends on the specific year’s counts.”
If population growth is a problem, there is a solution, the US has found it and is practicing it. We have done so without stunting our prosperity or economic growth.
If population growth is a problem, there is a solution, the US has found it and is practicing it.
The occasional mass shooting springs to mind.
Well yes, the US does have more of those tragedies because our take on freedom has led to widespread availability of guns, not to mention freedom of speech, but rabid pursuit of the Nut Zero goal will be a much more effective means of population control (aka depopulation) than the occasional crazy gunman. With the added bonus that we’ll be warm in the winter!
We parted company in 1776 and what happens in the US is a matter for its citizens, at least as far as I am concerned.
What about the War of 1812?
More like abortion and access to birth control.
Population growth is NOWHERE a problem where wealth and education standards are high – despite the fact that life expectancy is much higher in those countries.
No matter country, color or race – when living standards go up reproduction rates go down.
By making everyone poorer ( as green energy does) and dumber the reproduction rate will increase if they don’t use sterilizing vaccines, water, food.
Everything woke -left is colonialism as they force every left policy on the rest of the world.
Be it green energy, LGBT, pronouns ,governance.vaccines, child mutilation, austerity policies,
NGO revolutionary spring caravan.
It’s 100% colonialism,
but it’s not colonialism when they do it, or when muslims do it (than it is expansion).
And it is especially not colonialism when UN,IMF,NED or NGO’s do it and later on Wall Street buys everything for pennies on the dollar.
Just as Bush Wars were no longer colo…wars when Obama started doing them.
It is hard to believe that as of 2024, there have been 400,000 windmills installed.
China made a Lot of money off this Net Zero scam.
At any rate, reality is beginning to dawn on a lot of politicians. Net Zero is an impossible dream that will only bankrupt those countries who take it seriously and continue down that path.
After decades of Climate Alarmists crying “Wolf!”, the public is finally starting to realize that Net Zero is the problem, not the weather.
Note that to the true believers, Climate Change is the Problem, and Net Zero is the solution. Just because Net Zero won’t work, doesn’t mean that Climate Change is wrong.
In the Church of Climate, the global warming spirit is willing, but the fossil fuel flesh is weak.
Our high priest in the faith has the answers…
Dark forces are preventing us fighting the climate crisis – by taking knowledge hostage
George Monbiot
The fundamental problem is this: that most of the means of communication are owned or influenced by the very rich
…
It’s about what we know and how we know it, what we agree to be true and what we identify as false. We face, alongside a global threat to our life-support systems, a global threat to our knowledge-support systems. – The Groan
Presumably our George doesn’t think the BBC or his own employer are dark forces… They most certainly are. George goes on…
While it [the BBC] no longer provides a platform for outright climate denial, almost every day it breaks its own editorial guidelines by hosting Tufton Street junktanks (which often argue against environmental action) without revealing who funds them. Shouldn’t we be allowed to know whether or not they are sponsored by fossil fuel companies?
Same old, same old. No wonder the cause is being lost.
Certainly. If someone is actually funded by an oil company, be transparent.
The flip side of that is also required. The climate activist funding should also be transparent.
Then we can compare dollars to dollars (or euros or yen or whichever currency).
And government money (which is just about universally supporting the alarmist bullshit, because governments are ever in search of a new ‘crisis’ to use as a way to push political agendas) is not “clean and devoid of corrupting influence” as if it possesses some magic power that money from fossil fuel companies is devoid of.
If the message of the Climate Nazis and their cheerleaders is “money corrupts,” then their side of the argument is INFINITELY MORE CORRUPT, because their Eco-Nazi bullshit has been bestowed with orders of magnitude more money.
And all that money is THE ONLY REASON that climate alarmist has survived this long, because their so-called “science” is little more than hypothetical bullshit coupled with the 180 degrees wrong notion that a climate warmer than The Little Ice Age is a “crisis” as opposed to 100% GOOD NEWS.
Eventually, the only reasonable and rational source of power for the world will replace carbon and photocells all the other goofy things that people are trying.
Safe, clean, cheap and reliable … Nuclear.
Questions? Ask the US Navy.
But don’t do it in a speedboat….
It’d be pretty cool if they could miniaturized reactors so they could build nuclear powered cars that could go years at a time without need for refueling..
Off Topic – Trump might want to forget he has anything to do with Scotland…

Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.’
That’s going on for years.
Amazon had a series (my lady jane?) with a Black English King who was gay and disabled.
The show was sadly stopped before he became a tranny and converted to Islam.
Thankfully, I don’t do Amazon. Why would anyone?
You also don’t do children books.
Thing is that this hilarious nonsense happens on international scale and a multimillion dollar production only for the sake of indoctrination where the producer is willingly risking huge losses( with a 99% guarantee ) is on a much other level than a childrens book that can only reach a few thousand.
Why would anyone ruin themselve so obviously?
Yet this is standard procedure since the 1970ies when they openly started the indoctrination process in the media with SOAP .
A series that made huge losses from the very beginning, yet they pushed this crap for 4 years – because it had the first transgender character in history.
(this now even reached South Korea.
Squid Games has now the first transgender – because Netflix is producing it)
My children had pre woke times books.
Those books are on the trigger list now
I remember the Time-Life Science Library, hardbound books published between 1963 and 1967, covering various topics in natural sciences.
“Reacher” maybe, otherwise I can’t think of why either.
You can always stream anything you like “a la carte” to avoid funding the nonsense.
Control the language, control the ideas.
and now I read the McKibbon’s 350.org is shutting down – looks like DOGE cut off the grift machine
Just went there and noticed an article, “Why COP30 leaders must stop the super-rich from burning down the planet”
It’s so dumb it should shut down from excess stupidity.
McKibbon was always 10 degrees short of being able to complete a circle.
YES! WINNING!
Story tip:
“‘A wave of truth’: COP30 targets disinformation threat to climate action”
https://news.un.org/en/story/2025/11/1166351
“Negotiators in Belém, Brazil, opened COP30 with a stark warning: the race to avert catastrophic global heating is being sabotaged by a surge of climate disinformation. The falsehoods, spreading faster than ever online, threaten to derail fragile progress on climate action.”
The Climate Liars are admitting they have lost control of the narrative. So, to regain control, they are going after draconian measures of global censorship and possibly resurrecting climate denier criminal prosecution.
I wonder how this aligns with the Human Rights Treaties?
I see it was published 3 days ago.
https://wattsupwiththat.com/2025/11/11/cop30-president-lula-calls-for-an-end-to-climate-denialism/
Apparently they think “deniers” are so evil and dangerous they don’t deserve human rights.
Remember to slow walk trade deals or other dealings with these self-identified grifter countries.
AGW may be going out of style but it did a lot of damage to some economies and helped China to the #2 spot. So for the Marxists it was a partial success but a success none the less. Now that they’ve tested the media that they bought we can expect something similar to divide and attack Democracies and Capitalism going forward. The MSM will take this as a learning experience, not as a lesson in failure.
From the above article:
“About 50,000 people are attending COP30 from more than 190 nations.”
The website CarbonBrief (https://www.carbonbrief.org/analysis-which-countries-have-sent-the-most-delegates-to-cop30/ ) states (my bold emphasis added):
” . . . more than 56,000 delegates have signed up to attend COP30 in person, provisionally placing the summit as one of the largest in COP history.”
One can only stand in awe that the city of Belém, Brazil, can provide deluxe accommodation for so many to attend this 30th Conference of Parties . . . with emphasis on the Parties part.
Then too, where will they find parking for all those “private jets”?
Well at least the rain forest will get a healthy, nice does of CO2.
Maybe might facilitate regrowing the 100,000 trees sacrificed for that road to nowhere.
The whole CAGW fiasco is purely politics and has nothing to do with science or climate.
That is true and UN officials have come right and said so several times over past decades.
My Australia, sadly, signed on to net zero under right-leaning Prime Minister Morrison. In an announcement at that time, Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said the decision was made because refusal could create problems with bankers making national borrowing difficult and/or costly.
Our legal profession failed to act on this illegal pressure, that in the US might invoke RICO.
Later, the left-leaning Labor government was voted in. It endorsed net zero avidly and still does. Out Federal Opposition last week announced a new policy of not continuing with net zero.
These political games are mostly about politicians maximizing their chances of success in the next election. Some of the States have their own climate policies and like my Victoria, elections within a year.
Meanwhile, Australia’s economy has already suffered severe economic damage as investors no longer come here for the cheapest, most reliable electricity that we enjoyed before year 2000. We are dominated by “renewables” (a dishonest term) and official statements that renewables are the cheapest forms of electricity generation (also a blatant lie).
We Australians are in the grip of control freak politicians and their strong but deluded supporters known as useful idiots.
We lack a President Trump equivalent. We lack a few wealth people forming a credible opposition group to rebut this nonsense and to set the country again in a progressive, exciting but challenging course again.
Geoff S
The signatories of the various climate treaties and agreements probably realized that Net Zero was unattainable from the outset, but they just wanted to get on board to take advantage of claims that new taxes were needed to combat the supposedly looming “problem”. In reality they were just looking for new tax revenue sources and saw the mythical climate crisis as a golden opportunity to exploit. Likewise the green product peddlers who pushed governments to institute new mandates for their wares. Except when consumers and voters saw living costs rising because of these money grabs, while weather and climate showed only their usual fluctuations, they quickly turned against them and that’s the reason that carbon taxes were withdrawn and EV sales stagnated and their production fell. And with these, the whole climate emergency sales-pitch has largely gone with them.
Well in fairness, EV sales stalled because EVs suck. And there are a limited number of virtue signaling buyers who are fairly well off that have money to waste on them (most of whom still also have ICE cars they can rely on in addition to their EV fashion accessories).
‘Reform UK is now leading in some political polls’
