Only 15 Nations Bothered to Submit Paris Climate Pledges on Time

Essay by Eric Worrall

“… the era of cooperation on climate change is over …” – no shows include the USA, EU, India, China and Russia.

Only 15 countries have met the latest Paris agreement deadline. Is any nation serious about tackling climate change?

The latest deadline for countries to submit plans for slashing the greenhouse gas emissions fuelling climate change has passed. Only 15 countries met it – less than 8% of the 194 parties currently signed up to the Paris agreement, which obliges countries to submit new proposals for eliminating emissions every five years.

Who didn’t submit?

Some of the world’s largest emitters failed to submit new NDCs, including China, India and Russia.

The European Union could have positioned itself as a leader of global climate action, in lieu of US involvement. But the EU, which submits NDCs as a bloc alongside individual country submissions, also failed to submit on time.

The failure of most nations to submit new emission plans suggests that the era of cooperation on climate change is over. …

Obviously the EU at least will probably submit something, it would be hideously embarrassing for the self proclaimed climate leaders of the world to ignore their climate commitments. Don’t mention the Russian gas pipeline.

And so far China seems to have a pass to do whatever they want, providing they meet European politicians and say nice things to them. Russia will probably play along, there aren’t too many international conferences where Russians are still welcome.

India is the wild card. Will they take this opportunity to formally renounce membership of the Paris Agreement? They might – if President Trump offers them a good deal on tariffs.

If just one other major emitter openly joins the USA in renouncing Paris, it’s all over for the international climate movement. All that bulldozed COP30 Amazonian rainforest will be for nothing.

It was always virtue signaling by the West, and rent seeking by the Wabenzi in the Third World. The Mercedes people want their foreign aid, on any rationale.

Nah .
That’s faaar more than virtue signalling.

A global government needs a global tax.
That’s why climate was always a key player in this game.
Be it ice age or warming.

You don’t pull such massive stunt on a global scale just to spit around some slime.

You also do not invest so much energy to target and silence critics when you are only virtue signalling.
This is a massive money and power grab
to eventually install UN global governance.

People would never accept global governance nor taxing under usual circumstances.
But with a fake global crisis (just like in the watchman comics),
people may accept it just as they accepted to become guinea pigs on a global scale for an experimental medicine that was released 10 years before time and was falsely labelled a vaccine.

It’s called One World Order and the origins go back decades.

Covid was merely a demonstration project.

Note WHO never actually called Covid a pandemic. The wording suggested it possibly might be, but there was no definitive pronouncement.

Glad to see it all fading, I found it hard to believe that anyone could take it seriously, it was obviously a charade to me, just a power and money grab.

Question is why were the Maldives able to use their Paris sea level mitigation monies to build five new airports at near beach level?

well, when the corn, wheat, and okra will grow better, and we can get extra firewood out from under the receding glaciers, whatcha gonna do?

Make all recipient countries repay the money they have received

“All that bulldozed COP30 Amazonian rainforest will be for nothing.”

That is not quite correct.

The Belém industrial area bypass has been on the books for quite a while.. It is actually a useful road for many in the area.

It is just that it took the COP30 soiree to overcome the environmental restrictions that were holding back its construction. 😉

Those nations who received money from this world wide scam should immediately repay it.

Now this is how you’ll get the money back.
Here is the king of panhandlers who received the most money explaining it to you.

You give us money and we don’t give it back to you.
100% guaranteed ”

Get real. That money is gone forever. Who soever pays more deserves to lose it.

So, will the countries that failed to do so be facing any penalties, and have they ones that didn’t meet their emissions-reduction deadlines been penalized as well? The reality is that the countries that did sign the Paris Accord and other similar climate deals did so because they knew they wouldn’t face any repercussions for non-compliance. If penalties had been attached, it would taxpayers that would have had to pay at least part of the costs, they would have taken out their ire on governments. A further reality is that those same consumers, businesses and industries really don’t give a damn about Net Zero and the associated costs and lost revenue that would accompany reaching an unattainable goal in the first place. Only fools would wreck their economies trying to fight climate change, a mainly natural occurrence.

“So, will the countries that failed to do so be facing any penalties . . .”

Yes. My understanding is that any country that fails to meet its stated CO2 emission reduction goals under the Paris Accord must have its UN ambassador write on a blackboard 30 times “I must not offer commitments that I never intended to meet.”

Ouch!

30 times?? No no no no no. They must write it once for each molecule of CO2, Methane, and whatever other greenhouse gases their various COP representatives emitted or planned to emit.

It seems to me that Doug as reader in Communication nevertheless has not got the memo. That the Paris absurdity is dead.

It would appear that India is in the catbird seat. They have no intention of giving up coal-fired generation, but they can now play the U.S. and the EU off of each other to see who will give them the best deal.

Hmmmmm . . . what’s a nation’s “climate pledge” worth nowadays?

I’ll offer my best-and-final bid of $0.25 for the US climate pledge, subject to delivery in undamaged condition.

They will move on to micro-plastics, or pandemics, or space invaders. It doesn’t really matter what the issue is, just so long as they can milk it for money.

The 30th party of the councils should end (if it is held) with a statement that the Paris thingy is no more. Some countries still want to get money from the so-called developed ones, but the biggest – the USA – is broke and paying interest on its debt. In recent years the interest rate went from 1.7 to 3.4 % with total of about $1.2 Trillion. This is more than the Nation spends on defense. Spain, Rome, and the English empires followed this path that the USofA is now on.

March 21, 2025 8:34 pm

The Paris agreement was agreed to by 196 nations in 2015. It’s ten years later and there has been no decrease in atmospheric CO2 either in the measured amount or the rate of rise.

I’d say the history shows that the best laid plans for world compliance are not working. It’s pity that so much money was wasted on nothing when it could have gone to much more important things like a cure for diabetes or cancer.

I’d say that they’re actually not the best laid plans, because the people making the “plans” are lying incompetent grifters whose only ability in life is to farm taxes.

The only reason Chinese leaders are meeting with the EU leaders and saying nice things is to keep the EU on the path to economic oblivion.
But I think Trump is putting paid to that, if the euros really do ramp defense spending as promised something has to give and it won’t be the social net.
Green energy transition is going to evaporate shortly.

There is no real evidence that CO2 has any effect on our global climate system. The AGW hypothesis has been falsified by science. Hence the Paris Accoud does not really matter.
