97% of priests agree- the sun goes around the Earth! And the Holy Father, too, and of course, he’s infallible. Anyone promoting Galileo’s idea must be a shill for the telescope makers!
I hope that you are comfortable living in your fantasy world. WUWT comments are, I thought (silly me), supposed to be based on evidence. But mention the name “Galileo” and you can guarantee that there will be an outpouring of comments that put the most extrreme climate alarmists to shame.
Who says comments must all be based on evidence? This ain’t a graduate school seminar. There is a role for sarcasm and humor, especially when dealing with climate whack jobs. 🙂
especially in the “friday-funny” edition. 🙂

It should be a YouTube post, not X, at least currently. Facebook is equally orthodox, but usually just shadow bans.
YouTube is so biased in the Woke direction they’d very likely censor this concept out of their database and postings, simply because Galileo is just too old to be credited with anything so modern as ‘science’, let along the political ‘science’ which is settled by majority votes as the Catholics settled Galileo.
“On April 12, 1633, chief inquisitor Father Vincenzo Maculani da Firenzuola, appointed by Pope Urban VIII, begins the inquisition of physicist and astronomer Galileo Galilei. Galileo was ordered to turn himself in to the Holy Office to begin trial for holding the belief that the Earth revolves around the sun, which was deemed heretical by the Catholic Church. Standard practice demanded that the accused be imprisoned and secluded during the trial.
This was the second time that Galileo was in the hot seat for refusing to accept Church orthodoxy that the Earth was the immovable center of the universe: In 1616, he had been forbidden from holding or defending his beliefs.”
Trust the science. Listen to the experts. Especially on Twitter in 1632—
Or Mann on X in 2024.
It is obvious that the Sun revolves around the Earth because of sunrise and sunset.
We know Earth isn’t spinning because when we sit down we don’t miss the chair. Gravity depends on mass because experimentally a cannonball falls faster than a feather from the top of the leaning tower of Pisa.
Black holes do not exist since we cannot see them.
MWP did not happen because Mann’s paleoproxy hockey stick shaft proved otherwise.
Anthropogenic global warming is happening because UNFCCC and IPCC have said so for forty years.
(Hope a /S is not necessary.)
I was puzzled, until I got to the gravity bit, as I vividly recall my Physics teacher in secondary school enjoying taking our lunch money* on a bet he could make a feather hit the ground as fast as a stone. Then he produced a vacuum tube.
That was when he wasn’t standing in for the Chemistry teacher and blowing up the lab with chemicals he knew nothing of.
Fun story. My high school 11th grade chem teacher was a retired Army artillery general. His general chemistry idea was to make things go boom to impress his classes.
So, one day he got a red balloon and a blue balloon. He filled the blue balloon with hydrogen, and proved it was lighter than air by floating it to the ceiling. He brought it back down, inserted the red ballon, then filled it to half oxygen by the red ballon. It then did not float, proving that Oxygen is 8 times heavier than hydrogen on the periodic table
—even when divided by 2.
Then he pushed the new double balloon up to the ceiling and hit it with a (then new) red laser pointer. Burned the red inner O2 balloon, ignited the H/O mix, and blew most of the ceiling tiles off the lab.
I was very impressed.
In my freshman year of college chemistry, we were instructed to perform an experiment to detect the presence of oxygen. I dutifully placed twice the instructed amount of potassium chlorate in a test tube (so that I wouldn’t have to do it twice), and instead of placing a glowing splint at the mouth of the test tube with boiling KClO3, I dropped the flaming splint into the tube. It was spectacular! The splint was consumed at the speed of gravity, producing a purple exhaust that looked like a small rocket engine. I was convinced that I had indeed produced oxygen.
If such dangerous experiments are still done today, doing what I did probably would result in getting expelled and being condemned to a job for life where I had to repeat the phrase, several times a day, “Would you like fries with that?”
The stuff off woke Royal Commissions nowadays. Had the same in Oz in the late 60s when they were short of teachers. Senior plodding chem teacher had already shown us the year before the reaction of sodium in water by carefully snipping off half a rice grain under the jar solution (paraffin?) and with his gloves and tweezers popping it in water and fizz splutter there you go kids.
Not ring in Mr Patasci from Lucas Heights Atomic Energy the next year as he fills an enamel dissecting dish with water and plucks out a lipstick size cylinder with his fingers and pops it in the water. Immediately starts steaming and smoking and turns into a molten ball racing around the dish as he’s prodding it with a ruler- ‘See kids a very vigorous reaction..’ when it goes almighty bang in a mushroom of smoke and water up on the celing and wetting him and the front row as we duck under the desks with impromptu practice for the atom bomb. LOL.
A similar “Twitter” could be made for Paul Ehrlich, Louis Pasteur, Edward Jenner, etc.(Even Martin Luther!)
A “consensus” in just about every field started with someone who broke from the current “consensus” of the time.
OOPS!
I better qualify which “Paul Ehrlich” I meant. The one I meant was “the father of chemotherapy”. Syphilis was at one time a fatal STD. He came up the first successful treatment. (I believe he found a chemical that would attach to syphilis but added arsenic to that chemical to kill the syphilis.) He’d likely be better know if antibiotics such as penicillin hadn’t been found a decade or so later. I did NOT mean the Bombed Population Ehrlich!
There are parallels between the development of Enlightenment cosmology and the development of climate science both being about science fundamentals observations hypotheses and predictions, both advanced by genuine scientists contending with officially imposed doctrine from the Holy See and now the IPCC.
One difference is that the night sky was visible to all and as observations became more precise predictions became increasingly at odds with the geocentric model and telescopes only further confirmed the heliocentric model while nowadays the global surface temperature record is a mess due to constant manipulation by curators who are committed to the CO2-centric model.
Maybe in climate science better satellite measurement will be the equivalent of the telescope.
The sattelite “telescope” is already there. The only warming in UAH is in isolated steps up each coincident with a big El Nino spike.the warming looks like residual heat from natural events. https://www.cfact.org/2021/01/15/the-new-pause/
AGW is falsified by simple observation but the Clergy will not look through the telescope.
The step warming of UAH record seems not inconsistent with the surmise that greenhouse gasses prevent the atmosphere from cooling down to the level before spikes from non-anthropogenic source events, resulting in heating over time, stepwise or not. … I love the UAH record but the ‘best’ it could produce for fellow sceptics so far was a warming pause here and there TBH.
I do not see how that could work given the CO2 level is constantly rising so would need to see the physics. There is no heating over time in the sense of gradual warming. There is a big injection of energy, then some cooling after which the temperature oscillates around a constant but at a slightly higher level than before the injection.
The climate has been different due to the increasing concentration of the greenhouse gas CO2 whatever the source to what it would have been without, that is common sense, as there is no way of devising the counterfactual condition how and to what extent the climate is different is impossible to determine.
Most of us who have been around for a few years know that is was much hotter than normal some years and much colder than normal some years and the local climate has not changed enough for a human to see the difference.
97% of European experts agree that the center of the Universe is in Bruxelles, at the very center of the office trash can of EU Commission president Ursula von der Leyen.
Motion is relative, You can pick any point you like for an origin, to make the math’s easier.
That was what the Church understood, and Galileo and many scientists to this day did not.

In other news, a small group of crazy people staged a sit down protest which blocked the Camino de Santiago for several days. They call themselves ‘Just Stop Orbiting’. Their motives and reasoning are obscure but the Inquisition is turning a blind eye.
Consensus is a great way to reach conclusions when you want to avoid effort, responsibility and reality, just as long as you don’t mind the dire consequences of being wrong over and over and over.
Probably a waste of time posting this. The Galileo experts have already worked out what happened. They’re not interested in listening to actual facts. The black propaganda about the Inquisition put out by Voltaire and the Protestants has got into the DNA of some people and no number of facts is ever going to remove it. There is a consenus that Galileo this that and the other and the Inquisition did this that and the other. Some people prefer the consensus view as it supports their other prejudices.
Milankovitch had proposed that mid latitude heat and cold waves are discretely solar driven, other academics who saw weather as ‘geocentric’, said he was insane.
Die heretic!
A religion by any other name……

When the climate alarmists learn nothing from history, they are doomed to repeat its mistakes.
He wrote to a friend in dismay that they would not look at any of his work or even look down his telescope at the Moon.
Just as today, evidence plays no part in the ‘science’ which cannot thus be falsified.
Oh, it was on history, com so it must be correct.
Now that IS funny.

Oh and Jupiter has moons so it is a planet like Earth not a moving star.i will write a book about this. No one will mind, right? (Wrong.)

Don’t expect an Apollo G from NASA.
How about a Starliner?

Be cautious. An ascending sine wave with noise can look like a step function.
