Thu 22 Feb 2024 18.00 AEDTThe production team behind the Little Amal puppet, which raised awareness about the plight of the refugee crisis in Europe, hope their next project – a herd of animal puppets going on a 20,000km trek – will start a new global conversation about the climate crisis.
Amir Nizar Zuabi, the Palestinian artist who helped launch the Amal project, said The Herd – which will tour through several African and European cities and feature dozens of puppets – will be a “soft, beautiful evocation to think differently” about the climate crisis.
“Climate change is the biggest story we’re facing now,” said Zuabi. “It’s often presented in terms of emissions and the Kyoto agreement – people struggle to fathom that, but what Amal did beautifully and what we hope The Herd becomes is a visceral engagement with the issue.”

The “core” herd will contain about 30 puppets representing the migrating animals of the Serengeti, but they will be joined by a “massive migration” of different animals as they arrive in new locations – creating a herd that could swell to many dozens of puppets.

I do find the picture of Little Amal a bit disturbing, I wouldn’t want to come fact to face with it on a dark night.
All that wooden latticework in my opinion looks way too much like a druidic Wicker Man for comfort. You know, the kind Imperial Rome claimed ancient Britons used for sacrificing living people on bonfires in nature worship ceremonies back in the day. Though modern practitioners claim they no longer perform human sacrifice.

When I saw “puppets” I naturally figured it would involve Greta Thunberg, Leo DiCaprio, Jane Fonda, David Attenborough and such. Too bad it isn’t. A 20,000 km hike of the climate millionaire mouthpieces would be something to see.
Greta would charter a pedicab, and fly to where it starts.
DiCaprio would have his stunt double do the walking part.

The irony of a herd of puppets to communicate crisis climate is astounding! All you have to do to see this is to look up the meanings of puppet. The ingenuousness and lack of self awareness of the woke in this and other schemes like crisis climate scientists pairing with comedians and clowns to get the ideas across is priceless unaware self mockery.

I have had careers in art and in science. They are two different things. Art is the expression of human imagination and interpretation of the world around us. It essentially the building of a model that has no requirement to actually represent the real universe except superficially. Science is the struggle to avoid the emotional, subjective, and imaginative interpretation of the world in favour of an objective analysis I of what we experience directly with our senses and perception.
The puppet brigade are doing art – all power to them, but they are using art to represent science and that is where they err. Unfortunately the audience these days, especially younger generations are largely untrained in the scientific process and critical thinking. They are fodder for this type of propaganda.
A few ropes across the road might assist gravity.
