Mandatory Indoctrination: UC San Diego’s Climate Change Education Requirement

Continuing the transformation of universities from education to indoctrination centers, the University of California, San Diego, has announced the Jane Teranes Climate Change Education Requirement (JTCCER) for incoming first-year students, starting fall 2024. This requirement, approved by the Academic Senate, is a clear example of the university’s shift from fostering critical thinking to promoting a singular ideological agenda.

The Facade of Empowerment

The JTCCER is presented under the doublespeak guise of “empowering students with knowledge and skills”, however, by mandating a specific viewpoint on a complex and multifaceted issue, UC San Diego is effectively narrowing the intellectual horizons of its students, guiding them towards a predetermined conclusion rather than encouraging open inquiry.

Indoctrination Disguised as Education

The requirement does not increase the number of courses for graduation, but it does increase the ideological load.

Courses approved to satisfy the JTCCER will overlap with general education or Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) courses, as well as courses that apply to major and minor requirements.

https://adminrecords.ucsd.edu/Notices/2023/2023-11-16-3.html

Courses approved for the JTCCER will overlap with general education or Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) courses, as well as major and minor requirements. This integration ensures that the climate change narrative permeates various aspects of the undergraduate curriculum, leaving little room for dissenting perspectives or critical analysis.

The Illusion of Choice

While the list of courses satisfying the JTCCER will be made publicly available, the real choice is illusory. The courses, undoubtedly, will be designed to align with the prevailing climate change orthodoxy, offering a one-sided view of a highly debatable field. This approach stifles academic freedom and critical thinking, turning education into a tool for ideological conformity.

Honoring Ideology over Inquiry

The JTCCER is named in honor of the late Jane Teranes, a teaching professor known for her contributions to climate change education. It symbolizes the university’s commitment to a specific ideological stance, rather than a dedication to unbiased academic inquiry.

The Future of Academic Freedom

The formation of a new Senate committee to oversee the JTCCER’s implementation is a concerning development. It indicates a long-term commitment to embedding this ideological stance in the university’s curriculum. The committee’s role in finalizing criteria for JTCCER courses further consolidates the control over what perspectives are deemed acceptable.

Conclusion: A Step Towards Ideological Uniformity

UC San Diego’s JTCCER is another in a long line of troubling steps towards ideological uniformity and intellectual conformity. The ongoing shift from education to indoctrination, where students are molded into ideologically aligned activists rather than being equipped with the critical thinking skills necessary to navigate complex issues, has become of hallmark of universities nationwide.

If they keep it up there will soon be as many genders as there are mental disorders defined in the DSM :<)

Winston Smith has been directed to reduce the next DSM to one page (an entry for Trump). All in the name of neurodiversity, neuroequity and neuroinclusion.

To say otherwise is ableism and congitivism. Which means expulsion for anyone who dares challenge the proliferation of gender and insanity.

The gender unicorn is already infinite, by the way. They be powered by the collective wind of an entire generation.

Lysenko would have loved to have had the global internet back in his day, along with financing from billionaires of similar ideological pursuasion. He could really sell his message then, like alarmist climate change is sold today.

Lysenko had a problem: His theories came up against a hard reality check with every harvest. It’s amazing how long he managed to dodge that, but the end was coming. By comparison, the climate fraudsters have made their claims unfalsifiable.

The fun now is to observe the effect this authoritarian foolishness is going to have in the long term. Such boneheadedness has been attempted many times and the result has always been rejection. Apart from the Mo Enthusiast areas obviously.

My guess is that dimwitted lefturd LibArts professors will be sent packing eventually but it’s just an opinion.

Hitler’s minions documented everything very carefully. Today’s brownshirts can’t read or write.

But perhaps their ChatGPT has been programmed to generate records of those who dare ask questions.

When their homes are being looted and former citizens are sent to the reeducation camps (UCSD being one of them), the brownshirts will just hold out their smart phones in salute and all the documenting will be done for them.

The US federal government MUST establish a maximum number of credit hours for 2 year, 4 year, master’s and doctorate degrees at 60, 120, 180, and 240 hours for the “school” to receive any federal grant or “college loan” monies.

US must set limits on funding degrees which have no employment potential, which, after cutting federal departments by 50% and other spending for NGOs, welfare, EPA etc. would end federal funding for envirowaco and social degrees since the fields are already overfull with graduates.

Finally, require applicants for the forest service or BLM and any other still similar extant departments to have actual degrees in forestry, mining, geology, animal husbandry, etc. that actually apply to managing the lands for the purpose of benefiting the US population.

THEN all the liberals in the employee of the “higher learning” institutions can fight over the 1/10th of the current jobs left.

Drake…all these people only echo what they hear.
They cannot understand the science and economics and security threat “green” propaganda has caused.

So start the firings ( shaming, cancelling,..) with the hard science cowards and then fire all the administrators and boards that endorsed this malarky.

Don’t limit the firings to “education” folks, go after the radical regulators, too.

It should be fairly easy to show the bill so far…add up all the wasted taxpayer and deficit raising rebates, funding, credits, contracts, etc….
The economic harm done by “green” is immense.
The national security threat is even more.

Since even private universities are showered with federal benefits, all higher education institutions should be forbidden to train students in fallacies. For example, the math department shouldn’t be able to demand that 2+2=5 is the correct answer on the mid-terms. By the way, what sort of instruction was given to the US citizens of Japanese and German descent during their WWII internment?

I cannot find anything specific answering that, except that “Over 4,000 students were allowed to leave the camps to attend college.”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internment_of_Japanese_Americans

It’s not clear whether the same privilege was extended to interned Germans and Italians, but there was a difference there: Japanese including American citizens were interned simply because of their descent and their location on the West Coast. There were no suspicions supported by evidence, but just racist allegations and a worry that you couldn’t know how they’d react if Japanese military landed and knocked on their door. (There was one case of a stranded pilot getting help from a Japanese-American family on an isolated island, and there was a not-entirely-irrational fear that the navy that had somehow managed to come undetected more than halfway across the Pacific to bomb Pearl Harbor _could_ come the rest of the way and make a landing on the west coast.)

Germans and Italians were not interned simply because of their descent. The interned were either citizens of enemy nations who could not be determined to be no danger, or those who were put them under specific suspicion by investigations. Children weren’t in the German and Italian camps unless their parents chose to bring them to the camp with the parents.

I expect that at least the Japanese and Germans would have formed schools for their children if the government failed to – they were quite orderly people and many of them were qualified to teach. Everything else could be improvised or supplied from the belongings they’d brought with them, if necessary.

Universities are creating armies of brownshirts. It’s not just in Massachusetts and California, though that’s where the religion is strongest.

It’s bad now. When they obtain a leader and take over a major political party (seems likely it will be the Democrats), we’re headed for an October Revolution and Bolshevism across the land. That’s what they want.

I taught at UCLA starting in 1973. I taught pathology to dental students. This was during the affirmative action era and at that time even women were considered. I arrived July 1973 and immediately was tasked with reviewing course materials for 28 students who received a non pass. All were admitted through AA. My opinion was that a number should never have been admitted at all. And I was proven right as many of those struggled though out the ensuing years.
The admin and some of the faculty would not do what was necessary and dismiss those who basically failed much of the curriculum. Unfortunately, they were foisted on the public because of the cowardice of both the administrators and the faculty.
I believe things have only gotten worse since then. The politics of academics drove me nuts particularly with endless meetings whose subjects could have been dealt with in 10 minutes rather than the hours they sometimes took. complete waste of time. I left and went into a surgery residency. Much better!

In my first year as a teaching assistant there was a lovely part native from way out of town in my section. She failed, but the Prof said to give her a few marks to put her over the edge. She struggled on for 18 months before failing out comprehensively. It was cruel. Of course now she would have graduated as a “fully qualified” nurse.

This is one of the reasons why universities are losing so much of their credibility these days because few institutions like them get onto woke bandwagons faster. It’s another reason that degrees from these schools don’t carry much more weight than high school diplomas in the past. Requirements like these also serve as a reminder that maybe most of these schools serve as little more than repositories for kids that aren’t ready to join the labor force yet. So while they’re there why not force-feed them a little leftist propaganda, particularly when leftist institutions like environmental groups make contributions to these schools.
