From NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT

I’m not quite sure why this is on BBC Verify!

As global leaders gather at the COP28 summit in Dubai, environmental activists around the world are still challenging climate sceptics. Young people from five countries told BBC News how they are trying to change the minds of those who wrongly claim climate change is not real.
Growing up in Egypt, artist Hossna Hanafy didn’t think climate change was a real issue. “I never thought it was a global thing, or that it might be related to human behaviour,” she says.
As the planet gets warmer and the polar ice caps melt, scientists say that Ms Hanafy’s home city of Alexandria, located on the Mediterranean coast, is at risk from rising sea levels.
Yet at school, she says her teachers mocked suggestions this might be the case, wrongly claiming this would “never happen”.

Today, she runs workshops where children and teenagers can learn about climate change and other environmental issues through crafts or games.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-67521051
Meanwhile back in the real world, sea levels in Alexandria have risen by about an inch during young Hossna’s life.
Maybe she should pay more attention to her teachers in future, who clearly know what they are talking about.

And why is she misleading by telling them that “solar energy is free”?
A job for BBC Verify, I think!
I really do think that this global moral panic has gone too far for rational argument to make any impact. In the west, people will kick back when they feel ‘green’ policies adversely affecting their quality of life, but I am not sure how it will play out in less developed parts of the world.
I would think that the general population in those less developed parts of the world will (do) want to enjoy the same quality of life as those in the west. That will not come from their countries being recipients of guilt payments by western governments as those funds will merely disappear into despotic pockets. But with energy supplied by fossil fuels and anything else that can be added into the mix, that prosperity will come.
Africa has had coal and oil for years in South Africa and Nigeria buy it more recent in other nations on that continent. Much of the energy will doubtless get exported but enough will remain for more of the populace to start seeing the benefits of exploiting strategic reserves of fossil fuels for domestic use.
mdlatarche and jim t combined grasp the whole deal; this global grift will continue because:
a. the general populace can be played emotionally, ‘child’s play’ for pols
b. the world-wide ruling class line their pockets and accumulate power
any change from this would have to be be seismic in a large way, and is beyond the power of those using means dependent on rational discourse alone
notice folks
One can really categorize these young activists as: prophets for profits …
Predictions based on faulty incomplete models are more in the realm of prophets (based on faith)
than on real scientific data. That the UAE leader has finally said at COP28 what should have been said long ago leaves at least some hope that this nonsense finds an end someday.
The psychological bombardment that children receive today at school is deplorable.
It might have been different back in the ‘60s and ‘70s, but it was just as pro-government and just as pervasive.
The proof is there are very few aspects of the ‘progressive’ agenda that haven’t been implemented, and fewer still that have been rolled back.
Please use another word.. I’m still a Deplorable, and proud of it.
I have read where he has ‘denied’ those statements.
Yes, but where did those young activists get their ideas from?
Full marks to Al Jaber
“”Al Gore calls UAE Cop28 ‘an abuse of public trust’””
It’s a bit of a mess
That is a question that deserves to be asked every time a “young activist” offers to change someone’s mind. Consider Greta. She started her “strike” in grade 9, age 15. Let us generously assume she didn’t just wake up that morning and decide to strike; she did so only after a year or two of studying the climate change issue.
What 13 or 14 year old has the intellectual tools to properly study the primary research literature? None.
She did not arrive at her position de novo. Even if she pretends that’s what happened—and I am pretty sure she doesn’t—she was not competent to arrive at an informed opinion. She, and the other young activists are necessarily just parroting stuff they read on social media.
Their argument boils down to: I read something on TikTok that seems familiar so I believe it and I can’t believe you need more.
Today’s youth are, dare I say it, low information.
But that is no accident. It has been done for a specific purpose.
Besides 13 or 14 year olds, their parents, teachers and law makers at every level all fall for the same load of malarky. It’s repeated 24/7 ad infinitum, so it must be true!
Of course, if you are young and you disagree with or are suspicious of any climate alarmist claim, you are finding fault with the careful research of thousands of experts more qualified than you.
You are right. It needs to cut both ways. Neither ignorant support nor ignorant opposition should go unchallenged. Being right for the wrong reason is still wrong. That is where a good teacher would find the space to make a life-changing difference.
I remember primary school in the early 1980s, where a rainy day outside meant The Last Fur Seal and Free to be You and Me and Ricki Ticki Tavi movie in thaw combo auditorium/cafeteria instead of recess. It was all ruey had to distract with. They were a dozen liberal college educated ladies and we weteabout200 k-6 graders.
Point: I was subjected to cartoon environmentalist propaganda so some hardworking teachers could pee and enjoy a lunch break on a rainy day.
Young activists become old very irritating activists.

A Malthusian litigates…
Packham is one of the worst people I have seen in a long time – low IQ and a high level of virtue signalling with no morals or ethics. Wasting courts time with a pointless, senseless case that only serves to make Chris Packham and his cronies feel adequate and has no purpose whatsoever beyond that.
I’d say he is pewkworthy

As I observe this barrage of CAGW doom-and-gloom being paraded on TV, I think that many young persons have enjoyed their role of “Useful Idiots”, just like the observation that Environmentalists are useful idiots to corrupt Politicians. Many young persons spouting their CAGW views appear so impassioned that they might actually believe what they are saying, but they got their minds poisoned by opportunists. Then along comes Becky Anderson, Senior Programming Director for CNN, who has degrees in Economics and Communication, and she spouts Doom Nonsense with great conviction, apparently searching for the crown of Queen of The Useful Idiots. When will we see an actual trial of this issue? Waiting…
trying to change the minds of those who wrongly claim climate change is not real.
Please have the intellectual honesty to properly define ‘climate sceptics’. We accept that climate change is real. We just question how serious it is and what might be causing it. But in this day and age you have no right to question the narrative. You mustn’t use your brain. You must simply obey.
People not profit
What the heck is that supposed to mean? Is the pursuit of a profit in some way always evil? What incentive to invest savings is supposed to replace profit? Can somebody please teach these simpletons some basic economics. Do they really want an economic system in which state bureaucrats decided what goods and services we are able to consume?
“People not profit” is a very socialist construct and likely communist in idology
They don’t really object to profit, only to those they dislike being the ones profiting.
Is it really “climate change”? The temperature might be up a little on average but is the climate any different than it was? Where I live I haven’t noticed any tropical flora and fauna moving in. It seems pretty similar to what I remember throughout my life. We let the activists define the argument and the terminology so it’s very scary to those who are not knowledgeable on the topic.
The World Meteorological Organization redefined climate to be only 30 years now..
I don’t know anyone who does not think that climate change is real.
The question is, has CO2 got anything to do with it?
What gets me is there’s a basic misunderstanding about the amount of energy required to melt the ice caps and how long it would take even if the temperature instantaneously increased to 4 degrees Celsius. It certainly couldn’t happen in one human lifetime.
Climate is measured over at least 30
yearsdays….climate is now 30 years according to the WMO.
It took 10,000 years of Holocene warmth to melt the great North American ice sheet which still hasn’t diminished Greenland or Antarctica. With the next glaciation cycle approaching, neither remaining ice fields have much chance to melt away before the next great refreeze
It hasn’t really finished yet. Some glaciers are remelting after the LIA. Two steps forward one back
And why is she misleading by telling them that “solar energy is free”?
Well it is just like rain is free but don’t take that too literally out in the desert children and always stay close to the grownups.
Simple minds, simple concepts.
Over 20 years ago, I was a field service technician for a company that owned those little boxes that supplied air at gas stations for filling tires and other in the Rocky Mountain region. A common complaint that I got, was that air was all around us and why should they be charged for filling the tires. The standard reply was that yes, air is free, but to compress it costs money. How else are you going to get it into your tire?
Same goes for solar & wind. Converting that “free” source into something else costs quite a bit of money.
….air was all around us and why should they be charged for filling the tires.
Well we do have a special right now on a double ended DIY hose that you can connect your flat one to another full one if you prefer?
That makes me wonder, here in Germany, all filling stations / petrol stations offer air for gears as water to fill radiators or to clean the frontshields for free without being obliged to refuel.
tires, not gears, sorry, missing edit function since weeks 🙁
Is that because if they charge there’s a contract with the buyer. If the tyre(s) is over/under inflated the legal action can be initiated if there’s an accident?
I seem to recall reading that somewhere
You serve yourself, as the most if not all filling stations are self service stations.
“for free” Impossible, at some point along the line.
Well, you could have used the Lauren Bacall method:
“You know how to whistle, don’t you, Steve? You just put your lips together and blow.” (as Marie ‘Slim’ Browning in To Have and Have Not)
https://youtu.be/xWwmd-aZa5g?t=162
and starting with the well documented flow of the Yellow River and the sediment load it carries into the ocean…
…..a simple BoE calculation anyone can do and assuming all other rivers of this world carry just half that load, Archimedes Principle accounts for ALL of that sea level rise
Then, add on the water that’s been/being abstracted from land bound aquifers another 50% rise from ‘wind blown dust/soot/smoke/sediment’ – you get the conclusion that the ocean should be rising by a whole load more than it actually is.
You’re then left with the conclusion that The Ocean is actually shrinking
i.e. Cooling
Which, unthinkable but real nightmare heaped upon nightmare, means that The Most Blinding Obvious Thing about global warming must actually apply;
i.e. A Warming Atmosphere represents a Cooling Earth
Yes, the whole of the western world is truly demented
Then add in seafloor spreading….
Don’t know of the rivers are filling the ocean or if they are spreading out faster, but do know not a problem in Alexandria.
She is reported to say “city of Alexandria, located on the Mediterranean coast, is at risk from rising sea levels.”
She may want to study a little history and see if they can add facts together
1 -Alexandria was founded around a small Ancient Egyptian town c. 331 BC by Alexander the Great.
2 –
http://www.unesco.org/csi/pub/papers2/alex.pdf— used to have the current and ancient overlayed.Figure 1 Showed the present shoreline and Old Shore Line of Alexandria – A causeway known as the Heptastadion, was constructed to link the mainland to the island of Pharos, thus creating two remarkable harbours: Portus Magnus to the east and Eunostus to the west. Within the innermost corner of the Eastern Harbour, close to the Heptastadion, a structure known as the Kibotos was built, and functioned as a lock connecting the sea with Lake Mariout to the south. The lake was in turn connected to the River Nile by canals, thus providing a link for maritime shipping to the inland waterways of Egypt and greatly increasing the possibilities for transport and commerce.
The causeway is now filled in and there is more dry land than sea.
3 – The North African Plate is sliding under the European Plate, so if anything it should be sinking.
1 + 2 + 3 = No sea level rise.
Interesting… Thanks.
Gore & Heinz-Kerry – what a double act Now, these guys really are filling young heads with utter nonsense. So, who is calling it out? Nobody apart from some Arab bloke.
“”Coal plants should not be permitted “anywhere in the world” the self-described “militant” U.S. climate envoy John Kerry said Sunday at the COP28 climate conference in Dubai. Kerry said he is becoming “more and more” militant about climate policy because people are avoiding responsibility and not doing as they are told””
https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2023/12/04/john-kerry-calls-himself-a-militant-and-demands-end-to-coal-plants-anywhere-in-the-world/
Got that? not doing as they are told
Al Gore calls UAE Cop28 ‘an abuse of public trust’
https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/other/al-gore-calls-uae-cop28-an-abuse-of-public-trust/ar-AA1kXsgN
Given that India and China have no intention on giving up on coal just how militant will Heinz-Kerry get? And now that Al Jaber has called their bluff by demanding they show the solutions, will he get militant-plus?
For a long time they’ve done an excellent job – via earstroking and/or cancellation etc – in holding the narrative line. But this has all fallen apart and I have noted that while the Grauniad is foaming at the mouth, the BBC is concentrating on the fallout from its coverage in Gaza and Israel. When they say impartiality, they mean fear of islamism.
My guess is that the former level of PANIC was not having the desired effect, they feel that panic slipping away, so the activists have decided the answer is to double down. I think that most people are realizing that it’s much ado about nothing, and are dealing with more important, actual concerns, instead.
(story tip) BBC story sez warming is spreading disease…Alaska has warmed 4 C over last 60 years and reindeer are becoming sick….does Santa need help? Apparently warming causes nothing but doom and gloom to those who deny the CO2 greening of the planet?
Interesting. In the absence of a link I put “Alaska has warmed 4 C BBC” into DuckDuck and the results were less than recent; going back to 2019.
In other BBC news, a Hamas fighter was violently raped by an Israeli hostage.

Why not add it?
Suzuki’s attempt at kiddie Christmas fear porn has backfired now that Santa’s home steadfastly refuses to melt, so they need something to scare the little darlings.
Don’t try this at home kids….
“A toaster placed under an electric vehicle by its owner to warm up its battery likely caused a fire that destroyed the car and damaged a nearby house in southern Denmark, police said Monday.
Police said that they “strongly discourage” people to use that method to heat power cells.”
…
The car’s owner faces a fine.

These activists get ammo from the likes of Lomberg who this morning on Fox said that climate change is a real problem.
Once they have a famous person such as he activists can quote him all day long.
Yeah, I get irritated every time I watch Lomborg on tv. He always has to emphasize that he thinks “climate change is real”. Where he gets that notion, I don’t know. It has certainly never been established that humans are causing the climate to change. So one wonders where Lomborg gets his information.
Lomborg is not helping the argument by believing in fairy tales.
Who is this ‘Lomberg’? (I don’t have TV)
Notice that while they protest climate they use fossil fuels, that is key, as the hypocrisy must be obvious.
Solar energy is free. Plant some seeds and free solar energy will feed the plants. Clear some dead wood and build a fire. Free solar energy will heat you and help cook dinner. Fill up with gas and drive to your grandparents for holidays. Free solar energy created the fuel in your tank. Free solar energy keeps the planet livable and created all life on Earth. But turning sunshine into electricity is not free and, in many assessments is actually a drain on resources, not a gain. Anyone calling themselves an educator who fills young minds with climate catastrophism drivel is sabotaging the lives of those they “educate” with propaganda and lies.
Speaking of activism and COPs :
Since everything else failed to reduce CO2 emissions and since there may be a causal link between COPs and climate activism on one hand and CO2 concentration increase on the other, alarmists should test this hypothesis by removing the next COPs and all kind of climate activism for the next, say, 50 years.
Who knows ? This experiment may be successful.
“People not profit” and “Human rights not property rights” ignores the fact that wages are profit too, and that property rights is no more about property having rights than “water rights” assigns rights to water.
The people that dreamed up those slogans are clever but evil. The useful idiots who parrot them without thinking are too stupid to be evil.
Greta, you out there? You listening?
Further to my comment regarding the ice caps melting. I may be wrong as it’s a few decades since I did any physics! If the ice caps are slowly melting then the necessary energy can only come from three sources, the sun, the atmosphere and the oceans.
Assuming the solar output is constant, if ice is melting due to atmospheric temperature or ocean temperature then am I right in thinking that a dynamic equilibrium between these temperatures and melting would develop? Basically that the melting ice cap would stabilise atmospheric and ocean temperatures?
Solar output is not constant. It varies in an approximately 11-year cycle and an approximately 400-year cycle. The Sun has entered a Grand Solar Minimum and its output is expected to decline over the next several decades. NOAA forecast that the Sunspot Number will start dropping in 2025 and reach zero in 2040 when their forecast ends.
https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/products/predicted-sunspot-number-and-radio-flux
Greta’s shift to campaigning for the eradication of the Jewish people is likely a signal where this is going.
People sarcastically call for Al-BBC-Jazeera Verify, since we all know the outcome of such an effort – OMG! We’re Doooomed!
Yes, and for the following storytelling with the children, tell them that that it was an illegal propane truck in Bernie’s Vermont and that it was oil slickened roads instead of the impossible case of snow.
Heavy snowfall drops tree branches onto power lines, causing outages in New England – ABC News
At least some countries have school systems that are willing to give students an alternative and realistic viewpoint about the alleged “climate crisis”. In North America, much of Europe and Australia/New Zealand, the curriculum has been hijacked by the alarmist faction, and when the teachers themselves know nothing more than that curriculum, it’s a guarantee the students can be more easily brainwashed.
Well, if she is trying to convince sceptics that ”climate change is not real” then she is barking up the wrong tree to begin with. She is the one wrongly claiming.
She’s doing what she has to do to make a living doing arts and crafts with children. Maybe she knows she’s selling nonsense and has an excuse for herself.
