German Greens in Crisis, Plummet 40% In Opinion Polls as Anger Mounts Over Bans, Scandals

From the NoTricksZone

By P Gosselin

Being the media darlings has not prevented the German Greens from collapsing in the public opinion polls. 40% of green voters have taken their approval away since it peaked in popularity at 23%.

A series of unpopular, draconian policy proposals along with cronyism scandals have resulted in a body blow for Green Party popularity in Germany.

Accusations of cronyism have surfaced after a top advisor of Green Economics Minister Robert Habeck awarded state contracts to family members and other close associates.

Secretary for Climate Affairs Dr. Patrick Graichen is accused of having awarded government contracts to a research institute run by multiple members of his family. He also appointed his best man to head the German Energy Agency.

The woes for Graichen may also be compounding as “a suspicion of violations of citation rules” regarding his doctoral thesis has surfaced.

Today critical site Pleiteticker.de here reports “German Greens are in crisis!”

“Thanks to the Graichen scandal and the dispute between the Socialist-Green government over the heat pump law, the party has recently plummeted in the polls to 14 percent, well behind the hard right AfD (17 percent) – ten months ago the Greens were still at 23 percent,” reports Pleiteticker. That means the party has lost 40% of its voter base.

This is the result of the most recent INSA survey by “BILD am Sonntag”.

“More than half of Germans (56 per cent) say Habeck is doing a bad job, only 25 per cent attest him good work – in June, 2022, 43 per cent of people still thought Habeck was a good minister. Forty-two per cent even think Habeck is damaging the reputation of the Greens, only 9 per cent think he is helping the party’s reputation,” comments Pleiteticker.

The future for the Greens will remain bleak, with no signs of a turnaround in sight. In fact chances are better than even that things are going to get a lot worse as the bills for energy and drastic green policies start coming due.

For corruption that rewards… see the EU. von der Leyen – former German defence secretary – is the perfect example of that.

“The future for the Greens will remain bleak”

Turkeys don’t vote for Christmas – or Thanksgiving for that matter. But this caught my eye this morning:

“German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has sharply criticized climate activists as “nutty” for drastic protests such as blocking streets or gluing themselves to famous paintings in museums

“I think it’s completely nutty to somehow stick yourself to a painting or on the street,” Scholz said during a visit to an elementary school in the town of Kleinmachnow outside of Berlin

Even though Scholz expressed criticism on Monday of the ways climate activists draw attention to global warming, he is committed to transforming Germany’s economy to be greener and more climate-friendly.”
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/olaf-scholz-ap-berlin-b2343580.html?0=utm_source=ground.news&1=utm_medium=referral

I can’t recall any British politician referring to XR, IB, or JSO etc as “nutty” and they most definitely are. But then, for Scholz the penny has yet to drop.

So they first created the Green Shirts and Climate Jugend and now they are in power want to get rid of the Green Shirts. Will we see an other night of the long knives?

And of course what progressives hate/fear most are other progressives. For radical progressives you are never radical enough.

Greens don’t want a greener world in the environmental sense, they just want control over each and every (remaining) person.

it didn’t work the last time – how do we rate the chances this time, esp as the mineral content of HeatPumpWater will be Precisely Nil

SUV became so popular because they don’t have to comply with emission and safety standards so much less headache for the producer.

I’d argue that the SUV fills a perceived buyer’s need. They are larger, making them feel safer to the driver. The driver is higher, typically with better visibility than from a little 4-banger. SUV seats can usually be reconfigured to allow larger items to be moved. And the fuel efficiency of a modern SUV isn’t crappy compared to older models.

Now adding a few thousand pounds of weight to an SUV will do nothing good from the frequency of needed tire changes at about $1000 a set. At a guess, an EV won’t be able to pull anymore for any real distance. Certainly there are YTs out there saying EV mileage drops like a rock with towing. And, of course, larger, heavier batteries won’t take any less time, or money, to recharge. None of these EV features meets a perceived buyer’s need, with the possible exception of the added “smug” (ala South Park’s Prius episode).

SUV’s are an answer to regulations about car seats for kids and limits on how many people can be carried. eg, twins + one other kid difficult in the back seat of a 4banger.

Scotty is a “glass is empty” kind of guy. Many people want and need versatile vehicles that can safely and comfortably carry a family or a load of cargo and occasionally tow something. It has nothing to do with emissions. People do want safe vehicles, and cross-over, vans and full size SUVs do just fine in that category. Anyhow, it is OUR CHOICE to buy them or not. Butt out EPA!

In 1986, we had three young children and needed a large family hauler. By that time, old-fashioned station wagons were on the way out and never really offered much more than a sedan. We rode with some friends who drove a Chevrolet Suburban and were hooked. We subsequently owned three Suburbans and later “downsized” to Tahoes as the children left the nest.

Sure, if you live in a 30th floor apartment in Manhattan, you don’t need an SUV or even a car for that matter. Get out of the “Acela Corridor” (https://www.travel-industry-dictionary.com/acela-corridor.html), and things change dramatically.

Repeat the old adage: Nazism, Fascism, and Communism are just branches of the same Marxist tree. This explains clearly why all Marxist press and government hacks abuse language to stir up trouble by calling everybody who disagrees with them “far right”. The reality is, the proclaimed “far right” are merely political middle-of-the-road people who actually have ethics, morals, and manners. It also explains the ignorance and illiteracy of the “Left” when they accuse those who disagree with them of being Nazis and Fascists, because Nazis and Fascists are the “Left”.

One of the reasons the Green Party is nowhere in Canada is that the NDP and Liberals have espoused their policies.

Similarly, in Germany, even if the Green Party itself completely collapses, some other parties will try to pick up those votes.

On the other hand … In a country where no party gets a majority, a tiny party can blackmail its larger coalition partner and have an outsized influence on policy. That happened in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The Greens blackmailed the NDP to block a pipeline which would allow Alberta to get its oil to tidewater.

What we actually need is for the public to become disgusted with ‘green’ policies and start actively voting against those parties that have such policies. We’re seeing some evidence that’s happening. link

Multiple parties are inevitable whenever you have a parliamentary style government.
That is, each party is awarded a number of seats based on the number of votes they get.
A two party system is inevitable when you have single member districts. That is there is a separate election for each seat in the legislative branch.

Seriously?
Name one political party represented in the UK parliament, or even the Scottish Welsh and Northern Ireland assemblies, that hasn’t adopted the GangGreen agenda.

The Greens are the apotheosis of a “small fringe group with radical policies”. They hijacked the Government, Civil Service, Academia, the Media, the Churches, the Judiciary and every other institution, long ago.

Neither the Dimocrats nor the Rinos in the US have much common sense, either.

Leftists by definition think government should control economic activity, to direct it. When government is regulator and participant corruption is automatic.
It’s why Quebec is by far the most corrupt province in canada, it’s inevitable as the government inserts itself into more and more aspects of the economy.

Yep. Power corrupts. The chance of corruption depends on folks’ fear of being caught.

The higher up they are the less vulnerable they feel. Petraeus comes to mind (somebody who really should have known better).

For a variety of reasons, the Ukraine has implemented an aggressive anti-corruption campaign. They’re nailing all kinds of people, including the chief judge of their supreme court. link

I think we should just automatically assume corruption and pursue it with great vigor.

Everything Gosselin writes about the Green party is true, but that isn’t the real question.
The real question is why the Scholz and the Social Democrat Party are allowing their German government to be dominated by a Green party that scored 2/3rds of the SDPs. The Greens are running both foreign and domestic policy for Germany – what exactly are Scholz and the SDP responsible for?
This isn’t quite as bad as the tail wagging the dog, but it is certainly its ass(es).

That’s because Gosselin’s party does not have an absolute majority in parliament.
Because of that he had to form a coalition in order to form a government.
If the Greens leave the coalition, the government collapses.

Both the Green’s and Gosselin know that, which results in the Green’s being able to lead Gosselin’s party around by the nose.

Back in the 1970s when ‘die Gruene’ were a tiny budding little party there was a scandal around a few members who had a rather dubious background in WWII years, like having been officers in the Waffen SS. The apologetic machinery made overtime arguing that they must have turned a corner and were now devoting their efforts to worthy environmentalist causes.

I had a different look at it because the green program of that outfit was full of draconian totalitarian measures that suggested to me that ex-nazis would feel completely at ease, that it was their natural home.

Looking at what is happening now they have managed to get power, it appears nothing really has changed since the 70 ties.

This reaction was overdue as people realize that the Greens are mainly promoters of pipe dreams like low cost reliable clean energy. Except just as the Holy Roman Empire was never holy, Roman or an empire, the energy they propose has never been cheap, nor reliable, nor clean. It’s just a catchphrase to enable governments to raise taxes while imposing new laws and restrictions on consumers with no positive results to show for them.

It seems that the young Green MPs are ignorant of the recent history of their own country , facts any child would have learnt at an elementary stage . Yet are controlling the most fundamental change in Germany’s economy and way of life since the change from an agrarian to an industrial society . You might think that that would require intelligence and knowledge of a pretty high order . Not necessary say the Greens:

Lies, damned lies and statistics.
In the 2021 Federal Election, the Green Party obtained 14.8 percent of the votes. The most
recent poll puts them on 14 percent. So, looking it that way, the Greens are maintaining their support.
So you can say that they have lost a lot of support since August 2022 or you can say that they are at much the same level they got in the last election.
You pays your money…….
But if they are at much the same level as they got at the last Federal Election, how is it that their future looks bleak? Things might get worse for them, but at the moment that’s just speculation.
