The Conversation: “Is acting on climate change as important as love and bedtime stories?”

Essay by Eric Worrall

“… if parents do nothing, they fail their children …”

What makes a good parent? Is acting on climate change as important as love and bedtime stories?

Craig Stanbury, Monash University

What makes a good parent? Most would say a good parent loves and nurtures their child with the ultimate aim of helping them flourish – now and into the future. A good parent will feed their child, give them space to play and time to use their imagination, make sure they get an education and medical care, listen to their troubles, and teach them to one day be autonomous adults.

However, does being a good parent involve anything more than this?

In her book, Parenting on Earth, philosopher and mother Elizabeth Cripps argues that to do right by their kids, parents must also attempt to do something about the problems caused by climate change.

Cripps does not claim that it will be possible to do this all the time. (Climate action needs to be balanced against other duties involved in raising a child.) It may seem futile at times. But, if parents do nothing, they fail their children.

The suggestion that climate activism is as important as love is not only absurd, in my opinion it is dangerous.

If climate activism is as important as love, then parents who don’t show the expected level of commitment to climate activism are unfit parents.

The following was written by Tim Flannery in 2019;

Why ‘predatory’ climate deniers are a threat to our children

Tim Flannery 17 September 2019

In this age of rapidly melting glaciersterrifying megafires and ever more puissant hurricanes, of acidifying and rising oceans, it is hard to believe that any further prod to climate action is needed.

My children, and those of many prominent polluters and climate denialists, will probably live to be part of that grim winnowing – a world that the Alan Joneses and Andrew Bolts of the world have laboured so hard to create.

How should Australia’s parents deal with those who labour so joyously to create a world in which a large portion of humanity will perish? As I have become ever more furious at the polluters and denialists, I have come to understand they are threatening my children’s well-being as much as anyone who might seek to harm a child.

Flannery shies away from articulating the logical conclusion of his suggestion that “predatory” climate deniers are harming their own children and the children of others, but it seems pretty obvious where this is headed.

Unless we challenge this outrageous narrative, it is only a matter of time until some deep green politician advances a plan to “rescue” children from those unfit climate denier parents, by placing “predatory deniers” into the same legal category as pedophiles.

I would argue that fanatic belief is abusive, whether Jesus coming back real soon now or Paul Ehrlich is a prophet environmentalism.
Inflicting your obsessions on others is wrong, and they should seek counseling.

If it were, there would be no climate hactivists that feel otherwise. But everything else is #1 and Climate Change is #2…a big pile.

Isn’t it appropriate, that with the help of the sycophantic media, Hillary tipped her hand with that one. In essence move aside parents leave this to the Central Authoritarians. In the final analysis the children will spit on their parents grave. It’s not a coincidence that about the time bubba was president that the public school diploma became a Cracker Jack surprise.

Although, It could stress more the part about CO2, which the propagandist’s consider a poison and want to strip form the atmosphere, feeding plants that give back our life sustaining oxygen. What frightens me the most is these clowns messing with the atmo to reduce CO2.

Never considered till recently that the end days would be an act of Pseudo-Intellectual Suicide. But here we are reading about it in once reputable scientific journals.

Only the first paragraph is true: “What makes a good parent? Most would say a good parent loves and nurtures their child with the ultimate aim of helping them flourish – now and into the future. A good parent will feed their child, give them space to play and time to use their imagination, make sure they get an education and medical care, listen to their troubles, and teach them to one day be autonomous adults. ”

Those “most” would be absolutely right — parents are also responsible for the temporal and spiritual education of their children.

The BAD thing to do is grind your children’s faces into the intellectual filth that masquerades as “truth” in today’s world — and keep grinding until they can spout it back verbatim.

“a good parent loves and nurtures their child with the ultimate aim of helping them flourish and deal with the real world successfully – now and into the future”

Indulging their fantasies and misconceptions is not an act of love. Correcting them is. Coddling to avoid hurt feelings makes them weak and engenders future misery.

Climate doom is the most widespread, persistent mass psychogenic illness in the world today. Teaching your children the truth and about Earth’s climate and paleoclimate to give them perspective will inoculate them against this insidious mental illness.

From the article: “In her book, Parenting on Earth, philosopher and mother Elizabeth Cripps argues that to do right by their kids, parents must also attempt to do something about the problems caused by climate change.”

What problems caused by CO2? There is no evidence CO2 has anything to do with the Earth’s weather patterns. There is no evidence CO2 is causing any problems. This woman should educate herself before trying to educate her children. Otherwise, they will all stumble into the ditch together.

My notes for if I am asked that question:
Why we Should not try to control climate

The anthropogenic global warming (AGW) hypothesis can be succinctly stated as: CO2 from burning fossil fuels is warming the atmosphere” Some add that this is inducing catastrophic damages so the acronym becomes CAGW. Here are several reasons to reject the hypothesis and any attempt to control CAGW.

  1. Humans are not the main cause of rising CO2. Ed Berry
  2. Temperature leads CO2 increases on all time lines from months to millennia. Climate4you, Parcel Richet 2021.
  3. CO2 absorption bands are saturated and more will have little effect. Happer and van Wijngaarden
  4. CO2 emissions have no significant impact on 14 different temperature data sets. Wallace, Christie, D’Aleo
  5. There is no discernible hot spot that is predicted by all GCMs. Christie and McKittrick.
  6. Rising CO2 has not caused increasing trend in extreme weather.
  7. Failed predictions from 40 years of CAGW advocates demonstrates a lack of scientific rigor.
  8. No evidence of accelerating sea level rise.
  9. Error propagation analysis shows that the GCM output has no information about the future climate. Pat Frank
  10. Much of the alarm is misstated or unfounded (ie 1.5 C is tipping point, attribution studies)

I’ll add another if I may.

In 2008 thank’s to the banking crisis, and 2021 (probably more significant) thanks to covid industrial activity and human CO2 emissions fell substantially. Non of this was noticeable on the Keeling curve.

What Ms. Cripps and all of her fellow climate believers need to do is take their households off-grid and shut off their natural gas supply and run their homes off of rooftop solar panels. When they are all sitting in a cold and dark house without electricity and heat after a couple of sunless days, they can be rest assured that they are doing it for the climate and their children.

Good luck explaining to the children why it is necessary.

This is why it is so important for us to get our message out in clear, easy to understand English. Short to the point messages that any grade schooler can understand. We don’t need all the math and science included in our message but make it easily available for everyone. Be honest, be simple, be clear and be brief.

What’s that got to do with this?

Nor are you interested in anything MTG says, other than when it suits your purposes when, suddenly, she becomes your go to standard.

But of course the clip had to cut and doctored before it suits the purposes of fanatics like yours.

I can do the same. I undertook the thoroughly unpleasant task of crawling through past comments of yours and picked what I wanted from them. Guess what I came up with:

“Climate change. Is not. A problem.”

That was easy – Next!

Actually I am. I find her the most vile right wing conservative there is. Hateful, searingly hypocritical. Here is a woman lecturing foster parents, implying they are not good parents, because they are not biological parents and all the time she is screwing her personal trainer, resulting in the destruction of her family. You have to admit that is not acceptable. Don’t you?

I’d agree that Hunter Biden and MTG are on about the same level….. This week she posted a video denouncing how vile Hunter was for having an account on Pornhub where he posted his dirty videos. She told the crowd how immoral HB was and how it just proved what a terrible person he was. Fair enough, but how is it she is OK for one D J Trump to screw the actual porn stars of Pornhub and he is the greatest President ever, but somehow Hunter, who is only the son of the president, is the devil for just posting? She has a very flexible moral compass I think.

This article doesn’t splice and dice a video clip.

That alone should alert you to the nature of these ‘news’ shows.

I find her the most vile right wing conservative there is.

Why? because you don’t like her private life?

Why don’t you get a life and judge her on her policies? It’s typical that the left delight in personal smears and sensationalism rather than concentrating on the political objectives of politicians.

To which the usual retort is “but so and so on the right does the same thing” however, your hypocrisy is revealed when the left divides the country over identity politics, sexual politics, race politics and abortion politics.

Don’t give me your crap. You lot aren’t interested in children other than using them to your political advantage.

If you have a clip where she doesn’t attack this adoptive parent for being an adoptive parent, then I’d like to see it…. But the fact is she stood up there and told the world she was less of a parent because she was not a biological parent.

Why don’t you get a life and judge her on her policies? “
She did this in her capacity as a politician, it had nothing to do with her private life so … yes Hottie I am judging her for her policies and they are as scummy as she is.

I’m so glad my children are now adults. Even when they were kids without woke politics, their teachers were terrified of me.

I almost rampaged through the school and occupied the head teachers room for an hour until she came and spoke to me, which she didn’t. They threatened to call the police, but I told them to do it as I’m an ex cop and would have them on my side. They didn’t bother dialling 999 (911 in the US).

On another occasion after confronting the head teacher and the head of the board of governors in a cosy chat I had a letter from the local authority banning me from the school. I contacted the head of children’s services who wrote the letter, invited him to our house for an early morning meeting and explained my side of the story. He lifted the ban (which was in place for all of 12 hours) told me to tear his letter up, drove my daughter to school that morning and escorted her into school.

We eventually had one assistant head teacher in charge of pastoral care take early retirement because of his incompetence and managed to have the head teachers contract renewal refused. She was essentially sacked from one of the most prestigious grammar schools* in SE England.

Never, ever give in to these people! Our children’s care is in our hands, not the hands of petty, tyrannical bureaucrats. They have ‘care’ of them with our permission for a few short years of their life. Even today I would go to the wall for my grown children. They know I always have their back against injustices. As it is, both my daughters can now take care of themselves, and do.

*For our American friends, Grammar schools are publicly funded secondary schools, as most are in the UK, which were established to address the inequality between the poor and the wealthy. They accepted children who passed their 11+ exams (an exam held across the nation between Primary School and Secondary school) no matter the school or background they came from. They were centres of academic excellence the left despised, so they targeted them for closure in favour of Comprehensive schools that conform to the lowest common denominator. Fortunately some Grammar schools across the country survived.
