They Touched Greta! Climate Activists Vow Huge Street Protests

Essay by Eric Worrall

In the wake of Greta being forcibly removed from a coal mine expansion protest in Germany, young activists have vowed to protest in the streets “in huge numbers”.

Climate activists vow to take to streets to stop fossil fuel extraction

‘Cease and desist’ letter signed by over 650,000 people sent to oil and gas CEOs follows removal of Greta Thunberg from coal protest

Hundreds of thousands of young climate activists have said they will continue “protesting in the streets in huge numbers” against fossil fuels, a day after Greta Thunberg was removed by German police from a condemned village atop a massive coal deposit.

In a cease-and-desist letter to the CEOs of fossil fuel companies, youth campaigners accuse them of a “direct violation of our human right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment, your duties of care, as well as the rights of Indigenous people”.

“This cease-and-desist notice is to demand that you immediately stop opening any new oil, gas or coal extraction sites, and stop blocking the clean energy transition we all so urgently need,” the letter says.

It gets funnier – the Greta arrest was actually staged (h/t ctm);

I doubt a few angry hippies and their kids will deter Germany from their coal mine expansion. Despite their green pretensions, the German nation is in a desperate situation, they really need that coal.

Germany’s Energy Crisis Sends It Tumbling Down Investment Rankings

By Irina Slav – Jan 16, 2023, 2:48 AM CST

The energy shortages plaguing Europe’s largest economy since 2021 have affected its attractiveness as an investment destination.

According to a report in the German daily Augsburger Allgemeine, Germany now ranks 18th out of 21 countries, falling four places in the ranking produced by the German economic research institute ZEW, Reuters reported.

The institute cited higher energy costs and a labor shortage for the revision of Germany’s place in the ranking, along with the slow pace of innovation and a complicated bureaucratic environment.

Soaring gas prices have shaken the German industry and prompted the government to spend billions of euros on helping businesses, as well as households, survive. Even with the state aid, however, many German businesses are curbing their activities or moving them to lower-cost energy locations such as the United States and Asia.

Personally I’m not expecting “huge numbers” to protest, maybe one or two protest marches if they are lucky. Europeans withering under skyrocketing energy prices have too many other problems on their plate, to worry about whether Greta got manhandled, or whether more coal gets mined.

In any case, it is way too cold for a proper street party.

Very hard to see how this staged arrest can be lived down.

So… she is most certainly ‘touched’, but in this case leapt into their welcoming arms for the gathered PR snappers? And geniuses like Dam and Dam (not young) still got excited?

Um…from the initial camera angle it looks like she’s touching the policeman in a very personal way. Also at 26 seconds. Unfortunate, that. This staged arrest is comedy gold.

In a cease-and-desist letter to the CEOs of fossil fuel companies, youth campaigners accuse them of a “direct violation of our human right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment, your duties of care, as well as the rights of Indigenous people”.

So how many “Indigenous People” were at her staged protest arrest?
She certainly isn’t indigenous … perhaps she wasn’t in school long enough to learn how to spell indignant

What about Greta is so annoying? Is it that she is brainwashed in a way that makes her angry at almost everyone else in the world for failing to stop an imaginary climate boogeymen?

Do other teenagers feel the same way from the same brainwashing or is Greta an exception? I have no contact with teenagers, so have no idea how they think these days. Greta seems like an angry trained parrot to me.

I suggested a new unit in a comment the other day…kiloGreta being large enough to be practical. Regarding the use of realist, or rationalist instead of skeptic.

“Just suggesting stealing a page from the watermelon playbook. Changing global warming, to climate change…. to global heating….and climate crisis seems to have increased their media coverage by a couple of kiloGretas per day…..where a single Greta is wooden nickel’s worth of end-of-the-world content.”

From what I can tell it’s very much a case of some do, some don’t. But very few seem to be anywhere near that fanatical.

I find Greta entertaining, even useful, not annoying. Her famous “How dare you?” was addressed to the UN & Co. So alarmism has a civil war going on. I wrote this over 3 years ago when Greta first appeared: https://www.cfact.org/2019/09/28/is-climate-alarmism-tearing-itself-apart/

Look at the report on the CAPES math teacher qualification exam in France.

https://capes-math.org/data/uploads/rapports/rapport_2022.pdf
notably “Première épreuve écrite” which shocked France for the level of its questions; questions are here. (You can probably read some of it knowing no French at all.)

You have to be bac+5 (so 23 years old for normal school timeline) to try the exam.

One question was “on the plane, does 2*x = 3 describes a line”, and many couldn’t answer it.
Many similar 14 or 15 years old level couldn’t be answered correctly.

At 23 years of math studying in France, you have people who tried to exbibit a counter example of “irrational + irrational = irrational ” with sqr(4) + sqr(9) = 5 as a counter example.

Some confuse irrationals with complexes. Some believe irrationals form a group.

And these don’t seem to be exceptions: all the first questions (which are so simple you can solve in the head while watching TV) have been failed by some students.
So now only is the level of the exam an absolute shock for the French population, the contrast with just 30 years old exams is stunning! And these were only for bac+3 in math, so 21 years old (for normal timeline).

I don’t think many who tried the exam today would even understand the questions of these 25 or 30 years old exams!

As a teen, I remember my first idiotic assaults (statements so idiotic and insane they make you wonder what’s happening, leaving you stunned, almost incapacitated from the idiocy level) were:

  • men have more sex than women (implicit: heterosexuals)
  • renewable energy (solar + wind) is the path forward and can power countries (modern countries like France)

For HOURS I wondered how people could make such insane claims.
Since then I have been exposed to numerous idiotic claims from adults. These adults are clearly genuine and weren’t trying to make feel weird. They believed their claims.

Staged arrest of the Doom Princess? Sure, it looks like a casual and staged event, but the video will soon be tortured, like climate change data traditionally is, then the Doomster will be tazed, pepper sprayed, held in a choke hold, handcuffed, beaten, and dragged away by the police, all the while shouting “I can’t breathe”. Wait for it.

The entire CAGW issue is staged, start to finish, when folks stop to deeply analyze the whole thing …

From Frontline’s 2007 “Hot Politics” program, where they interviewed Sen Tim Wirth about the 1988 James Hansen Senate hearing:

DEBORAH AMOS: On Capitol Hill, Sen. Timothy Wirth was one of the few politicians already concerned about global warming, and he was not above using a little stagecraft for Hansen’s testimony.

TIMOTHY WIRTH: We called the Weather Bureau and found out what historically was the hottest day of the summer. Well, it was June 6th or June 9th or whatever it was. So we scheduled the hearing that day, and bingo, it was the hottest day on record in Washington, or close to it.

DEBORAH AMOS: [on camera] Did you also alter the temperature in the hearing room that day?

TIMOTHY WIRTH: What we did is that we went in the night before and opened all the windows, I will admit, right, so that the air conditioning wasn’t working inside the room. And so when the- when the hearing occurred, there was not only bliss, which is television cameras and double figures, but it was really hot.

What Progressives don’t seem to understand is that while phony outrage works when times are good, they’ll fall flat when people are experiencing the consequences of bad policy. The vocal minority may continue being vocal, but those now paying >2x energy bills and rolling blackouts will not sympathize.
