Climate Activist Aussie Netball Players Wipe Out their Own Sponsorship

Essay by Eric Worrall

The Australian Netball Association has just wiped out their own funding, by alienating Australia’s richest woman with their green wokery.

Netball in turmoil as Gina Rinehart’s Hancock Prospecting pulls ‘ground-breaking’ $15m sponsorship

A week from hell for Netball Australia has taken another twist after Rinehart’s mining giant pulled out of the historic deal.

Gina Rinehart’s mining empire Hancock Prospecting has withdrawn its controversial $15m sponsorship deal with Netball Australia after it sparked a week of turmoil in the sport.

Players were reluctant to embrace the mining giant’s backing and wear its branding on their playing dresses after Indigenous player Donnell Wallam voiced concerns over comments made by the company’s founder, and Rinehart’s father, Lang Hancock.

The players’ questioning of Hancock Prospecting’s ideals relating to climate change further made them uncomfortable with the association.

Netball Australia had labelled the sponsorship deal as a “ground-breaking” partnership for the future of the sport, but the deal was a Pyrrhic victory, given the damage it caused in player relations.

Perhaps the players who just killed their own funding could spend a moment reflecting on where all the material required to build their green energy revolution is supposed to come from, if mining is such an objectionable activity.

I don’t like calling people names, but I don’t think you need a crystal ball to figure out what I’m thinking right now. I feel sorry for whichever association members put effort into landing this sponsorship deal, only to see it torn apart by their ungrateful players.

Correction (EW): The Summary on the WUWT home page and Twitter said “Basketball”, should have said “Netball”. Apologies for any confusion.

Netball Australia should demand the AFL bankroll them.

The AFL with their bemusing attempts to claim Woman’s AFL is a highly marketable professional sport people have been secretly desiring for decades is now actively competing for the ‘woman’s sports’ TV demographic.

Makes sense that the AFL should pay Netball compensation.

There are State elections looking in Victoria. Some popular topics are in bidding wars between opposing parties. One is health care. Another is in the wind because the Victorian public is nuts about its sport, esp Australian Rules Football.
The voting public seems unable to understand that instead of paying $2,000 a year for the family to go to the footy, the family might better spend that $2,000 on building new hospitals. This lack of understanding is illustrated by this story of the Netball Australia folk.
It is often said half in jest that modern youngsters think that will is made in a carton, so what do cows have to do with it? There is a great shortage of even rudimentary economic understanding here. Geoff S

They probably believe that there would be no problem spending money on both.
In the US, we have senior Democrat politicians who openly declare that more government spending is always good.

In the 1980s when Lang Hancock is accused of racist talk, I was involved in various ways that gave rare insight. What a load of silly gossip we now hear from some people ignorant of history!!!
In that era, most people said words expressing their frustration that the aboriginal problem had not been solved after spending billions of taxpayer money on just about every scheme for betterment that anyone could think up. My own employer, in mining, lost millions when millions meant a lot, by legal judges and pollies giving special land rights to aborigines who denied access for exploration and mining.
Part of the problem was lack of thanks. The bigger the sit-down handouts became, the more was demanded, with nought given in return.
Exasperation was widespread among thinking people unable to solve the problem despite bending over backwards to help. We, our little group, built schools, swimming pools, houses, provided a high level of local employment and training, often to meet an outcome of the recipient wandering off with no intention of teaching kith and kin at a time of gross abuse of free grog and growing drug problems.
It is unrealistic to transpose what happened in society 50 years ago with what a few pansy thinkers of today think an ideal world should be like. If they hate present society so much, they are free to spend their own money improving society. Few of them do. Geoff S

Former Liberal WA Premier Richard Court, later Ambassador to Japan, was foster father to an Aboriginal girl and was very interested in supporting Aboriginal schooling, he proposed a system of transporting children from remote settlements to the closest public schools and providing them with boarding accommodation Monday to Friday at taxpayer’s expense.

He was accused by the minority activist mob of planning to return to what they call “the stolen generations”, children taken into protective custody deemed by Colonial and later State governments to have been at risk, regardless of the child’s ethnic background.

The attitude of being victims continues in sport and elsewhere today.

Apologies for any confusion.
As if there might be some people who were not confused?
Come on, just say ‘Sorry for the confusion.’

Gina Rinehart’s father, Lang Hancock made those comments that upset the indigenous netball player back in 1984. The netball association is in dire financial straits and that $15 million was a life line.

Lang Hancock also once commented that the best way to help the poor is not to become one of them, meaning get a job and work hard.

It has been rather funny to watch. Netball is the most played female sport in Australia and these idiots have also manage to remove some funding for the grassroots of the sport. The indigenous netballer who first raised the “I don’t want to wear anything that reminds me of a something a man said about 40 years ago and who is now dead” is reported as being shocked and astonished that the sponsorship has been withdrawn.

The real upside is that public comment in Australia has been almost totally supportive of Gina Hancock and Hancock Prospecting, the company providing the sponsorship. Some companies seem to have developed an instant backbone and are warning sports they sponsor and support about the consequences of biting the hand that feeds them.

I am still trying to work out whether our elite netballers are so stupid or are just hypocrites pretending to care about the environment while taking money from the companies that build their mode of transport, stadiums, etc. I am leaning on the side of stupid because none of them could spell hypocrite and they didn’t know what a consequence was either. Until now!!!!.

Just that along the way I lost the pure blood and became a mongrel mob Heinz 57 Varieties. You know- Angle Jute Pict Scot Viking Roman Norman and a few others thrown in for good measure. Whilst it might be a bit of fun on the weekend to paint my face with Woad and dance around some rocks or play the old Knights of old Knights of bold come Monday morning it’s time to get up and get on with the business of modernity instead of living in the Hippy Dreamtime and that goes for the kids too.

I just love it when the wokesters get what they deserve. Gina is a legend. Without people like the Hancock’s and the resources industry in general, Australia would be stuffed. And listening to the hysterical David Pocock, the newly elected independent senator and former rugby player, bang on about it, makes he think he’s been in a few too many scrums for his own well being.

Oh – My – G – I just watched a minute of Australia and New Zealand “playing” netball. That is a game?

Rita is spot on and these woke sportspeople are really copping a serve from sports fans right across the spectrum as Gina’s response strikes a nerve big time-
