Opinion by Kip Hansen — 7 July 2022
Sometimes I have so many data inputs it can make my head spin – which is surprising as my tolerance is very high – I often have three or more streams ongoing at any one time – audio, visual and the written word. While driving today, I heard a segment on my local almost-always-wrong Public Radio station, which I have re-named for its one-sided political reporting — WDNC.
[ Note: I am not a fan of American-style two-party politics – which I consider to be what is wrong with this country’s political system. I do have strong social views and moral values. ]
My regional public radio station produces and hosts a ‘podcast’ (really, it is more of a two-minute regular radio feature) named EarthWise. The program is interesting and well-produced but unfortunately dedicated to producing segments that present misinformation about our natural world and that lean heavily on climate-alarmism talking points.
Like Columbia University’s Covering Climate Now, it seems EarthWise has signed on to the idea that “every story is a climate story” – even if they have to make it up.
Their latest program is Red Pandas and Climate Change. You can read the transcript or listen to the two-minute audio.
Red Pandas, you will learn, are not related at all to Giant Pandas (always oh-so-cute), but members of their own exclusive genus. If you wanted a recognizable analogy, you might think of a red racoon (though they are not closely related either).
The program is so short that quoting any major section of it would go beyond “fair-use” – it comprises less than 500 words including the title.
Here is how propaganda works:
1. EarthWise, having titled the episode “Red Pandas and Climate Change”, says:
“Habitat loss is the main threat to red panda’s survival. Human expansion into the area, combined with the effects of climate change, has led to the fragmentation and loss of livable land. Red pandas also face dangers from hunting and poaching.”
2. The program correctly reports that the IUCN lists the Red Panda as Endangered (checking the details reveals they couldn’t be sure so they admit “the evidence of precise decline rate being inadequate for certain discrimination between Vulnerable and Endangered, the precautionary course is taken of categorisation as Endangered, pending more precise information.”)
3. The program is based on a study last year, Bista et al. (2021) published in the journal Landscape Ecology titled: Effect of disturbances and habitat fragmentation on an arboreal habitat specialist mammal using GPS telemetry: a case of the red panda. The study concludes:
“Conclusions: Red pandas seem to make a trade-off to co-exist in human-dominated landscapes which may have adverse long-term effects on their survival. This indicates that current patterns of habitat fragmentation and forest exploitation may be adversely affecting red panda conservation efforts and that landscape-scale effects should be considered when planning conservation actions.”
Note: The study does not mention climate change, not even once.
4. The IUCN (again, here – see “Assessment Information in detail”) reports the greatest causes of decline in population to be 1) Diet limited to bamboo, 2) Threat from canine distemper (from domestic or feral dogs), 3) Conflicts with herders for specific habitat and 4) Hunting for trade. There is no mention of any current threat from climate change in the assessment details.
Bottom Line: This is a perfect example of how climate change propaganda works in today’s media:
1. EarthWise’s authors simply make up and add-in Climate Change as a cause of decline and threat to the endangered Red Pandas, unsupported by any of their referenced sources.
2. Because: The propagandists know that no one is going to check the details – no one will take the time to search out and read the Red Panda study – no one will read the assessment details at the IUCN Red List site. Certainly, no ‘journalist’ wishing to cover the story will do anything more than copy-and-paste reference citations and parrot the misinformation presented.
3. Untold numbers of people who listen to Pubic Radio and their children will be convinced that “Climate Change is killing the really cute Red Pandas!” – which is a lie.

Author’s Comment:
Why do EarthWise’s journalist make things up? Why do they spread this kind of obvious misinformation? I don’t know, I have submitted a comment asking them…I’ll check back below if they post my comment or reply.
As in many other cases, the Red Panda’s population numbers are best classified as “Unknown” – which does not deter the IUCN from listing them as Endangered (just in case they might be….).
Be careful what you believe when it comes from the mass media – their journalists have generally been corrupted by pernicious, often intentional, mis-education. If it is important to you, check the facts yourself (don’t bother checking opinions – they always differ). References to academic studies are no longer trustworthy – as we see in this case, you must check that the cited work yourself to see if it actually reports what is implied.

We need a new game of Six-degrees-of-Kevin-Bacon, now with climate.
Climate change is like sin was to Jerry Falwell, a general purpose thing to abhor and blame for everything bad.
Of course sin is bad. That’s why they call it “sin,” iinit?
So. Now we know who is reponsible, Sa-a-a-tinn !!!
Satinn And Lace?
I could reply, it’s “Leather & Lace”, but that would ruin your pun…
I used to be a regular listener to an NPR station out of UOP in the Seattle area and called it Clinton Reelection HQ. That was back when they though they were being subtle but fooling no one. Good jazz but the rest was junk. It’s even worse now and they don’t give a rip.
I should also mention it was Oregon Public Broadcasting playing an NPR interview near New Orleans that first got me interested in Climate Change back in about 2007. The interviewer was shouting at the interviewee standing on his patio in a Mississippi backwater. The water was up to his mid chest. They claimed the sea level had risen 3 or 4 feet caused by global warming. I was alarmed and wondered how I had missed such obvious change in our environment. So I did some checking and became a skeptic. Thanks NPR for opening my eyes.
“I was alarmed and wondered how I had missed such obvious change in our environment. So I did some checking and became a skeptic.”
Good story! 🙂
Another example of Leftists always pushing it too far.
I had to stop listening to NPR after I noticed I was spending a significant amount of time yelling at my radio and telling the other half of the story. The radio was never impressed and I gave NPR up to keep my sanity.
Similar experience here. Nice to know I’m not alone in shouting at the unfeeling radio.
Citizen Smith ==> With you on the good jazz…..
Yeah Public Radio in the 80-90’s was worth supporting with dollars for the Jazz, Prairie Home Companion, click and clack and many of the great local shows in the Richmond Virginia station… but even then, the NPR news hour was unbearable. Their application of music to their news segments was annoyingly evocative. Plain words please.
I do sorely miss Click and Clack! I have to thank NPR for interviewing John McCain, which allowed me to discover that he was a RINO who supported Prior Restraint gun control.
THEY see it everywhere, so therefore YOU peasants should be trained to be so perceptive and also see it everywhere. I wish they would give it a rest, but they never give up.
Yeah, a contagion of self righteous stupidity. Threat/fear based propaganda wrecks minds as it takes on a life of it’s own.
As evidenced by Communist societies it leads to widespread cynicism by the populace. While currently well-founded, mistrust in institutions and government is damaging to society. Constructively reforming them to be trustworthy will be hard.
12 seconds of NPR and blood runs from my ears. After 30 seconds I’ll need an ambulance. Even hearing someone say they listened to more than car talk gives me an upset stomach.
I’m with you, Jon.
I don’t know why anyone would voluntarily listen to propaganda. Unless you are Kip, who does it as his job. Kip studies the crap, so we don’t have to. 🙂
BBC Radio is even worse. It gives me an instant headache and the overwhelming desire to hurl the radio out of the window.
And, do you have to pay for that abuse?
Climate propaganda is no different from other propaganda. The intent is to manufacture a narrative and support it. Truth has nothing to do with it as ‘the end justifies the means’.
Kip,
I’ll be extremely interested to see if you get a response from the fabulist who authored that propaganda.
I’ll also be amazed should there be a response. People like Randy Simon do not take kindly to being caught lying.
John ==> So far, they have not yet approved and posted the comment, no less replied.
Kip,
As of 1746 GMT on 7 July, your comment has been posted on the webpage containing the “Red Pandas and Climate Change” transcript at EarthWise ( https://earthwiseradio.org/podcast/red-pandas-and-climate-change/ ).
“Why do EarthWise’s journalist make things up? Why do they spread this kind of obvious misinformation?”
They do because they can do it, and because propaganda works.
The Left has achieved effective information dominance, to use the military term. This gives them the ability to lie, with many hearing the lie and few hearing the debunking.
This level of institutional power has given them immense power, which they are beginning to use.
Beginning?
Dan Rather declared Gore the winner of Florida BEFORE any panhandle results were in. The MSM had spent over a month declaring that Bush could not win without Florida.
I lived in Las Vegas and am what Rush called a crawl through glass voter. I was driving home from work on my way to my polling station listening to a CBS radio channel and when I heard the Florida for Gore call, I ALMOST didn’t vote.
If you do some research you will see that Maria Cantwell won the senate seat from Washington State that year by a little over 2000 votes, probably due to vote suppression due to Dan Rather’s phony call of Florida.
Also note, you NEVER heard much about CBS’s phony call. A lot about FOX calling Florida for Bush “prematurely” all during the recount fiasco.
And the last presidential election was swung for Brandon by the MSM burying the laptop story.
My only question Larry is how young are you? If under 25, I can excuse the “beginning” comment. If older than that, you must not have been paying attention until recently.
BUT, welcome to reality, I hope you share truth with those you know who think CNN NBC CBS ABC MSNBC NPR PBS etc., at ANY time actually “reports” facts. when everything they report is slanted left and most of what they don’t report would benefit the right.
For years the media had been claiming that in 1980, the Republicans won a lot of extra seats because the media had called the election for Reagan before polls in those states had closed.
By their own logic, calling Florida before the polls had closed had to have suppressed Republican votes. Which is probably why they did it.
Bad history, Drake. I remember it well. Dan Rather based his statement on exit polls which were correct in the moment. When Fl sec of state also read those polls she passed info on to GOP pals who went into army barracks to get soldiers out to vote at last minute. They knew that only a few hundred votes could swing it to Bush and they knew the “military” vote was reliably Republican even if soldiers didn’t care much about voting. Even with that tricky maneuvering and with Republicans in charge of the state’s voting machinery, there was a good chance that Gore would pull ahead in the recount. It was just that close. A Republican majority on the Supreme Court fixed that, adding that this decision was a one-off, not a precedent.
BTW, Gore was a real jerk so maybe he didn’t care so much because “earth was in the balance,” and he has made billions on that premise ever since. I want to vomit every time he opens his mouth!
The Fourth Estate has become a Fifth Column.
Thanks to Kip Hansen for showing how climate propaganda is working.
I notice that alarmists frequently skip logical steps – or take illogical leaps.
If I were their teacher, I would give them an F (Fail) symbol for each of these.
Those who do not believe climate change means armageddon
are meticulous and nuanced in their reasoning.
“This idea of intellectual debate and rigor as the pinnacle of intellectualism comes from a world in which white men dominated” (Prof. Phoebe Cohen).
I guess in the New Woke Order they who shout loudest must be the most correct and the smartest.
Sounds like Nazi Germany and other fascist states. What’s old is new again.
Yeah, the Chinese and the Indians would never indulge in intellectual debate and consider it the pinnacle of intellectualism. Only white people do that. (Phoebe is sillly and sadly misinformed).
Translation: I’m not smart enough to ‘debate’ therefore it must be ‘bad.’
Is it possible to be more patronising towards non-White people than this?
And yet, they will go on and on about how only conservatives and whites are racist.
This is also the crew that constantly proclaims that the only way women and minorities are ever going to succeed is if government paves the way for them first.
In other words, they don’t believe they could do it on their own. What greater insult than to imply they don’t have the “Right Stuff.”
Multiply this approach by the thousands on daily print articles, audio and video newscasts and you will just begin to understand the effect of Joseph Goebbels – the Master of Modern Propaganda.
The great reality altering ship Propaganda is helmed by the WEF and Soros.
Get ready for a bumpy ride.
Who are WEF deep pockets?
When the tanks appear in the background of the presser you have proof of government lies. All I need to see now is a White House spokesperson.
Presenting blatant lies as unquestionable truth is the norm for “journalist’s” now days. That is how they get people to believe nonsense so easily. People who don’t ask “is this true”?” the first time they hear something have no hope of escaping the brainwashing. They repeat the lies incessantly to the point people can’t believe it couldn’t be true.
The sad part is that it is almost impossible to get people deprogrammed once the closed loop of perception is formed. The rationalizations become too entrenched. People have a hard time admitting they were duped because that implies they are fools.
I suspect that any reference to “climate change” being an issue in any report of any real or imagined problem is as good as a warning label:
“climate change” almost always having an ideological rather than factual meaning.
Notice also that NPR (and others) merely mention “climate change” without being specific, like hotter, colder, wetter, drier, etc. I guess we are supposed to assume warmer, and that the red panda habitat is warming twice as fast as everywhere else, of course. But come on, 1.5 deg C in 100+ years surely is within normal variation and easily survivable.
It appears that everywhere is warming twice as fast as everywhere else. That is if you believe most news outlets.
Slightly out of date. According to the Guardian in several reports this year the Arctic is warming three times faster than anywhere else.
Again applying middle school math to the Chicken Little triple meme…..if the average increase has been 1 degree, with zero increase up to latitude +/- 41.81, then +/- 41.81 to 90 must increase by 3 degrees to have a 1 degree average increase…..
The tropics haven’t warmed much, and half the area of the globe is in the +/-30 to 90 degree latitude range….so just applying simple arithmetic means that the +/- 30-90 latitudes must warm twice as much as average if the +/- 0-30 hasn’t warmed at all. Just middle school math….
Yes, the term “climate change” is utterly meaningless, yet news outlets use it with abandon. It came into circulation in the early part of this century when “global warming”, the scare term of environmental reporting of the time, didn’t happen for several years. Nevertheless, “global warming”is still the scare idea behind “climate change.” Underneath all that is the hobb goblin of Malthusian human disaster. Remember Paul Ehrlich? Ludicrous predictions of imminent disaster. It didn’t happen. Remember the Club of Rome? Oh, of course they must be right and the more foreboding their tells of human-caused disaster ahead, the more credibility they got. When they not only proved wrong but laughably wrong, it was somehow not “news” anymore.
Kip, I wrote about a similar false ‘climate’ alarm as part of essay ‘No Bodies’ in ebook Blowing Smoke. The supposed climate victim is the red wolf rather than the red panda. The sole remaining wild refuge for the red wolf is Alligator River Wildlife Refuge on Albemarle Sound in North Carolina. And AGW caused sea level rise will for sure wipe it and them out, according to Defenders of Wildlife and many other like minded NGOs.
Nothing about this tale of climate woe is correct—even before the sea level rise nonsense.
The red wolf is actually a fertile coyote/eastern ‘black’ wolf hybrid—a “coywolf”. Once common in the eastern half of the US but hunted almost to extinction because a major farm problem (predation on newborn calves, small pigs, and poultry). In the 1960’s the US Fish and Wildlife Service captured all the remaining wild ‘red wolves’ they could find in Texas and moved them to a breeding farm. The ‘too coyote’ were culled, and the remaining ‘wolfies’ were bred. In 1987 4 of the resulting breeding pairs were released at the Alligator River Wildlife Refuge, where they now number about 100. It was chosen precisely because it harbors no coyotes, with which they would otherwise interbreed and thus lose again their USFWS selected wolfiness.
A side ‘technical’ note, since my Wisconsin dairy farm hosts many coyotes and the occasional south wandering winter grey wolf from the northern Wisconsin national forests. Easy to tell the difference at night with a good moon in winter. Coyotes yap, wolves howl. Coyotes are solitary hunters, and go after things like field mice year round and young not yet flying wild turkey pullets in spring. Wolves hunt in packs for big game like deer, elk, and moose. Red wolves are behaviorally hybrid just like their genetics They hunt mostly solitary or in (breeding) pairs, but never packs. They go after intermediate size game like newborns calves or mature poultry. I imagine in Albemarle Sound they are preying on rabbits, raccoons, spring fawns, and such. Going from 8 to ~100 means they are finding sufficient dinner prey.
“Why do EarthWise’s journalist make things up? ”
Because they always wanted to write fiction.
And get paid more, if they write “interesting stories”.
Being just factual gets them fired.
“Why do EarthWise’s journalist make things up?”, asks the author. The answer is not straightforward, but to put it as crudely as possible: they are victims of a great lie themselves. Controlled by the fearful but false narrative of climate crisis, they spread their negative faith to others, thinking that this is the virtuous thing to do. Lying serves a noble cause. Those who truly believe in the lie make the best lies; their fears corrupts their reason. For anyone wanting more on how fear creates climate crisis and ruins science and rational debate, I bang on about it in more detail in this piece from about 2 years ago.

“[ Note: I am not a fan of American-style two-party politics – which I consider to be what is wrong with this country’s political system. I do have strong social views and moral values. ]”
I’m not a fan of party politics at all, whether the artificially limited American one, Canada with a handful of parties, and various other countries with ridiculous amounts.
Hats off to the relatively new territory of Nunavut – they have tapped their Inuit wisdom and have banned party politics. I’ll wager they’ll end up being the best run jurisdiction in the world before too much longer.
“Note: I am not a fan of American-style two-party politics – which I consider to be what is wrong with this country’s political system.”
The problem isn’t the two-party system. The problem is the Media is controlled by radical Leftists who distort reality to the point that people cannot govern themselves properly because they are living in a false reality created by the radical Leftwing Media.
The People cannot govern themselves properly when they are constantly lied to by the Leftwing Media. This applies to every democracy, no matter how many parties are involved.
If you have a first past the post voting system, then you will end up with two dominant parties. Whether they are officially recognized or not.
The founding fathers railed against parties, yet parties had formed within a few years of this country’s founding.
Many state and local elections are officially non-partisan, yet everyone knows which party each candidate belongs to.
Who among the Inuit decide what is party politics to be banned? The ruling “group?”
Tribes are, in the final analysis, ruled by a single family.
I follow a trusted source who reviews various “expert” and “peer reviewed” publications and assures me that at least half of them are faked for money.
What are the others faked for?
future sucess as a contributing “in” member of the herd…
Don’t just follow the expert. You must, from time to time, verify it for yourself.
Quite a few “experts” have become corrupted when the temptations get too high.
Then there is a 50% chance your “trusted source” fakes his reviews.
The whole CAGW propaganda thing is infectious. It’s not just the newsies, everyday people are inserting climate change talking points into conversations related to weather patterns. And I think that makes the propaganda rather a kneejerk reutterance and, on that point, successful.
The problem is that the general public is not going to Read More – Read Widely – Read Critically.
And who pays for NPR? The next Congress will have the power to impose standards and penalties for failure to comply. Or to simply defund.
Marty ==> NPR doesn’t depend that much on Federal support.
but they sure do squeal when there is talk of losing that trifle of support….
DonM ==> They squeal and thumb their noses at the same time.
Marty ==> Not only “not going to” — they just plain don’t.
Climate change causes everything bad,
from cancer to warts. Scientists say.
The first step to avoiding climate propaganda is
avoiding the New York Times and NPR, especially
any story that starts with “Scientists say”.
The second step is to realize that up to
half of what you read and hear is wrong.
Your job is to determine which half.
Right away, you can eliminate predictions
of the future, since they are almost always wrong.
Then eliminate all leftist sources of information.
Finally, think if your own experiences
— they might contradict what you read.
For example:
I have 47 years of experience with
actual global warming, since 1975.
45 of those years here in Michigan and
35 years in the same home.
I’ve observed climate change, so I don’t need
others telling me what happened.
Winters are warmer here than in the 1970s and this winter
had the least snow, by far, since I moved here from
New York in 1977. We LOVE global warming in Michigan
and want a lot more warming. This year has not been
warm enough. Climate change caused that too.
The epiphany occurs when you read a story that you, personally know about, in detail, and when you compare what you really know to what is reported. At best, the journalist might leave out a few things, but almost always they are trying to develop an edge, a narrative, to make some sort of point that is not relavant to the event. When you realize that the reporting is so wrong about stuff you, personally know, you wonder how much of anything else is reported properly. Maybe which team won the game last night, or the closing price of a particuar stock. But everything else is suspect.
To be specific:
Most climate propaganda is always wrong wild guesses of a coming climate crisis — wrong predictions that began more than 50 years ago
A more recent element is blaming all bad weather events on climate change and ignoring all good weather.
This is a leftist “scare the people scam” with the goal of getting people to demand that their government “do something” to stop the coming (imaginary) climate crisis. “Do something” are words that leftists love to hear.
Since leftists are involved, there is deception, censorship and lying.
That’s what leftists do. For every subject.
Don’t just do something, stand there!
> Why do EarthWise’s journalist make things up? Why do they spread this kind of obvious misinformation? I don’t know, I have submitted a comment asking them…I’ll check back below if they post my comment or reply.
NPR gets additional funding for reporting on climate issues. It is that simple.
“NPR gets additional funding for reporting on climate issues. It is that simple.”
Paid climate change propagadists.
They are religious sermons. In them, they describe something, and some of the practical causes of them, but also never forget to include “Climate Chang/Emergency” (the equivalent of sin in their quasi religion) as a cause of whatever problem is occurring, even if the other evidence more than accounts for it, or if the problem is inconsistent with the physical effects that would be born out by “Climate Change”.
There is always a way to absolve oneself of this sin though. In the Climate Change religion though, it is not through prayer, but through sacrifice (both personal sacrifice and the forced sacrifice of others) and through indulgences that can be purchased by donating to certain causes.
I stopped listening to NPR back in the early 1980s.
Back when I was a freak in the late 1960s, I stopped listening to NPR newscasts. It just wasn’t worthwhile separating chaff from lie from the occasional fragment of truth.
It occurs to me that a phrase very valid for me will be valid for you.
“An idle mind is the devils playground, and the Lord knows, (along with everybody else) that my mind shouldn’t be left idle.”
Even though my wife understands my penchant for different simultaneous inputs, it still drives her to distraction.
Which is why I get assigned typical man haunts in the house; i.e., basement, garage, office, outside.
The problem with NPR news, is that either you already ‘know’ everything, or can easily find and verify the real facts or you will believe things NPR states that you do not already know or don’t verify.
I tried for the longest time to ignore NPR nonsense, just so I could listen to what are generally the best classical, best bluegrass, best Blues, best Jazz programs.
Except, too many NPR DJs had to go open their mouths and fill the space between musical interludes with whatever nonsense they felt like bleating.
Having my soul soothed for 10-20 minutes wasn’t worth the emotional rollercoaster after listening to an empty head blame everything but themselves for the world’s alleged ruin.
ATheoK ==> ah, but the Marion McPartland jazz show? ……absolutely great. We have one here on staurdays, Radio Deluxe, jazzy show tunes.
The Bill Evans recording with Marian McPartland was sublime. And so were most of her broadcasts through the 1990’s when many of the greats were still alive. The show with Shirley Horn was spectacular, Ms. Horn was a regular at the One Step Down in D.C.
jeff ==. Gads, she and her guests were always great — some greater than others.

The flooding in Yellowstone reveals forecast flaws as climate warms
(Headline for AP story appearing on NPR’s website)
https://www.npr.org/2022/07/07/1110219977/yellowstone-flooding-reveals-forecast-flaws
The Associated Press has publicly admitted accepting bribes in exchange for producing climate propaganda (see: https://apnews.com/article/science-business-arts-and-entertainment-journalism-united-states-087d1d5dd7189c529fe5d7a21a1ffb5f ).
If NPR was honest about its climate reporting (hint: it’s not), every report from the AP would carry a disclaimer acknowledging that Associated Press reports involving climate are the product of tainted and unreliable reporting.
Indeed!! Always check the cited work to verify the claims. e.g. Mann, Bradley & Hughes ’99.
‘ere, ‘ang on! Doh!!
If you want to read climate propaganda, then go to this site for a stomach turning dose of it. I recently submitted this to the site and obviously it did not fit in with their agenda; so it was not published.
Unforced Variations: July 2022 https://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2022/07/unforced-variations-july-2022/
This round of, Unforced Variations: July 2022, seems to be getting off to a very slow start, for whatever reason. I offer up this observation regarding carbon dioxide and I do not expect that the powers that be, that censors the comments on ‘RealClimate’, will ever allow it to appear because it asks too many valid questions about the trace gas, CO₂, that is a devil in the sky for all climate alarmist.
Why would the world want to zero out their emissions of CO₂? There has never been any empirical evidence submitted anywhere, by any scientific organization, that CO₂ is anything other than a trace gas that is essential for all terrestrial life on the planet. Don’t these foaming at the mouth climate extremist that say that carbon dioxide emissions MUST be eliminated, realize that if the amount of CO₂ in the Earth’s atmosphere drops to 150 ppm, then plant growth stops and animals die and those are the facts surrounding carbon dioxide.
I see no empirical evidence is presented by any one, or their scientific organizations, that in any way demonstrates that CO₂ has anything to do with the Earth’s climate or its temperature. The reason for that is that the trace gas, CO₂, that all animals exhales with each and every one of their breaths, HAS never in the past 4.5 billion year long history of the Earth’s existence had anything to do with its complex climate & it would take a total idiot to now believe, with no proof, that at .04% of the Earth’s atmosphere today, that it can determine what the climate, or the temperature, on Earth will be like in the future. These poor fools who stupidly allege that CO₂ is causing the Earth’s temperature to rise cannot give any reason why this record is still valid after over 108 years and has not been exceeded even though their hated CO₂ levels have gone up. We went to Death Valley to see where this all-time record was set and it is a National Park to high light the importance of the occasion that happened 108 years ago. [As of July 10, it will be 109 years that the record has held]
World Meteorological Organization Assessment of the Purported World Record 58°C Temperature Extreme at El Azizia, Libya (13 September 1922)
“On 13 September 1922, a temperature of 58°C (136.4°F) was purportedly recorded at El Azizia (approximately 40 kilometers south-southwest of Tripoli) in what is now modern-day Libya…………. The WMO assessment is that the highest recorded surface temperature of 56.7°C (134°F) was measured on 10 July 1913 at Greenland Ranch (Death Valley) CA USA.”

Can you eat a red panda?
The red panda, which is not directly related to the giant panda, has also largely avoided human gastronomic interest. * There are growing reports, however, of Chinese restaurants keeping live, caged red pandas and offering their meat to guests.Oct 15, 2012
https://slate.com/technology/2012/10/prehistoric-humans-ate-panda-what-do-panda-bears-taste-like.html
According to a friend of mine Timothy Mang, a local pastor from the the Northern Hills of Myanmar in the mid-1990’s…. wild cats that were once common are not so common anymore. Why? The local villagers ate them all and used the fur. They loved to eat cat. And the reason the region around the village experienced deforestation? So the villagers could stay warm. They also had no electricity, no cars, no paved roads. They also had no industry and no money. They had not access to natural gas, coal or oil and their hunting and wood gathering range from the village was limited due to the steep hills and dense forest. It was 60 day walk to the airport in Rangoon. They did not have a cash crop…so they starting growing grapes and apples. Now they have electricity, some roads, access to propane. The forest grew back and a limited number of cats returned to the area. .If red pandas had existed in the region of their village they would have eaten then as well and sold them to the Chinese if they could get them to market. So it goes!
This is what us peasants do, we cluster on hillsides, hunt, cook and eat the local critters, cut down trees for huts and fuel. After a while the village grows and deeper and deeper in the woods we go to forage a life until there is some sort of equilibrium. Everything is fine until some some holy man from another village comes and says you can’t cut the trees, or kill the critters.
The pandemic of lies is far worse than the CHIIINAA virus.
Once you adopt first past the post voting, a two party system becomes inevitable.
“[ Note: I am not a fan of American-style two-party politics – which I consider to be what is wrong with this country’s political system. I do have strong social views and moral values. ]”
The biggest problem with two-party politics is that democrats are always democrats (lately certifiably insane Marxists) while republicans could be democrats with republican shade. We are stuck with choosing between two sides of the same coin.
Wise words that should be part of the education of every child and adult. Perhaps critical thinking could take up the time in schools wasted on socialist propaganda.

When anyone asks if I heard something on NPR, I say I only listen to radio when in my auto and the radio therein does not tune into an NPR station.
My years ago, on a Public TV station asking for donations, I watched ” Roy Orbison and Friends: A Black and White Night”. An excellent show.
Another small red animal, although not always red, is the Cascade Red Fox. The current Smithsonian Magazine (July/Aug 2022) has a short note. This site —
Cascade red fox | Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife
