Guardian: Media “Barely Reporting” UN Climate Catastrophe Warnings

Essay by Eric Worrall

Climate warnings appear to have finally jumped the shark even with liberal media audiences, with reporters focusing on issues people care about, like the economy and Russia’s war with Ukraine.

Dire warning on climate change ‘is being ignored’ amid war and economic turmoil

The third segment of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report is being overshadowed, just like the previous one

Scientists fear that their last-ditch climate warnings are going unheeded amid international turmoil caused by the war in Ukraine, and soaring energy prices.

But the previous instalment of the vast report – known as working group 2 of the IPCC – was published a month ago, just as Russia invaded Ukraine, and received only muted attention, despite warning of catastrophic and irreversible upheavals that can only narrowly be avoided by urgent action now. Scientists told the Observer that Monday’s fresh scientific warning must spur governments to belated action.Advertisementhttps://43324aa3403c63d52032174b2f6f751f.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-38/html/container.html

Deborah Brosnan, adjunct professor of biology at Virginia Tech University in the US and a scientific consultant, told the Observer: “That [working group 2] report was widely anticipated, but completely ignored. Eclipsed mostly by the war in Ukraine, and domestic issues such as inflation, most major media have barely reported let alone analysed the findings.”

She said people were shocked by the Ukraine war, and concerned about soaring prices, but that the climate crisis also needed urgent attention. “The war in Ukraine is a terrible tragedy playing out before our eyes, and families rightly fear being pushed into poverty by inflation. Yet we seem blind to the fact that an even larger and existential crisis is already unfolding today – one that will result in a global humanitarian crisis and on a scale never seen before.”

Poor climate alarmists. They thought they had everything neatly worked out, a carefully planned campaign of interlocking claims, carefully orchestrated to try to ratchet up the alarm and shake the public out of their entirely justified climate apathy. Then a real problem arose and messed up their entire campaign.

Note how it took war atrocities to get the EU to this level of sanctions on Russia……

Russia is not having a war with Ukraine. It is conducting a war against Ukraine. Russia’s offensive operations were unprovoked, and without basis in law. Their basic strategy seems to be to terrorize civilians and slaughter innocents.

From the above article:

“Scientists fear that their last-ditch climate warnings are going unheeded . . .”

My simple request of those alarmist climate “scientists”: Can you please, please, please promise me that this indeed will be your last-ditch warning.

Thank you!

This is like the Titanic Deck Chair Management Committee complaining that their new Deck Chair strategy document is being ignored just because the ship nudged an iceberg.

1988 Hansen: ‘if the world continues business as usual, temps will rise by 1.5 degrees by 2022 and accelerate from there! CATASTROPHE!

2022 NASA: “wow Hansen was really close to the actual temperature rise of .5 degrees, thus proving we were right! hooray for science! oh and btw CATASTROPHE!”

Nowhere close to half a degree since that year:

And 1988 was about the same as the late 1970s, which was known to be the low ebb of a 30 year decline in global temperatures.

Back in 1988, although people like Hanson were initiating what would morph into the current pack of utter lies, there were also plenty of people around still committed to being honest reporters of what was known to be true:

Russia needs to be pushed toward sovereign debt default on foreign backed currency (first since 1918) and we don’t need London or Brussels getting in the way of that.

Well duh – that’s already taking place. USA has frozen Russia’s assets in American banks, halting most transfers and making those US banks that are administering Russian assets apply for exemptions on a case-by-case basis. It’s forcing Russia to either pay the debt or default but support it’s war effort with foreign assets. The screaming will start when Russia does the same to the rather larger US assets in Russian banks.

Maybe the Guardian would like to report things like this and why people don’t believe a word they say.

In a speech, the UN chief accused some governments and businesses of “lying” and said it was the countries that are increasing production of fossil fuels, not climate activists, that are “truly dangerous radicals.”

“We are on a fast track to climate disaster; major cities under water, unprecedented heat waves, terrifying storms, widespread water shortages, the extinction of a million species of plants and animals,” he said Monday. “This is not fiction or exaggeration, it is what science tells us will result from our current energy policies.”

Who does this remind us of, accusing people of the very things they are actually doing?

1) fast track to climate disaster; severe weather does not equal climate disaster, no evidence = fail
2) major cities under water; 3mm per year at max, zero evidence = fail
3) unprecedented heat waves; heatwaves have been worse in the past, no change = fail
4) terrifying storms; nothing that hasn’t occurred before and using severe weather = fail
5) widespread water shortages; more a increased human consumption and storage problem = fail
6) the extinction of a million species of plants and animals; more a problem losing habitats to humans changing the environment for development, no evidence on this scale = fail

40+ years on and none of these have occurred or look like happening any time soon.

“This is not fiction or exaggeration”

Yes it is 100%.

“it is what science tells us will result from our current energy policies.”

No it doesn’t, there isn’t enough fossil fuels on the planet to burn the worse case scenario that this relies on from a model, NOT observations.

We know who is lying.

It seems not to matter who is lying.
The fact that he can say these things and have it published, rather than being drowned out by the laughter of everyone within earshot, is proof enough of that.
It seems to unfortunately be the case that scary lies will convince many more people than the rational truth, plainly spoken, can disabuse of those lies.
And it is now obvious that for a large percentage of people, innate intelligence and even higher education do nothing to innoculate one from this virulent form of contagion.

Agreed as it is given a free pass and not even questioned leading to propaganda continuing. The truth and lies still need to made known for the good of science.

Media love a scary story even when it is false.

People do try and go against it, but the most common responce has been labelled the D-word. Worse, some have been sacked and this has prevented science debates or sometimes just been plain ignored.

It has not been about science for a long time.

They’ve been flogging it to death, here in Ireland. Getting lots of coverage and they’re not finished yet. A special treat/threat scheduled for This Thursday, to scare the kids good and proper.
