Guest “Do they really think we’re that stupid?” by David Middleton
This is the second sequel to Democrat Senators Demand That Oil Companies Increase Production. The first sequel dealt with Jen “Circle Back” Psaki’s blatantly false claim that “There are 9,000 approved oil leases that the oil companies are not tapping into currently”. Now, Brandon, himself has tossed in another lie…
U.S. producers “have 9,000 permits to drill now — they can be drilling right now, yesterday last week, last year,” President Joe Biden said Tuesday. “They have 9,000 to drill onshore that are already approved. So let me be clear, let me be clear: they are not using them for production now.” The comments came a day after the American Petroleum Institute, the biggest U.S. oil lobby group, accused the administration of “misusing facts” when it comes to federal leasing data.

Do they not know the difference between a lease and a permit? Or do they just toss these words and numbers out, assuming no one will bother to check them out?
A mineral lease is the exclusive rights to the mineral resources under a tract of land or seafloor.
In exchange for predetermined compensation, this is a specific type of lease arrangement between an entity and a property owner. It grants the entity the rights to explore to determine if minerals are present and, also, to extract minerals, like iron, copper, oil, or even natural gas, from the leased property.
Mineral Lease, Law Dictionary
Federal mineral leases are awarded to the high bidders in competitive lease sales. Federal leases generally have 5 to 10 year primary terms. Leaseholders may then apply for permits to drill wells.
Once a leaseholder, operator, or designated agent identifies an oil and gas deposit on a Federal lease, they can file an application for permit to drill (APD). The BLM posts these APDs on its 30 Day Federal Public Posting Report Page. The BLM governs the APD process under Onshore Order #1 and its 2017 amendment, which is codified under 43 CFR §3160.
[…]
An approved APD is valid for two years or until the lease expires, whichever occurs first, but the BLM may grant a two-year extension to allow the operator more time to drill.

Biden Reaffirms Call For Banning Oil And Natural Gas Production On Public Lands
BY STAFF MARCH 17, 2020Democratic presidential frontrunner Joe Biden once again said he would ban the production of oil and natural gas on public lands if elected during a debate in Washington, D.C. on Sunday night.
While Biden has been criticized by environmental activist groups for not having a bold enough plan on energy and climate, prohibiting production on federal lands has been a constant in his policy platform. His campaign website calls for “banning new oil and gas permitting on public lands and waters.”
[…]
In the debate, Biden listed of a number of proposals aimed at the oil and natural gas industry.
“Number one, no more subsidies for the fossil fuel industry, no more drilling on federal lands, no more drilling, including offshore, no ability for the oil industry to continue to drill, period, ends, number one,” Biden said.

In their typical Orwellian fashion, the phrase “banning new oil and gas permitting on public lands and waters” no longer appears on the campaign website.
Since, Brandon seemed serious about “banning new oil and gas permitting on public lands and waters”, oil companies with large lease positions on Federal lands in places like New Mexico and Wyoming began stockpiling drilling permits to ensure that they had sufficient inventory to continue drilling through at least the next 4 years.
Oil and Gas Companies File for Drilling Permits Ahead of Biden Inauguration
BY IER
JANUARY 19, 2021President-elect Joe Biden’s plan to cease new drilling on federal lands has made oil and gas companies file for permits in the dwindling days of the Trump Administration, mostly in New Mexico and Wyoming, where much of the drilling on federal lands takes place. The applications accelerated during the fall before the election peaked in November, aided by speedier permitting approvals since President Trump took office. President-Elect Biden wants to end new drilling on those lands as part of his transition to renewable energy, with the goal of making the nation carbon neutral by 2050 and the generating sector carbon neutral by 2035, a full 10 years prior to California’s target, which is already causing supply problems in the state.
Despite oil producers slashing budgets, major companies have been acquiring enough permits to keep pumping through Biden’s upcoming term realizing that the nation will still need oil and gas for many years into the future. Under President Trump, crude production from federal and tribal lands and waters increased sharply, topping a billion barrels in 2019, which was almost a third higher than the last year of the Obama Administration.
Companies submitted more than 3,000 drilling permit applications in a three-month period that included the election. Department of Interior officials approved almost 1,400 drilling applications, which is the highest number of approvals for that amount of time during Trump’s four-year term. The government approved about 500 new drilling permits in September alone, more than double the same month in 2019. In 2020, the Trump administration issued over 4,700 drilling permits, which is comparable to approval numbers from early last decade when oil peaked over $100 a barrel, about twice the current price.
Processing times for completed applications to the Bureau of Land Management dropped from almost 140 days on average in the last year of Obama’s administration to 44 days in fiscal year 2019, which is still much slower than many state permitting processes. In 2020, some companies had permits awarded in a little over a month; other permits took longer but an average time is not yet available.

Oil companies lock in drilling, challenging Biden on climate
By MATTHEW BROWN and CATHY BUSSEWITZ
January 10, 2021BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — In the closing months of the Trump administration, energy companies stockpiled enough drilling permits for western public lands to keep pumping oil for years and undercut President-elect Joe Biden’s plans to curb new drilling because of climate change, according to public records and industry analysts.
An Associated Press analysis of government data shows the permit stockpiling has centered on oil-rich federal lands in New Mexico and Wyoming. It accelerated during the fall as Biden was cementing his lead over President Donald Trump and peaked in December, aided by speedier permitting approvals since Trump took office.
The goal for companies is to lock in drilling rights on oil and gas leases on vast public lands where they make royalty payments on any resources extracted. Biden wants to end new drilling on those same lands as part of his overhaul of how Americans get energy, with the goal of making the nation carbon neutral by 2050.
[…]
INVITATION TO DRILL
Making it easier to drill was a centerpiece of Trump’s effort to boost American energy production in part by enticing companies onto lands and offshore areas run by the U.S. departments of Interior and Agriculture.
Under Trump, crude production from federal and tribal lands and waters increased sharply, topping a billion barrels in 2019. That was up by almost a third from the last year of the Obama administration.

YEARS WORTH OF PERMITS
To undo the late-term awarding of so many permits, a former senior Interior Department official said the Biden administration could be forced to pay millions of dollars to companies to get them to relinquish drilling rights. Such a scenario played out in pristine areas of Montana where officials spent decades trying to buy out companies with drilling leases near Glacier National Park.
[…]
Houston-based EOG Resources amassed the most permits this year — 1,024 — including 549 since September, according to AP’s analysis.
In total, EOG has about 2,500 federal permits approved or in progress. “If he (Biden) tries to impose some regulations on how new federal permits are issued, we certainly already have an inventory, a large inventory, of existing federal permits that will sustain activity for several years,” company CEO Lloyd Helms told a November investors conference.
Oklahoma-based Devon Energy collected the second-highest number this year. As the presidential campaign wore on this summer, Devon executives assured investors that the company was amassing permits. By October, Vice President David Harris said the company had enough “federal drilling permits in hand that essentially cover all of our desired activity over the next presidential term.”

These companies stockpiled four years worth of drilling permits. They may “have 9,000 permits.” However, they’re not “to drill now.” They applied for sufficient permits to maintain their drilling programs from 2021 through 2024… Because Brandon promised to shut down permitting.

Biden halts oil and gas leases, permits on US land and water
By MATTHEW BROWN
January 21, 2021BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — The Biden administration announced Thursday a 60-day suspension of new oil and gas leasing and drilling permits for U.S. lands and waters, as officials moved quickly to reverse Trump administration policies on energy and the environment.
The suspension, part of a broad review of programs at the Department of Interior, went into effect immediately under an order signed Wednesday by Acting Interior Secretary Scott de la Vega. It follows Democratic President Joe Biden’s campaign pledge to halt new drilling on federal lands and end the leasing of publicly owned energy reserves as part of his plan to address climate change.

AP
The concern was so great that we were advised to file Suspension of Operations (SOO) applications for all of our leases in the Gulf of Mexico.
In reality, they did not halt new permits. They stripped the BLM and BSEE regional offices of permit approval authority during that 60-day period. Permit approval authority was limited to political hacks, “a small number of senior Interior officials — the secretary, deputy secretary, solicitor and several assistant secretaries”. The fact that the permit approval process didn’t even significantly slow down, from our perspective, indicated that the political hacks were approving whatever the professional regulators in the BSEE regional offices recommended.
The denial of drilling permits on existing leases had been the only roadblock that this miserable excuse for a maladministration hasn’t thrown in front of the US oil & gas industry…
Biden administration freezes new oil and gas drilling leases after court rules against key climate tool
By Ella Nilsen, CNN
Mon February 21, 2022CNN —
The Biden administration has once again put a pause on new leases and permits for federal oil and gas drilling after a judge blocked the administration from using a metric that estimates the societal cost of carbon emissions.
Earlier this month, US District Judge James Cain of the Western District of Louisiana issued an injunction preventing the Biden administration from using what’s known as the “social cost of carbon” in decisions around oil and gas drilling on public land, or in rules governing fossil fuel emissions. The ruling has consequences for a range of Biden administration actions on climate change, but especially on the Interior Department’s federal oil and gas leasing program.
In an appeal filed by government attorneys on Saturday night, the Biden administration argued Cain’s injunction necessitated a pause on all projects where the government was using a social-cost-of-carbon analysis in its decision-making.
The appeal is the latest in a legal battle in the courts between several Republican-led states and the Biden administration over the social cost of carbon, a metric that uses economic models to put a value on each ton of carbon dioxide emitted. The idea is to quantify the economic harm caused by the climate crisis like sea level rise, more destructive hurricanes, extreme wildfire seasons and flooding.

Once again, it doesn’t appear that they are blocking permit approvals on existing Federal leases. It would be blatantly illegal for them to do so. However, Brandon has been waging war against the US oil & gas industry since day one…
Biden’s War on Affordable Energy | Opinion
BOBBY JINDAL , FORMER GOVERNOR, LOUISIANA
ON 2/28/22President Joe Biden‘s spokeswoman defends rising gasoline costs as the cost Americans must pay for standing up for our values. It is a neat trick to cite Russian sanctions for price increases that predate the sanctions. Democrats blame Russian strongman Vladimir Putin for Hillary Clinton‘s loss in 2016 and record-breaking inflation rates, but Hillary was a flawed candidate and Biden has long been waging war on affordable energy.
Biden’s first actions as president included re-entering the Paris Climate Accord, canceling the Keystone XL Pipeline, halting a leasing program in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), issuing a 60-day halt on new oil and gas leases and drilling permits on federal lands and waters (which account for nearly 25% of U.S. production), directing federal agencies to eliminate fossil fuel “subsidies,” imposing tougher regulations on oil and gas methane emissions (which were first promulgated under President Barack Obama and had been eased under President Donald Trump), and hiring SEC regulators to prepare climate and ESG disclosure mandates.
The Keystone pipeline’s cancelation denies America cheaper and environmentally safer access to Canadian oil for Gulf Coast refineries. Biden’s other policies will do even more damage, make America weaker and more dependent on foreign countries, and drive up energy prices. Even New Mexico’s Democratic governor criticized Biden’s suspension of oil and gas leases, asked for an exemption to protect her economy and education funding, and argued that shifting production elsewhere would increase carbon emissions.
Biden’s Interior Department has proposed policies to increase the cost of domestically produced energy. Secretary Debra Haaland has recommended that we hike the federal royalty rate for oil and gas drilling on federal lands, consider raising the bond payments companies must set aside for future cleanups, and focus leasing in areas close to existing oil and gas infrastructure. House Democrats would like to go even further and ban drilling in ANWR and along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.
Biden extended his 60-day moratorium on new oil and gas leases indefinitely, until the administration could complete a comprehensive review on “climate change impacts.” Republican attorneys general successfully sued the administration to resume oil and gas lease sales, generating $192 million in bids for drilling rights in the Gulf of Mexico. Though companies have stockpiled leases and drilling permits, anticipating a hostile Biden administration, such moves offer only temporary respite. Biden’s moves to limit drilling activity and increase the costs of that activity will especially harm the economies of states like New Mexico, Wyoming, North Dakota and Colorado.

Newsweek
If Brandon suddenly reversed his positions on the Keystone XL pipeline, ANWR and holding Federal lease sales, it wouldn’t suddenly cause the price of oil to drop. However, markets react to perceptions. Oil prices began to rise just after the November 2020 coup d’etat.
His war on fossil fuels has clearly contributed to that rise in oil prices.
- Brandon and Obama halted construction of the Keystone XL pipeline for 9 of the past 13 years.
- Brandon nullified ANWR leases awarded to oil companies at the end of the Trump administration.
- Brandon not disrupted oil & gas leasing on Federal lands & waters.
- Brandon has issued pledges and orders to halt permitting, while bragging about approving permits.
A year before Brandon idiotically cancelled the pipeline, TransCanada had already secured commitments from oil producers for 500,000 bbl/d for up to 20 years. This would have offset much of the crude oil we import from outside of North America.
While Brandon’s unlawful refusal to hold Gulf of Mexico lease sales, hasn’t significantly impacted US oil production yet, within a decade, it will likely lead to the US having to import an additional 1 million bbl/d of crude oil.
Would oil prices be lower today had Brandon not waged a war on the oil & gas industry? Probably… But there’s no way to know for sure.
Despite the efforts of Brandon and his ilk, US oil production will soon exceed pre-shamdemic production levels, largely due to the fact that most of our oil production comes from privately and state owned mineral leases.
That said, nothing short of Saudi Arabia dumping oil on the market like they did in early 2020, will cause oil prices to significantly decline.
Oil prices are rising fast. Saudi Arabia may not come to the rescue
By Julia Horowitz, CNN Business
Tue March 1, 2022London CNN Business —
A global hunt for spare barrels of crude is underway as sanctions slam Russia, the world’s second largest exporter, following its invasion of Ukraine.
But don’t expect Saudi Arabia to step in to fill the gap, at least for now.
What’s happening: The kingdom could help ease global oil prices, which have spiked to their highest level since 2014. Saudi Arabia has the capacity to raise production by 2 million barrels per day, according to Claudio Galimberti, senior vice president of analysis at Rystad Energy.
But Saudi Arabia’s government said Tuesday that it thinks the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries should stick to its plan of gradually increasing output. That means markets won’t get much relief as investors scramble to assess the impact of rising energy prices.

Oil Prices Tumble Double-Digits as UAE, Iraq Call for Higher OPEC Output
Commodities14 minutes ago (Mar 09, 2022 02:59PM ET)By Barani Krishnan
Investing.com — President Joe Biden is beginning to hear from the UAE and Iraq some of the “music” he wants on OPEC oil production.
But the offer of more barrels could also be conditional at some point and exact a political price that might scuttle world powers’ nuclear deal with Iran, jeopardizing the chance for even more output to cool a market at 14-year highs.
Crude prices were down double digits on Wednesday after the United Arab Emirates’ ambassador to Washington, Yousef Al Otaiba, said in a widely-circulated statement to the media that the number two energy producer in the Gulf “favors oil production increases.”
The UAE “will be encouraging OPEC to consider higher production levels,” Otaiba said, referring to the 13-member Saudi-led Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.

U.S. crude’s West Texas Intermediate, or WTI, benchmark settled down $15, or 13%, at $108.70. Like Brent, it was also WTI’s biggest one-day percentage slump since April 2020.
[…]
The UAE, like Saudi Arabia, is technically a U.S. ally that most recently received additional U.S. military defensive support to help them against Houthi threats from Yemen.
But the UAE has also been calling on the United States to re-designate the Iran-backed militia on the Foreign Terror Organization list, which the White House appears unwilling to do.
The demand that Tehran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp stays off Washington’s terror list is one of those put by Iranian negotiators to the nuclear talks with world powers. The talks that have dragged on for months are at their final stages and could pave the way for the legitimate return of Iranian oil to the global export market, without the U.S. sanctions they have faced since 2018.
It is not known if the Emiratis will insist on their demand for the redesignation of the IRGC as a terror group as a condition for adding meaningfully to their oil supplies.
Saudi Arabia, the de facto head of OPEC and OPEC+, has, meanwhile, remained uncooperative with the U.S. and other oil consuming countries throughout the Russia-Ukraine war.
Investing.com
On the hopes that the UAE initiative will lead to more output from OPEC, oil (WTI) “tumbled” all the way down to $108.70/bbl.
Volatile markets often exhibit wild swings in response to the news and current events. Most OPEC members were already struggling to increase their output. What happens to oil prices if UAE attaches an Iran poison pill? What happens if Saudi Arabia says no?
More breaking news!
There is no quick fix for oil prices. We need long-term solutions.

A Biden-Buttigieg Solution to the Energy Crisis?
By Duggan Flanakin
March 08, 2022When asked about reversing Biden Administration energy policies that have left the U.S. increasingly dependent upon Russian oil and gas, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg made it clear: “We … need to make sure we’re not galloping after permanent solutions to immediate short-term problems.”
Ah, “permanent solutions” for Biden-Buttigieg mean ending America’s “love affair” with fossil fuels. Meanwhile, Russia, China, and the rest of the world (even Germany and possibly the United Kingdom) are extracting and using increasing amounts of oil, gas, and coal. Now the “killer Bs” are working with the Russians to enable the U.S. once again to buy oil from Iran.

This may be beyond Secretary Pete’s comprehension level…
Access to affordable crude oil is not an “immediate short-term problem.” It’s way past time to be “galloping after permanent solutions”, or at least long term solutions. It’s a cold, hard fact that we will be dependent oil oil & gas for many decades to come. Every action this maladministration has taken over the past 14 months has undermined the long-term solutions that are actually under the purview of the US government.

When I lived in Phoenix in the ’90s it was difficult to find Russian salad dressing in the grocery stores. It is difficult to find here in Ohio too.
Start a campaign to have it renamed ‘Ukraine sauce’ instead – it’ll sell by the case!

The sad part is, they apparently think we can’t. They also forget that the internet never forgets. Biden did what he promised, and is now panicked over the inevitable results. And his admin and allies (specifically Mayor Pete and Markey) double down saying high gas prices are a good thing, cause accelerate the GND. They really think that is going to win them the midterms? Or that we believe them when they say it is all Putin’s fault not Biden’s.

The sad part of this disaster is we Americans and Canadians and Mexicans could revert to the 1860 energy situtation – no electricity, no gasoline powered vehicles, no diesel tractors/harvesters/reapers. Air conditioners? What are they? and the beat goes on.

I say BS. Trump was the first incumbent POTUS to lose when he gained millions more votes in his second election.
You, sir, are living in a fact-free world.
No, A–hole, you are.
A lot of people here apparently believe in the myth of a stolen election. This, in spite of the fact that there is not one scintilla of actual evidence of significant fraudulent voting. No Republican elected official anywhere has come forward to support this theory. High Republican officials such as AG Barr have dismissed it completely. All you have is some vague anecdotal evidence and statistical anomalies. You have nothing. Where is the evidence???
you said, “No Republican elected official anywhere has come forward to support this theory. High Republican officials such as AG Barr have dismissed it completely.”
are you seriously using this to bring credibility to your legitimate election claim?
I am not making a claim of a legitimate election. I am asking for people who claim that it isn’t to bring evidence.
You do realize that Wisconsin is a state?
Yes, I do know it is a state. What do you know? Wisconsin elections officials debunk fraud claims at Capitol hearing | Wisconsin Public Radio (wpr.org)
It’s hard to find something, when you refuse to look.
One would think that the people who are claiming the election was stolen would be happy to bring forth something that might stand up in court.
T1:
In short, there is tons of evidence, of multiple types.
There are two things that we do not have.
There is a lot of evidence of the type of #1, but they are people farther down the food chain.
There have been cases where people got charged with running an election the wrong way. Very few; these types of issues usually get racked up as someone failing to do their job the right way, and they get reprimanded or fired.
The person in
Harris County Texas is an example. She just resigned rather than be fired for “incompetence” in their fairly new voting / ballot system.
In that case, they had the same things happen as in the voter fraud of 2020. Ballots get declared “damaged,” and so some “volunteers” have to go through and “adjudicate,” have to discern who the voter INTENDED to vote for.
Also, this elections manager “found” 10,000 ballots AFTER counting was supposed to be done. There was a 24 hour time limit on getting the count finished because everyone knows how some fraud was committed: fraudsters figure out how many votes are needed, they go make those ballots, then “find” them.
So, we can hypothetically say “what if this was engineered to be fraud?”
And, we can see that the fraudster would NOT go to court. He or she gets a chance to resign. And, “we” almost never decertify an election.
so, if a party commits fraud, no one ever gets a criminal charge, but just gets asked to resign and it is chalked up as a mistake, and the election is never invalidated.
Thus, fraud can occur AND it never fit your narrow definition of “proven.”
This is a game you are playing . It is not honest. Maybe you know that and are being disingenuous. Maybe you are a True Believer and are parroting what you have heard is the “truth.” “There was no fraud – there have been no criminal convictions.”
Again: there are many avenues of evidence for fraud. One of many is this.
In Georgia, drop-off ballot boxes are supposed to have cameras watching them 24/7. By those cameras, investigators were able to figure out WHO / what cars, passed by, in late hours dropping off bundles of votes.
They traced the cell phones pinging off cell towers and they now know who dozens of these drop-off ballot “mules” are.
Also with the videos, we would logically assume this: if you have to drop off your own / no one can harvest your ballot and drop it off for you – which is the case / is the law – then if a drop-off ballot box had 250 ballots in it, then the video of that ballot box should have each of all 250 getting dropped off. A car pulls up and drops off a ballot, a person walks by, a bicyclist comes by. Maybe the max votes for a car would be 4, if 4 genuine voters all shared the ride and all cast their ballots in that ballot drop box all at the same time.
Well, it is a fact that the number of ballots dropped off in some of these ballot boxes far exceeds the number of people passing by and dropping off a ballot.
Now, to me, I consider this proof of ballot harvesting. It is one part of the entire fraud story. Does the ballot harvesting itself in one county mean that the election was fraudulently stolen? No.
So, a jack ass like you can keep saying “there is no proof.” But to any honest person, this plus other facts add up to obvious fraud.
It is really sad. I have a lot of Dem friends and family. As I talk over these various bits and pieces, some are realizing they have been “True Believers,” and arguing a dumb point. But the rest do like you repeating dumb talking points.
I agree with what the Dem platform was decades ago. I still identify as “Dem,” but the “Dem” party has gone communist.
Like I was telling a family member the other day. Dem has NO platform. No ideas, no path, no solutions. They nowadays only can say “racist,” and “homophobe.” That is all thy have.
And, each of the two parties has its solid voting bloc, but there is a MASSIVE group who will vote for Bush, then Clinton.
**These people are giving up on Dem Party.**
The Dem party cannot win without cheating in state and national elections. End of story. I was a “Walkaway” in 2000 because I thought the party was more interested in getting a candidate who “looked presidential” (AKA like JFK) and the best guy they had was Gore, versus a great candidate on a Dem platform.
So, I did the Walkaway and voted for Nader.
Next up: Kerry. A double dumber choice compared to Gore, a lousy choice.
It is not just me. When I first started reading WUWT, 17 or 18 years ago, my opinion is it was mostly liberals. Educated, intellectual “progressives” like me.
It could still be, but it has really had a conservative viewership in recent years.
Some could be people like me who have given up on the corrupt, disgraceful “Dem” party.
Ok, so you can cite a lot of circumstantial instances of irregularity. That is not any proof of the kind of coordinated effort that would be required to overturn a national election. Frankly, I’ve followed this issue for a long time, and I’ve thought that if either party was going to engage in widescale election rigging, it would be Democrats. Among the things I have done is perused the findings of the Heritage Foundation on voting fraud. There are plenty of instances of individuals cheating, but that is not what we’re looking for. I also have no doubt that there may be a corrupt individual official here and there that is in fact engaging on cheating. However, the claims that Trump has made are much more expansive than that, and he has essentially no one and nothing to back him up. Nobody has anything they could go to court with, and until someone does, it is hot air. Where was Project Veritas in all this? They are good sniffing out this sort of thing. You’d have thought they could have come up with something. I appreciate your sincere and thoughtful answer, but I’m unmoved. Here is the link to the Heritage Foundation reporting on voting fraud: Voter Fraud Map: Election Fraud Database | The Heritage Foundation
For heaven’s sake Tom1–It is NOT circumstantial! If you honestly looked at it you woudl not embarrass yourself like this.
I would also add, that unlike you I was never a Democrat, and always voted for Republicans for President except when I was barely old enough to vote. Now, looking at the Trump version of Republicanism, I’m keeping my distance from that.
The fact that you dislike being Republican just because Trump was a womanizer and an asshat shows that you really don’t understand why “Republicans” supported Trump.
We understand that a lot of people have bought the big lies that free trade makes the little guy wealthy and that globalism is good. But it doesn’t and it’s not. Trump is a scumbag as a person, and frankly not particularly conservative… but at least he was willing to actually say that OUR concerns matter, make attempts to actually fight the bureaucracy to address our concerns, and that we need to reign in the excesses of Washington wasting or stealing our money for their own interests.
Every other “Republican” that has run for the Presidency since Reagan has basically just been a Democrat that mouthed the platitudes people wanted to hear to get elected. The never-Trumpers are as big a part of the problem this country has as the worst… the worst of the crazy liberals. And frankly, you might be the bigger problem. They at least are honest about being assholes (I.e. they admit they want things that are bad, they just lie and say they are good.) whereas never-Trumpers just want the business as usual gravy train that makes the country (i.e. normal joe Americans) poorer… all so they can pretend that men like Bush or Clinton aren’t just as terrible of people as Trump. Newsflash… they are also scum.
I listened carefully to the arguments of Republicans who said they supported Trump in spite of what may be charitably called character issues. I could understand that they thought he would pursue the right policies and so they could hold their nose and vote for him anyway. One problem with that is that his character issues made it easy for Democrats to attack him, even if the attacks were fabrications like the Steele Dossier. His behavior through the pandemic and election I think demonstrate that he was and is unfit to be POTUS. People will, of course, disagree, but that is my feeling.
“vague anecdotal evidence”? Only people not looking could possibly say that. Oh, I get it–Rachel said that so it must be true! Let’s not do anything like LOOK at the evidence coming out.
Tom, He just gave you two significant facts to support his premise.
They are neither facts nor significant.
Apparently, you wouldn’t know a fact if it was your own personal Lemmiwinks. You are not a dumb ass, but the blinders make you appear as such.
Yes, thanks for that. The turnout in 2020 was very high at 66.9% of the voter eligible population. The Republican vote increased by 11.2 million votes and the Democratic vote increased by 15.4 million votes. Biden turned 5 states that Trump had won in 2016; the vote difference in those 5 states was about 350,000 votes. That’s mainly background, but also facts. The “facts” of Biden getting more votes than Obama, and Trump being the first incumbent to lose when he gained so many votes may well be facts, but they are not proof of anything. At the end of the day, Trump could get no one to back up his claim regardless of some irrelevant “facts”. That’s your problem in a nutshell.
None of it really makes sense in the context of how things have worked in the past. It really is more understandable as fraud. Yet, Biden and the DNC are not anxious to remove the cloud that hangs over his legitimacy. I might be that they know what they would find if they start diligently turning over rocks.
Every election is going to have some statistical anomalies. If you want to find something, you just scratch around until you find anything that works for your theory and then claim it as proof or evidence. The only high ranking public official that has come forward with the claim of fraud is Trump. Where are the others? One would think that on a science blog whose raison d’être is arguing that climate change alarmists lack any real evidence, that there would be an awareness of the need for real proof, not just a whiff of something unusual. Claims of a stolen election require a fairly wide ranging conspiracy; that is always a sign that you are dealing with nonsense.
2000 Mules sez it was a nationwide coordinated effort:
https://rumble.com/embed/vqzk5k/?pub=4
You obtain “proof” by diligent and thorough investigation by those with the ability to subpoena witnesses and, if necessary, convene a grand jury. A single complaint, such as a shop owner alleging theft, or ‘people with a uterus’ claiming sexual violation, who come forward with a reasonable complaint should trigger an investigation. It doesn’t have to be a ‘class action’ complaint. Someone with legal standing, who claims personal harm, should trigger an investigation, even if the MSM calls it a lie. The MSM is NOT an authorized law enforcement agency or justice department representative. Everyone deserves their day in court if they have been harmed.
What evidence that is there that that you can post or show verifying the election was stolen?
Also, why do believe someone who said they would turn over their business to their heirs while in the presidency but never did, claimed they had a federal Medicare program replacement but never showed it, said they would show everyone how they cheated the tax system so we all could benefit similarly and never did, oh yeah and blatantly admitted to down playing the severity of Covid. All recorded all evidence you can actually see how much he lies and just the easy tips if the iceberg of lies that are the losing former president. Just fascinated why anyone believes some one that lies that much and is so careless at it.
Are you aware that in PA 2 million more mail-in ballots were counted than were sent out? Similar events in several states.
Your evidence for this is?
There is some irony in people on a science blog being asked for evidence when they make a claim of fact and then giving negative marks in response to a request for proof. It suggests there is something going on besides a search for the truth.
Why are those on your side of the issue not clamoring to have an investigation to prove what you believe and remove the cloud over the legitimacy of the elections?
So, it’s “The Dog That Didn’t Bark” theory. You want to hang your hat on that?
“Lack of evidence is not evidence against a claim.”
There is so much more than this–but have at it, below. And be sure to verify with the left wing fact checkers becasue they really want to get at the truth–they have our wellbeing at heart when they tell us not to believe our eyes, and the videos, and the numbers, and the statistics, and the witnesses, and what we saw on election night, and our common sense. /sarc

https://2020electionirregularities.com/statistical-anomalies/state-lawmakers-pennsylvania-has-202377-more-ballots-cast-than-voters-who-voted/
The statement reads: “A comparison of official county election results to the total number of voters who voted on November 3, 2020, as recorded by the Department of State shows that 6,962,607 total ballots were reported as being cast, while DoS/SURE system records indicate that only 6,760,230 total voters actually voted. Among the 6,962,607 total ballots cast, 6,931,060 total votes were counted in the presidential race, including all three candidates on the ballot and write-in candidates.
The difference of 202,377 more votes cast than voters voting, together with the 31,547 over- and under-votes in the presidential race, adds up to an alarming discrepancy of 170,830 votes, which is more than twice the reported statewide difference between the two major candidates for President of the United States.

Another question Pennsylvania’s state department has failed to answer is why there are just fewer than 20 voters who have the birth date of Jan. 1, 1900. While there might have been legitimate Pennsylvania citizens with that birth date in the past, these records suggest that at least 20 people over the age of 120 years old requested a ballot for the 2020 election.
Thousands of voters are recorded as casting a ballot days or months before the state claims they mailed out the ballot. It is unclear if this means a voter received two ballots or not.
Shortly before the election, the U.S. Postal Service told voters to expect a delivery time of 2.5 days for their ballots. Despite this turnaround time, the Pennsylvania database recorded multiple voters who, despite using a “MAILIN” form to request a ballot, which should take days to reach the state’s election offices, was magically received on the same day.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has now admitted in a court filing that YES, those workers in Fulton County WERE processing ballots into the night on November 3, 2020, AFTER they forced the observers and the media to leave. Prior to yesterday’s filing, Raffensperger had given 3 different versions of what happened on Election Night at State Farm Arena, all of the versions being false: first, he said they were not counting ballots (false), then he said that he had observers from his office there the entire time (false), then he told Sixty Minutes that ‘we” (the Trump team) had ‘edited’ the tape. All false. Now, in a court filing he has admitted that YES, they were counting ballots AFTER they made the observers leave (which is illegal under GA law) and yes, there are ‘some’ duplicate ballots because the machines kept jamming. The preliminary investigation of the number of duplicate ballots is roughly 3700… that we KNOW of. Remember that the margin between President Trump and Joe Biden in Georgia was 11,799. Raffensperger told the court yesterday that there is now an investigation into the duplicate ballots….

Maricopa County, which represents Arizona’s most populous county thanks to its county seat of Phoenix, had provided Biden a 45,000-vote advantage in the state, propelling Biden to a victory by 10,457 votes. So the media presented the recount as confirming Biden’s victory in the state.
Left unmentioned, however, were the numerous findings of problems with the election and, most significantly, evidence indicating tens of thousands of ballots were illegally cast or counted.

According to the Audit, of the 45,665 total non-matches, 63.1 percent were from a name non-match, meaning the name submitted by the new voter on the ballot application did not match the name on file at the DOT. Shockingly, the DOT does not provide WEC with the reason of the non-match, so “clerks are uncertain whether a non-match occurred because of only a slight difference in a given individual’s name, which may indicate little cause for concern, or a significant difference, which may indicate that an individual is attempting to register to vote by using another individual’s information.”
According to the Audit, WEC staff did not attempt to match 13,800 new voter records for a variety of reasons.

Thus, what you may not know from that news coverage is that Gableman outlined very serious problems in Wisconsin’s elections.
___________________
https://www.wisconsinrightnow.com/2022/03/01/gableman-report/
Some “unlawful conduct and irregularities” outlined in the Gableman report include:
1. Election officials’ use of absentee ballot drop boxes in violation of Wis. Stat. § 6.87(4)(b)1 and § 6.855;
2. The Center for Tech and Civic Life’s $8,800,000 Zuckerberg Plan Grants being run in the Cities of Milwaukee, Madison, Racine, 8 Kenosha and Green Bay constituting Election Bribery Under Wis. Stat. § 12.11 (he also found that “Safe Voting Was a Pretext—The Real Reason for (Center for Tech & Civic Life) WSVP Grants was to Facilitate Increased In-Person and Absentee Voting in Specific Targeted Areas Inside the (Mark) Zuckerberg 5.”);
3. WEC’s failing to maintain a sufficiently accurate WisVote voter database, as determined by the Legislative Audit Bureau;
4. The Cities of Milwaukee, Madison, Racine, Kenosha and Green Bay engaging private companies in election administration in unprecedented ways, including tolerating unauthorized users and unauthorized uses of WisVote private voter data under Wisconsin
Elections Commission (WEC) policies, such as sharing voter data for free that would have cost the public $12,500;
5. As the Racine County Sheriff’s Office has concluded, WEC unlawfully directed the municipal clerks not to send out the legally required special voting deputies to nursing homes, resulting in many nursing homes’ registered residents voting at 100% rates and many ineligible residents voting, despite a guardianship order or incapacity. He further noted,
“WEC’s unlawful activities facilitated and encouraged possible widespread criminality and election fraud. Aside from the fact that they were legally and morally wrong, these acts led to 100% voting rates in many nursing homes in Brown, Dane, Kenosha, Milwaukee and Racine Counties and incapacitated people voting statewide. Given that there are approximately 92,000 residents of facilities governed by Wis. Stat. §6.875 statewide, the fact that tens of thousands of illegal ballots from these facilities were counted casts doubt on the 2020 Presidential election result.”
6. Unlawful voting by wards-under-guardianship left unchecked by Wisconsin election officials, where WEC failed to record that information in the State’s WisVote voter database, despite its availability through the circuit courts—all in violation of the federal Help America Vote Act.
7. WEC’s failure to record non-citizens in the WisVote voter database, thereby permitting non-citizens to vote, even though Wisconsin law requires citizenship to vote—all in violation of the Help America Vote Act. Unlawful voting by non-citizens left unchecked by Wisconsin election officials, with WEC failing to record that information in the State’s WisVote voter database.
Gableman further noted, “In violation of its federal and state legal obligations, Wisconsin election officials failed to prevent non-citizens from voting in the 2020 Presidential election—casting doubt on the election result.”
8. Wisconsin election officials’ and WEC’s violation of Federal and Wisconsin Equal Protection Clauses by failing to treat all voters the same in the same election.
Gableman’s findings come on the heels of a non-partisan Legislative audit bureau report that found that the Wisconsin Election Commission violated state law in numerous ways in the 2020 presidential election; a Republican sheriff’s referral of felony criminal charges against members of the Wisconsin Election Commission; a District Attorney’s letter that found that Wisconsin Election Commissioners exceeded their authority under the law; and a report from the Wisconsin Institute of Law and Liberty that found legal problems with election administration. In addition, Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge Michael Bohren issued a summary judgment decision in court, ruling that absentee ballot drop boxes and ballot harvesting are not permitted by state law; the Wisconsin Supreme Court allowed the ban to go into effect for the spring general election.
The Gableman report noted, “This Report flags systematic problems with voting in elder care facilities, an issue that was also recently blown wide open by the Racine County Sheriff.”
Thanks for responding to Tom.1. My usual response to such people is “do your own research” since they won’t accept plains evidence handed to them by the ‘other side’.
The charge of a stolen election is an extraordinary claim and requires extraordinary proof. It is clearly what resulted on the attack on the Capitol. Given me a list of high-ranking Republicans who still accept Trump’s claim. If it weren’t for Trump’s influence with some Republican voters, none of them would have ever backed Trump on this.
The Wall Street Journal, the most reliably conservative new organization of any consequence, does not agree:Trump’s False Claims of Voter Fraud Test Republican Candidates – WSJ
All the court cases that were filed on the “stolen election” have been thrown out.
Former AG William Barr has rejected the idea of a stolen election.
Yet, people want to claim I’m refusing to look.
So, you asked for a reference, Shelly gives you a bunch, you refuse to look at it.
Why did you ask in the first place?
Shelly,
Thank you.
This is an ‘old’ string, so it won’t get the attn it deserves. Even the guy you responded to will not read it … because of the kind of person he is. But, keep it up.
I am sure Biden got more votes then Obama…sure
Even The Boy Who Cried Wolf was right one time. However, people like you are willing to ignore the fraud claims based on your dislike of the man and your perception of unreliable statements. Usually, the prosecution is not allowed to enter past history into testimony for that very reason. But, until or unless the Rule of Law is allowed to prevail, we will never know if the claims are true or not. With the issue being so important, it is in everyone’s best interest to have the question of fraud resolved so that the electorate can have faith in the process. Yet, you seem unwilling to have that cloud removed. Why is that?
Here’s another thought. If there was significant voter fraud, it had to involve some voting officials who would presumably be Democrats. Why didn’t Trump simply offer a huge monetary reward to get at least one of them to come forward and confess or rat out someone else. Wouldn’t that make sense. Did that happen. No, it didn’t. Seems like such evidence would be priceless.
It would be priceless. However, if a woman is raped it isn’t up to her to offer a reward for information on who the rapist was. Everyone is supposed to be equal under the eyes of the law. Besides, offering a large reward could complicate things by someone trying to fraudulently cash in on the reward. There are mechanisms in place that don’t require the aggrieved to fund their own investigation.
A ten legged squid which is one of the world’s best preserved fossils has been named after another well preserved fossil, Sleepy Joe Biden. The resemblance is uncanny though there is no evidence the squid used its tentacles to fondle womens hair.

Sorry, Dave. Endless postings of this picture are getting boring.
How’s about this one?
Thanks, great. Please don’t recycle them more than 20 times.

I like the caveman, too. 🙂
I save him for special occasions…
Gawd, the first two times I saw this, I thought it was a satire article, like something the Babylon Bee might come up with. Yes indeed, some features of a squid, some features of a cuttlefish, and way older than both.No brain, an autonomous nervous system which functions by reflex only.
OK, this is starting to sound familiar. Good choice in names then.
Or its competitor, The Rutabaga.
I wonder if the discoverer is a Biden supporter, or secretly insulting him.

Biden Says Gas Prices Are Not His Fault Unless They Go Back Down Again
March 9th, 2022 – BabylonBee.com
Joe Biden held a press conference to address criticisms head-on claiming he is responsible for America’s higher gas prices. The President strongly refuted such claims, stating that he’s not responsible—unless of course, the prices go way down.
“It’s simply not true. It just isn’t folks,” said Joe Biden defensively. “I have no control over gas prices whatsoever—unless, of course, they go way back down again. In that case, then it’s all me.”

Gotta love the Bee!
“From gender reveal grenades to more affirming drill sergeants, the Army is leading the way in inclusion!”
I lost it that line 🙂
Sometimes one has to take responsibility for what they haven’t done — such as fixing the supply line problem, and bringing inflation down to lower operating costs and drilling costs.
The hypocrisy of Biden in all this is dark and thick.
Australia is viewed as the evil empire without climate ambition for not agreeing to curtail energy exports as part of the Net Zero policy. That decision appears inspired now and will help the LNP in the coming Federal election.
Now the EU and UK are begging Canada to open their energy reserves to supply them. Trudeau is promising they can export “green” hydrogen to Europe.
Has Europe curved the 21/22 winter or is there more cold yet to come?
The real issue will come if Putin turns off the gas like he is threatening. Cold or not the EU will be scrambling then … lessons in energy security are a dish best served cold.
I see what you did there.
Yeah – subtle wasn’t it?
More cold to come. Looks like Ukraine is being hit by weather up to 10 degrees colder than average for this time of year and central Europe out to the UK will get it next. Next week should see it easing a bit apparently.
White House Neglects Obvious Funding Crunch for U.S. Oil Drillers
by WENDELL HUSEBØ – 9 Mar 2022
…
While the Psaki and President Joe Biden have cited numerous times that oil companies should be drilling on their 9,000 prepared oil leases to fill the void in the market, the cost of financing new oil sites has dramatically risen due to the Biden administration, which has effectively priced new oil production out of the market.
The cost of capital in 2022 is reportedly 20 percentage points more costly for long-cycle developments than in the past. “Ten years ago, the ‘cost of capital’ for developing oil and gas as compared to renewable projects was pretty much the same, falling consistently between 8% and 10%. But not anymore,” Bloomberg reported in November.
Oil companies have little incentive to make 10-year investments when politicians are disincentivizing the consumption of oil through renewable energy subsidies.

David, thank you once again for a detailed, educational, and entertaining post.
A request: After you’ve finished this series, please prepare a separate short summary, at a very simple level, so that we could try to explain all this to brainwashed mainstream-median-watching family members.
Regards,
Bob
I don’t think it’s possible to “dumb down” to the brainwashed level… They’re brainwashed because they were dumber than schist in the first place… 😎
Besides, even if you could dumb it down enough… they still wouldn’t believe it. It is brainwashing after all.
The distinction between a lease and a permit can be illustrated by an old Communist era joke:
An official: I got your application for a punk concert. I’m afraid it can’t happen.
Musician: So you are going to forbid it?
Official: Of course not. On the other hand, I can’t permit it.
Cute. You have bid for the lease before you even get a permit.
We’re going to get rid of allies and Russian neighbors and free people in general.
Democrat-ocracy in a nutshell…
Or demo-crazy!
David,
Fixed.
I’m asking this out of personal ignorance. How does the responsible entity “identify” oil without drilling? I looks like a Catch 22 situation.
As a geologist, I realize that. It is the basis for seismic exploration. However, what that does is establish that conditions are favorable for O&G accumulation. My understanding is that drilling is required to prove the existence of O&G. It may have leaked out of the trap. The point of my question was that it appears to require drilling to establish proof, but “proof” is necessary to get a drilling permit. You haven’t clarified my question.
I’m not an expert but from rereading the post I don’t think they need proof to apply for a drilling permit, just a best guess analysis of the area in question.
Proof is not a precondition to obtain a drilling permit. I work in a state agency that issues permits and, if you want to go through all of the brain damage to get one and want to waist your money drilling where you have little chance to find anything, we want stop you. We just require that you properly clean-up your site after you are done. As a geologist I find that all drill holes provide some new information so there is that.
Basically, Biden wants the companies he’s trying to put out of business to ‘fall on their own swords’ to help him get re-elected in two years. Clearly, he hasn’t thought this through! More evidence of either incompetence or senility — or both.
Well, to be fair most of those companies were fairly comfortable supporting him over Trump. So it’s not entirely unreasonable of him to think their support might include cutting their profit margins… oh wait.

nice post. i see that you post as joe. so do i. going forward i will start posting as joe x. are you ok with that?
Shoulda gone with big Joe and little joe based on who used a capital J and who didn’t – think you may have missed a trick there!
Thanks! You can just keep posting as little-j oh ee, or if you want you can have the big “J”.
Speaking of Neanderthals, notice all the folks lined up at gas stations, anxious to beat the rising gas prices by topping up their gas tanks, wasting untold amounts of gas idling, not to mention their time, just to save themselves perhaps a nickel or so per gallon. Have they ever thought of the absurdity, since their purchase is likely only 3 or 4 gallons (if that) so they are only “saving” perhaps 20 cents? It never ceases to amaze me how irrational people can be.
As Ben Franklin observed, “A penny saved is a penny earned.” They can turn their engines off while waiting their turn. Whether their time is worth it or not is subjective. It is probably time better spent than watching re-runs on TV.
Can you rewrite this more objectively, without such ideological phrasing?
The people who really need to read this simply won’t because of terms like Brandon and plandemic.
No.
The ideological phrasing offers feebleminded people an entry point into the discussion.
Why invest in costly extraction when it is more profitable to sell oil purchased from where ever at top dollar prices using the existing import distribution infrastructure.. Hydrocarbon fuel is a global market place under intense pressures of various levels of cartels and collusion. There are massive wind fall profits when oil skyrockets until the pressure to increase production and the political alignments change eventually reestablish some normal equilibrium of supply and price.. Brandon’s first mistake in the first week of his presidency was to go hard on Saudi Arabia and easy on Iran…. just like Obama, which caused supply to plummet and oil to skyrocket for a while. Did Brandon care what the American public had to pay for gas? Eisenhower used his great popularity and power to build the national Interstate system. Putin is building a massive hydrocarbon infrastructure that will serve the shores of four oceans. Meanwhile, Americans are consuming massive supplies of idiot propaganda regarding climate change and paying the oil companies double and filling the tax coffers.
Progressives encourage greater US oil production by proposing to immediately screw energy companies.
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/warren-targets-oil-companies-plan-184515031.html
Russia exported 217 billon cubic meters of natural gas in 2020. The USA exports 7.7 tons of LNG, doing the conversions this is about 4% of the Russian total NG export. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2014 put a big damper on the PA & NY NG industry that had planned to export NG via LNG to the black sea and to Europe. The total global LNG market has not expanded as quickly as expected with only 4% growth in 2020 and grow is expected to slow further in in 2021 and 2022.
If they’re really quick with an offer they could see a massive increase as there’s suddenly an opportunity to supply over 217 billion m3 of natural gas to the EU!
In one way I am glad of gas prices rising at the pumps. Every time they go up we get more votes for Republicans. Already Hispanics and Blacks are realizing that voting for Democrats makes their lives harder. On the other hand I won’t be going fishing as much as I hope this summer as prices for ethanol free gas is now $6 per gallon here on the Oregon Coast.
We need less politics and more analysis. We need facts.
Their behavior is just as they have taught the children. Demand whatever you want and when you don’t get it scream and shout and blame any and everybody else that it’s their fault that the world doesn’t bow at your feet.
If it wasn’t so serious it would be laughable.
The worst crime we can commit is to say “we said this would happen when you started but you wouldn’t listen”.
James Bull
No. The worst crime would be to allow it to continue without consequences. Possibly, the ’22 election can be a fine start. Once the Dominion and other machines are completely outlawed in the nation. Vote them all out. Democommies and rinos alike. Then restrain the DC crowd with legislative blocks wherever possible.
