Do they not know the difference between a lease and a permit? Or do they just toss these words and numbers out, assuming no one will bother to check them out?
A mineral lease is the exclusive rights to the mineral resources under a tract of land or seafloor.
In exchange for predetermined compensation, this is a specific type of lease arrangement between an entity and a property owner. It grants the entity the rights to explore to determine if minerals are present and, also, to extract minerals, like iron, copper, oil, or even natural gas, from the leased property.

Federal mineral leases are awarded to the high bidders in competitive lease sales. Federal leases generally have 5 to 10 year primary terms. Leaseholders may then apply for permits to drill wells.

The BLM posts these APDs on its 30 Day Federal Public Posting Report Page. The BLM governs the APD process under Onshore Order #1 and its 2017 amendment, which is codified under 43 CFR §3160.

President-Elect Biden wants to end new drilling on those lands as part of his transition to renewable energy, with the goal of making the nation carbon neutral by 2050 and the generating sector carbon neutral by 2035, a full 10 years prior to California’s target, which is already causing supply problems in the state.
Despite oil producers slashing budgets, major companies have been acquiring enough permits to keep pumping through Biden’s upcoming term realizing that the nation will still need oil and gas for many years into the future. Under President Trump, crude production from federal and tribal lands and waters increased sharply, topping a billion barrels in 2019, which was almost a third higher than the last year of the Obama Administration.
Companies submitted more than 3,000 drilling permit applications in a three-month period that included the election. Department of Interior officials approved almost 1,400 drilling applications, which is the highest number of approvals for that amount of time during Trump’s four-year term. The government approved about 500 new drilling permits in September alone, more than double the same month in 2019. In 2020, the Trump administration issued over 4,700 drilling permits, which is comparable to approval numbers from early last decade when oil peaked over $100 a barrel, about twice the current price.
Processing times for completed applications to the Bureau of Land Management dropped from almost 140 days on average in the last year of Obama’s administration to 44 days in fiscal year 2019, which is still much slower than many state permitting processes. In 2020, some companies had permits awarded in a little over a month; other permits took longer but an average time is not yet available.

(AP) — In the closing months of the Trump administration, energy companies stockpiled enough drilling permits for western public lands to keep pumping oil for years and undercut President-elect Joe Biden’s plans to curb new drilling because of climate change, according to public records and industry analysts.
An Associated Press analysis of government data shows the permit stockpiling has centered on oil-rich federal lands in New Mexico and Wyoming. It accelerated during the fall as Biden was cementing his lead over President Donald Trump and peaked in December, aided by speedier permitting approvals since Trump took office.
The goal for companies is to lock in drilling rights on oil and gas leases on vast public lands where they make royalty payments on any resources extracted. The concern was so great that we were advised to file Suspension of Operations (SOO) applications for all of our leases in the Gulf of Mexico.
In reality, they did not halt new permits. They stripped the BLM and BSEE regional offices of permit approval authority during that 60-day period. Permit approval authority was limited to political hacks, “a small number of senior Interior officials — the secretary, deputy secretary, solicitor and several assistant secretaries”. The fact that the permit approval process didn’t even significantly slow down, from our perspective, indicated that the political hacks were approving whatever the professional regulators in the BSEE regional offices recommended.
The denial of drilling permits on existing leases had been the only roadblock that this miserable excuse for a maladministration hasn’t thrown in front of the US oil & gas industry…

The Biden administration has once again put a pause on new leases and permits for federal oil and gas drilling after a judge blocked the administration from using a metric that estimates the societal cost of carbon emissions.
Earlier this month, US District Judge James Cain of the Western District of Louisiana issued an injunction preventing the Biden administration from using what’s known as the “social cost of carbon” in decisions around oil and gas drilling on public land, or in rules governing fossil fuel emissions. The ruling has consequences for a range of Biden administration actions on climate change, but especially on the Interior Department’s federal oil and gas leasing program.
In an appeal filed by government attorneys on Saturday night, the Biden administration argued Cain’s injunction necessitated a pause on all projects where the government was using a social-cost-of-carbon analysis in its decision-making.
The appeal is the latest in a legal battle in the courts between several Republican-led states and the Biden administration over the social cost of carbon, a metric that uses economic models to put a value on each ton of carbon dioxide emitted. The idea is to quantify the economic harm caused by the climate crisis like sea level rise, more destructive hurricanes, extreme wildfire seasons and flooding.

ON 2/28/22President Joe Biden‘s spokeswoman defends rising gasoline costs as the cost Americans must pay for standing up for our values. It is a neat trick to cite Russian sanctions for price increases that predate the sanctions. Democrats blame Russian strongman Vladimir Putin for Hillary Clinton‘s loss in 2016 and record-breaking inflation rates, but Hillary was a flawed candidate and Biden has long been waging war on affordable energy.
Biden’s first actions as president included re-entering the Paris Climate Accord, canceling the Keystone XL Pipeline, halting a leasing program in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), issuing a 60-day halt on new oil and gas leases and drilling permits on federal lands and waters (which account for nearly 25% of U.S. production), directing federal agencies to eliminate fossil fuel “subsidies,” imposing tougher regulations on oil and gas methane emissions (which were first promulgated under President Barack Obama and had been eased under President Donald Trump), and hiring SEC regulators to prepare climate and ESG disclosure mandates.
The Keystone pipeline’s cancelation denies America cheaper and environmentally safer access to Canadian oil for Gulf Coast refineries. Biden’s other policies will do even more damage, make America weaker and more dependent on foreign countries, and drive up energy prices. Even New Mexico’s Democratic governor criticized Biden’s suspension of oil and gas leases, asked for an exemption to protect her economy and education funding, and argued that shifting production elsewhere would increase carbon emissions.
Biden’s Interior Department has proposed policies to increase the cost of domestically produced energy. Secretary Debra Haaland has recommended that we hike the federal royalty rate for oil and gas drilling on federal lands, consider raising the bond payments companies must set aside for future cleanups, and focus leasing in areas close to existing oil and gas infrastructure. House Democrats would like to go even further and ban drilling in ANWR and along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.
Biden extended his 60-day moratorium on new oil and gas leases indefinitely, until the administration could complete a comprehensive review on “climate change impacts.” Republican attorneys general successfully sued the administration to resume oil and gas lease sales, generating $192 million in bids for drilling rights in the Gulf of Mexico. Though companies have stockpiled leases and drilling permits, anticipating a hostile Biden administration, such moves offer only temporary respite. Biden’s moves to limit drilling activity and increase the costs of that activity will especially harm the economies of states like New Mexico, Wyoming, North Dakota and Colorado.

If Brandon suddenly reversed his positions on the Keystone XL pipeline, ANWR and holding Federal lease sales, it wouldn’t suddenly cause the price of oil to drop. However, markets react to perceptions. Oil prices began to rise just after the November 2020 coup d’etat.
His war on fossil fuels has clearly contributed to that rise in oil prices.
- Brandon and Obama halted construction of the Keystone XL pipeline for 9 of the past 13 years.
- Brandon nullified ANWR leases awarded to oil companies at the end of the Trump administration.

A year before Brandon idiotically cancelled the pipeline, TransCanada had already secured commitments from oil producers for 500,000 bbl/d for up to 20 years. This would have offset much of the crude oil we import from outside of North America.
While Brandon’s unlawful refusal to hold Gulf of Mexico lease sales, hasn’t significantly impacted US oil production yet, within a decade, it will likely lead to the US having to import an additional 1 million bbl/d of crude oil.
Would oil prices be lower today had Brandon not waged a war on the oil & gas industry? Probably… But there’s no way to know for sure.
Despite the efforts of Brandon and his ilk, US oil production will soon exceed pre-shamdemic production levels, largely due to the fact that most of our oil production comes from privately and state owned mineral leases.
That said, nothing short of Saudi Arabia dumping oil on the market like they did in early 2020, will cause oil prices to significantly decline.

But the offer of more barrels could also be conditional at some point and exact a political price that might scuttle world powers’ nuclear deal with Iran, jeopardizing the chance for even more output to cool a market at 14-year highs.
Crude prices were down double digits on Wednesday after the United Arab Emirates’ ambassador to Washington, Yousef Al Otaiba, said in a widely-circulated statement to the media that the number two energy producer in the Gulf “favors oil production increases.”
The UAE “will be encouraging OPEC to consider higher production levels,” Otaiba said, referring to the 13-member Saudi-led Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.

The sad part of this disaster is we Americans and Canadians and Mexicans could revert to the 1860 energy situtation – no electricity, no gasoline powered vehicles, no diesel tractors/harvesters/reapers. Air conditioners? What are they? and the beat goes on.

In short, there is tons of evidence, of multiple types.
There are two things that we do not have.
There is a lot of evidence of the type of #1, but they are people farther down the food chain.
There have been cases where people got charged with running an election the wrong way. Very few; these types of issues usually get racked up as someone failing to do their job the right way, and they get reprimanded or fired.
The person in
Harris County Texas is an example. She just resigned rather than be fired for “incompetence” in their fairly new voting / ballot system.
In that case, they had the same things happen as in the voter fraud of 2020. Ballots get declared “damaged,” and so some “volunteers” have to go through and “adjudicate,” have to discern who the voter INTENDED to vote for.
Also, this elections manager “found” 10,000 ballots AFTER counting was supposed to be done. There was a 24 hour time limit on getting the count finished because everyone knows how some fraud was committed: fraudsters figure out how many votes are needed, they go make those ballots, then “find” them.
So, we can hypothetically say “what if this was engineered to be fraud?”

Again: there are many avenues of evidence for fraud. One of many is this.
In Georgia, drop-off ballot boxes are supposed to have cameras watching them 24/7. By those cameras, investigators were able to figure out WHO / what cars, passed by, in late hours dropping off bundles of votes.
They traced the cell phones pinging off cell towers and they now know who dozens of these drop-off ballot “mules” are.
Also with the videos, we would logically assume this: if you have to drop off your own / no one can harvest your ballot and drop it off for you – which is the case / is the law – then if a drop-off ballot box had 250 ballots in it, then the video of that ballot box should have each of all 250 getting dropped off. A car pulls up and drops off a ballot, a person walks by, a bicyclist comes by. Maybe the max votes for a car would be 4, if 4 genuine voters all shared the ride and all cast their ballots in that ballot drop box all at the same time.
Well, it is a fact that the number of ballots dropped off in some of these ballot boxes far exceeds the number of people passing by and dropping off a ballot.
Now, to me, I consider this proof of ballot harvesting. It is one part of the entire fraud story. Does the ballot harvesting itself in one county mean that the election was fraudulently stolen? No.
So, a jack ass like you can keep saying “there is no proof.” But to any honest person, this plus other facts add up to obvious fraud.
It is really sad. I have a lot of Dem friends and family. As I talk over these various bits and pieces, some are realizing they have been “True Believers,” and arguing a dumb point. But the rest do like you repeating dumb talking points.

Yes, thanks for that. The turnout in 2020 was very high at 66.9% of the voter eligible population. The Republican vote increased by 11.2 million votes and the Democratic vote increased by 15.4 million votes. Biden turned 5 states that Trump had won in 2016; the vote difference in those 5 states was about 350,000 votes. That’s mainly background, but also facts. The “facts” of Biden getting more votes than Obama, and Trump being the first incumbent to lose when he gained so many votes may well be facts, but they are not proof of anything. At the end of the day, Trump could get no one to back up his claim regardless of some irrelevant “facts”. That’s your problem in a nutshell.
None of it really makes sense in the context of how things have worked in the past. It really is more understandable as fraud. Yet, Biden and the DNC are not anxious to remove the cloud that hangs over his legitimacy. I might be that they know what they would find if they start diligently turning over rocks.

You obtain “proof” by diligent and thorough investigation by those with the ability to subpoena witnesses and, if necessary, convene a grand jury. A single complaint, such as a shop owner alleging theft, or ‘people with a uterus’ claiming sexual violation, who come forward with a reasonable complaint should trigger an investigation. It doesn’t have to be a ‘class action’ complaint. Someone with legal standing, who claims personal harm, should trigger an investigation, even if the MSM calls it a lie. Another question Pennsylvania’s state department has failed to answer is why there are just fewer than 20 voters who have the birth date of Jan. 1, 1900. He further noted,
“WEC’s unlawful activities facilitated and encouraged possible widespread criminality and election fraud. Aside from the fact that they were legally and morally wrong, these acts led to 100% voting rates in many nursing homes in Brown, Dane, Kenosha, Milwaukee and Racine Counties and incapacitated people voting statewide. Given that there are approximately 92,000 residents of facilities governed by Wis. Stat. §6.875 statewide, the fact that tens of thousands of illegal ballots from these facilities were counted casts doubt on the 2020 Presidential election result.”
6. Unlawful voting by wards-under-guardianship left unchecked by Wisconsin election officials, where WEC failed to record that information in the State’s WisVote voter database, despite its availability through the circuit courts—all in violation of the federal Help America Vote Act.
7. WEC’s failure to record non-citizens in the WisVote voter database, thereby permitting non-citizens to vote, even though Wisconsin law requires citizenship to vote—all in violation of the Help America Vote Act. Unlawful voting by non-citizens left unchecked by Wisconsin election officials, with WEC failing to record that information in the State’s WisVote voter database.
Gableman further noted, “In violation of its federal and state legal obligations, Wisconsin election officials failed to prevent non-citizens from voting in the 2020 Presidential election—casting doubt on the election result.”
8. Wisconsin election officials’ and WEC’s violation of Federal and Wisconsin Equal Protection Clauses by failing to treat all voters the same in the same election.
Gableman’s findings come on the heels of a non-partisan Legislative audit bureau report that found that the Wisconsin Election Commission violated state law in numerous ways in the 2020 presidential election; a Republican sheriff’s referral of felony criminal charges against members of the Wisconsin Election Commission; a District Attorney’s letter that found that Wisconsin Election Commissioners exceeded their authority under the law; and a report from the Wisconsin Institute of Law and Liberty that found legal problems with election administration. In addition, Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge Michael Bohren issued a summary judgment decision in court, ruling that absentee ballot drop boxes and ballot harvesting are not permitted by state law; the Wisconsin Supreme Court allowed the ban to go into effect for the spring general election.
The Gableman report noted, “This Report flags systematic problems with voting in elder care facilities, an issue that was also recently blown wide open by the Racine County Sheriff.”

Usually, the prosecution is not allowed to enter past history into testimony for that very reason. But, until or unless the Rule of Law is allowed to prevail, we will never know if the claims are true or not. With the issue being so important, it is in everyone’s best interest to have the question of fraud resolved so that the electorate can have faith in the process. Here’s another thought. If there was significant voter fraud, it had to involve some voting officials who would presumably be Democrats. There are mechanisms in place that don’t require the aggrieved to fund their own investigation.

Oil companies have little incentive to make 10-year investments when politicians are disincentivizing the consumption of oil through renewable energy subsidies.

I’m asking this out of personal ignorance. How does the responsible entity “identify” oil without drilling? I looks like a Catch 22 situation.
As a geologist, I realize that. It is the basis for seismic exploration. However, what that does is establish that conditions are favorable for O&G accumulation. My understanding is that drilling is required to prove the existence of O&G. It may have leaked out of the trap. The point of my question was that it appears to require drilling to establish proof, but “proof” is necessary to get a drilling permit. You haven’t clarified my question.
I’m not an expert but from rereading the post I don’t think they need proof to apply for a drilling permit, just a best guess analysis of the area in question.
Proof is not a precondition to obtain a drilling permit. I work in a state agency that issues permits and, if you want to go through all of the brain damage to get one and want to waist your money drilling where you have little chance to find anything, we want stop you. We just require that you properly clean-up your site after you are done. As a geologist I find that all drill holes provide some new information so there is that.
Basically, Biden wants the companies he’s trying to put out of business to ‘fall on their own swords’ to help him get re-elected in two years. Clearly, he hasn’t thought this through! More evidence of either incompetence or senility — or both.
Well, to be fair most of those companies were fairly comfortable supporting him over Trump. So it’s not entirely unreasonable of him to think their support might include cutting their profit margins… oh wait.

Speaking of Neanderthals, notice all the folks lined up at gas stations, anxious to beat the rising gas prices by topping up their gas tanks, wasting untold amounts of gas idling, not to mention their time, just to save themselves perhaps a nickel or so per gallon. Have they ever thought of the absurdity, since their purchase is likely only 3 or 4 gallons (if that) so they are only “saving” perhaps 20 cents? It never ceases to amaze me how irrational people can be.
As Ben Franklin observed, “A penny saved is a penny earned.” They can turn their engines off while waiting their turn. Whether their time is worth it or not is subjective. It is probably time better spent than watching re-runs on TV.

Why invest in costly extraction when it is more profitable to sell oil purchased from where ever at top dollar prices using the existing import distribution infrastructure.. Hydrocarbon fuel is a global market place under intense pressures of various levels of cartels and collusion. There are massive wind fall profits when oil skyrockets until the pressure to increase production and the political alignments change eventually reestablish some normal equilibrium of supply and price.. Brandon’s first mistake in the first week of his presidency was to go hard on Saudi Arabia and easy on Iran…. just like Obama, which caused supply to plummet and oil to skyrocket for a while. Did Brandon care what the American public had to pay for gas? Eisenhower used his great popularity and power to build the national Interstate system. Putin is building a massive hydrocarbon infrastructure that will serve the shores of four oceans. Meanwhile, Americans are consuming massive supplies of idiot propaganda regarding climate change and paying the oil companies double and filling the tax coffers.

Russia exported 217 billon cubic meters of natural gas in 2020. The USA exports 7.7 tons of LNG, doing the conversions this is about 4% of the Russian total NG export. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2014 put a big damper on the PA & NY NG industry that had planned to export NG via LNG to the black sea and to Europe. The total global LNG market has not expanded as quickly as expected with only 4% growth in 2020 and grow is expected to slow further in in 2021 and 2022.
If they’re really quick with an offer they could see a massive increase as there’s suddenly an opportunity to supply over 217 billion m3 of natural gas to the EU!
In one way I am glad of gas prices rising at the pumps. Every time they go up we get more votes for Republicans. Already Hispanics and Blacks are realizing that voting for Democrats makes their lives harder. On the other hand I won’t be going fishing as much as I hope this summer as prices for ethanol free gas is now $6 per gallon here on the Oregon Coast.
We need less politics and more analysis. We need facts.

No. The worst crime would be to allow it to continue without consequences. Possibly, the ’22 election can be a fine start. Once the Dominion and other machines are completely outlawed in the nation. Vote them all out. Democommies and rinos alike. Then restrain the DC crowd with legislative blocks wherever possible.
