People of Colour Experience Climate Grief More Deeply Than White People
We are not only disproportionately affected by the climate crisis, but we carry a pain that comes from a long history of racial terror.

In an article for Vox, Cruse, a Wiradjuri, Gomeroi, and Monaroo-Yuin storyteller, told me, “We see and feel the spirit of our animals and our land; they are our ancestor spirits. We don’t own country, country owns us; we come from her to protect her. When country hurts, we hurt. When our animals, our spirit cousins, cry, we cry.”
…
“Just like other stressors that people of colour experience, ecological grief is often magnified,” said Dr. Tyffani Dent, a licensed psychologist and author, in an interview.
“People of colour know…society is going to make sure we’re impacted first, and impacted the hardest,” Dent said.
…
Research has bolstered the idea that white supremacy has led to the climate crisis. Scientists from University College London found that the mass genocide that accompanied the colonization of the Americas in the 15th century permanently altered Earth’s climate, due to “a huge swathe of abandoned agricultural land” that “pulled down enough carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to eventually chill the planet.”
…
Worldwide, the memory of indescribable racial terror informs the climate grief of our people.
…
“There’s a certain loneliness that comes with being a climate person,” Heglar said. “Then there’s an extra layer of loneliness that comes with being a climate person of colour, because you’re just stuck in this perpetual position of trying to save white people from themselves. And it’s so fucking exhausting.”

I hope the author someday finds a way to feel less lonely.

White man caused a famine in the 15th century because of lands that had laid bare since the 14th century plague reduced the population by one third? You really couldn’t make it up.
And, hey, it’s the white supremacists that did it. Those nasty white, old, educated and skilled ones really are the pits. As an old white educated man I consider that, perhaps, it is about timd I started behaving like a supremcist fascist. Tempting!
The black comedian said:”why do they call us blacks colored? when white people are hot they turn red, when cold they turn blue, when sick they turn green”
I am so glad I’m colored (a very pale pinkish beige) and not one of these terrible white people I keep hearing about . Where are they anyway? I don’t think I have ever seen one.
What trashy writing, filled with weasel words, assumptions without evidence, and blatant emotional manipulation. How do these people sleep at night when they are churning out such wretched prose?
Has this author discovered that the green movement is a white supremacist cabal?
say what?
Which “scientists” exactly? Where was the “large swath of agricultural land” you are referring to? No? Well then…I’m done reading as were you when you found that little tidbit but failed to cite it.
I’ve never understood the idea of putting people down to make them feel empowered. Seems to me the author of this fishwrap article needs to wake up a bit more and realize that people are people and constant flagellation on the differences vs the similarities does absolutely nothing but continue a vicious cycle best left buried on the side of the road.
Vice is a pile of bovine excrement.
You need to apologize to manure the world over.
As near as I can tell, the liberal definition of a white supremacist goes something like this:
Anyone who doesn’t agree that whites are responsible for all problems in the world.
“… the colonization of the Americas in the 15th century permanently altered Earth’s climate,” Wow! All of this happened before Columbus? Who knew!
White Christians, with help from any who were able and willing, eradicated the slave trade and were well on their way to destroying the atheist religion known as Communism in the 20th Century. Sadly, the fanatical followers of this cult buried into the belly of the nascent Green movement like some newly hatched alien in a SF film!
Now we must deal with GangGreen; the MOST racist and destructive entity in human history! Who prevents people in Africa from achieving energy independence with clean,coal-fired electricity? GangGreen!
Who stops farmers from growing Golden Rice and preventing blindness in tens of thousands of children in the Third World? GangGreen!
The ill-educated and brainwashed followers of the Progressive Cult of Climatology are indeed mostly white, so I suppose one could say that white supremacy is at fault. But it would be more accurate to call it eco-imperialism with Western elites keeping the Third World nations in poverty and chains with their misguided attempts to prevent a crisis that doesn’t actually exist!
It’s long past time to revive the Abolition Movement and aim it squarely at GangGreen and the other denominations of the Progressive religious cult. ALL humans deserve the chance to achieve freedom and prosperity; massive governmental bureaucracies can only deliver poverty and prison!
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Gotta breathe. Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Funniest damn thing I’ve seen all morning. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Not even original. 46 years ago Jefferson Starship wrote these lyrics to one of their songs:
It’s like a tear in the hands of a western man,
Tell you about salt, carbon and water
But a tear to a Chinese man,
He’ll tell you about sadness and sorrow
Or the love of a man and a woman.
I sure am glad that rock music lyrics are practically unitelligible, for reasons just like the one you mentioned. I wouldn’t want politics to intrude on my music, and it doesn’t because I, to this day, don’t know the lyrics to most rock songs although I have heard them all numerous times, and still listen to that kind of music, which I love.
But I don’t like musicians making me angry by taking some stupid political stand and trying to foist it off on me through their song, because it distracts from the music, but they don’t make me angry for the most part because I can’t tell exactly what they are saying, and that’s a good thing it turns out. An unexpected plus for rock music.
Rock music is the greatest. Leftwing politics inserted into rock music sucks big time.
To me it’s like watching tv and seeing a political statement masquerading as a comedy show, and if I disagree with the politics, then I don’t watch that program anymore. I would do the same with rock music. I like rock music enough to deliberately keep myself unknowledgeable about the politics of the musicians. I don’t want to know anything about them. I don’t want to know what politics they promote (of course, that’s not always possible). All I want is to enjoy their music. I can make up my own lyrics, ot judy hum along.
Screaming guitars = Great Music!
Best rock station in the country = The Eagle, 103.3 on your FM dial, or the internet.
[Rabid] Diversity (i.e. color judgment) breeds adversity.
Vice, the conveyor belt of intersectionality propaganda.
“University College” sounds like a school from “the Simpsons,” or a new National Lampoon college movie.
Just in case anyone might have forgotten THIS is how Hitler did it.
They didn’t throw the Jews in the camps the first day, they spent about ten years justifying it – justifying fear, bigotry, and hate.
I am a person of color. I am white. White is a color, right?
I have no idea what a “climate person” is. What IS a climate person? If I knew what one was, and I was one, then I too would be a “climate person of color”. I would be a climate person of the color, white.
As a climate person of the color, white, I would then preach about the issue of person-of-color supremacy, which involves the attitude of regarding one’s race as so distinct that all wrongs are wrongs directed at that race, which makes person-of-color supremacy a mere inversion of the supremacy being preached about under the name of “white supremacy”.
As a person of the color, white, I feel the historical weight of abuse by people of color who lump all persons of the color white into the same boat, in effect saying ALL persons of the color, white, are evil, which says what? — that the people making this assertion are doing the very thing that they are speaking against.
I keep asking this to no avail: what climate crisis? It is May in Edmonton, Alberta. If the weather is this good in Heaven, those angels have got it pretty good.
But, but, but… the seas are rising. (At an eighth of inch a year.) The Arctic is warming. (This would seem to me to be a plus if I lived above the Arctic circle, but I don’t, so I don’t care.) There are wildfires in Australia. (I don’t live there and will never go there.) Greta Thunberg’s childhood is missing. (She should asks her parents where it went, because they are the ones who talked her out of enjoying it.) David Suzuki is unhappy. (Good.)
I don’t care. I don’t care. Nyah, nyah, I don’t care.
Tomorrow:
1) chloroquine is cultural appropriation
OR
2) hydroxy- is white supremacy
I hear Avatar 2 is out soon i won’t watch the virtue signalling BS but i will be rooting for the corporation agian.
