Psychiatrist on CNN: Trump May Be Responsible for Millions of More Deaths Than Hitler, Stalin, Mao
Sunday on CNN’s “Reliable Sources,” psychiatrist Dr. Allen Frances said President Donald Trump “may be responsible for many more million deaths” than Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Mao Zedong.

He added, “Trump is as destructive a person in this century as Hitler, Stalin, and Mao were in the last century. He may be responsible for many more million deaths than they were. He needs to be contained but he needs to be contained by attacking his policies, not his person. It’s crazy for us to be destroying the climate our children will live in.

I agree that I should have interrupted after that line. I wish I had heard him say it, but I was distracted by tech difficulties (that's why the show open didn't look the way it normally does, I had two computers at the table, etc). Not hearing the comment is my fault.

Dr. Frances goes on to say that it is counterproductive to discuss Trump’s mental state in psychological terms, but he pulls no punches suggesting Trump’s policies are crazy.
I used to wonder if some people were attracted to psychology courses because they wanted to find solutions to their own problems.
I no longer believe this to be the case; but it is way past time the handful of psychology professionals, who in my opinion flout their own ethical guidelines by offering wild public opinions about the mental state of people whose policies they dislike, took a long hard look in the mirror.

After 27 semester hours of psychology courses, easy elective courses when taking an engineering curriculum, the things that became apparent to me were:
1. People who have such problems only get better once they recognize what their problems are irrespective of any treatment by professionals.
2. All of my professors had fairly serious personality defects and scientific/math deficiencies except for one.
3. And he was a psychoanalyst, which requires a PhD in clinical psychology, an MD and going through personal psychoanalysis. He also had the benefit of common sense none of which were apparently benefits enjoyed by Dr. Frances.
JimG, I took a sociology elective….I similarly found the profs were were math/science/common sense illiterate, in their case with extremely pompous personalities that made them notable to impressionable arts and poli-sci students, that I now recognize as symptomatic of the Dunning Kruger effect….my engineering profs, for the most part, were highly intelligent, very knowledgeable, soft spoken individuals who had a knack of making you feel small as an amoeba when you made mistakes, basically chastizing one for having a brain, not using it, and needing to fix that real soon….

The reality is that climate change is happening so slowly that it takes networks of very sophisticated sensors, decades to even detect it. We must not mix up climate cycles which are part of the current climate with true climate change. Based on the paleoclimate record and the work done with models, the climate change we are experiencing is caused by the sun and the oceans over which mankind has no control. Despite the hype, there is no real evidence that CO2 has any effect on climate and there is plenty of scientific rationale to support the idea that the climate sensitivity of CO2 is zero so even if we eliminated all CO2 from our atmosphere which would end life on this planet as we know it, eliminated all CO2 from our atmosphere would have no effect on climate. But even if we could somehow stop the Earth’s climate from slowly changing, extreme weather events and sea level rise would continue because they are part of the current climate. So the best that we can do to protect ourselves from the ravages of extreme weather events and sea level rise is to improve the economy so that we can invest more in improving infrastructure that protects us from the ravages of extreme weather events. I believe that is what the president is doing.
Dr. Frances is suffering from Delusional Reality Fluidity, a mental malady increasingly correlating with Trump Derangement Syndrome.

As a fellow psychiatrist, what Frances did, as well as his coworker on that same set, Brandy X Lee shows disregard for the Goldwater rule that Psychiatry is supposed to follow in making public comments about a person that a professional has never seen or interacted with clinically.
Brandy X Lee should be brought up on charges of inciting violence against the president of the United States, and thus lose her license as a psychiatrist, and perhaps be incarcerated. Allen Frances, he should be embarrassed and forced to slink away into the recesses of the corridors of community colleges, banned from Duke forever…

Funny story… back in my Usenet days, I knew Mike Godwin. He’s a leftist kook.
I drop-kicked him so hard that he started Godwin’ing me, leading to much hilarity… that was the impetus behind the notoriety of the reductio ad Hitlerum… Godwin refused to follow the rules of his own memetic device and concede defeat by being the first to play the Godwin card in our online argument.
