NOTE: This isn’t the normal fare for WUWT, but it has happened in my town, and this website is still connected to the local newspaper, the Chico Enterprise Record, where it got it’s start, so I’m covering it.
UPDATE: It gets worse. The website for the store sells T-shirts depicting cop killings see below

In less than 24 hours, a billboard comparing President Donald Trump to Hitler was installed and removed at East Third and Mangrove avenues.
The advertisement, paid for by local clothing store Rouse & Revolt, depicted Trump with a 45 fashioned on his sleeve in a swastika-style armband, his face stony amid nuclear explosions occurring behind him on the billboard’s red background.
Stott Outdoor Advertising took the display down after people erupted on social media.
The advertisement was called disgusting, despicable and “plain stupid,” by some, while others expressed support for Rouse & Revolt.

“Her billboard may have already been taken down, but any store owner that will speak truth to power in such a grand way has my support. I only wished I lived closer to Chico so I can show support through my wallet as well,” wrote Facebook user Tamara Hinckley.
While some called for a boycott of the business, others spoke about free speech and letting people express themselves.
Rouse & Revolt store owner Nicholle Haber Lewis wrote the following message with the original image on Facebook when the billboard first went up:
“We support equality, we support equal rights, we support a woman’s right to her own body, we support DACA, we support universal health care, we support gay people in any Place they live. We welcome all races, all religions, all countries of origin, all genders and we not only STAND with you, we kneel with you as well. Rouse & Revolt”

Stott Outdoor Advertising has confirmed they took this billboard down. Owner Jim Moravec has sent us the following statement:
“The core business of Stott Outdoor Advertising is providing a unique forum for the expression of ideas, both commercial and non-commercial. In this instance, the advertising message chosen by Rouse and Revolt clearly went beyond a commercial message and was primarily political in nature. Stott Outdoor has accepted and displayed political advertising for many years representing a wide variety of viewpoints, so long as the speaker is clearly identified and the message is legal, moral, and ethical. If those criteria are met, then Stott Outdoor is not going to be the party to limit the advertiser’s message.
In this instance, it has become obvious in hindsight that the identity of the speaker is insufficiently clear. While we here at Stott Outdoor have knowledge of Rouse and Revolt, a clothing company which has advertised with us in the past, many others do not have such knowledge of the business, and have interpreted the name of the business as a command or instruction. This confusion over the identity of the speaker, combined with the depiction of violence, prompted us to remove the advertising message.”
UPDATE:
It gets worse, apparently hate is a theme with this store, as you can buy a t-shirt that depicts cop-killing as this screencap of their website shows:

UPDATE2: Shortly after this posting their website went offline. Claims were being made in social media that their website was “hacked” and that this image was not theirs. I view that as “damage control”.
Unfortunately for them, the Internet never forgets, it’s on the Wayback Machine Internet Archive from July 28th, 2017, as well as their own Facebook page. See links and screencaps below.

I think it’s wonderful that Chico pulled together and got this removed. Nice work AW! Local power. I just love it.
We once kicked out some drug dealers in our small town. We just all showed up and spoke at the city hall.

Hear, hear, Tom M.! Well said and an excellent point. (those end bold, etc. tags are a PAIN, huh? — I do that far more than I should, given my experience level, grr (shrug — smile))
Tom M.!! Oh, man — that was hilarious, huh? You and I posting almost simultaneously — lol, no I am not saying “hear hear” about MY comment (just to be clear, here)! lololol
THANK YOU for the kind and very generous compliment!

Hacked web site excuse: They went full Wiener. Never go full Wiener.
How do you go “half weiner?”
I’ve been accused of being half-assed. Is that similar?
I don’t even want to know.
I like to think that some clever trickster at Stott Outdoor Advertising pulled a fast one on Rouse and Revolt(ing) Clothiers: taking R&R’s design and changing the color of Trump’s jacket to … green?
In any case it might be useful to point out this little detail. And for some additional amusement let us consider the 17 year old who buys that T-shirt thinking it’s really cool until he/she gets pulled over on one of Jerry Brown’s pot holed freeways doing 80mph in mom’s Lexus.
Or, for even greater amusement let us imagine R&R calling the police to respond to a shoplifting: “Um, officer, uh, um … a bunch of, um, those T-shirts were stolen.
In case I don’t “see” you closer to the day, Tom J.,
Happy Halloween to you too Janice. And, if you encounter any Zombies do like I do … RUN! 🙂
If you do encounter true zombies, or an oncoming zombie hord, be sure you have one of these
Bryan, Is it good for taking down squirrels?
Take out a squirrel at 1/2 mile
Of course it costs $15,000 – $17,000 a piece depending on if you get the glasses or not.
I’m waiting for the Pistol version.
I was thinking along similar lines that some real Americans should walk into the store with T-shirts that make it clear that they are concealed carriers and they should just trash the place and piss on the shirts and see if the store owners want to call the police. Apparently that’s what antifa in California considers free speech
Nicolle picked her poison and now she doesn’t understand why people do not like what she posted on the billboard. This was not about her store, she is just an activist. Listen to her on her Facebook She plays, Oh my, why are people so unhappy. Don’t play the victim Nicolle, Your clothes depicts that you want Cops Dead as your clothes depicts, this is you stating your hate against our Police. Play dumb (as you are) and act you do not understand why people in Chico want you gone, you are pathetic and your own Karma will put you out of businesses.

This article about the Hate store is hilarious!

The owner is not fairing too well after she put her ignorance up on the advertising sign.
“According to Newsweek,
Rouse & Revolt owner Nicholle [Haber] told Newsweek that she didn’t sleep much last night. Her phone wouldn’t stop going off with the persistent buzzing of death threats for her sign, which stylizes the number 45 into a swastika and features Trump posed in a Hitler-esque stance.
“I’m living in a small, podunk red town and I’m already getting death threats,” said [Haber], whose store is in right-leaning Chico, population 90,000. “My business has completely floundered. Overnight I had more one-star reviews than all the reviews I’ve received in a year.”

Welcome home Anthony.
The global immigration problem has reached epic proportions.
The rise of the Right-Wing in Europe was already occurring before President Trump took office.
The Liberal Left thinks that western countries can accommodate all of them (migrants). And that their should be open borders.
Europe has been taking in immigrants from the middle east and n. africa for years and years and recently have been pummeled by several million that walked up the Balkan route, including terrorlsts, posing as refugees.
Terror groups promote mass migration through terror. These groups use drug trafficking (multi billion yr. industry) to subvert those nations they refer to as crusaders.
Terror groups also traffic in human smuggling and slavery. Terror groups work with Mexican and S. American cartels to pull it off coming through our open southern border.
Based on our Southwest demographics over the last 50 years, who are your voters now. What do they promote? In the long run, they are creating ‘here’ the same thing, that they had left behind in the first place.
And if that is not enough the last tunnel found recently had 20 some chinese nationals found in it…
The Right Wing AFD in Germany when called neo nazi now call those Left Wing liberals Stasi (communist police).
I could go on and on.
This is what happens when sane people ignore loonies, thinking they are just silly. The loonies are now in control of the media.
“The advertisement, paid for by local clothing store Rouse & Revolt,,,,,” It is revolting message for sure but I do believe in our Constitution. I vote with my dollar not to buy anything from that store which is also a freedom of speech.
Color diversity, political congruence, a-bortion rites, social justice adventures, and the “Jews” didn’t build it.
Neo-National Socialists, indeed. A left-wing group in their time and progressive.
Perhaps a form of MAD would curb their appetites. Specifically, brand destruction, be it progressive, liberal, conservative, libertarian, or whatever. Principles matter.
I think he looks and acts a little more like Mussolini, but the alarmists might not know who that was, or be able to make the mental leap. Everybody gets Hitler.
Obama fit Mussolini profile, much more than Trump.
California becomes ‘sanctuary state’ in rebuke of Trump immigration policy
In Depth Los Angeles Times 8h ago
Well I guess Jerry Brown is off the hook…..Not hard to cross the border now….
I guess we are going to have to wall off California, too.
California should be made to pay for this wall, just like Mexico is going to pay for its section.
So, when caught, they are a bunch of liars, on top of everything else.
If liberals freaked when bloggers compared the Obamas to monkeys, why would they think it’s OK to compare Trump to Hitler? “Because he is” is not a valid answer. I’m tired of being labeled a white nationalist by people who show no compunction over trivializing Jews or the Holocaust, especially if the only difference between myself and them is an opinion (which, like assholes, everyone has.)
A very good example of very bad taste. Or just one way of claiming freedom of hate speech?
I’ve been a regular reader here for more than 10 years now, for the science and the insightful comments. But it’s quite shocking to see so many defend the orange anus that is the dimwit Trump. There are more than two sides to politics, just because you don’t like “those people” doesn’t mean you need to support “that group”. Or one specific sociopath.
/European
Troed Sångberg October 6, 2017 at 12:37 am
Speaking of sociopaths you would have preferred Hillary Clinton (ask the people of Haiti)? An interesting thought with the case against Ahmed Abu Khattala in progress. We have Jeremy Corbyn (friend of Hamas, IRA etc.) as our alternative here, that’s pretty frightening too. Back to the climate theme I’d vote for his brother Piers any day in preference (he got nearly all the brains for a start).
My comment on the US election at the time was that Trump would be bad for the US, Hillary would be bad for the world. As I said, there are more than two sides to politics. The biggest problem in the US seems, from an outside, to be that you’re either with “that team” or “the other team” – and readily adopt whatever viewpoints that goes with that group.
There are seven parties in the Swedish parliament and I don’t identify with any of them. And that’s ok. Come election time I go with the one closest to my views at the time – or another party that’s not represented yet.
Good luck in Sweden, almost my entire knowledge of that beautiful country comes from Kurt Wallander and driving Saabs (and Sabb boat engines and Primus stoves!).
Troed Sångberg. Characterising someone isn’t the same as characterising their actions.
/Another European
I love it when left wingers declare that proof of stupidity is disagreeing with them.
Your posts paints you as more of a sociopath than you believe Trump to be.
I’m not sure you know what “sociopath” means in psychology.
(Btw, I’m not “left wing”. I do believe you proved my point about “either _this_ team or _that_ team” with that comment though)
Sociopath means the same thing as when you used it earlier.
As to you not being left wing, I have no doubt that you actually believe that.
Then again in Europe, socialists are considered conservative.
Trump and Scott Pruitt are trying to save the planet – from the CAGW hoax. “The enemy of my enemy is my friend.” That’s all you need to know, Troed.
This has no connection with climate or climate science and I am dismayed to see it on this site.
[Ed, See here’s the thing, and there’s really no way of getting around this – I don’t care what you think. When you get your own site, you can run it as you see fit. In the meantime, tough noogies. – Anthony Watts]
Griff
We are all constantly dismayed to see you here as you bring nothing meaningful to any discussion.
A bit unfair, usually good for a laugh.
Griff makes an excellent straight man.
I see Griff more like Edgar Bergen’s dummy “Mortimer Snerd”. He sits on Peter Wadhams’ lap and regurgitates twaddle about catastrophic sea ice loss and the imminent end of days.
Griff most of what you post has no connection to real science and we are dismayed to see it on this site. But the Host allows it as he sees fit.
Griff, how did you miss the very first paragraph of the post?
“NOTE: This isn’t the normal fare for WUWT, but it has happened in my town, and this website is still connected to the local newspaper, the Chico Enterprise Record, where it got it’s start, so I’m covering it.”
You look foolish once again.
Has he ever not looked foolish?
Have you apologised to Dr. Crockford for your malicious attempt to damage her credibility yet, Skanky?
Don’t you think you ought to?
(Stop harassing him,get back to debating the topic and comments) MOD
Difficult to see how you can call someone who has out-witted the entire political establishment a dimwit – the rest is just unnecessary.
Can I remind everyone to join my campaign to replace the term “stereotype” with the correct term “monotype”.
Agree, the wailing of the ‘Remoaners/Remainiacs/Remnants’) is a similar phenomenon I think. We are accused of being senile with no stake in the future as if our grandchildren (on whom massive debt is being piled) were not enough. Another interesting phenomenon is the number of European leaders who are childless.
Probably some sort of corollary to Godwin’s law to quote Orwell but this is pretty relevant so here goes (‘Tribune’ 1944).
‘It will be seen that, as used, the word ‘Fascism’ is almost entirely meaningless. In conversation, of course, it is used even more wildly than in print. I have heard it applied to farmers, shopkeepers, Social Credit, corporal punishment, fox-hunting, bull-fighting, the 1922 Committee [a Tory group], the 1941 Committee [a left-liberal group], Kipling, Gandhi, Chiang Kai-Shek, homosexuality, Priestley’s broadcasts, Youth Hostels, astrology, women, dogs and I do not know what else.’
Fascist has come to mean, anyone I don’t like.
Self-righteous haters of the worst kind. The political environment has brought forth the Emerged Left, similar to the period in the first third of the 20th century where hatred and violence replaced vigorous political debates. It’s what carried group after group of left wing fascist to power that swept through Europe and is now attempting the same here.
When events like the Las Vegas shooting happen the first reaction by the Left is to go after guns as if guns were the problem. The real problem is the society we now live in, created mostly over the last 8 years by the Left themselves. The glorification of violence is the foundation of why things like this happen. When we are constantly bombarded by graphic violence in the news, on line, in the movies and in games that are played it becomes an acceptable way to deal with your own frustrations. When people are allowed threaten the life of the President without repercussion, when people are allowed to endorse violence on someone they disagree with without repercussion, when people express happiness about some other persons tragedy we end up with a society that we see today. In such a society unstable people will turn to violence as they see it as a legitimate way to deal with their problems. Changing our society to a more tolerant, respectful one starts with politicians. They are in the public eye and should be leaders in how to act. As a civilized people we should no longer accept or allow politicians to act in a derogatory way towards another person or idea. Mutual respect while disagreeing needs to be the ideal we get back to.
For quite some time, the people of the world have grown political ears, when a politician speaks it is normally what we want to hear ( otherwise why listen ?) it may be interpreted 50 different ways by 50 people but that is modern polspeek ! ( Good bullgreen )
For the first time in decades we have a non-politician who’s name is spoken somewhere in the world every second 25 hours a day !
The problem is that the ears cannot understand normspeek! (50 people interpret it 50 different ways )
You know the tree by its fruit. An oldie but a goodie.
In case you are not aware, the ’45’ that looks like a sw.asti.ca, is supposed to represent the 45th president – ie: Trump.
