Happy Earth Mirth Day

Today is Earth Day, and there will be assorted celebrations with “feelings” all over mother Gaia. Most notably is the March for (or against, depending on your viewpoint) Science.

Josh has his take on it, using inspiration from the Red Team/Blue Team article.

My neighbors and I celebrated earth day here in rural west IL by planting corn in 55F cloudy weather. Yes, it’s GMO and we burned the weeds down with glyphosate instead of plowing them under, so we could prevent erosion and increase our yield. Thank a farmer on earth day.

Drove the motorhome to Zion NP. Why? It is what the wife wanted. Friday night was spent at a nice almost free, first come, no reservation BLM campground. I explained that I could not get reservations at the national park I do not like arriving at such places when I have to find campsite after dark or park at Walmart.
We have not been to Zion in many years, since the boys were little. It was among our favorite out of the way places in southern Utah. Now there is an earth day festival and entrance to the park is free. OMG what a zoo. It was like church on Easter Sunday. No place to park let alone park an RV.
I headed for the campground knowing I could turn around at the dump station using the ploy with the park ranger that I was checking to see if there was cancellation. No! As I was coming back from the dump station, the ranger flagged me down. A spot had opened up. Then a spot opened up for today.
I talked to the park ranger. Apparently someone did a documentary. While everyday is not like earth day, Zion has become very popular. The narrow canyon road has been closed and now free shuttle buses takes folks around. This is perfect for us. While I can take motorhome anyplace a tour bus can go that does not stop the wife from going oh, oh, oh on curves with tour buses going by.

I was too busy burning hydrocarbons on my way to South Carolina in the ol’ SUV (for my 1-2 times/year fishing and R&R trip with Mrs. H.R.) to recall that it was Earth Day.
Maybe I’m guilty of trying to anthropomorphize the trees I saw on the drive down, but they sure looked extremely happy for the CO2 I was providing.
Happy trees! Happy trees! Nothing but happy trees all the way to South Carolina!

Here in the UK, a television channel called Film4 marked Earth Day by showing, inevitably, ‘The Day After Tomorrow’. I pressed the ‘guide’ button at one stage, and noticed that it was described as ‘science fiction’. How true.

More like fantasy.
Science fiction has to make sense.
