President Obama has announced a new initiative to tackle climate change, in the name of helping people with asthma.
According to AP;
Warning of the perils to the planet has gotten the president only so far; polls consistently show the public is skeptical that the steps Obama has taken to curb pollution are worth the cost to the economy. So Obama is aiming to put a spotlight on ways that climate change will have real impacts on the body, like more asthma attacks, allergic reactions, heat-related deaths and injuries from extreme weather.
Obama said spending on health — such as preventing asthma — can save more money than it costs, as well as alleviate pain and suffering.

As an asthma sufferer, I’m personally disgusted that the President is seeking to exploit sympathy for my condition, to further his political climate agenda. Car exhaust and pollution can trigger an asthma attack – but by far the worst trigger for asthma attacks which I encountered was extreme cold. Heat waves cause deaths – but cold is far worse. Death rates soar in winter. The suggestion that milder winters in the future might be a public health threat is absurd.

I was just looking at this UK paper and this line struck me as interesting:
“The incidence of new asthma episodes presenting to general practitioners increased in all ages to a plateau in the mid 1990s and has declined since. During the 1990s, the annual prevalence of new cases of asthma and of treated asthma in general practice showed no major change.”
OMG…..A plateau….starting in the mid nineties.

Beware of environmental fanatics bearing gifts.
Some time ago, California decided that it would be a good idea to add MTBE, a then known carcinogenic, to gasoline. This resulted in many people, myself included, to develop asthma. It also poisoned our local water supply in Santa Monica.
When MTBE was discontinued as an additive, my asthma mysteriously went away.
Had the tobacco industry been responsible, there would have been a spate of lawsuits. However, in this case the environmental movement and the State of California were given a pass.

I would like to point out that while “global warming” causing asthma is a joke, there was a long list of things that “global warming” was supposed to cause and it was on-line. One of the click-able links was “restless leg syndrome”. I don’t think that one can be beat. Period.

Numbers watch for CO2 is a clear demonstration of how billions of dollars of YOUR money will buy the answer the politicians want, so they can tax the very air you breath.
My personnel favorites from numbers watch are the ones in direct contradiction to each others, like “makes frogs bigger”, and “makes frogs smaller.” Buy the way, the number of these papers on attrition to the affects of CAGW, far exceeds those dedicated to the physics of CAGW. Yet these non atmospheric climate scientist”, who know very little about atmospheric physics, likely compose the majority of scientist supporting CAGW.
They simply take the WRONG IPCC model mean, and the IPCC projections of FUTURE harms, and extrapolate from there to claim how the magic molecule will cause billions to die. Cargo Cult Science indeed.

I have some asthma, and as Eric says, extreme cold is the worst enemy — never, ever breath thru your mouth. Humid summers are the best breathing conditions.
This is a lot more simple than many of you think. Here’s the meme. Carbon dioxide is pollution, haven’t you seen the pictures of power plants belching pollution? Air pollution causes asthma, therefore human caused climate change causes asthma.
It doesn’t have to be right, only simple. And believe me, this is the meme going forward.

Uh-oh. White House is entering anti-vaxxer territory already staked out on asthma. Since vaccines are known to initiate a purposeful autoimmune response there is speculation that one of the responses is an increased population with asthma conditions.
Is this just another sign of Obama’s anti-science positions?

Local news story here in Huntsville Al about this. They interviewed a doctor from UAB and he stated that as the world heats up and CO2 rises, pollen will in the air sooner and last longer.
It’s only a matter of time until they said “climate change” causes hangnails. The “climate change” religion has now entered the land of ludicrous.

Asthma and Hay fever are two very different things. I have asthma which is dangerous in the wet and cold but when the spring comes and the pollen is in the air. it is warm and I feel great. Whatever anyone says to try and justify it….The old inhalers were a hundred times better than these weak pissy things that the Ozone claptrap brigade permitted us to have. I hope one day that one of them is lying on the floor gasping for breath and the paramedic comes along and says, ” Sorry mate can’t treat you….might cause 10 to the -300 degrees of global warming.
It’s not just asthma being claimed as a health hazard from climate change.
Premise 1 – environment can negatively impact your health
Premise 2 – climate is part of the environment
Conclusion : Climate change defintely hurts your health
Prognosis : White House efforts to sustain ignorance and stupidity will prove moderately successful, being especially effective with those already stupid and ignorant.

He should know that every point he made in that statement was false. He was simply lying and you can see it in his face.
It is “politics” of course.
But why doe he need to court the far-left-wing right now in the final 2 years of his Presidency while facing a Republican-led congress is beyond me. It makes no sense unless he is running out of legacy-themes to leave for the historians and journalists. Obama – the climate-change President? Obama – the two term failure as bad as Jimmy Carter?
It’s because of the things he still wants to do.
He has to lie and keep his base charged to get his choice as the next prez.
I think he’s already dumped Hillary and is vetting O’Malley.

Bill Illis, I don’t think he’s courting the far left wing so much as he’s spreading misinformation to the unwashed masses. The scares take hold and the inevitable correction goes on the bottom of page 6. Drip. Drip. Drip.
I still find the headline “White House: Climate Change causes more Asthma” jarring. The White House is making political policy based on his own medical pronouncements (based on talking points and lies) ? That’s a higher level of political hubris than you could have expected from any of his predecessors except Joseph Stalin and Mao.
Below zero weather can be fatal for anyone with asthma. My elderly family member who has this condition didn’t go out at all during February/March due to sub freezing weather.

Wheat causes asthma it used to be called baker’s wheeze in the 18th century. I have one friend whose daughter was on so many steroids her bones were brittle and she was going to the ER weekly for years. Hasn’t been once since stopping wheat in 2 years.
Asthma has been the all purpose disease for EPA rule making for a long time. It does require some slight of hand to shift cause and effect from other factors to pull that off. No problem for the science form fitters at EPA.
Annual average temperature in Connecticut are what, somewhere around 50F? Annual average temperature in Florida, somewhere around 70F? Why do so many retirees end up in sunny Florida? The difference in the average temperatures of their respective local climates is an order of magnitude greater than the average global change projections for a doubling of CO2. Think about the rampant asthma for goodness sake! Why do we allow anybody to go to Florida at all? The cost in tax dollars must be immense!
It’s the System, man. Or it’s the Man, systematically working to wipe those folk out.
Or maybe warm weather is friendlier to tired old bodies than cold, I don’t know, think that might could have something to do with it…

The President was wrong about everything he said he other day. Every day in every way I get More and more angry. This Delusion( CAGW) promises nothing but more poverty, sickness and death
Great example of how political pressure can be applied to science. This statement of the President’s will fund numerous implausible studies. They’ll all be robust none will be rigorous.
I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating. If obama can successfully claim in the msm that he has proof that climate change is causing people to die, then they can try to pass more anti-fossil fuel legislation. IF we can stop this lie, here and now, in the msm, then we can gain support in stopping the left’s desire for CO2 legislation.
This is the Big Lie and it needs to be confronted on the national stage. Any thoughts on who can pull this off?
