While the WUWT counter number on the right sidebar will likely hit this mark while I’m sleeping, I just wanted to give a short notice to everyone that we’ve reached this milestone. This post is automatically publishing at a time that is my “best safe guess” (4AM PDT) for when we’ll have reached that number. If it hasn’t yet, it soon will. For those who might have been refreshing the page to see if you can capture it at 200 million, you won’t; the counter display only updates every 15 minutes to save resources, and doesn’t update in real time, though it does track every “hit” (but does not count reloads).
I wish to thank everyone who has helped make this possible, the readers, the contributors, the moderators, and most importantly my long suffering family who has dealt with dad being distracted in his study far more than he should be.
For all of my detractors, who send hate mail, publish snide attack pieces, have attempted to dig through my trash, shouted “denier” in my ear on the telephone (and then hung up like the cowards they are), launched Twitter attacks, claimed I “have sex with farm animals” (thanks Mike Roddy), or ruminated rants from their parent’s basement, I thank you too. Because love it or hate it, you all read WUWT anyway and are part of the success.
My sincere thanks to all of you for making WUWT “…the world’s most viewed climate website” – Anthony Watts
P.S. The recent site upgrades I have made have resulted in significant increases in views – thanks to everyone who made suggestions for improvements and for being patient while we worked out the kinks in the new format.
P.P.S The next big thing here will be announced in a couple of days, watch for it.

Anthony, and the whole gang at WUWT, CONGRATS. You guys and gals are THE voice of reason in the whole global warming scam. Thank you for having a GREAT site.
congratulations , a well deserved reward for all the hard work you put into the site and the huge effort in sorting the wheat from the chaff in the climate debate.
Congratulations Anthony. Just a great job.
“P.P.S The next big thing here will be announced in a couple of days, watch for it.”
Seriously??
Following today’s announcement by Apple, this can only mean one thing: The WUWT planet-saving CO2-powered bio-watch!!!
Correction: WUWT plant-saving CO2-generating bio-watch!
200,112,394 views now – gonna hit 250,000,000 sooner than expected.
Congrats from (a sunny, warm – for now) down underer.
See below; projects to about the end of 2015 at the moment.
Congratulations to Anthony and team. You’ve made a difference. Thanks, Mike
Well done Anthony. I couldn’t go a single day without my wattsupwithat fix. Thank you from here in the Australian tropics….Cairns.
WUWT actually looks pretty good – and it’s all thanks to our huge whinge binge about the font, and our whining and complaining about the top graphic! (; Just messing with you all. Thank you for a wonderful 5 years.
Our island of sanity, in the confused seas.
From Rick Werme’s timing list:
Time per 50,000,000 views – to the nearest month.
3 yrs, 7 months
1 yr, 6 months
1 yr, 3 months
1 yr, 5 months
I mentally figured that out and nearly commented in a reply to someone who referred to exponential growth. However, Alexa seemed interested in giving me the site rank over the last year, so I passed. IIRC, WUWT grew exponentially once it settled into its climate skeptic focus, and flattened out for a while. After a big spike for Climategate, WUWT’s rank stayed significantly higher. I think Climategate brought a huge increase in climate skepticism and likely is a significant part in the public’s lost of concern over climates change. (Of course, failure to meet the doomsday scenarios must be the major reason.)
Ideally, WUWT readership will decline over time as more people and more news media realize it just isn’t happening. Then maybe it will pick back up as we enter a new Maunder Minimum if that brings a new Little Ice Age. 🙂
It looks like the new continuous lengthening home page is bringing more views to older posts and has produced a new step up in the view rate. It will be interesting to see how that settles out.
Who was the first person to comment on WUWT on day one?
The first post was http://wattsupwiththat.com/2006/11/17/welcome-to-watts-up-with-that/ . The first comment was the next day, so no one commented on day one. While there was a post on the 18th, it’s first comment was on the 20th.
See http://home.comcast.net/~ewerme/wuwt/toc_2006_11.html for more about that calendar month.
Ric Werme,
That was nostalgic and great info.
John
Congratulations on a great site and the wonderful effort of being polite and constructive in debate.
Congratulations! I hope that WUWT will soon join the ‘billionaire’s club of views’.
If WUWT wasn’t worth it, we wouldn’t keep coming. 200 million views speaks for itself.
Beauty bonzer, Anthony – all the way from Down Under.
Like many other commenters above, may I send sincere congratulations (both to yourself and the Mods) on reaching the 200 million count. This is a tremendous achievement, which I am sure represents many years’ hard work (perhaps should I say daily grind!) in establishing what is now the go-to “Team B” forum for alternative views and arguments to the climate science GAGW “consensus view” (whatever this actually means), so widely reflected in the political arena as well. All this – and a lot of plain good sense and humour too!
I sent through a modest donation earlier today – please accept with my grateful thanks for the truly invaluable (and worldwide) resource that WUWT has become. And I am sure we all hope to hear from you soon as to your forthcoming visit to this side of the pond …
Oh Well done you. Thanks for all the info. Keep up the good work.
Great effort. I remember when it hit the 1 million total! Much has changed since then.
Well done Anthony.
Hey! I just realized that during WUWT’s existence, no major hurricane has hit the United States.
Is there any limit to the power and influence of WUWT?
Ric Werme,
Last one was Katrina that hit New Orleans in 2005.
John
Actually no, Hurricane Wilma just after Katrina was the last major hurricane to hit the USA.

That is what Pielke Jr. is basing his hurricane drought record on.

Anthony,
I appreciate the quick correction.
John
We know about the Gore effect. Would this be the Anthony effect?
Equivalent to Industrial Strength can of Whoop-a$$
Thank You and Congratulations, Anthony. You have earned every bit of it. I say to my husband… “If we get truly angry and depressed about climate change propaganda being pushed by rotten lying academics and politicians, how must people like Anthony and Joanne feel?”

“Upper right, just below the Search box.”

Thank you Brian, ….. but, ….. not on my monitor …. via this url: http://wattsupwiththat.com/
Ever since the “update”, ….. no “sidebar” data …. or said counter is visible to me.
But I did find it, ….. at the lower-left bottom of this page …. below the “Leave A Reply” text box.
So, the server software must insert it at the bottom of each “article” page, also.
Congratulations. WUWT is neither 1:1000 nor 1:1,000,000, but 1:All. Thanks for every minute.
I nominate Anthony to be first recipient of the soon-to-be-created ‘John Paul Jones Award’!
As I write this there are now over a quarter of a million additional views 200,251,411) on WUWT.
Are we coming out from the woodwork in mass as an army of ones? You better believe it!
Always a great site to visit for a bit of sanity. Appreciate all the effort and sacrifice to present the volumes of interesting articles. Sincerely, Congratulations to everyone involved. Onwards and upwards.,
Anthony,
Congratulations to you and your crew! Been hanging out here just about every day since I discovered WUWT after Climategate 1.0.
And when I first got here, I didn’t really know the topology of Skeptic Blog Land at all, but I remember thinking to myself, “this must be the work of a very dedicated grad student” because my first impression was a blog powered by youthful enthusiasm for science and truth, and just a vivacious, freshness. I was surprised, delighted, and I have been coming back ever since.
Keep it up!
