Quotes of the Week: 'Light bulb moment' for CNN chief – Pat Sajak goes nuclear

qotw_croppedI think the light bulb may have gone on with this guy. From TalkingPointsMemo:

In addition to being mocked for its breathless coverage of Flight 370, CNN has also been under fire for the way it has covered climate change. Zucker on Monday defended the network’s approach to the issue.

“Climate change is one of those stories that deserves more attention, that we all talk about,” he said, “but we haven’t figured out how to engage the audience in that story in a meaningful way. When we do do those stories, there does tend to be a tremendous amount of lack of interest on the audience’s part.”

Translation: Nobody cares. ZZZZzzzz.

In other news…

Game show host Pat Sajak caused a major uproar in social media circles on Tuesday, writing on Twitter Monday night that “global warming alarmists are unpatriotic racists knowingly misleading for their own ends.”

That’s unfortunate. A number of global warming alarmists I know are in fact patriotic and not racists, but they are severely misguided in their belief system.

But, I laughed at this one from Sajak:

Obviously the point goes both ways, but in this instance we’re talking once again about some liberals declaring war on some group of humanity, and deciding it’s not sending the right message so it’ll need to be aborted because “the intelligent ones decided and the scientific issues about you”
are settled.

light bulb moment in the UK for Local Government Secretary, Eric Pickles
19 May: UK Telegraph: Matthew Holehouse: Eric Pickles, minister for darkness, overruled on street lights
Police order streetlights in Essex back on after crime wave, after Pickles claimed darkness deters burglars
Eric Pickles faces embarrassment after police ordered street lights to be switched back on in his constituency, weeks after he insisted darkening streets cuts crime…
It comes weeks after Mr Pickles, the Communities Secretary, said he “loves” having street lights turned off and claimed the darkness deters burglars because they like “ambient light”.
Two thirds of councils have dimmed or switched off street lights in order to save money…
Mr Pickles last month defended the policy to angered Conservative councillors in nearby Basildon, saying the council had been “immensely brave”.
“In a time when we are on the cusp with regards to our electricity supply, we can’t have lights burning all night on the off chance someone wants to get out and do aerobics at 3am.
“I love it because I am economy-minded. It’s saving a phenomenal amount of money, it’s decreased crime because burglars love ambient lighting, it’s nice to see the night sky and, as someone who lives in a main street that has had its lights cut off, I can get a good night’s sleep,” he said…

I think Sajak is just using one of those modern day memes so many millennial’s use today in normal conversation. “That’s so racist”, I hear that all day long among my younger colleagues and it’s usually followed by laughter.

Pat was doing satire; yanking their chain… and it worked.

Hi – I’m sorry if this has been covered earlier.
I’m supposed to be working so didn’t have time to read all the posts and frankly I’d better get back to it.
Pat Sajaks tweet was a jab at a ridiculous tweet he’d received or read that claimed something like “climate deniers are baby killers etc etc”.
It was not representing his genuine opinions just demonstrating how bloody stupid climate alarmist activists can be in their rhetoric.
Its a surprise so many on this brilliant site fell for it and thought for one moment it was anything but a skewering of the tactics of the lunatic fringe of the alarmist fraternity.
Come on guys (and gals) that’s not ‘our’ sides MO is it???

Unpatriotic and racist spring from the same well: willingness, even eagerness, to sacrifice those who put non-Fabian interests first. The 3rd world is considered disposable, as is the bulk of the planet’s population. Which is, coincidentally, non-white (and non-liberal).
