Friday Funny – Licking the Gore effect

I’m sure many readers have seen the movie that is now a holiday classic called A Christmas Story. There is a scene in that movie where the character Flick, acting on a “triple-dog dare”, gets his tongue stuck to a sub freezing flagpole.

Flick

Leave it to Investors Business Daily to render this famous scene with the essence of Gore:

Since the Met Office announced that global warming was behind a continuous series of Atlantic storms hitting the UK, the weather has turned for the better and it’s rather dry and warm.

I keep wondering when RFK Jr. will publish another piece in the L.A. Times describing the unbroken string of winters with continually perfect sledding conditions that he remembers experiencing growing up in Washington, D.C. in the 1960s. Human memory is as fallible, if not more, surrounding weather as it is on any subject. Gore, too, has told us more than once that he has “noticed” changes on his farm as the Earth has hotted up so frighteningly. One change down there on his Tennessee homestead I’m sure about: You can now stream “Dumb and Dumber” on Netflix.

Why stream when it’s reality?

Funny cartoon!
On a related note, we just broke an “all time” record low for this date in my locale in western New Hampshire: -13F this morning (previous record -11 F set back in 1926).
I’m sure many cold temperature records were broken in the region this morning.

Harold what you are describing is the narcissistic babyboomer effect. There is no other point of reference. The universe began sometime around 1948.

Uh, I don’t think it is Gore’s tongue that is on the “global warming ice pole”.
Perhaps it is that which makes him the “butt” of our humor?
Just an observation.
🙂

On a more serious note:
“There is a scene in that movie where the character Flick, acting on a “triple-dog dare”, gets his tongue stuck to a sub freezing flagpole.”
Sadly, as the globe warms, just as kids will no longer see snow, so too will this be a thing of the past.

Yes, it will be hard to find a school with a flag pole.

a) Toronto almost broke another cold record yesterday
b) the difference was 2/10ths of a degree
c) anyone who tells me that 2/10ths of a degree can be measured by any sort of memory or anecdotal evidence should be made to stand out in the cold while we “lower” the temperature by 2/10ths of a degree. And that’s centigrade…

Proverbs 6:16-19 ESV
There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.
Proverbs 12:19 ESV
Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

Thou shalt get caught by your own lying tongue.

Here’s a funny cartoon of Gore in a straitjacket:

According to Warmology physiks, the heat in that flagpole is there, but has simply traveled to the inside.

Well-chosen words, Pamela. That is hilarious!
We will be facing (again) -30 C wind chill in a couple of days. We had to dig out 10″ of drifting global warming from the drive and sidewalk again this week at -18 C. The neighbourhood is fed up. We can’t even see properly to get out of the driveway.

“As the global temperature plummets bitterly cold winters will become the norm.”
While the UAH global temp does have a negative slope for the last five years I thought I would have a little fun and phrase it the way an alarmist might.

I “triple-dog dare” Al Gore to revise his ‘Inconvenient Truth’ without the refuted Mann (and successors) input to the hockey stick graph and with thriving polar bears populations. Oh, and a balanced discussion of the current ~17 years of non-warming. And don’t forget to truthfully show the failed GCMs (models)) sponsored by the IPCC. And don’t forget observation based TCR and ECS estimates trending downward out the ‘catastrophic zone’ and well into the ‘beneficial zone’.
He can easily include skeptical thinker appearances in the revised version, that were totally absent from the original IT.
Al Gore, come on . . . “triple-dog dare” . . . . hey, revising to correct and admit mistakes is the scientific thing to do. Hell, you might even invite an actual debate . . . . .
Then, Hansen’s exaggerated game will be over.

I have found the MET to be really reliable for weather now.
Just expect the opposite of any forecast/casting of the Runes and you won’t go wrong.

Waterloo sets new all time record for this date (yesterday)
-19.4 v.s. the 1926 record of -18.6 degrees C.
Colder weather coming in two days.

Where is Al Gore by the way? he’s gone all quiet a bit like Michael Mann, maybe they’re stuck in ice somewhere.

In other comedic takedowns of politicians, Dennis Miller rants about Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) after the Senate pajama party: “But simply, her secret service name is ‘polar vortex,’ alright? She is an idiot. She is bat guano crazy.”

@Anthony; @MODS Do not Post
Re the label under “Unreliable” websites – John Cook
I have achieved some success/discipline dealing with the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves (GACC) which is tied up with the EPA and who-knows-what-else at the White House with a complaint last January (2013) about them making:
“…anonymous, undocumented, changes to their test methods”
and uploading the new version to their website using the same version number as the previous one. The wording is appropriate for the publishing industry.
I am suggesting that the footnote be edited to read:
“Due to (1) the deletion, anonymous editing, extension and amending of posted user comments and (2) anonymous, undocumented post-publication revisions of article contents after significant user commenting.”
I understand that it was indeed posted comments that were later edited. That is culpability in extremis and the site should be shunned for commenting.
