People send me stuff. Here’s a press release from a PR firm that I really don’t understand. Why are LGBTQ activists joining in a climate protest against Google? The only reason I can think of is that based on their past performance, “Forecast the Facts” couldn’t find enough warm bodies to hold a protest. I had to laugh at the tagline.

TUESDAY: Google Faces Protests Over ALEC Ties
Progressives to Google: Don’t Be Evil, Stop Funding Right Wing Extremists
Mountain View, CA — Today, dozens of climate and LGBTQ activists will protest outside of Google HQ to demand the tech giant cut ties with the extreme right wing American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). ALEC is one of the most notorious and influential peddlers of climate denial in the country.
What: Rally against Google funding climate denial and right wing-extremism in the form of ALEC
Who: Dozens of climate and LGBTQ rights activists. The event and campaign are being organized by Forecast the Facts, Courage Campaign, and SierraRise.
Where: Google Headquarters, 1600 Amphitheater Parkway. Mountain View, CA 94043
When: 2:30pm Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014
Visuals: Dozens of people with a 3’x8′ banner reading “Google: Don’t Fund Evil” and signs with the same message.
Right now, state legislatures in Arizona, Oklahoma, and Colorado are considering bills developed by ALEC to force public schools to teach children climate denial.

Forecast the Facts is a membership organization that seeks to ensure that Americans receive accurate information about climate change from the media, politicians, and corporations.

I had to laugh at the tagline, because as we all know, former Climate Progress writer and now “Forecast the Facts” activist in charge Brad Johnson is all about “accuracy”:

This is a strange affair. Perhaps, when a cause has been achieved, the campaigning organisation must adapt or die. So the LGBTQ agenda may now be complete.
Or maybe there is a link between homosexuality and the climate. The minor British political party UKIP thinks so.
These guys and UKIP seem to have something in common.
Is the bbc impartially showing you a general view shared by the UKIP party?
Or do they want you to think that this is the shared UKIP view?
I have nothing to do with neither, bbc, UKIP or Englad what so ever, but who is that councillor who “defected from the Tories to UKIP” and why is his view representative for the UKIP?
What does a UKIP spokeperson say?
“A UKIP spokeswoman said: “It is quite evident that this is not the party’s belief but the councillor’s own and he is more than entitled to express independent thought despite whether or not other people may deem it standard or correct.””
So it is obvious BS, question is if you cannot see it? Or you don’t want?
Malc- you had better begin bringing this issue up amongst your associates. The Marxists do not like our current society; they believe that a variety of oppressive power relationships are the tool of societal control by the evil capitalists.
They look for any possibly identifiable group in society with a claim of injustice, get involved in the group, and begin to hijack the group’s otherwise legitimate grievances.
This has been going on with the same-sex community for decades. The Marxists have this in their writings going back nearly 100 years. Along with seeking to foment division in society between “gay” and “straight,” they long ago identified big business versus the environment the rest of us must rely on, Big Business versus workers, those evil Jews versus the manufactured ethnicity known as the Palestinians, Black versus white issues, feminism, etc.
The Marxists paint a picture of a monolithic “bad guy.” Everyone else in society is supposedly oppressed. It reminds me of the various constituencies in the Lord of the Rings stories banding together against the evil forces. This is how the Marxists want us all to think.
Each of these issues is a legitimate societal issue. Each person ought to have the right to live a life of full opportunity, etc., etc.
The Marxists don’t care about that. They want to foment division in society so that the eventual Communist Revolution will come more quickly. Wherever they have gained control, they have turned on their coalition and cut down all but the true believers. In Russia, the Bolsheviks even did this to the Mensheviks. We often hear the term “Bolsheviks” thrown around, but knowledge of this early conflict in Russia’s revolution is not that well-known. You can google or Wikipedia this.
Frankly, this really weakens the sympathy for any genuine LGBT concerns among the general populace. Most of us are fine with a same-sex person being able to carry on with a personal love life, and participate normally in society. An open, accepting society is fine. This is not good enough for the Marxists. Each of us “heteronormative” “breeders” is an “oppressor.” Hearing that we are all “oppressively heterosexist” and full of hate is not winning any points; the opportunity to have legitimate grievances heard, and have real solutions happen, wanes.
Why are the Marxists trying to hijack LGBT political action? That is what they do.
Marxists. Making useful idiots out of people with legitimate grievances for over 100 years.
Like Rush Limbaugh always says, coming from the radical left, it is NEVER the veracity of evidence (if any at all) … it’s seriousness of the charge.
Two things jump out at me – the use of “evil” and and the term “polluting the climate.” This has truly become a religious matter, stepping up “denial-ism” to “demon-ism.” As far as “polluting the climate,” that doesn’t make a lick of sense…unless “climate pollution” is the next “term de jour” to be properly used when referring to what used to be called weather…..
PS – And what’s a protest without a few Raging Grannies…or is that Trannies? (No offence meant…but given the wide participation the rhyming is just too comedic under the circumstances) http://inagist.com/all/435827163795693569/
Geez, Eric, they’re international? Funded by Tides maybe?

It looks to me as if the question being asked was ‘what (not “who”) is at the heart, core … of activism of this sort’.
The answer might (odds-on favorite) should have been more along the lines of “… the yearning in man’s heart and soul to make a difference, as opposed to being just another nameless, faceless, innocuous, powerless bus rider in this life”.

Oh c’mon, say it like you mean it! “so it’s not like Fox News is MAKING THIS UP!” (as if it’s better that HuffPo makes it up?) The fist time ANY news org flat-out ‘makes it up’ and puts it on the air/on their site ought to be the last time that outlet is ever relied upon for any story!
No, wait …

Wow! Ezra is fearless *and* funny! He had ‘ol David Suzuki and his org recently literally ‘tied up in knots’ by just asking a few innocent questions … coverage and video here:

I too belong to the LBGT community, apparently, and am often incensed at the tendency among more conservative types to tar us all with the same brush. The LBGT community is as broad a ‘church’ as any other random subset of humans singled out using a specific identifier (in this case ‘sexual orientation’).
As a libertarian enjoying a natural affinity with the Rothbardian school, I have developed a very jaundiced view of the entire political spectrum – whether left, right or centre – and see the coopting of my peers to such a non-cause as CAGW as highly divisive. As divisive, in fact, as when I see powerful religious organisations coopting their members to promote the universal enforcement of a particular moral code by bullying policymakers…
That said, there may well be a predominance among my peers that leans to the left. But there is good reason for that tendency. When you have lived from a young age with the strong sense that the conservative – and chiefly religious – environment you find yourself in hates you, it’s not entirely surprising that you develop a greater propensity to wend your way towards the more socially ‘enlightened’ and ‘accepting’ end of the political spectrum.
The more the majority pushes against a given minority, the more the individuals that make up that minority enjoy mutual solidarity and the harder they push back as a cohesive entity (if you’ll forgive my phraseology in this context!). Every force has an equal and opposite force, and all that…
Teaching climate denial??? What does that mean. Denying the climate? Denying that climate exists? I would love to see the course outline for that.
