Missed a close tag after ” Five Basic Antarctica Facts For Climate Change Sceptics.”
Sorry.

@TinyCO2:Some of the penguins have fallen over laughing., could that be us?. And the ones facing away, them?. I also see a few with decidedly drooping shoulders.

The photo as a composite of Josh’s & the Guardian’s work is climate change art in collated format.
It doesn’t matter if you like or don’t like art. Any response to art, either positive or negative, serves the purpose of art.
This art served its purpose well, given the responses on this thread.
I love it!!!

imagine how many CAGW papers were being concocted for 2014 on this expdition?
imagine how many CAGW newspaper headlines were being concocted for 2014 on this expedition?
mock, mock, mock til this lot understand none of the above will now have any credibility, & they should move on to more pressing matters of concern to the planet & the public in science and the media.

Abstract:
Penguins can’t laugh out loud.

I think I vaguely see the captain leaning over the railing up on the bridge of the Akademik Shokalskiy in the distant background. Looks like he is signaling something urgently with his arms.
The message appears to be for the stupid photo op to end (points at them and slashes his arm across throat), get your asses back on board (grabs butt and then points at ship), the ice is closing in (points at ice then makes crushing movement with his hands) . . .
Oh, wait it is a still photo . . . silly imagination

The joke is neither: 1) misleading; nor 2) unfair.
Only someone with an intellectual impairment (drunk?) could truly NOT see that the shopped photo was obviously a joke (and, after all, the original photo is still out there… eye roll). You would have to have the sense of humor of a badger to NOT think that photo was a joke. And you would have to be in a state (temporary, one hopes) of moral equivalency confusion to NOT want to mock as hard as one can those vile, narcissistic, spoiled brats who have put a captain’s and his crew’s lives in danger along with those of many others.
More to the point is:
“Some of the penguins have fallen over laughing.” (Tiny CO2 at 10:12am, today) Yes, lol!
And that is saying a LOT. Want evidence? Watch this poor little dancing penguin trying to get his friends to laugh at him. Do they look amused? No. It takes a LOT to get a penguin to fall over laughing. THUS!, the above cartoon and, moreover, those mocked by it, is super-funny.

(and, (please note that this little note is supposed to be satiric) NO, all you Johnny Dismals, this is not a misleading video: it is OBVIOUS that the little penguin’s actions were edited and, whatever you think of her otherwise, Beyoncé would not be caught within 1,000 miles of that place, so we KNOW she wasn’t there forcing that little guy to dance or else get shot in the head)
***************************************************
No, the peril of those on the sea at this moment, is NOT a laughing matter and that is why scornfully mocking those who placed them in that peril is JUST.

Heh. As for the penguins falling over, they deliberately belly-toboggan to get downslop faster, often launching into the sea off a suitable ice platform. As long as there are no orcas or leopard seals in the landing zone.
My tracking of the AA shows it headed east at about 15 knots in a long (several hundred-mile?) coastal polyana to get to thin ice where it can get to open ocean, closer to the Xue Long, which is making about 0.1 knots far inside the icepack. The AS no longer shows on http://www.marinetraffic.com Live Ships maps. The last listed location is NZ, Dec. 8.

Well, that’s a new tactic. Copying the Guardian’s Komment Macht Frei censor message on skeptics blogs in the hope of awakening the impression that skeptics run a comment extermination camp like the leftists at the Guardian. Don’t think it’ll work though. But all else has failed, why not try this, hmm?

Dirk (and others who may have mis-understood CheshireRed’s comment)
As somebody who doesn’t even receive the Guardians infamous “This comment was removed …..” (I’m in permanent moderation for disagreeing with Dana and posting links to on topic real papers), CR’s comment is spot on and one of the funniest comments I’ve seen on WUWT
Well done CR 🙂

Guardian is way off itself in the fourth of its “facts”
Contrary to some of the more outlandish claims made by climate change deniers, the ship was not suddenly enveloped by ice due to rapidly plummeting temperatures. It was pinned by ice carved off from the Mertz glacier, a well-established ice formation.
If that was true the ice around Shokalskiy would consist of icebergs and/or growlers and bergy bits. It does not, it is just ordinary, though thick sea-ice as anyone who has the slightest experience of arctic conditions can see, Ever tried to stamp out a helipad on a growler, anyone?

Mango Chutney.
Cheers for that. (I’m also on pre-mod at The Guardian too. They won’t allow ANY comment of mine on the environment section. Comment is Free my eye.)
Glad you enjoyed it.

I know these parodies have been over-done now, but this is a particularly clever and very funny one:

Dear Misunderstood Cheshire Red,
Yes, indeed, a clever quip — thanks for the laugh. It was easily misunderstood, however, due to there being no indication that it was a quote (either ” ” marks or italics). For instance, “Comment Is Free,” (ahem). Just a word to the (obviously) wise.

Humor is dangerous stuff. There is always the danger you will offend someone. However did you ever notice, when you were a kid, that the more someone was outraged by your laughter the harder it was not to laugh?

It is sad, but true, that many people on both sides of the debate have no sense of humour. It’s a genetic defect that they just have to endure.
Janice, despite you being what I would describe as a God-botherer, you have a great sense of humour and also a very acute mind. We seem to get along. AW’s sense of humour is one of the things that has made this blog so mighty.
One of the redeeming features of the SS Global Warming debacle is that it has provided a rich vein of jokes of all kinds, and it is being keenly felt where it matters.
I have been doing my bit by publicising wherever I can in Australia Green Senator-elect Janet Rice’s video bleat where she wishes she was back home with her trans-gender partner and the chooks (chickens, to non-Aussies).
Everything else is a right-wing plot.

Hi, Johanna,
Thank you, so much, for your kind words and for saying so. I enjoy “talking” with you, here. And my opinion of your intelligence and knowledge is high enough to make your compliment, for me, high praise, indeed.
GOOD FOR YOU to do your bit v. a v. Janet Rice. Poor kid. (head shake) She really needs serious help in many directions, huh?
So, I am a “God-botherer,” eh? Not sure exactly what that means, but, I have a guess… sorry if I’ve tried to ram God down your throat; that is NOT a good thing to do, that is for sure. I’ll try to be more sensitive — it’s just such a natural part of me (not that that is an excuse, simply the reason) that I do it ALL the time. Well, just in case you had an insight I’d overlooked,
*!*!*WARNING TO NON-BELIEVERS – sense of humour mandatory beyond this point*!*!*
I thought I’d better telephone him (sort of like Reb Tevye, “Oh, am I bothering you?….” heh) to see whether I was bothering him too much (what with all my praying for this and praying for that, yadda, yadda). In fact, if you’d like to hear me (wink) – (actually, I do sound like she when I sing jazz songs, so it’s sort of authentic…) — with a little back-up from some brothahs and a sistah …..
“Operator” … long distance… (;))

With love and best wishes for a GREAT 2014,
Your annoying-but-true American ally for science truth,

Janice;
Re your video at http://wattsupwiththat.com/2014/01/03/friday-funny-the-guardian-and-josh-together-at-last/#comment-1524298 , did you notice the AGW nonsense beginning at 19:30 or so? Wotta larf. We’re depriving the Emperors of their sea ice! I wonder if he’s one of Turkey’s buddies.

Hm, blew that link. Meant to refer to another video, showing the penguins using microbubbles. Can’t even find it now!
