Friday Funny – let's get ready for science name calling

Josh writes:

Every other alarmist tweet these days seems to have the ‘D’ word in it – is there something happening soon that they are getting excited about?

“Maybe “they” would stop using the D-word if “we” stopped using the A-word. Let’s pretend just for a minute that we’re all grown-ups here shall we?”

Mike Mellor,
As you suggested, I wholeheartedly agree to stop using the ‘A‘ word.
I, as a skeptic, will endeavor to stop using the word Anthropogenic. I will encourage my associates also.
Now, will you pass the word to the IPCC centric exaggerators of GW to try to stop with the d€ni€r name calling?
Deal?

taking a leaf (or colour) from the Aussie CAGW playbook:
New colour purple depicts worsening climate risks in UN draft report
OSLO, Sept 13 (Reuters) – Some parts of nature and human society are more vulnerable than expected to climate change, according to a draft of a U.N. report that adds a new purple colour to a key diagram to show worsening risks beyond the red used so far…

January: Guardian: Australia adds new colour to temperature maps as heat soars
The temperature forecast for next Monday by Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology is so unprecedented – over 52C – that it has had to add a new colour to the top of its scale, a suitably incandescent purple…

I’m perfectly happy with calling them prostitutes instead.

– – – – – – –
DirkH,
If the GW alarmists are prostitutes it raises a paradoxical question. If they are the prostituters then who are the prostitutees? Not the skeptics. Are the prostituters only doing pseudo-scientific serving of each other?
Hmmmmm

Sorry, Mike, I just can’t see any of the alarmist crowd saying to their pals, “Look, guys, those den- er… I mean those good folk who don’t agree with us are playing fair. They’ve stopped using the A-word, so let’s cut them some slack, let’s not use the D-word anymore.”
Can you see that happening? Really? Can anybody? You don’t seem to realize they are playing for keeps. This is not a game with them. This is not a mistake. This is full-blown winner takes all, lots of loot and control over the masses. They Don’t Play Fair.
If they did, they wouldn’t be manipulating the data, manipulating the message and manipulating the people. They’d lay their cards on the table, talk openly about methods, data, evidence and science, instead of shutting out those who question, shutting down debate, hiding their work, denying the facts and shouting down all and any dissention.
Go tackle them about playing fair.

What I want to know is will the thing be released in electronic format, and if so will the AR5E-Book be a free download.

My thoughts, too. As John Grunsfeld, NASA’s associate administrator for science in Washington said, “Perhaps some future deep space explorers will catch up with Voyager, our first interstellar envoy, and reflect on how this intrepid spacecraft helped enable their journey.”
Inspirational words, indeed.

Don’t forget the IPCC has a great mountain of “could”, “may”,
“might” and “indicates” that they plan to hide behind when the going gets tough.

And when the going gets tough, the tough get groin injuries.

Their johns would be the usual suspects, government officials. They’re the ones paying the prostitutes, after all.

This shouldn’t be funny, but how it’s becoming a tragedy is getting ridiculous.
The news is detailing the flooding in Boulder, Colorado, with breaking dams etc.
Boulder is where the National Snow and Ice Data Center is headquartered. As I mentioned earlier, an inquiry to nsidc.org got a splash page and:

NSIDC is closed today because of severe weather and flooding. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.
Need to talk to us? You can always contact our friendly User Services Office at nsidc@nsidc.org or + 1 303.492.6199.

The page title (top of the browser window) mentioned server maintenance.
The entire domain was parked. Why? Where were the mirror sites? Are the servers located only in Boulder, subject to local disruptions? Where are the off-site backups?
Still the same, but now I’ve found another quirk.
For unknown reasons except possibly pissing off the NSA, Google wants to use a secure connection (https) lately. To check the site just now, I edited the URL, accidentally tried https://www.nsidc.org/
Instead of defaulting to normal connection, I got a “This Connection is Untrusted” warning. What? “Technical Details” says invalid security certificate. And that the certificate is good for a boatload of subdomains at various sites, including seventeen NSIDC subdomains, which inludes nsidc-dot-org.
But somehow they had left out http://www.nsidc-dot-org, THE most common address when punching in the URL direct but as secure.
What happened? Dr. Walt Meier leaves NSIDC and suddenly the clowns have taken over?
You know, if I was a paranoid sort, I’d think “never let a good crisis go to waste”. About when NSIDC has to admit the Arctic sea ice has not evaporated into summer nothingness as predicted, that perhaps the “death spiral” is a spring that has bounced… Suddenly all their official records and all recognized backups may be at risk of destruction, so they won’t have to admit anything?

Huh. Last comment hit moderation, go figure.
But what WordPress did is funny.
I know it likes to convert mentions of web site names into full-blown links, so I carefully spaced out a group-dot-org.
Which WordPress made an URL anyway.
Looks like the trigger was www-dot-group but with an actual dot.
Ah WordPress, so confident you know what a comment writer wants better than the writer does…

Actually, the current (unofficial) continuation of the Whole Earth Catalog is the Cool Tools site, curated by Kevin Kelly, a former chief editor of WEC. I think it’s even better than the original WEC in some ways.

I still prefer the term “cult”. Religions for the most part can’t be dis-proven, cults can.
Even if they don’t admit it themselves.

Having been brought up in Yorkshire where they “say what they think and think what they bloody well say” and now living in “Cockney Land” where an equally forthright political incorrectness rules the day, I don’t think I will be stopping using the “A-word”.
In these areas of the UK, if we think someone is an “Arse” we tell them to their face. ; )

The NSA is changing infrastructure lately. There was a global Google outage; an Amazon outage; several incidents where the NASDAQ went dark in the past weeks. Maybe they’re virtualizing entire sites so that they can switch you over to a Matrix style pretend internet any moment; a kind of “Being John MalkovichCook” alternate universe.
Who still cares for botnets when the American Empire itself is corrupted from the top.

GREAT CARTOON (as usual), JOSH!
Loved Guy-on-the-Left’s hair! LOL, Dana N. obviously forgot to bring a second helmet — again.
On the other hand, could D.N.’s mo-ped go fast enough?….. Hm.
Could be…. Mikey Mann just ran by GOTL in the hallway, racing toward his office to make some last minute changes. WHOOSH!

Dear Mike – whenever I have tried to have a science-based discussion with an AGW follower, and without using any ad hominum words, regardless of the letter of the alphabet, they resort to using the “D” word. I have asked a newspaper columnist what science he based his beliefs on, seriously asking as I may have missed something and without calling him anything, his answer quickely descended into using the “D” word in describing me. My response to him did not contain the “A” word. Play fair? With who?

Which came first? Like trying to make warmth→CO2 causation run backwards, your suggestion is risible.
