When they lie right on the cover, it speaks volumes about the content of the film.
What’s the lie in the cover you ask? I contacted the West Coast press agent to confirm my suspicion.
At first glance, I said to myself “they really wouldn’t be that stupid to make an oil slick for a photo op, would they“? After all, as any boater knows, the US Coast Guard has severe penalties for getting any oil on the water, be it intentionally or accidentally:
The Federal Water Pollution Control Act prohibits the discharge of oil or oily waste into or upon the navigable waters of the United States or the waters of the contiguous zone if such discharge causes a film or sheen upon, or discoloration of, the surface of the water, or causes a sludge or emulsion beneath the surface of the water. Violators are subject to a penalty of $5,000.
I asked the West coast press agent, and got this reply:
I spoke with Craig and This picture was created digitally http://blog.zap2it.com/pop2it/greedy-lying-bastards-review.jpg

I replied:
OK so that picture is fake, which speaks volumes about the content I suppose.
And got this reply in return:
Yes definitely fake-
Thanks!

Well and good to know. It reminds me of the famous Ursus Bogus scandal with Science, where fake digital photography was also used to make a point.
To illustrate its item about scientific facts, Science chose this image of a doomed poley bear:

One small problem.
As James Delingpole reveals, that poley bear image is fake. It’s been photoshopped. Science subsequently admitted:
The image associated with this article was selected by the editors. We did not realize that it was not an original photograph but a collage, and it was a mistake to have used it.
As Science says: “There is always some uncertainty associated with scientific conclusions.”
So just like that episode, Greedy Lying Bastards lies to the viewer right on the cover of the DVD. What a great start. It gets even more interesting, so lazy are the producers and contributors, they use erratum recycled language from 2005:
WUWT reader Russell Cook writes in an email:
=============================================================
Our AGW friends are so lazy as to drop in material from 2005.
From this other page, notice how just a couple of words of substitution turns this farce into a spectacular example of sheer projection: http://www.exposethebastards.com/jim_hoggan_clearing_the_pr_pollution_that_clouds_climate_science
Few PR offences have been so obvious, so successful and so despicable as this attack on the science of climate change. It has been a triumph of disinformation – one of the boldest and most extensive PR campaigns in history, primarily financed by the ̶e̶n̶e̶r̶g̶y̶ ̶i̶n̶d̶u̶s̶t̶r̶y̶ enviro-activists’ benefactors and executed by some of the best PR talent in the world.
And right after that, Hoggan says…
…. Ross Gelbspan, in his books, The Heat is On and Boiling Point sets out the whole case, pointing fingers and naming names. PR Watch founder John Stauber has done similarly exemplary work, tracking the bogus campaigns and linking various pseudo scientists to their energy industry funders. ….
That is lifted verbatim from Hoggan’s 2005 WordPress blog, pre-Desmogblog. As I’ve said so many times, all paths in the smear of skeptics lead to Gelbspan.

Heh. Recycled propaganda.
Apparently I don’t rate as a ‘bastard’. Color me disappointed. The list of heroes is equally funny. On the plus side, at least they weren’t stupid enough to put Peter Gleick on the list. They did however, interview Dr. Pieter Tans.
Pieter Tans, keeper of the CO2 records for Mauna Loa, is a self-declared 911 Truther. Here’s a letter to the editor he co-signed in 2006:
World has lost a true, humble friend
The world has lost a true friend in Gilbert White, winner of the 2000 National Medal of Science, natural resource adviser to FDR, ecologist before the word existed, president of Haverford College, social scientist and much else he was too humble to mention.
Gil was a fearless thinker who supported ideas that were before their time, such as the project at Vote.org and ideas that many ridicule or fear, such as evidence that a few people in our government allowed or caused the 9/11 attacks. He’s the eldest in the Oct. 21, 2004, Boulder Weekly photo with us, attending a 9/11 Truth event, although we weren’t identified — see Boulderweekly.com/archive/102104/coverstory.html. At lunch afterward, he expressed surprise and frustration that the media simply refused to make this an issue in the coming presidential election.
Gil was pretty sure that 9/11 was treason partly because, when he was working in the FDR White House, he witnessed the congratulatory atmosphere there the day of Pearl Harbor. He believed the government had invited the attack to get people’s support to enter World War II, and that something similar happened to get Congress’ (not the people’s) support for the Bush wars.
Gilbert could have been a member of almost any elite, but he preferred non-elitists. He believed in giving power to the people rather than keeping it in the hands of any elite. He hoped that when people learned that the government was complicit in 9/11 that they’d demand the kind of participatory government you can help realize at Vote.org. That’s why we risk accusations of sullying the dead by writing this.
Steven Jones, BYU Physics professor suspended for his work with Physics911.net, and Kevin Ryan, fired from Underwriters Laboratories for speaking out, will speak Oct. 29 from 2 to 6 p.m. in CU’s Math 100, along with the founder of the Muslim-Jewish-Christian Alliance for 9/11 Truth, Kevin Barrett, Ph.D.

And here he is in a photo, he appears to be the one in the middle holding the banner:

I wonder if Dr. Tans has ever heard of the Hatch act?
Watching the trailer and reading the synopsis, it seems to be the same old stuff, skeptics are (take your pick):
In the employ of big oil, recycled tobacco lobbyists, not scientists, ruthlessly greedy industrialists, don’t care about your children or your grandchildren, only out for profit, blah blah, blah.
We’ve heard it all before.
[ UPDATE:
I get this via one of my sources, Paul Dreissen, via email:
In case you don’t recall the name, GLB director Craig Rosebraugh used to be the mouthpiece for Earth Liberation Front and Animal Liberation Front anarchists and terrorists, who liked to brag about their firebombing of homes, cars and research labs. Nick Nichols and I discussed him and his exploits in some depth in Nick’s Rules for Corporate Warriors, pages 46, 47, 50, 217 and 306. He was investigated, and his computer hard drive was searched, but I don’t think the authorities were ever able to link him directly to the terrorists he assisted, and don’t believe he was ever successfully prosecuted.
When called to testify before a congressional committee that was investigating eco-terrorism, he took the Fifth on every question he was asked.
I confirmed this via Wikipedia and the citations here
From 1997 to 2001, Rosebraugh served as a spokesperson for the Earth Liberation Front receiving anonymous communiques from the ELF and forwarding them on to news media internationally. In 1999, Rosebraugh co-formed the North American Earth Liberation Front Press Office (NAELFPO) with Leslie James Pickering, where he continued to forward communiques, conduct international press interviews, and nationwide informational lectures on the ideology of the ELF movement.[10] Between 1997 and 2006, Rosebraugh received eight subpoenas to appear before federal grand juries to discuss his sources, but he has said he has no knowledge of them and refused to cooperate with the proceedings.

Only the weak minded will pay much attention to this movie, but then again, isn’t that the purpose of propaganda? Here is the movie trailer and the producer’s synopisis from the press kit:
“GREEDY LYING BASTARDS” SYNOPSIS
Hurricane Sandy. Wildfires in the West. “Brown-Outs” in the East. Farmers losing crops to the worst drought since the Dust Bowl. Climate change is no longer a prediction for the future, but a startling reality of today. The U.S. Pentagon believes it to be a matter of national and international security. Yet, as the evidence of our changing climate mounts and the scientific consensus proves a human causation, there continues to be no political action to thwart the warming of our planet.
“Greedy Lying Bastards” investigates the reason behind stalled efforts to tackle climate change despite consensus in the scientific community that it is not only a reality but also a growing problem that is placing us on the brink of disaster. The film details the people and organizations casting doubt on climate science and claims that greenhouse gases are not affected by human behavior. Filmmaker and political activist Craig Rosebraugh, in association with Executive Producer Daryl Hannah, documents the impact of an industry that has continually put profits before people, waged a campaign of lies designed to thwart measures to combat climate change, used its clout to minimize infringing regulations and undermined the political process in the U.S. and abroad.
Millions are spent each year by oil and related interests to fund the think tanks, groups, scientists and politicians waging what the film deems a campaign of deceit regarding the science of climate change and its dire impact on the planet. Between 1998 and 2012, “Greedy Lying Bastards” reports ExxonMobil spent over $27 million to dispel claims of global warming. The Koch brothers, who run the conglomerate Koch Industries, also provide significant funding. From 1997 through 2012, they spent over $67 million.
A far different story about climate change is told by the residents of Kivalina, a small Alaskan island above the Arctic Circle. Over the last fifty years, winter temperatures have risen nearly seven degrees and the ice that once protected the land is not forming properly leading to increasing erosion. As one tribal administrator notes: “The debate is over, we are dealing with the realities of climate change.”
“Greedy Lying Bastards” also presents a shocking analysis of the U.S. Supreme Court decision, Citizens United. According to the film, not only did this 2010 ruling pave the way for unlimited corporate contributions to political campaigns, but additionally it highlighted the blatant corruption of the country’s highest Court and its cozy relationship with top corporate interests.
Filmed in the US, Tuvalu, Peru, England, Uganda, Kenya, Belgium, Denmark and Germany, “Greedy Lying Bastards” includes interviews with scientists, industry experts, international political delegates, and people impacted by the changing climate as well as deniers. Among them: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon; Rep. Henry Waxman (CA); former EPA head Christine Todd Whitman; top U.S. climate scientists Dr. Pieter Tans (NOAA), Dr. Mark Serreze (NOAA), Dr. Kevin Trenberth (NCAR), former President of Copenhagen Climate Summit
COP15 Connie Hedegaard, UN Environmental Program Executive Director Achim Steiner, leading climate science skeptics Myron Ebell, Christopher Monckton, and Jay Lehr, and victims of the 2012 wildfires and drought in the U.S.

If you are not weak-minded, you are 100% sure that conspiracies never happen.
Got it!
You notice in the GLB poster that Daryl Hannah is the Executive Producer of this latest leftist propaganda movie?
I’ve seen Daryl on TV espousing the standard boilerplate CAGW talking points that man is destroying the Earth and we’re all going to be killed by greedy evil oil companies and corporations in general.
It always sounds like her “opinion” is based on the last warmunista blog she read, and I’m sure this movie will be no different.
Oh, goody…. I can’t wait to hear what an evil lying bastard I am….
BTW, I’m still waiting for my check from EXXON, as I’m often accused of being on their payroll as I defend the use of the Scientific Method to validate any proposed theory.
“Yeah, I read the book ‘Day of Deceit’ and am almost certain that not only did we provoke them into attacking us, we had broke their code and we knew we were going to get hit. This statement by Tans bolsters the book. ”
Yes, of course: FDR and the entire WH staff, plus all the military and intelligence people, were happy to goad Japan into an attack on Pearl Harbor —the ONLY strategic American assets within their reach—and not tell the military commanders in Hawaii in advance.
Why? Because America really, really, really, really, really, really, wanted a two-front war on opposite sides of the globe.
Yeah…that’s it…THAT’s it…

“when a person gets on an elevator with all the other people (stupidly) facing the back, the new entrant will also do so, simply to be part of the “herd.””
Happened to me once.. but I was never part of a herd, so I stood facing the door I’d come in.
Then the door at the back of the elevator opened. 🙂
“CodeTech says:

Talking of war and funding, in WW2, Henry Ford donated all profits from all sales of Ford vehicles in Germany to Hitler. He was honoured for that and Hitler awareded him a medal, the only non-German to receive such award (I don’t recall what it was called).
There’s a few people posting here that really need to read Bill Whittle’s essays on conspiracy theory. Like, twice. Maybe once a day or something.

Part 2 is particularly relevant. I think he wrote part 3 on CAGW but I can never find it or I misremember reading it.
Projection…?
Anna Keppa,
You can listen to a 2008 CBC interview with the Canadian who actually broke the code while working in Rockefeller Center at the secret British war room here. Roosevelt knew about this; don’t know who else. This is the Canadian’s obit in 2011:
“A Man Most Ordinary”

Thankfully many people outside of this debate are aware of tactics employed by those who cannot win an arguement – try to smear and silence the other side as much as possible.
Personally, I’m finding the latest flailing about from the cAGW crowd rather funny, trying to make bigger, scarier scenarios and projections when the observable data simply do not match. They know how daft they sound… they must do, right? It’s all about keeping this agenda alive now and hoping that warming will resume.
I get a feeling this whole cAGW thing will be a huge social/history case study for students in 100 years time and both sides will be judged on how we carry ourselves in this “debate”.
On a side note, Poland might be taking EU CO2 Emission law to EU courts of Justice. If the topic of science credibility turns up in a court of law, the consequences could be ‘interesting’.
List of heroes is hilarious
Michael Mann – Ph.D. in Geology & Geophysics from Yale University. – Sheldon Cooper refers to geologists as gravel monkeys. “Award-winning science website RealClimate.org” – ????????
Connnie Hedegaard is a Danish politician, journalist, and intellectual. Had no real job then!
George Monbiot – no mention of him falsely accusing Lord Alpine of a particularly unpleasant crime.
You’re not alone. Jackie Kennedy thought so too. John Jr was dating Hannah. Jackie’s bigger concern was that John Jr would marry Hannah and move west. Hannah was therefore a threat. Apparently, John Jr was a riveting stage presence and a surprisingly powerful actor in school plays at Phillips Academy at Andover (according to the headmaster, the man who started Outward Bound, who told me this directly and raved about his talent) and later at Brown. He loved acting but his mother wouldn’t hear of it.
Hannah and John Jr lived together on the upper west side, and according to my friend who lived either above or below them and ate dinner with them occasionally as neighbors do, they were genuinely and madly in love with each other. He said they were one of the those couples you just know were meant to be together. My friend said that if Hannah had been a paralegal, or had worked in the Mayor’s office, anything other than acting, Jackie Kennedy probably would have relented.
But my friend said what you did. He said she was as sweet as an angel, but as dumb as a doornail.
Come on boys (and girls), in defence of Pieter Tans, there is not the slightest connection between what he believes about the 9/11 attack and his work as scientist. As good as there is no connection between what Dr. Spencer believes about Intelligent Design and his work on satellite data.
Pieter Tans is a (moderate) warmist, but his work on the quality of the CO2 measurements at Mauna Loa and other “baseline” stations is impeccable. If there are troubles with the measurements, he is the first to admit that and to discuss the problems, even here on WUWT. See:
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2008/08/04/one-day-later-mauna-loa-co2-graph-changes-data-doesnt/
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2008/08/06/post-mortem-on-the-mauna-loa-co2-data-eruption/
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2008/08/07/mauna-loa-to-improve-the-co2-data/
I don’t know what he is going to tell in this film, but I suppose that he simply will show the Mauna Loa data…
“Few PR offences have been so obvious, so successful and so despicable as this attack on the science of climate change. It has been a triumph of disinformation …”
That’s true enough, at anyrate. But, thank God, there are now enough websites like WUWT, the Bish, Jo Nova etc. correcting this disinformation that the Greedy Lying Bastards’ PR offences are becoming more widely known.
And a note to all those using the scary knee-jerk trigger phrase “conspiracy theories” to diss Tans for seeking “9/11 Truth”: Why do you think everyone should believe the (often all-too-obvious) rubbish spread by Greedy Lying Governments instead? They lie through their teeth about everything else, so why should anyone think their CYA fairy stories are God’s Own Truth? C’mon.
The History Channel did a series called “The Men Who Killed Kennedy” that covers the various theories. The last in the series was banned, all copies destroyed. Fred Burk of wanttoknow.info found a copy and uploaded it here:
http://www.personalgrowthcourses.net/video/assassinations/men_who_killed_kennedy_9_assassinations
It’s well worth the beer and the 45 minutes.
Burk was the personal translator for US presidents from around the 1990s (think he did something for Bush Sr, but know he was installed from Clinton on) until he was asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement around 2004 or 2005 during Bush Jr.’s term that would have silenced him and his ancestors for two centuries. He refused and left the State Dept.

Oops, can you correct the blockquote. Sorry.
Rosebraugh doesn’t know how to make a decent cup of tea either (and therefore probably a ‘wrongun’) from the evidence in the picture but perhaps that’s faked too.
Sorry but I dont see the prob with the cover photo. He just inserted himself into a pic of an oilspill. You can tell from the different angles. Sure the photo is artificial but its not on par with segregating an polar bear on a block of ice from mainland (that is just disturbing).
Kepler believed in the music of the spheres and Newton was an enthusiastic alchemist. Nobody seems to think we should ditch their contributions to science on account of these idiosyncrasies.
As Science says: “There is always some uncertainty associated with scientific conclusions.”
Ridiculous. When PROPER science is done PROPERLY, there is virtually zero uncertainty.
In this David vs Goliath struggle between Skeptics and Alarmists, between truth and lies, and between science and pseudoscience, it is and always has been the Skeptics who are on the David side, along with truth and science, with the Alarmists being the Goliath. They are the ones with huge money and power, including governments and government-funded “scientific” organizations, and NGOs, along with the MSM as their mouthpiece. It is hilariously pathetic to see them continually trying to portray themselves as the David side, struggling against a mighty Skeptic Goliath side. They need to tell themselves that because they are losing, and they know it, and that creates a huge chasm between what they Believe and reality. Their delusion borders on the psychotic.

When a UK charity tried to open a footpath behind my house, making me and mine vulnerable to theft — bear with me, this is relevant — I fought it and won, but what I learnt was that the law was badly drafted and worse developed by precedent. It meant that any right of way, no matter how defunct, could be resurrected. So I looked around and found a Roman road first used in 49AD, Watling Street, running straight through the Houses of Parliament. I applied for that footpath to be re-opened and obstacles in its path removed, including the Members’ Dining Room in the House of Commons and the north transept of Westminster cathedral. After an amusing exchange, the powers-that-be realised that I was serious and that yes, indeed, the law they had written didn’t only apply to little people, it applied to the highest in the land. They are now in the process of amending the legislation.
Now, about the Act you mention: one of the founding fathers of the US, Benjamin Franklin, proved that a tiny amount of oil can spread very widely on a clean water surface: I use the approximation that 5ml of oil can smooth a hectare of the ocean, which means the oil spreads out to a thickness of 2*10^-10 m. Please note that this is too thin to show as a rainbow sheen, being much less than the wavelength of visible light, so I call them smooths. I’ve taken to photographing smooths and looking for them every time I see a picture of the ocean. They are everywhere. Whoever wants to enforce the Act is in for a very profitable time.
Look at the picture of Ursus bogus: in the background there is a nice smooth which looks like the trail left by a powerboat. Then see http://www.nasa.gov/images/content/618486main_earth_full.jpg
and click on the mouth of the Mississippi: the area clear of clouds is that part of the Gulf which is smoothed by oil and surfactant pollution from all the people living beside that great river. NASA tells us that the oily road run-off from a city of 5 million people is the equivalent of a major tanker disaster.
Not convinced yet that the Act is either unenforceable or a licence to print money? Have a look at the first two pictures at
http://marinas.com/view/inlet/1668_Beaufort_Harbor_Inlet_NC_United_States
and zoom around. Those paler smooth areas are… well, smooths, areas of navigable water polluted by oil and surfactant, a film upon the surface of the water.
Short of cash? You could paddle up and down with a camera, gather evidence from every tiny ditch or drain from properties by the inlet and offer to split the proceeds with EPA or whoever it is that has the franchise. I’m fond of that second picture because I got into a discussion with a poster who said he fished there and had never seen any sign of pollution. People don’t see smooths because they are ubiquitous.
Irritated by the EPA? Find one of their premises adjoining a waterway and have a look round, you’ll find a smooth and, of course, when it is told about it the EPA will have to fine itself. I’m against pollution, but I am also against bad law: this Act looks like one of those that apply so widely that discretion has to be used when enforcing it, and guess who gets let off in those circumstances: clue, it’s not the little people.
Laws are not just for little people, but our masters forget that fact and need reminding. Happy hunting!

[self snips burbling on about reduced aerosol and cloud cover, Kriegsmarine Hypothesis, WWII ‘why the blip’ etc….]
where to start with this film, they of course cover Tuvalu and sea rise, of course they do not check their facts as to why,
“Demand for coral as building material increased many times as a result of the construction boom resulting from the development of tourism in the early 1970s. Mined reefs show little or no sign of recovery even after 30 years. In some mined reefs, coral cover was reduced to less than 1%, resulting in a very low diversity and small numbers of fish. Severe erosion is found on almost all the islands that have a history of coral or sand mining”
I’d prefer to see a detailed video blog fisking of every lie in the thing.
Start with the cover. (already have that one)
Then you show the first clip. Let them ramble a bit. Then Penn and Teller pop up and say “Hold the show. They claim yadda yadda, and that’s bullshit. Here’s Lord Christopher Monckton with the real numbers.”
Then just on like that until they run out of lies.
