From Tom Nelson: Keystone pipeline passes environmental review: It’s the [CO2-induced] end of the world as the Sierra Club knows it, and I feel fine
The State Department released a draft environmental impact assessment of the controversial Keystone XL pipeline Friday afternoon, suggesting the project would have little impact on climate change.

Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune just released the following reaction in a press release just sent out:
“The Sierra Club is outraged by the State Department’s deeply flawed analysis today and what can only be interpreted as lip service to one of the greatest threats to our children’s future: climate disruption…”
From Junkscience:

It’s is driving the enviros crazy this afternoon.

“Won’t there actually be less of an environmental impact if the pipeline is built and the oil is refined and the products primarily used in the US, with our tight emissions standards,”
Not to mention all of the oil used to ship it to china, and to ship the middle eastern oil here. Talk about unnecessary emissions and waste…
What?!?!?! Another claim of enviro-exremsits proven false? How can that be……..

‘Cold Weld’ or ‘Gold Weld‘?
===============================
I meant cold weld, which would normally be a bad thing except in the unique case we’re joking about. I’d UT the sucker myself, if I could find a joint where both sides are zero. I guess they call that the ‘middle of the pipe’ ;o)
BTW, anyone with a passing interest in welding might want to click on your link for an easy read about testing joints.
Obama now has virtually no leverage with the Keystone XL pipeline.
TransCanada has be moving forward with the bulk of the pipeline without waiting for Obama to get all his “ducks in a row.”
Meanwhile, Canadian PM Harper’s moves with China, setting up a possible alternate market for the oil sands production, has left the State Dept. with a “moot” decision. A “yes” would cause a “carbon” release in the US, while a “no” would cause a “carbon” release in China. The net result of either choice would mean only a change in where it is used.
Even now, if Obama says NO, the pipeline will be used to transport oil production from Montana and Wyoming to Texas.
There is simply no leverage for Obama to exercise.
This latest announcement from the State Department appears to be setting the stage for Obama to quietly give the approval, probably late on an alternate news-heavy Friday afternoon.
RE: “Can someone please tell me why the Sierra club has a tax free status. Last year I did a little research & found that they have over 750 million dollars in assets. That was for 2009 & I’m sure it’s probably closer to a billion now.”
Who knows? Maybe they have religious status. Seriously, it’s because they are (supposedly) a non-profit organization.
The same people in that club want to deny tax exemptions for the legitimate religious organizations in the US, which are also non-profits.
Go figure!
since they are pushing for Cap and Trade, or some form of carbon tax….
….doesn’t this mean more money?
You folks south of the border don’t seem to understand the depth of us “evil Canadians” Piss us off and you are sure to get an “angry letter to the editor” or you could stay with the present middle east supply with its associated issues. you choose eh!
Ha ha!!! Take that climate cult members! I just love it when they cry.
I’m anxiously awaiting the response to this news by Daryl Hannah.
I could use a good laugh.
Everyone seems to ignore the the significant benefit that light, sweet crude oil from the Bakken area will also be transferred in the Keystone XL Pipeline to the Gulf.
President Obama could still nix the pipeline.
Until he has made his decision, celebrations are premature.
Donna LaFramboise has a new feature, The Drama Queen Files. The current one is about GreenPeace being “…outraged…” at the State Departments Draft EIR. As Donna says, that is about as newsworthy as reporting that the Pope is Catholic.

Let’s see: They will extract the oily sand, process the mixture, store/transfer the oil, and return the clean sand to the earth. This is a catastrophe!
Nice summed up Alvin 🙂

Some commenters here that are supportive of the oil sands are using the term tar sands. Tar sands is the term used by those wanting to shut the operations down. There is no ‘Tar’ in the oil sands. The term ‘Tar Sands’ started being used in Canada to equate them with the Sydney tar pits in Nova Scotia which are a legacy of industrial pollution to give people a bad impression by association with the oil sands. Those that support the oil sands should use the term oil sands….just sayn’
I think you are right WTF, I was always sensitive at such, that only confuses.
The same with black-carbon for soot. I’ve never heard that expression until recently, or was it used before too?
too funny……
Keystone Is The Wrong Kind Of Jobs For Obama
http://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2013/03/02/keystone-is-the-wrong-kind-of-jobs-for-obama/
Oil sands: human beings voluntarily cleaning up God’s oil spills, adding to the economy, fueling our vehicles, putting people to work, generating tax revenues, at no cost to the government, and generally improving quality of life. Oh yeah, lots to bitch about there….
John F. Hultquist on March 1, 2013 at 10:17 pm
Business News reported that John Kerry’s disclosure statement showed he owned about $3.5 million in Heinz shares and that goes up by $650,000 due to Buffets purchase offer. Since Theresa’s ownership is private, how does anyone know what her actual or proxy ownership is?
I wouldn’t mind taking a bet that a lot of mid.east money is backing the anti.Canadian oil protests
The election is over, Obama no longer needs their support, so now he tells them to f**k-off we need the energy. Don’t know why the Sierra Club is surprised, I doubt anybody who seriously reads the news about the president is.

Keystone Is The Wrong Kind Of Jobs For Obama”…
That’s correct. The only jobs Obama wants are more tax collectors and social workers.
When eco-whackos and climate alarmists are “outraged”, all is well. They are like a disease of all humanity, and the infection has reached its’ peak. Fortunately, the antibiotics of truth, reason, actual science, and reality are now kicking in, thanks in large part to sites like this one.
Of course the eco-freaks want a catastrophe so they can push for deindustrialization. It is the dream, the goal, to be imposed globally. These are very evil people as they want to depopulate the world as much as possible. Check out the DGR (Deep Green Resistance) and Deep Ecology to see what their end game is. Their underlying philosophy is terrifying.
Here is Bernie Sanders’ statement:
(emphasis mine>
Considering that he has a degree in political “science” it isn’t difficult to understand why someone like him is so easily overwhelmed looking only at the scientific distortions presented by those who want their government funded paychecks to keep coming.
His vision of “efficiency and sustainable energy” apparently does not include such images as 440,000 birds being slaughtered every year, (see page 42) (…and killed with impunity,), or Chinese villages being poisoned whole by rare earth magnet production, or food prices skyrocketing because of farmland being usurped for bio-fuel and planting solar panels.
And no Bernie – DIRT itself is the dirtiest stuff on earth and happens to be what covers a lot of it. Apparently your home planet is dirt free so, if you don’t like the stuff … please just go home!
The key point should be that the oil from the tar sands is going to be burned. The only difference Keystone makes is whether that oil will be burned here in the US, or in China.
