New Resource―Quote List for Climate Change, Energy, Environment

Guest post by Steve Goreham

I’m announcing a new on-line quote list resource for journalists, writers, and authors on climate change, global warming, energy, and the environment. You can find the list here.

clip_image002The list contains more than 450 quotes and 20,000 words from political leaders, scientists, environmentalists, and news media headlines. It currently includes more than 30 quotes by or about the IPCC, more than 30 quotes by recent political leaders, and more than 60 quotes on energy.

The compilation of quotes is a collection from my two books on climate change, but will grow to include additional quotes in the future.

Citations from books, technical articles, news media, and web sites are provided. I’ve stated the original source of the quote wherever possible.

To help user search efforts, the quote list is divided into the following categories:

· Atmospheric CO2, Greenhouse Effect

· Carbon Taxes, Business

· Climate Change, General

· Climategate

· Energy, Biofuels

· Energy, Hydrocarbons

· Energy, Wind and Solar

· Energy, Other

The earth climate has changed through out it’s existence due to solar activity, not human. Where are the dinosaurs if it is human caused. You live in the flood plain you get flooded.

The fever Al Gore discussed was primarily in his head.

Thanks, there never seem to be enough resources when countering the Warmista contentions.

There was a very reveling quote from a climate scientist, I think from NCAR, who said something like:
“If the data does not match the models then we make adjustments to the data”
The quote was highlighted on WUWT and I think it came from some public statement or from a public lecture or the like, but I cannot find it. There is a similar quote in Steve’s quote list from Osbourne from the climategate emails but it is not the one I am looking for.
Does anyone recall this?

November 9, 2012 11:25 am

This is nice, but is there a way to begin hyperlinking the quotes to their original sources so folks can see them in full context and to verify the actual quote itself?

November 9, 2012 11:39 am

Two suggestions:
First, it will be difficult to come back to this periodically and see what has been added since the last visit. So maybe a page of the quotes in reverse chronological order of additions could be added to the Quote menu,
Second, the Quote menu could have a page form for submission of additional quotes and sources.
Good luck on the page.

Phil Jones:
“I’ve been told that IPCC is above national FOI Acts. One way to cover yourself and all those working on AR5 would be to delete all e-mails at the end of the process. Any work we have done in the past is done on the back of the research grants we get – and has to be well hidden. I’ve discussed this with the main funder (U.S. Department of Energy) in the past and they are happy about not releasing the original station data.”
Phil Jones;
“Basic problem is that all models are wrong – not got enough middle and low level clouds. …what he [Zwiers] has done comes to a different conclusion than Caspar and Gene! I reckon this can be saved by careful wording.”
Phil Jones;
“Getting people we know and trust [into IPCC] is vital – hence my comment about the tornadoes group.”
Jonathan Overpeck;
“The trick may be to decide on the main message and use that to guid[e] what’s included and what is left out.”
Raymond Bradley;
“I’m sure you agree–the Mann/Jones GRL [Geophysical Research Letters] paper was truly pathetic and should never have been published. I don’t want to be associated with that 2000 year “reconstruction.”
Peter Thorne;
“Observations do not show rising temperatures throughout the tropical troposphere unless you accept one single study and approach and discount a wealth of others. This is just downright dangerous. We need to communicate the uncertainty and be honest. Phil, hopefully we can find time to discuss these further if necessary…” In another e-mail he stated: “I also think the science is being manipulated to put a political spin on it which for all our sakes might not be too clever in the long run.”

Our Prime Minister, Gillard gets an entry !
Pity they missed her most famous quote “There will be no carbon tax” … shortly before she gave us one.

This election was like turkeys voting for an early thanksgiving.”
Thousands of layoff’s have already been announced in just the three days since the election. You might be able to kill it, but you can’t fool a free economy.

“In the absence of a substantiated explanation for the decline, we make the assumption that it is likely to be a response to some kind of recent anthropogenic forcing. On the basis of this assumption, the pre-twentieth century part of the reconstructions can be considered to be free from similar events and thus accurately represent past temperature variability.” Keith Briffa

“The University of East Anglia and the Met Office said [1995] was 0.4°C (32.7°F) warmer than the 1961–90 average”. Paul Brown in Global Warming Blandford 1996, p. 67. Note that all of Brown’s conversions of Celsius to Fahrenheit are similarly exaggerated; presumably he is either illiterate, he does writes fo the Grauniad after all, or he was attempting to frighten Americans more than the rest of the world.

Wow, just took a quick look at one of the sections and was very impressed! Excellent resource. Thanks!
I may have a few quotes for you to add, I’ve been following this issue since the days of Kyoto and have amassed quite a collection of information.

For some of these people (who are being quoted) it’s a mindset. For example “…the monster is us… We are overrunning the planet like an out-of-control malignancy”.

Geoff, 9:45pm, I take it you have an idea of the optimal human population size for the planet. Do you mind sharing it with us and on what you have based your figure on?

I just created a bookmark. This is going to cause some to be hot under the collar so to speak. Most likely feeling flames in the seat of their pants. I put that mildly.
Good idea and is going to be a great resource to many.

What an excellent resource, as is the one linked to Appinsys earlier on in this discussion.
Just one point…doesn`t James Hansen warrant a section of his own?

Dreams do come true! Johnny’s, for example:

“A massive campaign must be launched to de-develop the United States. De-development means bringing our economic system into line with the realities of ecology and the world resource situation.” —Dr. Paul Ehrlich, Anne Ehrlich, and Dr. John Holdren, Ecoscience: Population, Resources, Environment, 1970, p. 323

And now he gets 4 more years to push his glorious vision(s)!
Falling into a ditch comes to mind.

This means that the U.S. Department of Energy is the main funder of the CAGW hoax. The U.S. Government, in other words.
One can ask why? It will be guesswork, of course.
One theory is War on Terror;
They want the U.S. to stop sending money to oil producing arab nations. Better send money to China.

Hello Steve,
Yesterday I sent you an attached Word file containing lots of quotes I’d gleaned from WUWT. It was in two parts. After I sent the second part, I received a non-delivery notice from your end. I hope you didn’t block it because the first part contained macros. I use a few of them to help me quickly reformat the material I copy in from WUWT. They’re harmless. Please e-mail me back.
Here are my critiques of two of your quotes (from the last, “Great Quotes,” section):
“Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.” —Dr. Carl Sagan, Cosmos, episode 12, PBS, Dec. 14, 1980
Sagan popularized this, but the originator was Marcello Truzzi. Wikipedia states, “He is credited with originating the oft-used phrase “Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.””
“An extraordinary claim requires extraordinary proof.”
— Marcello Truzzi, On the Extraordinary: An Attempt at Clarification, Zetetic Scholar, Vol. 1, No. 1, p. 11, 1978
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcello_Truzzi
“For every complex problem there’s a simple answer—that’s wrong!” —Henry Louis Mencken, American journalist
Actual quote: “For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong .”

Al Gore is the new televangelist preacher raking in large sums of money and preaching hell and damnation on those who flirt with the devil CO2.
