Monday Mirthiness – another hilarious video

Elmer, of Minnesotans for Global Warming famous “Hide the Decline” fame, has a keen eye for comic opportunity, much like our esteemed cartoonist, Josh. He’s produced a new video today. Normally I don’t allow videos of this type, what with the “d-word” and all, but when its about you, I think I can grant myself a pass. Have a look.

Hi, as you know I’m German… German law is extremely picky in “fair use” and citing material….
Expect a cease&desist letter from Konstantin film’s lawyers in no time… WUWT is too visible to get away with this for long; some German warmist will give the lawyers a hint.

I had to turn the sound off (Das Video lässt mich wünschen, nicht zu verstehen Deutsch) but it’s great for everyone else.

Anthony, I fear you will be heavily criticized for putting this up. If you are wanting to get your paper to viewed seriously by the mainstream, this works against you.

BS, mate, since when couldn’t realists have a laugh? If anyone criticized Anthony’s paper for some reason like this, that person is seriously clutching at straws. And it will show that way. Relax and enjoy.

Yeah, well, I’ve about had it with the Hitler rant remakes, but this one was good, LOL good. Maybe needed a bit more setup of the study content for continuity, but the punchlines were perfect.
Ian W., I don’t know what imaginary world you live in where “seriousness, professionalism, and integrity” are useful in impressing consensualists or their political enablers. I conclude you are just being “an obnoxious prick.”

Repeating my compliment from the other thread, nice work Elmer!
For those of you new to this classic internet gag, what you have here is a running theme where people have been using this segment from the movie Downfall (2004) and adding their own subtitles to create their own comedic parody of whatever topic they are passionate about.
My own personal favorite has been the (Hitler finds out the Start Menu will be removed from Windows 8). If you are involved in the ins and outs of Windows and the looming upgrade controversy, be sure you move your coffee away from the screen before you watch it.
For those that have no sense of humor or think it is beneath us, well consider this … the AGW cultists would have done it eventually to us. Thankfully Elmer thought of this before they did.
Ha! Our videos are funnier than theirs.

Can we call it ‘when BEST(berkley) meets WEST(watts)’??

I liked the “You’ve got to get on Drudge” part. Though I wish somehow word would get to Drudge to figure out how to link to THIS 3 minute video, also by M4GW, that calls out Al Gore for repeating the ipcc deceptions on CO2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WK_WyvfcJyg&desc=GGWarmingSwindle_CO2Lag
But the highlight is when Hitler says: “Do you know what this will do to my Hockey Stick chart? It will just be a stick chart! People will not be afraid of a stick chart!”

To expand a tad on Leo G’s excellent comment, for those who are not familiar with the traditions of this clip.
Downfall (2004) is a German-language movie about the last days of Hitler. The clip seen was the trailer for the movie. The movie itself was generally well-regarded as one of the few original (as opposed to recycling of newsreel footage) works on Hitler.
I can’t say who produced the first parody, but they all follow a similar pattern. Careful choice of words and phrases develops a (short) narrative which matches the pacing & tempo of the original German dialog, but intended to create a humorous result. Topics have ranged from Hitler being kicked off of a popular role-playing game to more-political rants. The Guardian lists some of them, including:
-Hitler rants about vuvuzelas
-Hitler finds there will be no camera in the iPod Touch
-Hitler laments the decline of Second Life
-Hitler finds out he has been banned from Xbox Live
-Hitler finds out about Sarah Palin’s resignation
– Hitler phones the talking cat
…One of the best: Hitler finds out about the Downfall meme: “I slaughtered millions, cut a bloody path of destruction across Europe, and for what? So I could be the latest juvenile web fad, no better than YouTube Fred or that stupid f—–g hamster?”
So, yes, this is a clip involving a Hitler parody, but, no, it’s not comparing anyone to Hitler, nor invoking Godwin (never mind 98% of the people “invoking Godwin’ didn’t understand what he said, not to mention the “that side loses” meme).

For all those who have concerns at this Hitler video clip being used i such a way – i would suggest that your concern is unwarrented but your concern does you credit.
I am not sure if this video clip is as popular in the US as it is here in the UK. There have been numerous versions with the subtitles changing each time to make a particular “joke”.
One of the funniest is where they have to tell Hitler his motorbike has been destroyed but they have bought a BMW replacement! You have to watch it to see how hilarious this one is as well (and probably a biker!!)

As I say – there are many versions – this latest one incorporating the debacle of Muller and the trully excellent work by Watts et al is another classic.
Well done to those who created it.

A bit late for that, Dirk. That clip has been the base for too many parodies to keep track of, including one showing Hitler ranting about the popularity of the Downfall parodies — Konstantin Films tried to get them yanked from U-Toob two years ago, then caved after their lawyers advised them that the parodies fell under “fair use.”

“Not a German.”
The video above is also a fake. Swiss actor Bruno Ganz talks about the challenges of his role in “Downfall” – not about web videos misusing his acting skills.
