‘A tool commonly used by financial strategists to determine what shares to purchase to create a diversified stock portfolio was used to develop a diversified portfolio of another kind — land to be set aside for conservation purposes given the uncertainty about climate change.
Instead of plugging into the formula the data for the history of a stock, University of Illinois environmental economist Amy Ando and agricultural economist Mindy Mallory used the historical climate data of the Prairie Pothole Region of the northern Great Plains to develop a new application of the financial tool called the Modern Portfolio Theory….’

The truism that “fools and their money are soon parted” is illustrated yet again.
I wonder if the researchers would be prepared to stake their net worth on their findings?
My guess was fakegate.
The Guardian have (another) article saying that Heartland is suffering from mass staff defections and losing donors:
Is this an issue at the conference?
It shouldn’t be. The coal lobby such as the Illinois Coal Association and conservative groups such as the Heritage Foundation have courageously stepped in to help fund the conference. One analysis mentioned $5m in funding from Exxon and other oil companies.
That will pay for a lot of scientific studies.
Heartland’s brave experiment with the Unabomber billboard will lead to even more funding-not less! In many ways, it is a great stroke in public relations and the lamestream media has been completely unsuccessful in trying to put a negative spin on it.
The coal industry has always had a strong desire to make balanced information available to the public on the issue of global warming and they are, to their credit, standing firm with their friends.
Yet what conference on global warming would be complete without Monckton? He’s got the highest profile and is the best in the business by far. Looking forward to his input.

“I see the back of a head ravaged by the extremes of global climate change. We’re too late.”
I saw the same…. and noted that the albedo was way up on that denuded orb!
The Guardian’s latest revision of history is re-defining Peter Gleick as “the scientist whose internet sting set Heartland on its current course of collapse”.

Did not find any other balanced coverage with Google news.

Allow me to change the subject… ☺
I’m thinking of christening the one (1) single protester that the anti-Heartland people could dig up as “Bazinga!”, since he’s the same guy from the NATO protest. You never know where he’ll pop up next.
