I’ve had a feud with David Appell ever since he brought my deceased mother into an attack article about me, which I retort in: David Appell denies he has any class . Maybe that was when he hit bottom, because since then he’s been steadily publishing articles that are starting to make sense to those of us that don’t fret fearfully about AGW, climate change, and weather is not climate unless we say it is. And, he’s even calling out people like Bill McKibben and Peter Gleick for their selective over the top rhetoric and dishonesty. The light bulb seems to have gone on for Appell, and it isn’t a twisty bulb.
He makes some good points here:

Bill McKFibben went on Democracy Now today to talk about the President’s attempt to make everyone happy on the Keystone Pipeline (or, at least, make everyone equally unhappy), and mentioned the warm weather in the US, calling it the “weirdest weather ever seen in this country.”
Personally I find such talk strange, since here in Oregon it’s been cold and rainy (and even snowed last night), but that’s another matter.

McKibben does this a lot, like with last year’s Hurricane Irene, which he attributed to warm water off the east coast. Yet the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season had a near normal number of major hurricanes, with an above average number of tropical storms with a near normal number of major hurricanes. Back then KcKibben picked off all the global hot spots:
“Last year was the warmest ever recorded on planet Earth. Arctic sea ice is near all-time record lows. Record floods from Pakistan to Queensland to the Mississippi basin; record drought from the steppes of Russia to the plains of Texas. Just about the only trauma we haven’t had are hurricanes plowing into the U.S., but that’s just luck—last year was a big storm year, but they all veered out to sea. This year we’re already on letter I—which in a normal year we don’t get to until well into October.”
Now he sticks to the US heat wave, with no mention of the recent deep freeze in eastern Europe. And if you want to cherry pick, Arctic sea ice is currently at it highest extent in several years.
But the one that really deserves QOTW notice is this one:
Are we really going to rebuild all of civilization to avoid the occasional heat wave and rising seas and some slightly stronger hurricanes? I was thinking about this last night, and the answer is clearly no. Yes, these aren’t the only impacts of climate change, by any means, but we get a lot of value from burning fossil fuels. A lot. There is as yet no viable substitute for them. I was thinking about my personal list of concerns, the big ones, and the honest answer is climate change is pretty far down the list, after health care, income (and so, the economy), clean local air and water, crime, and then things like war and terrorism and then hungry and poor people across the globe and animal suffering and probably a few things that aren’t occurring to me now, and then climate change. Sorry, but that’s the truth.

UPDATE: It seems we are back to the death threat thing again, so maybe now Appell will go soft on McFibben and get all bent out of shape when we aren’t all shocked like he did before? His issues was that I just wasn’t shocked and angry enough, but when you look at the charges and “investigation” as I did, there was nothing of substance there.

Following in the footsteps of whiners Katharine Hayhoe and Michael Mann, now 350.org’s Bill McKibben is claiming to have been the target of “death threats.” But maybe he’s just tying to distract from an allegation of racism?
It seems McKibben and other eco-groups aren’t so tolerant of minorities when it comes to saving Gaia. Pre-emptive note to Appell, I’m not shocked about that either.

I butted heads with Appell a year or so ago. My impression of him will take a long time to change. It’s nice to see signs that he is changing his tune, but he’s got a long way to go.

Let’s remember that none of the man-made global warming, (climate change) alarmists produce ANY seasonal forecasts in advance, much less even monthly climate/weather forecasts. Yet, they are alarmist to the maximum with continuing frightening scenarios to scare populations so as to scam even more billions from the world to line their own sad (non-forecasting) pockets.
The fear-mongering hasn’t worked – and they know it – and the free money and press is drying up so it is quite natural that we will see and hear desperation in the form of worsening screams from the AGW ideologues right down to the very end.
People like Anthony Watts and all those who have fought tooth and nail to bring the truth to the people of the world will be hailed as heroes in the years to come. It will be well-deserved after years of fighting the AGW ideologues who are idiot-globalists without a clue on how their own planet’s climate system functions.
My own long-range Astromet climate forecast for the years 2012-2016 clearly reveal warmer than normal temperatures and drier conditions – with spreading drought – because of the activity of the SUN – that will last to the middle of this decade just before the official global cooling begins in earnest.
We already see the signs of this in the growing arctic ice sea extent; along with last winter’s deep freeze in eastern Europe that Anthony Watts pointed out. What we are witnessing is early start of first-stage global cooling that officially begins in 2017 according to my astrometeorological calculations. My long-range climate forecast shows will be colder and wetter than normal worldwide going into the decade of the 2020s.
We are going to need all the energy & power we can get to stay and keep warm during the decades of the 2020s, 2030s and 2040s – and it is going to get COLD folks. Believe me when I tell you that there will be no concern at all about burning fossil fuels whatsoever when people are freezing their behinds off.
Global cooling is the real bad guy here people and all of you had better get prepared in advance.
I will take global warming anytime, anywhere over global cooling. I am no fool.
The AGW alarmists – especially the careerist climate scientists – will be at direct blame for populations and nations being wholly unprepared for the coming global cooling regime.
So much money, time, effort and preparation has been wasted on the impossibility of humanity ever causing planetary ‘climate change’ – ignoring the Sun – which I remind all – is the reason and cause of global warming – and global cooling.
I have forecasted that the years 2012-2016 will be warmer and drier than average – because of the SUN – so we can expect, as I’ve said, that many people will be distracted by the ‘climate change’ craziness. There is only one season of below normal average temperatures with blasting winter conditions in that four (4) year span and that particular winter is a sign of the new climate regime to come.
Those are the people who will freeze from the cold that is coming in the next decade where storms are fiercer, and the climate is much cooler – making survival that much more difficult than global warming could ever be.
Be afraid and truly fear global cooling because it is so much more devastating than global warming could ever, ever be.
So while we continue to fight this very good fight (and we ARE winning the fight, make no mistake about it) we also need to begin a parallel campaign to ready ourselves for Global Cooling – and time is running out to refit and ready our energy, agricultural, power and structural needs for the new global cooling regime just ahead.
Do not say that you were not warned and do not become too distracted by the mad-hatter AGW alarmists who have wasted nearly 30 years on the junk and pseudoscience of ‘man-made global warming.’

There is obviously chaos in the warmista camp, but to say they’ll ever become “climate realists” is far more than I can believe. They’ve got their own sordid history to defend.

I have not seen any scientific, peer reviewed evidence that the WEATHER is getting weirder. NONE. What I have found is no trends in weird weather.

I remember Appell’s first reactions to Climategate II. I was impressed with his not minimizing how bad the revelations were. So I kept reading those initial posts. In one case he explained (with help from a Climategate emailer) that Mann was not the target of harsh criticism in an email for authoring a bad graph in an email as it had seemed (because of a confusion between people named “Mike”), I went through the Climategate thread in question and found that Appell was right. I made sure to spread that information about the “Mike” confusion and refer back to Appell. Fairness is a good policy all around. Going to his site wasn’t like walking into a wall.
Despite the political unrest it seems that the road to Damascus is still open.

I am continuously amazed that people keep believing in man made global warming and man made climate change when all the evidence that I could find clearly point to the opposite, i.e.

Of course they are the ones raised on BAMBI and would not know reality if it bit them in the rear. I call them Super Market Predators because of the large disconnect between the reality of where the goods they buy come from and their personal believe system.
Try telling them the amount of CO2 released during the building and maintenance of a Wind Mill and watch the denial. To them it is “Green” so no CO2 is release period.

If memory serves me, the original TX/OK pipeline flowed north to make use of the refineries in OK. It was later reversed and flowed south as OK production exceeded refining capacity. Last November the Seaway Pipeline, from Cushing to Houston, was purchased with the intent to reverse its flow because of a continuing surplus of crude oil in the midwest. Presumably, the southern half of the Keystone pipeline would augment this latest 150,000 bbl improvement and flow south.

Leaving the question of how to transport the refined products to market. The Nebraska section of the Keystone Pipeline is still needed. Let’s hope the “environmentalists” see the light and realize neither the corn fields nor the Ogallala aquifer are in danger.
