100m countup open thread

UPDATE: Anyone who can get the screencap showing the counter at 100,000,000 on the right sidebar will get a free 100 million coffee cup with a special cartoon from Josh – Anthony

Hilary Ostrov writes via email:

Not sure where else to post this so that you will see it, but as I write, your blogstats are sitting at 99,965,942 views … so your blog is rapidly approaching a very significant milestone – which I anticipate will probably be reached within the next day or so (if not sooner!)

May I suggest that you start a Countup thread, so that lurkers and fans may express their thoughts as this milestone approaches … This will build excitement and traffic – and confound the “powers that wannabe”, I’m sure 😉

On one hand it thought to myself “it’s just a number, no big deal” on the other hand I thought “this only comes once, and a number of people have emailed me about it, so there must be some excitement going on”.

So, who am I to argue with the lady? Sound off below.

“And behold there shall come amidst the prophets of doom, a voice crying in the blogosphere of one who is mighty in blog-craft and mathematics!
His words and those of his disciples will be great in the world, and they will speak unto the nations with a loud voice, and be heard.
Then shall the nations once again become acquainted with the truth, and there shall be weeping amongst those of unclean lips, and those who utter falsehood in the land.
Then shall the people rejoice in their freedom, and the nations be renewed in scientific honesty and acumen.
And they shall call his name ‘Anthony’, and he will be triumphant even to the number and extent of 100,000,000 and beyond!
And it was so……!” ~ The book of Science and Learning “(circa) 2012.

Congratulations! 100M is quite an accomplishment. The only thing most people have done 100M+ times is, have their heart beat (by ~3.2 yrs old), breathe (~16 yrs old), or blink (~48 old, assuming 1 blink every 10 seconds for 16 waking hours/day).
Best regards to you, yours, and the moderators!

Like a modern day John Chapman (AKA Johnny Appleseed), Anthony Watts is spreading seeds of truth all over the world.
Anthony,
Thanks so much for all you do and the totally classy way that you do it. Few people in history have had as big an impact as you… and I suspect you’re just getting started. I don’t know if you smoke cigars or not, but if you do, today would be a good day for partaking in a super premium. Might I suggest a Fuente Fuente Opus X….

BTW, might i suggest that you change the banner graphic to include fireworks and a prominent “Over 100,000,000 views!” message. You have earned the right to boast a little!

@Joshualdo
LOL And of course you have assumed a linear relationship when in fact a most important and often overlooked factor to consider is natural variability 😉 (in this case the natural daily cycle)

Ah, natural variability, what natural variability? Like, people are waking up in America??? That’s the problem with den****, scientists have all the work proving solid beer-reviewed science and den**** just come up and say something from the top of our (oops) heads and we are supposed to listen!
You can’t possibly beat a R2=0.963 linear, zero intercept least squares model. That’s as robust as it gets. That’s incontrovertible. There’s a wide, 97% consensus on that. I mean, only a d***** would believe otherwise 🙂
Prepare for 17:00 GMT !!!!! Remember accumulated page views at WUWT correlate perfectly with Mauna Loa CO2! Ah, and methane too!
/sarc off, just in case, ah ah

It signifies the victory of science over superstition and cognitive dissonance.
Congrats Tony, CTM, TOM (The Other Moderators) and the thoughtful posters. Together they and we will defend science.

Congratulations on your achievement. This is a reflection of your due diligence and is no small feat. A lot of time and hard work on you and your teams’ behalf. It seems appropriate that your new year starts off with a 1 followed by 9 zeros. Too bad there is not a $ in front of that.. Maybe Exxon-Mobile can help you out there? 🙂
I was kind of curious. I wanted to see how the stats were counted. So at approx. 08:50 EST your front page blog was at:
• Blog Stats
I then clicked on the 100m story and the counter increased to:
• Blog Stats
I then went back to the front page and the number reverted to 99,989,204.
I then closed that tab, cleared the cache, and re-opened WUWT, same 99,989,204, the number from earlier.
Only when I manually cleared out the contents after http://wattsupwiththat.com from the address bar then my front page updated with the correct stats. So I don’t think anyone can scam the system by just refreshing the pages. Your stats are true numbers, unlike the results from certain AGW institutions…
Currently at 09:06 EST you are at:
• Blog Stats
Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!
