100m countup open thread

UPDATE: Anyone who can get the screencap showing the counter at 100,000,000 on the right sidebar will get a free 100 million coffee cup with a special cartoon from Josh – Anthony

Hilary Ostrov writes via email:

Not sure where else to post this so that you will see it, but as I write, your blogstats are sitting at 99,965,942 views … so your blog is rapidly approaching a very significant milestone – which I anticipate will probably be reached within the next day or so (if not sooner!)

May I suggest that you start a Countup thread, so that lurkers and fans may express their thoughts as this milestone approaches … This will build excitement and traffic – and confound the “powers that wannabe”, I’m sure 😉

On one hand it thought to myself “it’s just a number, no big deal” on the other hand I thought “this only comes once, and a number of people have emailed me about it, so there must be some excitement going on”.

So, who am I to argue with the lady? Sound off below.

  1. I am happy to blow a trumpet and announce to the word that this blog is fantastic and more, many many more peopke could benefit from subscribing to it!
    Countdown Congratulations

  2. As a visual image of 100 million vs the US population….
Of any group gathered anywhere in the USA, a theater, classroom, assembly, congress, etc,
30 percent of those in the room would raise their hand knowing who WUWT is.
I know these are not unique views, but this visual image is quite remarkable.
GREAT JOB !!! Anthony et al.

  3. Anthony, I’m so glad you decided not to argue with me 😉
As of this comment: 99,969,427 views and counting!
That’s 3,485 in less than an hour! May WUWT continue to go and grow from strength to strength (and milestone to milestone!)
    Hilary
[And more than 740,000 reader comments – another extremely impressive number – all in just 5 years. ~dbstealey, mod.]
[P.S.: Don’t forget to vote for WUWT for “Best Science” site. If we win this year, we will be retired, since three years running puts us permanently in the Hall of Fame, and we’ll never have to vote again. ~dbs, mod.]

  4. Looks like it’ll be a hundred million Saturday, so congrats are in order to you and your team.
Just think … in three or four years, it’ll be a quarter billion.

  5. 99,970,372 views as I write from Pattaya in Thailand. The current time is13:27hrs on Saturday afternoon. How about everyone who posts putting down where you are and also the local time and number of views?
A superb achievement by any standards. I’l make a visit to the tip jar over the next couple of days.
    Cheers!

  6. Congrats Anthony on all your hard work. You deserve all the success you get. You made it happen.

  7. Congratulations Anthony and The Team!!!!!!
Unfortunately I’ll be in a deep sleep when you get 100 million.
Now 3:35 pm Saturday here over the Pacific Ocean.

  8. Same number as above as I type this from Adelaide in South Australia 5.08pm Saturday 7/1/12 or in the US 1/7/12. Hot and humid but lets face it its just weather.

  9. Anthony,
This is a unique blog. Back in late 2009 when I first found out about the “silly factor” surrounding climate science, I found out about your blog I think from Icecap. Anyhow, the first time I logged on, I thought it was a student’s blog – it was just my first impression – there was such an atmosphere of innocent discovery and a true curiosity that just came through to me. It was only after a while that I figured out what a giant you have created here.
Anyhow, climate science and meteorology are not my chosen fields – I’m an engineer. But, I am also a voting citizen in a democracy so it is important to be informed and participate in discovering the truth of so-called man-made global warming – so here I am; you are stuck with me now. There is a lot to learn here, and I appreciate the forum/salon you have created.
    Congratulations on your continuing success.

  10. Finally a post that i can reply to that wont make me look stupid. 99,979.970 page views and i’m sure that at least half are down to me.Keep up the good work and i’ll keep up the lurking, all the best from Gosport south coast of England 06.62 am.

  11. It is inspiring that a blog simply devoted to discovering truth has been so incredibly successful. When one fears that all mankind has morphed into lemmings this site proves there are still inquiring, rational human minds out there. Lets toast 100,000,000 !

  12. For many, many years I felt very lonely in my reluctance to accept CAGW.
It seemed as if the whole world had swallowed the Lie and although I had my pre-Warmism
meteo data and text books, as well as my history books for support…there were times I thought that maybe I ‘was’ a nutty, fringe dwelling, contrarian denier. (not many admittedly)
One hundred million hits on a website that Google keeps stashed away on page 46…tells me that the tide has turned.
I don’t always agree with everything everyone says on here, and despite the shameful behaviour of so called Environmentalists I still think of myself as caring about the ecosphere…or habitat or whatever it’s called nowadays.
I do however value and respect the fantastic efforts (mostly unpaid) of very bright amateur Scientists who have shown up the Climategang for the nasty, greedy self aggrandizing fraudsters they so clearly are.
So, well done Anthony and Team.
    Well done FOIA.
One HUNDRED MILLION events that give us all a bit of hope.

  13. I raise my glass to WUWT, the Millennium Falcon of science blogs, as it crosses the 100M mark of visits.
Thank you, AW, and all your “mad scientist” followers (including me)!

Google search on “Global Warming” finds WUWT on page 24, it was on page 32 for me this time last week.
Thanks for all your hard work WUWT team!

  15. WUWT gets 100 million views…… The Mayan calender predicts 2012 as the end of the world.
    The two coincide!
    OMIGOD!

  17. Thanks Anthony, mods, posters, commenters, and so on. So, the first 100,000,000 took awhile. The next 100,000,000 should happen a little faster. What a hoot! Just keeps getting better. Counting . . .

  18. I guess this is a cause for more then just three cheers. Thank you Anthony for all that you have done with your site!!

Great blog. I’ve been reading for years, but this is my first comment. My congratulations, you very much deserve your success.

  22. I subscribe to the Sceptical Science site. I like to think that I can listen to both sides.
The amount of hypocrisy over there is amazing.
At least on this site everybody gets a say and posts are not deleted.
    Congratulations

  23. Congratulations! You Sir, are doing great things with electronics that many have been trying to do through print and media for the last century. Remember that there are those of us that observe , rationalize, and realize that the truth is there, just waiting to be discovered. Please continue to do the right thing, as the left thing creates little.

  24. The blog that keeps me sane when all around the warmists keep losing the science but winning the PR. Thank God for WUWT. Congratulations on this magnificent achievement gained on the back of countless volunteers and some really clever people. Wingham, Australia, 1905 hrs 7 Jan 2012.

Congrats Anthony and mods, I applaud your dedication.
Thanks all posters and commenters for the free continuing education course you all provide. I have learnt so much from you all.

  26. Anthony
Many thanks for all your work and congrats on the 100 million. I have been vastly educated by the many differing, yet politely handled, comments on your blog.

  27. Congratulations and thank you Anthony, mods and ALL guest posters. What an amazing site. I reckon your readers would be surprised how many Alarmists and CAGWers supporters visit WUWT on a regular basis but are as yet not quite ready to emerge from the closet – if you get my meaning. Anyway well done!

  28. Thank God for Anthony Watts and WattsUpWithThat – thank you for providing the world with a bulletin board for voices of reason (and simultaneously making a stand for civility…).

  29. Many congratulations Anthony and your team. Undoubtedly a very different team to “The Team.”
100million here, a 100million there, pretty soon you’ll have a really big number!
I bet RC and some other blogs look very green today, but not in the manner they would wish!

  30. Anthony,
The blogs set up to push the CAGW agenda have forgotten that the way to convert the world to their point of view is one head at a time. Being smart-alec, being rude, being holier than thou does not work. Encouraging the little jackels who scavenge round the bigs beasts and sneer at anyone who disagrees with The Cause doesn’t cut it either.
Thank you for keeping your temper (almost!) all the time, thank you for trying to meet halfway people who have no intention of giving an inch.
And thank you for publishing mixed metaphors….
    JF

  31. For isolated people the world over, who at one time feared that they might be irrational for thinking that AGW could be a scam, this blog has been a beacon of light. From BC Canada, “That’ll do Anthony, that’ll do”.

  32. Congrats on an excellent site Anthony! Maybe you should have a sign that says ” Over 100 million served”?

  34. Gee, 100 million and not a wrinkle or a dent. Congrats, Anthony!
BTW, shouldn’t the 100m be 100M or 100MM? 100m is 100 meters to me, so the headline confused me. But WUWT reaching such a milestone is a huge accomplishment.
There should be a Gold Record or something for websites.

  35. You, your contributors and your moderators, but especially YOU, Anthony, must be doing something (or some things) right! Perhaps it’s your honesty … 😉
[Reply: Agree 100%. ~ dbs, mod.]

  36. In the time I have been coming here I have watched the site become much more accepted in the wider community as a solid source of unbiased information.
The Pro AGW mob in the early days would attack a poster like rabid dogs for refernecing anything from here. They tried and failed to demean its posters and laugh off its content as the ravings of mentally defective know nothings.
Oh how things have changed, the quality and breadth of content laid these lies to rest and now large numbers of individuals view the site as the fountainhead of Propoganda free science content. Also it is a site where alternative views can be freely expressed without censorship , this assumes the poster can handle the heat of the wide and varied readers of course.
Keep up the good work and on to the next Milestone 🙂

  37. Just checked in two different computers and the number is the same: 99976143
That must mean that wordpress only calculates that once every minutes. So eventually no one will see the 100 M mark. Or maybe, several of us will…

  38. Oh one improvement would be an edit function, so one could correct daft typos after submission, when posting prior to morning coffee infusion 🙂

  39. I’m not spotting where you have your public data, but then I don’t care how many visitors you have as long as the information continues to be good.

  40. One interesting thing to note, several people get the exact same page view count. Either it is broken or the number is not updated when the page is reloaded but just at certain time intervals.
During 15 minutes the number was the same, see below.

The fourth IPCC report says on page 3,875 that when the amount of denial surpasses 100 million, the Greenland ice will instantly melt, sea level will rise 7 meters, the Gulf Stream will stop, and temperatures on the Northern Hemisphere will drop by 40 degrees Celsius. Unless the rich countries will pay ten trillion dollars per year to the IPCC and to the third world for the next 180 years.

  43. Anthony, congratulations on such an (imminent) huge milestone! As a newbie I’ve been finding WUWT to be incredibly valuable…..
100,000,000 today, and 1,000,000,000 before you know it!!
Let’s hope that long before you reach the 1B mark there is more widespread sanity in discussing these issues….

  47. Hi Anthony,
I think I said something like this when you passed 50m mark, which does not seem so long ago. You and your team, and this blog, are international treasures. In years to come this archive will be immensely helpful in unravelling the strange goings on of climate science over the past decade or so.
The number was 99,978,655 when I started this comment.
With huge congratulations and thanks from down under.

  48. Longtime lurker (well since 2009…) just wanted to thank Anthony and your mod team for such a fantastic effort. I can honestly say I am addicted to this site, and I doubt I have missed visiting it for more than a couple of days since CG1.
All the best from a rainy and cold NZ summer.

  49. Anthony,
Many congratulations to you and your team of moderators and helpers. This site is both fair and balanced. You deserve all the kudos you’re now receiving.

  52. Congraqtulations 99,980,301 views. Pages load awful slowly here in Yinchuan, China.

  53. Now only 19,700 to go, you have to profile the official 100,000,000th visitor. All the best, to all of the team, be proud, so much knowledge and experience shared with those of us who have so little on a range of subjects. Anthony, for people of the year!.

    • All – please note – it will probably not be possible for us to identify who is the actual 100,000,000th visitor or where they come from – the person might not comment. In fact we’ll only be able to pinpoint the approx. time the landmark is reached by a visitor telling us when they note it has passed the landmark. A flurry of visitors at 99,999,990 and it could be very difficult to be sure as I’m not sure if the count number updates after every single view or it jumps as it updates periodically. It’ll be interesting to see if several people make claim of being first to see the number has passed the post. Currently at 99,982,148 views.

  54. As of 4:36 am CST, we’re at 99,980,301 views.

Just for the heck of it, thought I’d check the RealClimate site: 15,279,633 (according to their SiteMeter). Way ahead there.

  60. I have to apologise for the 100,000,000 views count being slightly skewed , a couple of hundred thousand of those would be me! :vP

  61. Anthony you have once again proved the power of one. Yes you, just one person with a bee in his bonnet (a meteorologists’ concern about the siting of official temperature recording stations) has changed the world of climate science.
What a remarkable achievement. What an inspiration you are to all genuine scientists.

  62. History will show just how important your blog is. But not for it, we would have no transparent discussion of the AGW issue. Thank you Anthony, for what you do.

  63. Followed for a long time but never posted. Congrats on the milestone.
Just a question if I may (not sure where to ask).
I noticed on the Sea Ice Reference Page that the Northern Hemishere Sea Ice Anomaly was -.593 million sq km’s from the average mean and the southern was +.597 million sq km’s. Does that mean (pardon the pun) that we now have 3000 sq km’s more ice globally than the mean from 1978 to 2008 or have I grabbed the wrong end of the stick?
    Cheers

  64. Dan Grizwold in Yinchuan, your pages load slow because you use a free proxy. Mine does too, but I put up with it. My WUWT content shuttles the long route to London & back to Chongqing China, now registering 99,982,148 at 7:33 PM local time.

Congratulations to all who contribute, moderate, post – and especially to Anthony who made and makes it possible.
Certainly one reason for getting the 100.000.000 views is the mixture of fun contributions and the very high-powered scientific debates one can find here at WUWT.
I don’t mind saying that the UCT threads and the ensuing debates make me feel as if I’m back in school and am allowed to listen in to some eminent professors debating issues I can just about grasp, learning all the time. I love it!

  68. Note from the last few comments that the view counter only updates about every 5 minutes and now that the East coast has woken up we’re proably on 100-150 views per minute. As I said earlier – there will be no one person ideantifiable as the hundred millionth visitor.

  72. Congratulations to all concerned. While I am not necessarily of the same political view of many who post and comment here, I do share the interest of most contributors in finding out what we can about the workings of Earth’s climate system(s), and the potential impacts (if any) that mankind’s activities may be having on it (them).
One thing that I have learned over the years that I have been visiting, is that what we don’t know far exceeds, by orders of magnitude, what we do know. And I have learned that the people on one side are more open to discussion and dissent than are those on the other side. When I first started reading climate blogs, I very quickly discovered where to go if I wanted to find out facts, rather than opinions.

  87. Congrats! Anthony and all the volunteers deserve a great big thank you.
BSM @ 4:12, Mike Mann and Grant Foster can easily process those numbers to show that RC has more visitors, and the results will be……..robust.

  88. Congratulations, Anthony! Your blog has been a fantastic source of science & climate information. However, I think the work you did on the HSCN sites is even more important. You proved that our data is riddled with huge errors and the US temps out of NASA GISS are bogus. GIGO!
It will take this site a lot less time to hit 200m. Especially if FOIA releases the encryption code and the veil over AGW is blown away. May that day come sooner than later!

  89. Its 7th Jan 2012 here in a sunny Sussex UK, and I have just spotted my first daffodil and camellia in flower.
    Is this a record?
This must be introconvertible proof of something:-)

  90. I reckon the 100,000,000 mark will turn up sometime before 07:30am PST. Unfortunately it is now clear the view counter does not update often enough that we’ll know exactly, however, perhaps someone at WordPress may be able to check their software if it has captured the time somewhere and let Anthony know

  91. My linear computer model, with a R squared of 0.962 predicts that the mark is very likely to be attained at 17:00 GMT, which gives us some assurance that that will be the only thing that will not happen.

    • @Joshualdo
LOL And of course you have assumed a linear relationship when in fact a most important and often overlooked factor to consider is natural variability 😉 (in this case the natural daily cycle)

  92. 100,000,000…now that’s a lot of candles on the cake! WUWT denizens, how about a symbolic gesture when the number comes up…We all light a candle to celebrate WUWT, beacons of enlightenment around the globe and gestures of defiance against thought control…and think of all the co2 we going to emit!

  93. You realise this is just the start – more power to you Anthony I wish you all the strength and determination to keep on the job.

  94. George Washington Carver said:
“How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these”
Congratulations from a member of the second group.

  96. Congratulations to Anthony and his “team” for all their hard work. Best of luck in 2012 as the Global Warming Scam continues to crumble.

  97. “And behold there shall come amidst the prophets of doom, a voice crying in the blogosphere of one who is mighty in blog-craft and mathematics!
His words and those of his disciples will be great in the world, and they will speak unto the nations with a loud voice, and be heard.
Then shall the nations once again become acquainted with the truth, and there shall be weeping amongst those of unclean lips, and those who utter falsehood in the land.
Then shall the people rejoice in their freedom, and the nations be renewed in scientific honesty and acumen.
And they shall call his name ‘Anthony’, and he will be triumphant even to the number and extent of 100,000,000 and beyond!
And it was so……!” ~ The book of Science and Learning “(circa) 2012.

  98. Congratulations to Anthony and your team! Keep those good quality post coming. I enjoy reading your site every day.

  99. Congratulations! 100M is quite an accomplishment. The only thing most people have done 100M+ times is, have their heart beat (by ~3.2 yrs old), breathe (~16 yrs old), or blink (~48 old, assuming 1 blink every 10 seconds for 16 waking hours/day).
Best regards to you, yours, and the moderators!

  100. Like a modern day John Chapman (AKA Johnny Appleseed), Anthony Watts is spreading seeds of truth all over the world.
    Anthony,
Thanks so much for all you do and the totally classy way that you do it. Few people in history have had as big an impact as you… and I suspect you’re just getting started. I don’t know if you smoke cigars or not, but if you do, today would be a good day for partaking in a super premium. Might I suggest a Fuente Fuente Opus X….

  101. BTW, might i suggest that you change the banner graphic to include fireworks and a prominent “Over 100,000,000 views!” message. You have earned the right to boast a little!

Ah, natural variability, what natural variability? Like, people are waking up in America??? That’s the problem with den****, scientists have all the work proving solid beer-reviewed science and den**** just come up and say something from the top of our (oops) heads and we are supposed to listen!
You can’t possibly beat a R2=0.963 linear, zero intercept least squares model. That’s as robust as it gets. That’s incontrovertible. There’s a wide, 97% consensus on that. I mean, only a d***** would believe otherwise 🙂
Prepare for 17:00 GMT !!!!! Remember accumulated page views at WUWT correlate perfectly with Mauna Loa CO2! Ah, and methane too!
/sarc off, just in case, ah ah

    100M – AWESOME !!!!!
On a warm Jan/Sat in Michigan and nary a drop o’ snow !!!

  104. Now, if we could get every viewer to drop just one dollar in the tip jar…this blog will live forever…

  105. It signifies the victory of science over superstition and cognitive dissonance.
Congrats Tony, CTM, TOM (The Other Moderators) and the thoughtful posters. Together they and we will defend science.

  106. Congratulations on your achievement. This is a reflection of your due diligence and is no small feat. A lot of time and hard work on you and your teams’ behalf. It seems appropriate that your new year starts off with a 1 followed by 9 zeros. Too bad there is not a $ in front of that.. Maybe Exxon-Mobile can help you out there? 🙂
I was kind of curious. I wanted to see how the stats were counted. So at approx. 08:50 EST your front page blog was at:
    • Blog Stats
I then clicked on the 100m story and the counter increased to:
    • Blog Stats
I then went back to the front page and the number reverted to 99,989,204.
I then closed that tab, cleared the cache, and re-opened WUWT, same 99,989,204, the number from earlier.
Only when I manually cleared out the contents after http://wattsupwiththat.com from the address bar then my front page updated with the correct stats. So I don’t think anyone can scam the system by just refreshing the pages. Your stats are true numbers, unlike the results from certain AGW institutions…

  109. Anthony,
This website surely deserves the accolades and attention it gets.
I have greatly benefited from your efforts.

  110. Well done Anthony and his team of moderators, it’s reassuring to have a place where science comes ahead of ideology and dogma…

  111. Anthony,
If you could add shopping, banking, stock market and birding functions you’d have all my traffic. lol
Congratulations, and thank you for your dedication to finding the truth about climate.
    Chris B

  112. Well earned Anthony Watts!
This blog shows that science can survive the vicious attacks of the non-scientists posturing as “Post-Modern, Post-Normal,” post-understanding “climate scientists.”
As my professors at the ETH said on more than one occasion, if they have to put science in the name, it isn’t science. Science is HOW sapient species learn about the universe, NOT what they claim to do.

  113. Well, it seems my comment got lost somehow, so I’m rewriting it. If it gets duplicated, sorry about that.

/long sarc on, just in case ah ah
What, natural variability? What, diurnal cycle? What, people waking up in America? How can you come up with that? That’s typical de***r stuff, cycles. If that were real, there would be a correction factor for that.
How can you say that a computer mathematical model, based on a extremely robust zero intercept least-squares fit with a R-squared of 0.963 (done with that Excel hi-tech thing) doesn’t incontrovertibly predict the future? There’s a 97% consensus on that.
The problem with de***rs is that scientists do robust, beer-reviewed science typing away on their keyboards, then all de***rs have to do is say things from the top of their heads and decent scientists have to listen to them and, God forbid, provide the data and methods too? How can one do science if one keeps being pestered with requests for how one did it?
Nah! Me wants me grants and me PlayStations and me minions! Arrh arrh arrh!
Prepare for 17:00 GMT!!!! And don’t forget that accumulated pageviews at WUWT correlate perfectly with Mauna Loa CO2! Ah, and methane, let’s not forget that!

Previous Saturday counts from my tracking at http://home.comcast.net/~ewerme/wuwt/index.html (The counts there are for the end of the day. I think.):

    Dec 31-30: 99,398,633 - 99,328,024 = 70,609
    Dec 24-23: 98,917,252 - 98,860,676 = 56,576

    • @Joshualdo
While I realise you are following an accepted methodology, your computer model in this case underestimates the rate of accumulation. It seems I may have overestimated by using a value of daylight forcing that was at the top end of the acceptable range (a ‘climategate value’).
Actually, I’m not going to post a revised estimate as I do have an unfair advantage and I reckon I won’t be too far off.

  116. Things are strange in this posting. My 2 comments appeared, finally, awaiting moderation..
I then exited the browser and then reopened WUWT and my comments are gone.. And it looks like others may be having issues too..
    Anyway, one more shot…
at 09:30 EST you are at 99,992,199 views
In my previous, unsuccessful post, i stated:
It seems appropriate that your new year starts off with a 1 followed by 9 zeros. Too bad there is not a $ in front of that.. Maybe Exxon-Mobile can help you out there?
Well, I can’t count, 100m is 8 zeros. But I do wish you all of the best and a prosperous new year.
    Congratulations…

  117. Sorry for the triple post!! There was no sign, for the first three attempts, that the text had reached the system.
And where I say, “Got though!” in the previous post, I mean “Got through!”, of course!
Sorry again for the triple post. The usual system feedback didn’t occur.

  118. ANTHONY/MODS…. if you can narrow it down to a single person do they get a new coffee cup? Mine has gotten quite stained while glued to this AGW saga over the years and I just might stay and go for it, that split-second 100,000,000th press of the so often hit… [ Post Comment ]. ☺
Anthony, moderators, guest posters, commentators, lurkers (and, ok, warmists and trolls) and their supportive families, you have done it. This is by all means the most amazing science story of our times. An open and mostly serious avenue to exchange ideas and knowledge about the science of our physical world and atmosphere that has taken climate science one giant leap right out of the late nineteenth century mentality so embedded within the climate computer models today. Anthony, you have lead this to history, no doubt about it!

  119. The consensus in in! I’m a DENIER because I love my quantum mechanics (damned quantum jumping…)! This blog is fantastic because the consensus-ites are taken to task and simply asked to ‘show their work’.so that it might be held to scrutiny. Sadly, for some, that’s asking too much. Oh, well!

  120. Anthony, guest writers, moderators;
It was about a year ago that I first started following your site to gain a better understanding of the technical, social, political and economic points of view around climate, weather and energy. I look forward to my email inbox for the latest updates. As the 1912 edition of The Old Farmer’s Almanac says- “Human progress in large measure consists in acquisition of mastery”
Your site has helped me gain some understanding in the complexities- thanks for all you and the team do.
“Weather forecasting in 1792 was what you might call an imperfect science. Today, it still is.” Farmers Almanac

  121. Wouldn’t it be appropriate if Anthony & Co. got another WebLog award on the same year his web site breached 100,000,000 hits?

RE: Joe Zeise says:January 7, 2012 at 7:08 am: “I switched……from Drudge to WUWT as my home page a year ago”
Drudge is pretty much useless, and not just on climategate etc. issues. For a guy who claims to have made his bones covering what no one else would (Lewinsky), he’s remarkably silent on a lot of damned serious issues… until their well and thoroughly covered elsewhere.
Drudge’s recent emphasis on Prison Planet “reports” doesn’t do a lot for whatever credibility he might have had.
But, I confess, sometimes I do still check Drudge out. For much the same reason I’ll glance at the National Inquirer in check out lines: some mild amusement during a brief period of boredom. But certainly not for edification or enlightenment.

  128. I follow your site with barely google translator because my English proficiency is limited. Even if this translation is not correct.
Antony, I congratulate him for his battle against the lie of global warming, and finding items to prove it. Although this summer in Argentina is terribly dry and temperatures have exceeded several times 40 ° C. And that is nothing that effects of La Niña. Then leave the Spanish text, in one of those you speak Spanish, haha!.

  136. UPDATE: Anyone who can get the screencap showing the counter at 100,000,000 on the right sidebar will get a free 100 million coffee cup with a special cartoon from Josh – Anthony

It appears from comments here that WordPress updates the count at some interval, not with each page served. Bummer. I do have a capture of the HTML at

  147. At 10:05 am CST, it has been stuck at 99,999,962 views. I’ve hit it at least 38 times since it became stuck there.
Is there a conspiracy here to win the precious coffee cup?

  148. I think the 8,331 visits WUWT got in the last hour have confused the hit counter.
I managed to get screen captures at 99,999,962 and then it jumped to 100,004,397
    Did anyone get anything closer?

  149. I also have 100,004,397. I guess it is a tie then and we all get free coffee cups!
    Congratulations Anthony.

  150. 100,004,397

    …or for your movie…sorry if I am being inconvenient…but it’s the Truth!
Or the temperature of the room, which should never be faked…, especially for a Senate hearing…right, Dr. Hansen…

    @Joshualdo
While I realise you are following an accepted methodology, your computer model in this case underestimates the rate of accumulation.

    Ah, those trends…
Actually, I’m not going to post a revised estimate as I do have an unfair advantage and I reckon I won’t be too far off.
    LOL.
Congratulations everyone! And let’s not forget to include Kenji Watts, The Concerned Scientist 🙂 and hopefully IPCC reviewer.
Now, the big unanswered question still is: where’s the party? 🙂

See, Verity Jones? So my incredibly hi-tech Excel (liar, liar, it’s OpenOffice) spreadsheet was spot on! Maybe it was just the DST… or lacking a little fudge factor… or basic arithmetic… or number theory… or parallax error … 🙂

  160. I slept through the big event… oh well….
    see you at 1 billion….. it won’t be long… growth feeds growth…
Congrats Anthony…It is clear you love the discipline of science.

~dbs, mod.]

Thanks for another amazing stat, and for the reminder, dbs 🙂

  162. 100,049,172 views at 07:13 Sunday morning Thailand time. I was in the Pattaya Beergarden last night when the 100 million broke.
OK – when will Real Climate get 100 million hits? My guess is at 5000 ppm CO2.

  163. Currently 100,051,629 views, so we’re talking upward of 50,000 views per day. I ‘advertise’ WUWT on my own website, and frequently on Rantburg and Facebook. I hope I’ve had some small hand in reaching this number beyond my own personal views. The more people who read WUWT, the better off the world will be. The more people learn and understand how poorly we really understand climate, the less the possibility of the warmenistas winning their battle to destroy civilization as we know it. It’s a battle worth fighting! Here’s to our general, Anthony Watts!

  164. Anthony,
It is too bad that you took the weekend off working on your comouter, because we had planned a party for you and apparently you didn’t see the invite. Invitations went out to everyone, but the Aussies didn’t show up because they won’t get their invites until yesterday…
A lot of your commenters showed up to party and to help. Willis almost didn’t make it, since he hitchiked and all. Wayne set off some fireworks; Gareth Phillips brought dancing girls and chocolate; Dave and Jorgen F. brought some nice but stinky cigars; Chris B was trying to sell carbon credits, but no one took him up on the deal; Tallbloke was here with his computers, but he wouldn’t let them out of his sight; Verity Jones made a quick trip here, but spent her evening out digging in the clay out back ( not sure what that was about). Beth Cooper helped me light 100,000,000 candles on the cake ( and believe me it was hard to find a cake big enough for all the candles) but R Gates blew them all out because of all the CO2 produced.
Orkneygal and DaveR brought beer; BernardJ contributed some fine champagne; and Stephen Brown had some very smooth whisky. Jimmy Haigh, newtlove and catweazle666 also contributed, or at least owned up to having a few. We won’t even talk about Bloke down the pub. We also had lots of fizzy non-alcoholic drinks for those who don’t drink alcohol.
Slide rules came out as the engineering types showed each other their latest calculations. Bob Tisdale unfurled a roll of charts that would choke a horse and there were some heated discussions from that corner of the room. I had to take some hockey sticks away from a few of the guests, who were a little too enthusiastic in the house, especially with so many guests. I think I saw Mike, Phil, Kevin and Ben peering over the fence, but they never ventured into the house. Maybe Verity out digging holes in the yard scared them off.
Smokey stopped by, as did Lubos Motl, E.M.Smith, Mike Bromley and even Mr. Lynn. I was surprised when Lord Monckton dropped in.(literally) I know I didn’t see everyone, but most signed the guest book. The consensus was that you missed a great party, and we plan to have another when you reach your next milestone.
    Congratulations. Judy F

  165. Here you go Kevin (transplaned from the old NorCal site): Day One

    Thanks Dr Bill!

  166. @Josualdo
If you happen to see this – apologies for consistently adding ‘h’ into your name. It seems in all the excitement I was not reading properly.

  167. I should like to add my heartfelt congratulations to Anthony Watts and all those who have made this site such a huge success, although, as an Arts rather than Science person, I am unable to contribute to the contents itself. The only thing, I suspect, I did contribute was the term “pal review”, which Professor Jerome Ravetz gave currency through one of his contributions, after a comment of mine on an earlier article of his, referring to me as “one witty blogger”. I can see, however, that the truth-seeking sceptics are right and the agenda-driven alarmists deadwrong.
One question though: would it not be possbile to provide the number of commenters (after all theiir email address is bound to have been stored somewhere) and also the number of article writers with the number of contributions to to their credit? Surely, this would add some more interesting information on the success of this site!
Also I wholeheartedly agree with Willis Eschenbach’s wish that many more commenters would feel they can afford the luxury of writing under their own name.
