100m countup open thread

UPDATE: Anyone who can get the screencap showing the counter at 100,000,000 on the right sidebar will get a free 100 million coffee cup with a special cartoon from Josh – Anthony

Hilary Ostrov writes via email:

Not sure where else to post this so that you will see it, but as I write, your blogstats are sitting at 99,965,942 views … so your blog is rapidly approaching a very significant milestone – which I anticipate will probably be reached within the next day or so (if not sooner!)

May I suggest that you start a Countup thread, so that lurkers and fans may express their thoughts as this milestone approaches … This will build excitement and traffic – and confound the “powers that wannabe”, I’m sure 😉

On one hand it thought to myself “it’s just a number, no big deal” on the other hand I thought “this only comes once, and a number of people have emailed me about it, so there must be some excitement going on”.

So, who am I to argue with the lady? Sound off below.

I hope we have put this CAGW behemoth to bed before we reach 200m mark.

History will show just how important your blog is. But not for it, we would have no transparent discussion of the AGW issue. Thank you Anthony, for what you do.

Followed for a long time but never posted. Congrats on the milestone.
Just a question if I may (not sure where to ask).
I noticed on the Sea Ice Reference Page that the Northern Hemishere Sea Ice Anomaly was -.593 million sq km’s from the average mean and the southern was +.597 million sq km’s. Does that mean (pardon the pun) that we now have 3000 sq km’s more ice globally than the mean from 1978 to 2008 or have I grabbed the wrong end of the stick?
Cheers

Dan Grizwold in Yinchuan, your pages load slow because you use a free proxy. Mine does too, but I put up with it. My WUWT content shuttles the long route to London & back to Chongqing China, now registering 99,982,148 at 7:33 PM local time.

@Truthseeker
We were looking at the site at the same time 99 981 287.
I was thinking of the same suggestion of a prize for a screenshot of 100,000,000 but couldn’t think of anything suitable to suggest. A signed Josh cartoon is a great idea.
Amazing how WUWT is linking us all altogether.
Brett 🙂

At 11.30 GMT, the count is 99,983,249 views!
And the view from Cardiff (Wales) is sunny and mild – put that in your pipe and smoke it, AGWers!
Congratulations to all who contribute, moderate, post – and especially to Anthony who made and makes it possible.
Certainly one reason for getting the 100.000.000 views is the mixture of fun contributions and the very high-powered scientific debates one can find here at WUWT.
I don’t mind saying that the UCT threads and the ensuing debates make me feel as if I’m back in school and am allowed to listen in to some eminent professors debating issues I can just about grasp, learning all the time. I love it!

Note from the last few comments that the view counter only updates about every 5 minutes and now that the East coast has woken up we’re proably on 100-150 views per minute. As I said earlier – there will be no one person ideantifiable as the hundred millionth visitor.

Ever since I first stumbled into WUWT I have been impressed by the quality, quantity, and highly informative debate, matched by few other sites.I have learned a lot, thanks Anthony.

Verity Jones – at around 3:15am – do you not have a life … or sleep?
Here I am at 10:45pm on a Saturday night, so I guess I am throwing stones from a glass house.

Congratulations to all concerned. While I am not necessarily of the same political view of many who post and comment here, I do share the interest of most contributors in finding out what we can about the workings of Earth’s climate system(s), and the potential impacts (if any) that mankind’s activities may be having on it (them).
One thing that I have learned over the years that I have been visiting, is that what we don’t know far exceeds, by orders of magnitude, what we do know. And I have learned that the people on one side are more open to discussion and dissent than are those on the other side. When I first started reading climate blogs, I very quickly discovered where to go if I wanted to find out facts, rather than opinions.

Cold, wet, windy summer here in Wellington. Please sent all that NH heat you have to spare down our way!
And thank you to all the Contributors, Moderators and Commenters for their efforts in support of the magnificent Mr Watts and his site.
May 2012 be a magnificent year for the truth seekers and bring up that 200,000,000 on the counter.
Again, thank you for all for this magnificent site.

My brother just suggested this might be what we all need
100,000,000 bottles of beer on the wall.
100,000,000 bottles of beer.
Take one down, pass it around and
99,999,999 bottles of beer on the wall
99,999,999 bottles of beer…etc.

Very impressive number. Very interesting site. Congratulations, Anthony and contributors..
I wonder how quickly the 200 milliom milestone will be reached. Any scientific estimates? Looks like something forecasters could not resist thinking about.

By far the most informative site for everything related to AGW, Climate Change and the frankly Machiavellian politics underpinning the meme.
Anthony is a star, I hope his tremendous contribution to the downfall of fake CAGW as a means to extort taxes is long remembered and formally recognised for the great service done on behalf of us all.
99,984,194 and counting…… fast approaching DOUBLE the population of the UK.

Oops…sorry…that is RealClimate.org
Mmm, while I am here, for the comparison…..
RC:
15 million hits since Novv 2004 (first post I could find in Archive) http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2004/11/pca-details/#more-9
WUWT:
100,000,000 since Nov 2006 (two years after!).
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2006/11/17/welcome-to-watts-up-with-that/
with Juanita Sumner being your first commentor (maybe deserves a signed Josh original also).
The statistics sort of tell a story…
Congratulations. You deserve it.
Brett.
