In where I get my own nuclear explosion for Christmas

It’s getting onto the time when we just let other cares fall away and focus on family and friends, and what holiday season would be complete without some fireworks when they all get together? 😉

The Weekly Roundup from the Daily Bayonet is out, and I got quite the chuckle from the photo and caption, enough so that I want to drive some traffic there. Oh and there’s some brilliant writing too:

Let’s hope Roberts’ argument carries the day, because every time he and his warmist friends ring the global warming alarm bell, another skeptic gets his wings.

Be sure to vote on their poll.

That said, I wish you all a Merry Christmas.

Posting may be erratic starting tomorrow through Monday as like many of you I’m in the last minute panic trying to get everything done so relatives won’t have have anything to complain about.

Merry Christmas to all.
Anthony, you should have embedded the video ·”Christmas at ground zero” by Weird Al Yankovik. I think it is way more appropriate. 😛

Anthony,
Best wishes for the Christmas season.
FWIW, I’ve given up on pleasing my MIL. Some things are impossible, energy wise.

How about a nuclear explosion, I mean nuclear reaction, in every car?

Interesting. Via the daily Bayonette,
Richard Branson jokingly suggests to kill off climate change skeptics by sending them to space.
http://www.grist.org/climate-skeptics/2011-12-16-new-approach-to-climate-deniers-launch-them-into-space
I will not respond in kind; but calling for a boycott of all Virgin products is a more than modest response under these circumstances I think.

Dirk,
I think the reporter has it wrong. I saw this earlier, only it was reported as Rajendra Pachauri being the one who made the comment. I believe it was Andy Revkin in the NYT who reported this, going on to call for Pachauri to resign due to conflict of interest. Revkin thinks he crosses the line too often into political activisim.
So lets not start calling for boycotts until you are sure of your information.

@DirkH
I agree. Branson is clearly off his tree – and as I’m a Virginmedia customer, he can kiss goodbye to my subscription in the New Year. What a twonk!

crosspatch under the past thread on North Korea implored everyone to read this fine article on upcoming safe nuclear power and minimized waste:
http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=smarter-use-of-nuclear-waste
That’s a good read! Thanks crosspatch.
But this is a good point to add this more detailed article of all of the nuclear reactors, past, present, and future that are designed to never have one those mushrooms above to ever occur due to us world citizens having generous nuclear generated electricity for all:
(the emphasis is on fast neutron designs but you will also find some thorium and traveling-wave mixed in and including all of the pluses and minuses of each)
http://www.world-nuclear.org/info/inf98.html
Things are definitely on the move on the nuclear front! Merry Christmas all!

“Dirk,
I think the reporter has it wrong. ”
Ok, let’s wait and see. I’ll stay in a provisional boycott position until we know more. Precautionary principle.

December 22, 2011 11:17 am

Ok. I didn’t read the whole of the GRIST article; it ends with an update:
“Editor’s Note:
This article by Mark Hertsgaard was criticized following publication by Rajendra Pachauri, the chair of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, who said that the article badly misquoted his remarks at the “Extreme Climate Risks and California’s Future” conference. Via email, Dr. Pachauri denied he said anything about giving climate change deniers “a one-way ticket to space.” That joking comment, Pachauri went on, was actually made by Sir Richard Branson”
So, first they said Pachauri made the remark, later, when Pachauri protested, they corrected the writeup and it is Branson now.
I change my provisional boycott into a permanent one again. Ah, good old precautionary principle; save money and do something good at the same time.

Anthony,
Thank you for the best education in basic science and quite a bit more – truly “continuing education”, much better than what I’d get at any college or university today.
Merry Christmas to you, to the Mods, and all the regulars and lurkers!
