In where I get my own nuclear explosion for Christmas

It’s getting onto the time when we just let other cares fall away and focus on family and friends, and what holiday season would be complete without some fireworks when they all get together? 😉

The Weekly Roundup from the Daily Bayonet is out, and I got quite the chuckle from the photo and caption, enough so that I want to drive some traffic there. Oh and there’s some brilliant writing too:

Let’s hope Roberts’ argument carries the day, because every time he and his warmist friends ring the global warming alarm bell, another skeptic gets his wings.

Be sure to vote on their poll.

That said, I wish you all a Merry Christmas.

Posting may be erratic starting tomorrow through Monday as like many of you I’m in the last minute panic trying to get everything done so relatives won’t have have anything to complain about.

  1. And a Merry Christmas to you as well! And thank you for all you do!
In fact I will extend the seasons greetings and thanks to all who participate in forum.

  2. Merry Christmas to all.
Anthony, you should have embedded the video ·”Christmas at ground zero” by Weird Al Yankovik. I think it is way more appropriate. 😛

  3. Merry Christmas, Anthony! And to all your remarkable contributors and moderators – thanks! All the best in the New Year.

  4. Anthony,
Best wishes for the Christmas season.
FWIW, I’ve given up on pleasing my MIL. Some things are impossible, energy wise.

  5. Anthony and all the mods,
Merry Christmas! Many thanks for all the hard work you do.
Enjoy your families and the time you spend with them.
    Judy F.

  6. Dirk,
I think the reporter has it wrong. I saw this earlier, only it was reported as Rajendra Pachauri being the one who made the comment. I believe it was Andy Revkin in the NYT who reported this, going on to call for Pachauri to resign due to conflict of interest. Revkin thinks he crosses the line too often into political activisim.
So lets not start calling for boycotts until you are sure of your information.

  7. @DirkH
I agree. Branson is clearly off his tree – and as I’m a Virginmedia customer, he can kiss goodbye to my subscription in the New Year. What a twonk!

  8. Oops – I forgot to wish you ALL – a jolly good christmas and happy new year!
as always, a special thanks to Anthony, all the posters and not forgetting the mods for a sterling job!!
chow guiys, and have a good one!

  9. Merry Christmas to all … now I’m off for some last minute strolling round the stores to get a couple little goodies to wrap up the season.

  10. crosspatch under the past thread on North Korea implored everyone to read this fine article on upcoming safe nuclear power and minimized waste:
    http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=smarter-use-of-nuclear-waste
That’s a good read! Thanks crosspatch.
But this is a good point to add this more detailed article of all of the nuclear reactors, past, present, and future that are designed to never have one those mushrooms above to ever occur due to us world citizens having generous nuclear generated electricity for all:
(the emphasis is on fast neutron designs but you will also find some thorium and traveling-wave mixed in and including all of the pluses and minuses of each)
    http://www.world-nuclear.org/info/inf98.html
Things are definitely on the move on the nuclear front! Merry Christmas all!

    “Dirk,

Ok, let’s wait and see. I’ll stay in a provisional boycott position until we know more. Precautionary principle.

  12. Ok. I didn’t read the whole of the GRIST article; it ends with an update:
    “Editor’s Note:
This article by Mark Hertsgaard was criticized following publication by Rajendra Pachauri, the chair of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, who said that the article badly misquoted his remarks at the “Extreme Climate Risks and California’s Future” conference. Via email, Dr. Pachauri denied he said anything about giving climate change deniers “a one-way ticket to space.” That joking comment, Pachauri went on, was actually made by Sir Richard Branson”
So, first they said Pachauri made the remark, later, when Pachauri protested, they corrected the writeup and it is Branson now.
I change my provisional boycott into a permanent one again. Ah, good old precautionary principle; save money and do something good at the same time.

  13. Anthony,
Thank you for the best education in basic science and quite a bit more – truly “continuing education”, much better than what I’d get at any college or university today.
Merry Christmas to you, to the Mods, and all the regulars and lurkers!

  14. Another non-commercial Christmas for us. In a way, I find that’s better anyway. Family is more important than buying a bunch of junk anyway. It’s hard to feel warm and cozy in the new economy. And many thanks to government policy for bringing another year of holiday joy to my family.
Sarcasm doesn’t begin to express my emotions on that topic.

  15. Dirk…. Branson and RJ should be the first to go! IMHO 🙂
Anthony et all ……. A Very Happy Christmas, safe and prosperous New Year. AGAIN thanks for all your hard work on our behalf. . There is ONE reason for the Season, Blessings One and ALL.

  16. A very Merry Christmas to you, Anthony, and to your family!

    Merry Christmas, Lurkers and Look-i-Loos!
    Merry Christmas, Everyone!!!!
Whodda thunk we would see the Christmas when getting a lump of coal in your stocking would be a GOOD thing, as compared to worthless ‘carbon credits’?
Here’s a little warped Christmas cheer from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, by a band called Da Yoopers!!!

  19. Happy away from work time!
    Peace to you and yours.
    Happy skiing!
    Let love reign.
Say a prayer that tower blades stay ON the towers this winter!
And thanks for such a wonderful site Anthony and crew.

  20. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to Anthony, the moderators and readers. May you get coal in your stocking only if you want it!

  21. we all know there are massive doubts about sensitivity, positives, negatives and such
but what are the data on kissing models under the mistletoe.
ouch! my wife has a strong view. and a pointy elbow

  23. Merry Christmas to everyone here. Thank you all for a very educational year. And a prosperous and educational New Year too.

  24. The best of the Season

to all of the denizens here.
May you all take great pleasure
    in those you most treasure
and enjoy the next days in good cheer!
Merry Christmas to Anthony and The MODS (doo-wop do-waahhh!).

  25. Happy Christmas Anthony, family, mods, and readers of this blog, and may it live long, prosper and hit 100 million by New Year.
You should put a clause in your blog purpose – to preserve the sanity of all those oppressed by consensus thinking. Whoops! “Everyone knows there ain’t no sanity clause!” (h/t. Marx bros).

  26. Merry and Happy to All (even including Al, Jim, Phil, and the Team)
“Love your enemies, it will drive them crazy.”
“Sometimes, not often enough, We reflect upon the good things.” (Thanks, Henry)
Let us hope for a New Year filled with peace, prosperity, logic, and reason.
(now, why does that video remind me of the ending to Dr. Strangelove?)

  28. Merry Christmas, Chappy Chanukkah, Happy Winter Solstice, Good Yule, as appropriate, to one and all.

  29. Anthony and everyone else, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. (NOT interesting! That’s an ancient Chinese curse).

    EO,
I have insufficient data to provide trend analysis. Alas, I can only relate a single data point from New Years 1983. The model was a willowy and rare blend of software and firmware, compiled high enough to nearly look me in the eyes (I’m 6’1″),… and just glitchy enough to make for a very interesting evening of stimu…. er, simulation. This particular model demonstrated insensitivity to initial inputs but subsequent efforts yielded a surprising sensitivity increase with a corresponding warming trend. While a gentleman must not speak of ‘do loops, if/then commands, high N iterations leading to definitive solutions’ and such… Suffice to say ‘it was a memorable evening’… but one data point does not make a trend!
While I would dearly love to pursue this line of research in much greater detail, I lack sufficient opportunities… probably because I am no longer a ‘model citizen’ myself. Que lastima…
Perhaps you could suggest your Lady try a dab of Vermonts Original Bag Balm, to smooth and soften those hard, pointy elbows? Er…. maybe not… };>)
    Merry Christmas to you Both!

  31. As we celebrate the birth of Him who is the prince of peace and the light of the world, we can only pray that some light would dawn in the heads of those who think models make the climate.
God bless you and yours this Christmas.

  32. I hate to be a bit picky but this video is not from Christmas Island, it is from the Operation Crossroads tests on Bikini Atoll in 1946. I have an interest in these matters as my father was severely irradiated whilst observing the British H-Bomb tests off Christmas Island (S Pacific, not Indian Ocean) in 1957. Keep up the great work, WUWT !
    A solid rolled-gold Climate Skeptic 🙂

  33. A merry Christmas to Anthony, to all his moderating elves, and to other commenters, and may 2012 prove … not too apocalyptic. 🙂
    God bless us, every one.

  34. Merry Christmas Mr. Watts.
2012 is nigh and I have a slogan for the new year
“Why worry about global warming when the Mayan Armageddon is here.”
I can’t wait for the Mayan calendar alarmists. I know there out there.
    Metamorphosized Y2Kers probably.

  35. Thanks Anthony, for the generous link to my little corner of the blogosphere, and for keeping WUWT a must-read resource for anyone interested in what’s up with global warming
Merry Christmas to you and yours.

  36. tried posting Thur evening – guess it went to cloud heaven?
Dateline Central Washington State – Situation ‘cold’
Because the USA claims winter begins on the December Solstice (12:30 a.m. EST on the 22nd) [I’m in the PSTZ] we here can now shout “Welcome Winter” and did celebrate with a Solstice Party last night.
Anthony questions “. . . what holiday season would be complete without some fireworks . . .”
Take a look at the storm systems moving across the USA this week and into Christmas Day. With snow in the west and thunderstorms in the east there has been and continues to be a tremendous release of energy across the Nation. I wonder how it compares with the A-Bomb?
No fireworks outside my windows, however. Just cold. 7 degrees F this morning. Forecasters are trying to catch up with the falling temperature. For Friday AM the forecast was 21o F., now lowered to 18o. At 8:53 p.m. the temperature is 16o. Oops!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays and New Year to Anthony and Family, the moderators, regulars, lurkers, and trolls.

  37. Oops, indeed. My copy and repost just now messed with the degree symbol (Alt 0176) as the text went from MS-Word to WordPress.
