"Justice has been done" – UPDATE: Osama Bin Laden compound found on Google Earth

That quote from president Obama tonight. The story here

“Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet” – Afghan proverb

UPDATE #3: Zeroing in on the compound. Threes a charm. Like anything in the fog of war, early reports can be erroneous. The first two seemed plausible, especially the second one with the high walls. Now the official Google Earth Blog weighs in:

[UPDATE: The location has essentially been confirmed by the BBC

(via Ogle Earth).] You can fly there with this KML file or view the image below:

The Pentagon has released this photo, which matches:

A powerpoint from the Pentagon is here (PDF) which shows the details.

UPDATE: I have the compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan mapped on Google Earth below:

Lat/Lon  34.146371°  73.216925°  Google Maps  It sure looks like a fortress. I’m betting they special forces landed the copters in the field to the east, near the blue roofed building, which is the Government Post Graduate College No.1 Another view here

UPDATE2: The Atlantic’s story was wrong, here is the (likely) correct location:

Lat/lon 34.187663° 73.242617° See it on Google Maps

Here it is with the PMA Kakul Military academy mentioned in news reports h/t to Ryan Maue:

Wikipedia has already made an update about the PMA Kakul Military academy:

In May 2011, the US military conducted a raid and killed Osama bin Laden in a compound less than 1 km from Burn Hall Army Academy in Abbottabad. Burn Hall is a junior academy that feeds the Pakistan Military Academy. Bin Laden’s extended refuge near the academy is cited as evidence of the Pakistani government’s collusion with al Qaeda.

That places the compound back near the city center where we originally placed it from reports by The Atlantic. The compound originally identified din’t quite match the news reports.(see image below).

The imagery of the compound above described as “very high walled” matches the image of the white building and the tall white walls around it. I also just saw some helmet cam video of the scene in flames, and the white walls were visible.

The Google added red pointer location for OBL’s compound Abottabad in their database in the images above was originally near the city center, See below for the original placment Google had. But the pointer lat/lon has been updated within the last hour to the new location near PMA Kakul shown above. I think the locations above are correct, as they match news accounts much better.

Egad! I am astonished to encounter gullible conspiracy-mongers on WUWT.

Yeah, me too, a bit. Obviously there’s alot of daily misinformation from the Obama regime, but to try & mislead about something like bin Laden’s death is way overboard & would quickly be found out. Obama’s contemptible, but not completely stupid — especially about covering his own butt.
As an aside, it’s amusing that the MSM is now referring to bin Laden as Usama bin Laden, to deflect attention from the similarity of Osama to Obama.

Yea, just like they meted out justice to Milosivec! The only thing that could have been better is if they wrapped his body in bacon and fed him to pigs as 74 naked prostitutes gyrated on 74 poles while Motley Crue throbbed through the building.

I think that Saddam fellow was the reason for Iraq. In case you forgot he started a few wars, daily broke truce agreements, killed tens of thousands of his own people, financially supported Palistinian terrorism, and was a free radical in an already unstable Middle East.

Whilst I’m glad bin ladin has finally been removed, one must not forget the 100,000 Iraqis whose lives were taken against international law using the excuse of Bin Ladin to pursue their own political aims.

I think one initiative we should pursue is to let it be known that any Islamic terrorists bodies will be dressed in a Lady Gaga Pork Chop turban, wrapped in an Israeli flag, and buried upside down in a Catholic cemetary (maybe with an issue of Swank – Muslim Apostate Hotties edition, for good measure) after death guaranteeing that Good ole’ Allah won’t be allowing them into his super-terrorist club after death.

beng,

Fox News has always spelled it that way. Perhaps because I read Fox, I have not noticed others spelling it that way now. Which outlets have changed since the killing?

I like the spelling “Ass-ama”, it “covers” both of them.

Actually joking aside you make a very good point, he does not deserve to be treated according to a religion he did not follow, hundreds of thousands of murdered muslims can testify to that. He is responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths most of them muslim women and children, old and young. He really truly does not deserve any respect whatsoever, he allowed his victims none whatsoever. The time for hand wringing appeasement is over, the time for wishy washy fear filled moral relativism is over.
Make it fully known to all followers of the death cult using islam as cover that their corpse will if found will be treated with the contempt they showed their victims, no 72 virgins, no meeting Allah in the muslim heaven, this is the price they pay, the ultimate price. Making a concrete promise that all islamofascist mass murderers that their corpse will be so treated that entry to hell will be the only destination.
A death cult like islamofascism can only be combated in this way, they dream of entry to heaven, deny them this goal and many would begin to realise that the price for their killing spree is simply not worth it. If just half can be convinced that their remains will be treated in a way that guarantees their soul is sent to hell it would save many lives.
They say that you should never wrestle with pigs in the sty, you both get dirty but the pig loves it. Time to really get serious and push their buttons, time for real rough eye for an eye justice, time to let the killers know there will be no heaven at the end. We know that many failed suicide bombers actually believed they would enter heaven, take that belief away and fewer would take the risk.

Thanks for the info Larry. As you know there is a wealth of data on special forces operational methods, any would be jihadist only has to look on the internet. The 100 quote came from the UK mail, nut a full MSM search brings a multitude of incorrect assertions, in the vacuum of hard evidence the MSM simply makes it up.
We have hundreds of books detailing special forces methods, books on the SAS/SEALs/Delta etc so I dont think a detailed time line would give our enemies any intel they could not gather from elsewhere. BTW IMHO there is too much reliance on belief and hard evidence based fact is getting harder and harder to come by, everywhere you look in the MSM you can feel it like a rising tide of black sludge. All I want is the truth, the facts and then I can celebrate with everyone else.

“I think I would call it revenge, not justice”

Revenge, or justice, take your pick. They were both served well.
But just because they put a bullet in his head, and fed his corpse to the fish, doesn’t mean they went after OBL with any kind of prejudicial attitude. It was just the most efficient, and expedient, way to exterminate, and dispose, of a dangerous, snake.

Without pointing at any single poster in particular, I find the level of distrust and disbelief which many express quite startling.
Trust is a given which we begin life with. It takes a series of traumas to warp it into distrust. Sadly, all too many of us have been lied to, exploited, defrauded, (and so forth,) all too many times, (beginning with the commercials for Chocolate Sugar Bombs Cereal we absorbed, as mush-brained children watching cartoons.) Rather than a given, Trust has become a rarity. In the place of Trust we have a chronic suspiciousness, verging on becoming a national paranoia.
I recently had to comfort a small girl who’d had her feelings hurt by other children, and she asked me, in a quavering wail, “Why do people act mean and tell lies? Can’t they see how much nicer the world would be if they wouldn’t?”
From the mouth of babes….

Probably true, if viewed in isolation, but the one element you are missing is that if the exact details are officially confirmed, you remove uncertainty about methods. That uncertainty is essential to ensure that there always remains doubt about the validity of their information about what “probably” happened.
There is a reason they often use the phrase “I can neither confirm or deny”. If you do either one, you are in fact giving out information. If you deny an event happened you are still giving valuable information.
Like Thomas Edison and his experiments regarding light bulb filaments. He learned lots of things that “did not work”, those experiments were not failures they just confirmed a negative outcome.
That is why the military will never explicitly confirm the presence of nuclear weapons or specifically deny their presence. Part of information security is preserving uncertainty about details the other side believes are correct. Each uncertain detail is one more possible error that must be accounted for in their planning. The more certain the information, the fewer situations the bad guys must plan and prepare for.

Your conspiracies are worse than the facts as far as known holes. And if I recall your previous claims of age – you were never in Laos – since you were not born then. nice try tho at shortening your name to remove the tracks from your previous postings elsewhere on the net.

So many folks believe the garbage that comes from corporate media. Others are easily turned away from truth by the slightest hint of character flaw in the messenger. Then there’s the army of paid government liars who troll around the internet spewing government positions and attacking intelligent opposition. I for one will not be so easily fooled, and many many others have publicly questioned the Osama legend.
High-level intelligence insider states unequivocally that Osama bin Laden was dead for years and kept on ice

[someone said] “So you think a petrol fire can melt all the steel”
I take it you never took a structural engineering course in your life? I studied Architecture in college extensively. First of all the fire just has to get hot enough to weaken the steel’s load bearing ability not “melt” it,

I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that people don’t know that steel gets softer as it gets hotter. But you’d think most people have seen a blacksmith at least in a movie heating up steel so it’s malleable on an anvil using a BFH (big effing hammer). I use a torch to bend steel rebar on occasion. It gets pretty easy to bend before it starts to glow. I basically control the radius of the bend by how hot I let it get. By the time it’s glowing it’ll just fold over on itself with zero radius like a wet noodle.

The location for the Osama bin Laden assassination was staged in the PMA Kakul backyard for its close proximity to provide a coverup operation. This drama in Abbottabad was staged to justify US withdrawal from Afghanistan. It would have been very embarrassing for USA to leave Afghanistan without showing the world that it had completed its mission of getting Osama. A complete fabrication that reminds me of WMD in Iraq.

Dave Springer, I remember a sequence from the 1959 American Civil War film “The Horse Soldiers” which depicted Union soldiers heating iron rails over wood fires before wrapping them around telegraph poles. I later learned that these “Sherman’s neckties” were standard practice during the war. So yes, when the towers collapsed, I was ready to believe it was due to heat-induced metal fatigue.
Ya gotta hand it to those 9/11 conspirators: they were laying the disinformation groundwork 140 years before the towers fell! 🙂

First of all, I think I can speak for most Canadians in commending the US in meting out justice to bin Laden.
On that topic, I see that Mr Watts has let you folks play cat-and-mouse, to exercise your hunting skills by allowing some 9/11 conspiratorial nuttery into this compound. I hope that I don’t ruin anyone’s entertainment by reminding you that you can never, ever, under any imaginable circumstances, convince those folks otherwise. They’re almost bad as the UN-IPCC.
