Friday Funny – Congressional Frosh

Elmer Beauregard of Minnesotans for Global Warming writes in with today’s funny: M4GW’s Newest Song – I’m a Denier

He writes:

It’s a parody of “I’m a Believer” written by Neil Diamond and performed by the Monkees. This version was written by Elmer Beauregard and Brian D. Smith and performed by Elmer and the M4GW players.

This song is in honor of all the new Republican Freshman entering Congress and the Senate most of whom are Deniers and proud of it.

I think this is song may be our “Tour de Farce”

Well at least he didn’t choose Manfred Mann’s “Blinded by the light”. Watch below.

Well done Elmer!
Minor hiccup with the lyrics. They should be:

There’s a trace
Of doubt in my mind.

And commiserations to the drummer. We all have a burden to bear.
I’d use the song as my theme but I’m an infidel and active heretic.

As someone who grew up in north-central ND and remembers (not fondly) what 45-50 degrees BELOW zero F. felt like: I’ll always have a soft spot for my M4GW neighbors to the east. People who are from parts of the country where 15 degrees ABOVE zero F. is a really cold day have NO IDEA what 50 below feels like. . . .

November 5, 2010 10:21 pm

maybe M4GW can do this one:
Imagine there’s no cold in the Arctic
It’s easy if you try
Warming at the South Pole
Above us polar bears that have died
Imagine all the stations
Recorded, not repor-or-or-orted
You may say I’m a believer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will live as drones
Imagine there’s no money
Only serfdom everywhere
Al Gore in a Gulfstream
Pachauri in a bed
Imagine all the people
In Zhivago ho-ome-steads
Yo-o-o-o-ou
You may say I’m a believer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will live as drones
Imagine cat 5 hurricanes
Tornadoes from the sky
Floods, dust storms, and starvation
Children only cry
Don’t think so? There’s no pressure,
Red button, you will di-i-i-i-i-ie
You may say I’m a believer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will live as drones
Imagine there’s no science
An Inconvenient is the Truth
The IPCC the only text book
The consensus thinks for you
Imagine all the pupils
Learning controlled view-ew-ew-ew-ew-ews
You may say I’m a believer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will live as drones

I can almost imagine them making a parody of California Dreamin’ regarding a recent election result…

Not bad… well actually it is. It’s awful! I support the sentiments fully, but come on folks, we can do better than this, can’t we? They can’t sing or play, and what’s with the wonky Autotune at the end? My point is: how is the media expected to take notice of this when it’s so amateurish? (And no it doesn’t take any sort of big money to be able to actually play and sing, just basic talent.)
Sorry, I was just very disappointed.

It’s no more amateurish than Al Gores’ mocumentary on global warming IMO.

Well done M4GW!
Love it! Particularly like the Benny Hill-esque chase over the field at the end.

Can someone please write out the lyrics for me? I have always had difficulty hearing lyrics but I want this one!

Come on, David, lighten up. It’s humor, and not meant to be high art. Sure, it’s a bit goofy- that is part of its charm, and adds to the humor.
It’s become easier to laugh and poke fun at the Warmistas, especially since they are losing, and keep providing the skeptics/climate realists (aka “deniers”) with such great material, for which we should thank Gore, MM, hansen, et al. The Warmistas are indeed their own worst enemies.

very funny. I went to the website and found Frozen Wasteland, also very funny and well done. Got to love it….especially the MM drummer…THANKS.
OT:I just did a parody on Keith Olbermann on You Tube. If you cant stand him, it is pretty good i think. Click my name above…

Second the motion. (Hearing aids…both ears and it still doesn’t help much with computer videos. TV is always on close-captioned).
The visuals sure take you back to the old “Monkees” shows. That bit at the end with the pointless chase in the field was classic “Monkees,” however someone pointed out above that it was typical of a Benny Hill ending. I’m thinking Benny Hill was first with that bit.

You make your anti-CAGW video, and we’ll compre it to those of M4GW.

‘You provide hope that in some future moment we here in Minnesota will be remembered for something other than inflicting Al Franken and Jesse Ventura on the world.’
As an occasional visitor from UK to Rochester, Mn, I was always under the impression that you also laid claim to Bob Dylan and The Artist Formerly Known As…….
For which, along with M4GW, I think your state can claim some considerable kudos.

‘Hmmmm, Doesn’t this imply deniers are a load of Monkeys…’

Nope. In honour of the writer of the original song, they are Diamond Geezers.

Excellent! I e-mailed M4GW last Christmas to suggest that they could use “Imagine” to make a great spoof song – it could hit on many levels, too! I like your version.

To Lucy Skywalker:
Here are the lyrics …
Thought the Earth was heatin’ up like a Foreman grill
I thought the poles were meltin’ like a fondue pot
I was a greenie weenie
I hated SUVs
I used to cringe when cows would cut the cheese.
Then I checked the facts
Now I’m a denier
We can all relax
The planet’s just fine
It was all a hoax
(Ooh …) I’m a denier, the world’s not on fire, it’s just a lie.
It turns out global warming’s just a Ponzi scheme
Seems the more lies they told the more money they got
They got Nobel prizes
And an Oscar too
Seemed like there was nothin’ we could do
Then came Climategate
Now I’m a denier
There is no debate
Or doubt in my mind
It was all a hoax
(Ooh!) I’m a denier, the world’s not on fire, it’s just a lie.
Well, all right …
(Instrumental)
They got Nobel prizes
And an Oscar too
Seemed like there was nothin’ we could do
Then came Climategate
Now I’m a denier
There is no debate
Or doubt in my mind
It was all a hoax
(Ooh!) I’m a denier, the world’s not on fire, it’s just a lie.
Then came Climategate
Now I’m a denier
There is no debate
Or doubt in my mind
I’m a denier yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah …
I’m a denier
Yeah, I’m a denier …
Etc.

I always appreciate the M4GW guys. It is great to be able to poke fun at something that too many people take way too seriously.
As far as it being a little campy, lighten up Chester. It is supposed to be in fun. No it isn’t the Minute Waltz, but it is quite entertaining.
Best wishes to the M4GW guys from your neighbor Northern WI.

Hehehe, excellent. But just in the interests of accuracy, Anthony: “Blinded by the Light” belongs to Bruce Springsteen 🙂
