I have a few very important (and personal) announcements to share with the WUWT community because they will impact content and moderation over the next few weeks. Please take a moment to read this.
1. There is a pressing and very serious medical challenge in my family that will require surgery and rehabilitation time. I can’t and won’t go into details. This will require me to take periods of time away from WUWT over several weeks if not months. I don’t know the full time impact yet. This coming Friday and perhaps Saturday I’ll be offline.
2. That said, I welcome the help of any who wish to help with moderation or who wish to submit stories and essays. We could use the help of a moderator from midnight to 4AM PST. I know we have a few regulars that post during that time, and if you’d like to help, leave a comment please. WUWT has always had guest posts, and they will continue to be welcome. Leave a comment if you have an idea.
3. In case you missed it yesterday, the new ENSO/SST page is up and running. Be sure to bookmark it. This graphic on the sidebar is a direct link:
…plus it is also available in the header menu under Reference Pages. Other pages of reference graphics pages will be coming soon, more details here.
4. Steve Goddard told me several months ago that he would like to start his own blog, covering a wider range of scientific, social, economic and political topics than I wish to cover here at WUWT. You can see his blog at http://stevengoddard.wordpress.com
Thanks to Steve for all his contributions to WUWT over the last two years.
I’ll be continuing the Sea Ice News feature every Sunday.
5. For those of you wondering about the upcoming surfacestations project paper, let me say that it is now mostly out of my hands and will not be impacted by item 1. I have a team of co-authors with far greater skills than I working on it. I’m pleased with the current draft having survived a critical review designed to strengthen it. When I have more, I’ll pass it along and of course at the appropriate time the surfacestations main page will get an update.
Thank you all for your consideration. – Anthony

My best wishes Anthony, and a prompt recovery!
Thank you for your continuing work, thank you very much. I have learned a lot here at WUWT.
Let me add my voice to the torrent of well-wishers. All the best, and may you soon be back with successful surgery and recovery behind you.

All the best Anthony for you and your family.
Hey, let’s not make this a dirge! Anthony and his family will be fine, and WUWT will carry on, spunkier than ever.
My wife complains that I spend “too much time on the blogs,” but in these days it’s mainly on this one, a source of continuing stimulation, fascination, and education—even when it’s over my head, which is often enough.
Good luck, and we’ll look forward to good news.

“Watt” everyone else said. Best wishes to you and your family.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Best of luck, Anthony. Our prayers are with you.
Health and family come first. Take care and thank you for all that you have done and do. Prayers for healing and recovery.
I wish you well. Probably the most reasonable website on the planet. A pleasure to read and always, always, gentle, logical and balanced.
Thank you
Anthony,
As a lurker and infrequent poster all the best wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery to the affected member of your family
Get well.
I certainly hope that all will resolve well for you and your family. If there is anything I may do to help, you know my real email address. Since I am retired and on line trading my IRA during normal working hours when the market is open, I have available time when others may have to be producing for their places of work.
Anthony,
I wish your family all the best.
Anthony:
All the best. Thoughts are with you and your family.
Regards
Mike Hodges
Anthony, best of luck to you and yours. You do a helluva job here and anything that causes you misery is shared by us all.
Anthony, (& any others facing such issues)
Because a person dear to me has an ongoing serious medical problem, also with surgery and rehabilitation, I am aware of the personal resources and time you will devote to your family. Our best wishes to you and your family.

I found I could not spare the time to keep folks informed directly via e-mail or phone and so use a password protected site with no comments. Apparently there is a pre-packaged or commercial site hosting such a server but I did not go that route. By writing something almost daily, I have also created documentation of what happened when, where, and so on. Much of this would now be a jumble of memories (if not lost). Now I can search the file for my own need or refer a late-comer (say an old high school friend or long-lost cousin) to the postings. About 6 months ago I posted a summery report and can point anyone to that for a quick catch-up. Our problems started in June, 2009 but didn’t escalate to ‘serious’ until Friday after Thanksgiving. It took me until Dec. 4 to get the postings started because by then I realized I could not carry on communications with the growing number of interested family and friends, and because I did not know how to set up a blog. (Our local computer shop owner did this for me in just a few minutes while I was on the phone with him.)
Good wishes to all, John
Best wishes, sir. We patiently await your return.
Anthony, prayers thoughts and hope for the future from Heather and I. In the name of Jesus Christ. I have learned much and enjoyed the education, may you continue to be a part of it.
My best wishes to you and yours. Had the rib spreaders inside my chest four years back. Pay attention to the recommended recovery paths and stay with them for the full course. I had 36 rehab visits to supervised exercise and that was a major factor in getting back to where I was before the surgery.
Kinda brings home reality, doesn’t it.
As many have indicated, we shall still be here when you return.
Taking care of family comes first.
All the best and a speedy recovery.
Thanks, Anthony, for all the tremendous work, I’ve often wondered how you put in so much time, even under perfect circumstances. Definitely understand the need to take some time out for serious family situations. Wish you and yours a successful surgery and speedy recovery.
Will continue to check in regularly, and thanks to all the guest posters and mods who keep things running . . .
As a lurker and very infrequent poster, I too offer my prayers and best wishes for you and your family.
Given the quality of many of the regular contributors and the usual tenor of this blog, I’ve no doubt it will be in good hands while yours are occupied elsewhere.
All the very best to you and yours.
Sir:
I have learned more in the 2 years that I have been reading your blog than I did in the 5 years at the University of Minnesota! I will pray for your family and a speedy recovery and hope to see you soon back fulltime on this blog
Thoughts and prayers.
