Regardless of whether Gore did or didn’t grope the masseuse, the story will never die. I don’t particularly care for Gore, but I sympathize with him on this issue. All that is needed is today’s instant media is an allegation of wrong doing to ruin one’s reputation.
Not that Gore’s reputation is anything to aspire to. His legal efforts in FL in 2000 have poisoned US politics for a generation. Americans thought they could turn it off with the election of Obama, but it has just ratcheted it another notch. I hope it ends well, but I have little faith in resolution in the short term. Gore’s holding back the tide for now. An innocent person would have made their fortune from National Enquirer by now if the story wasn’t true, yet not one muttering of an attempt to sue for libel. And time will prove why that is.

I think it is relevant. Al turned himself into a media interest gonging the crisis bell of warm temperatures. Anyone who seeks media attention or acts in a way that attracts media attention, will be accused of things they did and did not do, and will get away with or get caught redhanded doing things they shouldn’t. People like to think they can compartmentalize themselves in public and private lives. That’s a fairy tale. I find news about the public and private lives of media attracting skeptics and AGW’ers interesting and totally in keeping with this blog.

With the recent report by NOAA on the state of the climate in 2009 showing even more compelling and now almost certain evidence for global warming due to an enhanced greenhouse effect, and with the EPA rejecting skeptics claims that the EPA decisions are premature or inappropriate, this blog settles for titillation. Al Gore owes science a debt, that he can never repay.
Science is not about consensus, sound bites, scary scenarios, false (carbon credit) economies, school children force fed “green” misinformation, investments in subsidised (unsustainable) power sources, wasted funding, it’s about discovery.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t interested in this story. I’d also be lying if I said I don’t wish any ill-will towards big Al. Quit honestly, I was disappointed when I heard they weren’t going to file charges. As to the suggestion WUWT should apologize, to whom? For what? It could go something like this….”I’m sorry algore, my bad that you were a complete dolt for calling a strange woman to you hotel toward the middle of the night and met her in your birthday suit. And that people are discussing your stupidity, Mr. former VP, nobel-peace prize winner and all around mouth-piece for the carbon-credit ponzi scheme. Those of us in the harder sciences find it difficult to lend much credence to the softer sciences such as psychology and sociology. But sociology – as a science – is indeed interested in all aspects of us humans. It views all things we do as interconnected, and probes for answers to all the ensuing “wherefores” and “whys”. Somewhere in the distant future some sociologist or psychologist will do a dissertation or publish an article illuminating us as to the connection between fanaticism and libido – and Gore will figure prominently among those that make exhibit A.
The story of Mr. Gore belongs on the blog exactly because the accusations against him were also covered (either as a blog, or as thread comments).
