Great news, and a present for the many readers of WUWT. The “Our Climate” iPhone App has made it through Apple’s review process unscathed and the App is now available for download on the iTunes Store worldwide.
Here’s what the menu screen looks like:

From the website:
Our Climate is your “go-to” climate information resource. It is the most comprehensive, fun and informative climate education resource available for Apple® iOS devices, such as the iPhone® and iPod Touch® platforms.
You have all the information at your fingertips, wherever you go, to help you get a more complete picture on what is happening to our climate!
Our Climate features a number of “bite-size” climate information nuggets that you can absorb without needing a PhD in climate science! These information nuggets offer you rapid insight to some of the most interesting aspects of our climate, both today and in the past.
Try your hand at our fun climate quiz, where the answers are never really what you think at first! See if you can get your score up to that of a professional climate scientist…
With literally dozens of built-in tutorials, Our Climate will help you understand how basic climate science operates and, most importantly, help you distinguish between climate facts, climate theories and popular misconceptions.
Once you feel familiar with the basics, why not participate in our anonymous global poll on attitudes towards Global Warming? When you have expressed your views, you can then see by region how the rest of the world’s users of Our Climate have voted.
Since climate issues do feature heavily in the news, you also have a climate-centric news feed directly on the App. This offers you quick access to some of the top climate stories of the day.
Finally, Our Climate comes packed with a large number of very recent climate datasets that you can browse at your own pace, or perhaps use to settle a debate with friends! Each dataset comes with a detailed set of comments to help you understand what the data is all about.
The App’s main website is here: ourclimate.info
The app developer, Paul of Aeris Systems Pty Ltd. writes:
There’s only light feedback so far – so let’s see how it progresses in the marketplace.
Unlike scientific papers, changes to this app can be made fairly promptly, so if any material errors have slipped through, rest assured that such errata will be readily addressable. Already a few minor errata have been collected over the past week to be packaged into a V1.0.1 overnight. Please let me know if you spot anything and we will act on your feedback as promptly as we can.
The app has had many, many people contribute to it’s design, content gathering, and review. It is a joint effort of dozens of people.
There’s an old saying, “a picture is worth 1000 words”, and when it comes to demonstrating facts about climate to someone who has been oversold by a compliant and unquestioning mass media, the app makes it easy to educate them.
I had been asked to review this app. So, for “inquiring minds”, no, I earn nothing from it, just like in a scientific paper review. The app developer in Australia has put hundreds of man hours in research and software development into it. The 99 cents purchase price goes to offset his costs and time.
Now, the tearing down begins at other websites who can’t tolerate it’s presence.
The best measure of success of any iPhone app is the number of downloads. Like WUWT reaching 50 million hits today, we’ll see if it rises to the top download in its category. Please spread the word.

UPDATE: For Windows users and others without iPhones:
For those without a mac or an iphone, there are iphone emulators and emulator websites you can download to run this application.

Dear Dr. Schnare, you wrote:
“Need to fix one question in the test. As a matter of law, in Mass. v. EPA, the Supreme Court held that CO2 is a pollutant. The term is a defined term under the Clean Air Act. Thus, NOx SOx and CO2 are all legally pollutants.”
I think that to say the least, it’s a bit of a misunderstanding of yours what the application is trying to build upon. It is building on science – you may even call it the official science – and science knows no borders. It is international. And it is very clear that globally, CO2 is surely not a pollutant.
Whether or not the United States have scientifically incompetent judges who decide to redefine the notion of “pollutants” so that it crazily includes CO2 has absolutely no impact on the global science – and on Australian iPhone appmakers such as Aeris Systems.
Please get rid of the quote marks around greenhouse (in greenhouse effect).
Despite questionable scientific usage, greenhouse effect is correct English language requiring no special punctuation.
Do not be the guy that uses theatrical fingerquote gestures in casual conversation.
Works nicely on the Ipod Touch, and only 59p in the UK!
Very cool.
Now, ‘DROID, …….. please.
I’m not an iphone user either. Any chance of a web-based version, or maybe a version showing in adobe flash? I’d happily pay $30. Maybe more…
Pamela Gray: Have patience. There are persistent rumors that Apple will announce a new deal with Verizon in early 2011. I have delayed my upgrade to IPhone 4 until this occurs. I agree AT&T sucks.
Re: All the iPhone refuseniks
So buy an iPod touch. Cool gadget, no service fees, just needs wifi.
Yahoo another app to play with and great for a non techie like me. Thanks developer and team. And Anthony and WUWT for promoting it.
I’ve had a quick look and would suggest drop the reversed out text. It quickly becomes a pain to read.
Just made the download. Very interesting.
Love the quiz, can’t wait to get it out in the pub tommorrow night. I know just the person to find out how much they really do know.
Any one tried downloading it to an iPad. It uses the same OS as the iPhone (just better resolution)…
Nice. Android please!
I would gladly pay you Tuesday for a Blackberry App today . . .
I was just surfing around and the program froze my phone when I tried to look at Climate 101.
I think “greenhouse” effect should always be in quotation marks since it borrows a term from a legitimate well understood effect and tries to apply it to a totally different poorly understood concept. The earth’s atmosphere does not behave like a greenhouse.
The quiz worked okay.
Widgets would be great.

Absolutely no ATT signal here, and my local service is ATT. Also no DSL service here ATT doesn’t want to repair/upgrade 40 year old telephone lines to meet requirements for DSL. There fore no high speed. Currently using Sprint cell service unlimited roaming with Samsung inspiration 30 and most times hit a verizon signal. our only option for high speed is satellite service and the cost is very prohibitive for our current financial condition. Oh Well some day.
In the mean time will continue with the old very slow due to cable conditions dial up.
Have a good day all and have fun with the new app.
Bill Derryberry
Count me as another blackberry user who’d buy this app!
Android 2.2 phone here.
Under “Climate Drivers” the sun should get credit for being the DC term. All of the AC variations are subordinate to the fact that the sun shines.
I just bought the app, and there is a lot of cool stuff in it. Will there be additions and updates as time passes?
Errant thought. Have you thought about using phone cameras and the phone GPS services for the surface station study documentation? I realize it’s about finished in NA, or is that just the US? In other areas people could take the picture put the Lat, Long to it and email it to you. People probably already are, so I sorry if I’m covering old news.

iPod Touch owner here.
No monthly fee – I can use it on my home WiFi or any free WiFi I can find. Both McDonalds and Starbucks are now providing free WiFi nationwide (US) so with “OurClimate” I now have the climate in my pocket. (Right next to the “hole in my pocket” from the “Yellow Submarine”.)
Lots of good info in it. Thanks.
Will there be an Android version?

Okay – I have downloaded IBBDemo2 since I don’t have an iPhone or IPad. Can anyone talk me through what to do next?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can.
