I never thought I’d find myself agreeing with and laughing along with form President Bill Clinton. But when his former boss disses the Goreacle, perhaps it is time to rethink some views.
From the Wall Street Journal, this gem of a sound bite:
Former President Bill Clinton made a return to Washington’s public life, speaking to the annual Gridiron Dinner as a stand-in for President Barack Obama […]
Elsewhere in his remarks, he noted he was speaking on the night before the start of spring, “otherwise known to Al Gore as proof of global warming.”

Oh, so it is OK for you to disparage people, even former presidents, but not for your posters. Do you think, just maybe, that you have a skewed view of the world where it is OK to slam dems but not repubs? I do…
The 1930’s see peace in Europe and most of the world as well. Germany was rearming (and was the most prosperous nation in Europe) and Japan was conducting a brutal war in China. Likewise, in the 1990s, a certain terrorist group formed and began bombing American targets. I suppose that counts as peace, as we really didn’t fight back? And how many places did Clinton deploy troops? What was that place in southern Europe we bombed? Was that peace?
And which policies of the Clinton Administration can we directly link to prosperity? Maybe it was Al Gore’s invention of the internet?

Here’s the latest wacked-out AGW claim: Flowers Losing Scent Due to Climate Change
http://news.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNews/Malaysia/Story/A1Story20100322-206015.html
Note that there’s no mention of any application of that “scientific method” thing — some professor at a Malaysian university simply declared it to be true, and so verily it is. Look for this new AGW “fact” to appear in your kids’ textbooks next year.
The article also states that Kuala Lumpur has had to take somewhat drastic measures, eliminating the planting of flowers in public areas because they were “dying too fast”. In fact, he says, “The aroma producing chemical compounds in flowers dry up faster now compared with before.” Really? When was “before”? A hundred years ago? Two months ago? And how did he establish that chemical compounds are drying up faster due to warming? With a controlled experiment? No mention of that. If his scientific method follows the Gore/IPCC model, it probably went something like this: “Hmm, flowers aren’t doing so well. Couldn’t be soil quality, amount of water, quality of seed stock, or anything like that. No, the only plausible explanation is that the planet is getting hotter, because if there’s one thing we know for certain, it’s that tropical flowers don’t like warmth. And we know that global warming is caused by CO2 emissions. Therefore, man-made global warming is killing off flowers, and with them, birds, bees, and farmers. Call the press.”
Then there’s this:
“Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) director-general Datuk Dr Abdul Latif Mahmod said recently the extreme weather change might affect the life span of trees as a result of lighter or heavier rain.
‘We should look at how trees can be mutated so that they will not be destroyed.'”
I love it — straight from whimsical hypothesis to policy recommendation! No need to bother with troublesome experiments or any of that stuff. In the brave new world of AGW, it goes like this: “Hey, it might be possible that changes in temperature will cause changes in rainfall, and if that happens, then perhaps that would adversely affect trees. Let’s start genetically mutating trees to compensate.”
“OK, but you said that AGW might cause *more* or *less* rainfall. Which condition should we try to genetically adjust for?”
“Either! Both! Who cares? Hillary Clinton said the US taxpayer is going to fund it all anyway.”

Yes, the hysteria is building up, now that “climate change” has become such a joke, and this time it’s about air pollution killing people, rather than carbon dioxide killing the planet. The new line is that all these “green” taxes are for your own good, and specially designed to make you healthy, rather than carbon taxes rigged to make a few people obscenely rich.
This is from today’s London Evening Standard:
http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-23817516-road-pollution-kills-5000-a-year-in-london.do

Road pollution “kills 5,000 a year in London”
MPs today called for a transport revolution to stop thousands of Londoners dying prematurely each year because of traffic pollution.
A report from the Commons environmental audit committee says pollution could be killing 50,000 people a year nationally with between 3,000 and 5,000 dying nine years early in the capital. The report warns that if these figures are accurate, traffic pollution would be causing more deaths than passive smoking, road accidents or obesity and costing the economy £20 billion a year.
It calls on the Government and Boris Johnson to radically step up action. “The fact that thousands of people are dying in London in 2010 because of air pollution is a national disgrace,” said Tim Yeo, chairman of the committee. “Pollution from road vehicles causes the most damage to health and we must generate the political will for a dramatic shift in transport policy if air quality is to be improved. This means removing the most polluting car and lorries from the road, cleaning up the vehicles that remain and encouraging smarter choices about transport. “If we can do that we will all breathe more easily.”
He said new laws were needed as the Clean Air Act was introduced in 1956 following the Great Smog of London in 1952 which killed 12,000. Mr Yeo added: “These days it’s not sulphur dioxide from coal fires that’s the main problem, but tiny particles produced by cars, trucks and lorries.”
The committee said the Government was flouting EU safety rules on levels on pollution. “In some of the worst affected areas, often in the poorest parts of our cities, this invisible killer could be taking up to nine years off the lives of people most at risk, such as those with asthma, heart disease and respiratory illnesses,” said Mr Yeo.
MPs lamented the failure of the Government to do more to clean up the environment in urban areas and warned that the UK is facing the risk of “substantial” fines for its failure to meet EU regulations.
A spokesman for the Department of the Environment said: “We take improving air quality and meeting EU targets very seriously and have already made significant achievements.”

Notice also that what this “transport revolution” is all about, or who exactly is expected to pay for it, is not described by the MPs involved, most of whom are also not named.
It really is touching how concerned our MPs are to extend the lives of British citizens. Only last week there were several articles and programs about how “we can’t afford to look after all those reaching old age”, hence the proposals for higher National Insurance taxes, and delaying the payment of pensions until 70. (The so-called “Work-Till-You-Drop” scheme).

Actually, ‘Climate’ and ‘Change’ go perfectly together, so ‘Climate Change’ must be “anti-oxymoron”.

Two worthy quotes ? From “market news” !

….nevertheless you are destined to have Cap&Trade bill issued your next summer. Science has been settled long ago by consensus among the chosen ones.
It must be assumed that as an ex-Prez, Bubba doesn’t have nearly as high-quality/volume speech-writing available to him either, so it was even more impressive. Tho possibly he got a last minute loaner from the WH staff.
I liked Obama’s line that when he asked Bubba to “stand in” for him, Big Bill supposedly responded, sure, just give him a minute to clear his calendar for the next three years.
Truth is, Bubba is still wishing the 22nd Amendment would disappear so he could have another go.
Robert E. Phelan (19:46:13) :
Keep this in mind as you read that. Clinton was NOT mocking Gore. He was mocking us. After an impossible healthcare win tonight, they are coming after us.
He may have been mocking us, but most of the democrats will soon lose the elections in November and likely will be in the political wilderness for 50 years. The healthcare bill will likely never go into effect, repealed by the re-elected republicans.
37 state attorney generals are going to take this bill to court, it will never see the light of day. Reid, Pelosi and Obummer will point fingers with it, that’s about it.
There will be a burst bubble in healthcare stocks with this awful bill.
Republicans won’t be able to fix much of anything else, nobody will repeal Nixon Shock or the profitable good ‘ol days of Walton’s ‘executive branch’ quail hunter buddies.
No third party will emerge, no revolt. I just worry about violence. Bricks are being tossed through the windows of DNC headquarters here and there.
It’s sad that climate skeptic so often just means “Republican.”

Red-Green AGW Fraud exposed:
“Although wind power is expensive, the industry has boomed because of the “renewable obligation” subsidy system, under which consumers pay roughly double the normal price for energy from wind.”
…-
“Feeble wind farms fail to hit full power
THE first detailed study of Britain’s onshore wind farms suggests some treasured landscapes may have been blighted for only small gains in green energy.
The analysis reveals that more than 20 wind farms produce less than a fifth of their potential maximum power output.
One site, at Blyth Harbour in Northumberland, is thought to be the worst in Britain, operating at just 7.9% of its maximum capacity. Another at Chelker reservoir in North Yorkshire operates at only 8.7% of capacity.
Both are relatively small and old, but larger and newer sites fared badly, too, according to analyses of data released by Ofgem, the energy regulator, for 2008.”

Speaking of the earlier comments about people skilled with tongues:
Bill Clinton is a cunning linguist!
Found this buried in an article about AGA cookers in the Telegraph. Seems very popular with the Eco-Greenos and fits their hypocritical self grandizing perfectly. Sharon Stone, Twanger Cameron, prize Charlie, Camilla Wobbley Bowels, Colin Firth….. Probably every one of them including the Nupty of Nashville.
‘…………Still, we continued to find get-outs. We work at home and use the Aga on and off all day, so we were using it at full capacity. But more and more, unease tempered my enjoyment of my juicy venison casseroles. Last year environmentalist George Monbiot launched a crusade against middle-class Aga owners. “I’ve lost count of the number of aspirational middle-class greens I know who own one of these monsters and believe that they are somehow compatible – perhaps because they look good in a country kitchen – with a green lifestyle,” he said.
The annual carbon footprint of my two-oven gas Aga is four tons, I discovered, two thirds of what an entire average British home emits in a year, a whole ton more than government targets for individual houses by 2020. In this light, my sneering at my neighbours for driving 4x4s, my rubbishing patio heaters and my obsessive recycling of the insides of loo rolls seemed deeply ironic.
Tessa Glass, a mother of two, who has an Aga in her second home (another eco crime) in Sussex refuses to believe she is an Aga lout, wilfully helping sea levels rise, all so she can scoff perfect Yorkshire puddings.
“But Aga owners are green,” she protests. “They’re the kind of people who love the country and have dogs. Apart from the footballers’ wives, that is.” She’s taken aback when I explain that flying to New York twice a year would cause less devastation to the rain forests. “La la la, not listening,” she cries.
Not listening, indeed. The list of celebrity Aga owners who also profess to be eco warriors makes hilarious reading. Sting and Trudie Styler lecture us about the Amazon but – natch – they own one. Prince Charles is forever warning us of climate Armageddon but his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, “wouldn’t cook on anything else.”
Colin Firth, whose wife runs a chichi “green” store is another fan. Not so much hypocritical as puzzling is Sharon Stone’s avowal that an Aga is the first thing she would save in a fire, though the lightest model weighs 64 stone.
I’ve been doing everything I can to offset my Aga’s footprint. I never drive and we have no separate kettle or toaster and no tumble dryer, meaning, as one school-mum friend cheerily pointed out: “whenever I walk past your house I can see your wet knickers on the cooker……….”
It’s a great idea seeing as AGW is complete bunk. Let’s all get one.
Ought to be a national referendum:
No political party may control the office of President AND both houses of Congress (because they go ape when they do).
When a wily old political animal like Clinton, sniffs the wind and starts to circle away from AGW, you just know it has the smell of failure about it.
John Galt,
In 1998 (give or take, college years are a bit fuzzy – I believe this was during the Bosnian campaign which, if I recall was not sanctioned by the UN) I was in London at 10 Downing and there were protestors outside with “Clinton = Hitler” signs. I might have a picture (haha, ever feel old to think that there was a time without digital cameras?) of it somewhere.
History isn’t always quite the way we remember it, and we all have a tendancy to remember things from a particular POV – not necessarilly the way it happened ; )
Speaking of history, it seems that it was not long ago that many people were said to be suffering from a derangement syndrome because they were convinced that a few defective ballots in Florida had caused the greatest presidential election catastrophe of all times. Perhaps some of them are cured now.
The Joke wasn’t that funny, surely? One funny, or not so funny joke, does not an angel make.
This to me shows the Clinton’s at their funniest.
