Quote of the week #31: Bubba disses the Goreacle

qotw_cropped

I never thought I’d find myself agreeing with and laughing along with form President Bill Clinton. But when his former boss disses the Goreacle, perhaps it is time to rethink some views.

From the Wall Street Journal, this gem of a sound bite:

Former President Bill Clinton made a return to Washington’s public life, speaking to the annual Gridiron Dinner as a stand-in for President Barack Obama […]

Elsewhere in his remarks, he noted he was speaking on the night before the start of spring, “otherwise known to Al Gore as proof of global warming.”

But what a tongue and Oh! what brains were in that parrot’s head
It took two men to understand one half the words he said.

Perhaps Al Gore sees the world through fire-colored glasses.

If there is one good think that’s come from Climatgate it is that more people feel it is OK to speak freely and even make jokes about the more ridiculous statements that some of the followers (‘true believers’?) come up with. I watched a show on the history channel this evening about the geological history of the world. I was surprised when they stated that regardless of how much CO2 our factories produced, the only effect would be to prolong the current 15,000 year interglacial a bit and delay the start of the next ice age.

I expect to see the Gore-gone (mythical creature that involved snake-like qualities) in my neck of the woods very soon…..( north of Montreal, Qc, Can.)
We are on the edge of that big anomaly over Baffin Island. It is about 6-7 C warmer than usual here and has been for the last month. Instead of two or three feet of snow still on the ground, the grass is greening, the birds are courting and the tulips are sprouting in the garden….about 6 weeks ahead of time…
If that anomaly ever fades quickly, I will have a lot of replanting to do this summer.

Bubba disses Gore? Nah! That’s ribbing, not dissing.

Yeah, that was a good one.
On second thought, it was kinda cruel to Cheney.

My birdfeeder is located in the South where we have a bird you Yankees have never heard of, the scythebird, also called the bubbabird. It has a razor sharp knifelike bill which it uses, after “bubbaing up” to another bird, to stab it’s victim which it then eats.
I’m not sure even my intrepid cat, Killowatt, could handle it.

I never thought I would openly applaud Bill Clinton till this wonderful day. Classic. Too bad global warming is Gore’s answer for fall as well.

If Gore is coming you had better plan to replant 🙂 However, your tulips should be fine.

Just realized I didn’t even get that joke right, was supposed to be about a feminist book store but anyway… no offence intended to anyone, just a (poor?) attempt at humor. Cheers!

I’m always impressed by the way a science geek whose first language, possibly even his second, third or … is NOT English (or ‘Melican or, as some of us say, Nacireman ), stays abreast of this stuff. Keep this in mind as you read that. Clinton was NOT mocking Gore. He was mocking us. After an impossible healthcare win tonight, they are coming after us.

I don’t think there’s any love loss between Bubba and Algore. Theirs was a marriage on convenience.

March 21, 2010 7:53 pm

BTW, it’s late march and we had snow in the deeeeeep south today.

Brings to mind an ancient saying known to old-timers:
“Many a true word is said in jest.”
On topic, here’s a well done Al Gore ribbing put to music by m4gw, the same folks that did “Hide the decline”:

At first appalled by Clinton’s election I now realize how wrong I was. Oh, how I wish for a return of those 8 years. The refrain from those on the left to those on the right who condemned the Clinton presidency was: What is it about 8 years of peace and prosperity that you object to?The new guy in the white house alluded to the idea that the Clinton presidency was an ineffectual one. Perhaps (in the presence of 10% unemployment, an anemic and jobless recovery, uncertainty, and so on) we could ask him: What is it about 8 years of peace and prosperity that you object to?

I was going to comment pretty much the same thing after seeing the h/t to Leif on the paper in the Forest Fire Journal.

5 truths about AGW* I hold to be self-evident:
1) Al Gore says we need to ask ourselves some tough questions about AGW, but when Al Gore gets asked some tough questions about AGW, Al Gore tells security to get tough with those asking the questions.
2) AGW proponents must have belonged to a cult of house painters in their previous lives because they have a predilection for whitewashing. Michael Mann inquiry? Whitewash. UEA inquiry? Whitewash. IPCC independent inquiry? Whitewash. Further note how AGW proponents believe that painting all our rooftops white will reflect sunlight and help mitigate AGW.
3) AGW is really about global cooling because it is the ultimate snowball: using middle-class taxpayers money to fund the lies that will create the policies that will tax middle-class taxpayers even more to fund even more lies that will create the next wave of policies to further tax middle-class taxpayers even more etc.
4) For some reason, AGW scientist-advocates are all scared spitless for at least a week when they hear the name “Steve McIntyre”. Which is a good thing, because that means less AGW-causing methane gas is released and helps to offset the bullshit coming out of their mouths.
5) Incredibly, everything wrong in our world can be traced back to AGW. Birds shrinking? AGW. Snowstorms? AGW. Drought? Hurricanes? Famine? Poverty? Violence? Glaciers melting? Polar bears dying? All caused by AGW. The truth is, Al Gore is solely responsible for all of these problems, especially for killing the polar bears. He really is. Because Al Gore created AGW. Remember to tell your kids.

Hi Al,
Do you ever have any regrets?
You know, like picking Joe for your running mate?
Obama almost picked you.
Wouldn’t that have been swell?
Just imagine you as VP right now.
Instead of this silly crap you’re working on and getting embarassed.
Poor Al.
