Dissecting Scotland’s economy-wrecking Net Zero plans

From NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT

Guest Post by Doug Brodie

Preamble

This is my response to the consultation invitation (by 29/1/26) on “Scotland’s Draft Climate Change Plan: 2026–2040”. By proxy, it doubles as my dissection of the economy-wrecking UK-wide Net Zero agenda. The 31-page draft plan is available here with all relevant documents here.

Introduction

I have been campaigning since the 1990s against what I now call the climate change hoax. Over the years I have written to multiple MPs, MSPs and others trying to persuade them that their climate change policies and associated energy policies are misguided, futile and extremely damaging.

For all my efforts, I never once received a credible reply to justify their policies. Replies were typically pure boilerplate such as: “we have to show climate leadership … the science is settled … 97% of scientists agree … we are in a climate emergency … renewables are cheap, clean and secure”.

In other words, nothing but disinformation, distortion and denial of true science and engineering. Decades of politician replies always conforming to the obviously-dishonest “officially approved” narrative is proof that, for a malign deep state ulterior reason, the Net Zero agenda has always been a globally-coordinated deceit to mislead and bamboozle the general public, just like Covid.

Summary

Net Zero has given us sky-high energy costs which are crippling business, rapidly hollowing out our industrial capacity and suffocating economic growth, all to no useful purpose. It has to be stopped.

The Scottish Government should never have embarked on its own Net Zero project in the first place. Energy is not even a devolved issue in Scotland and any progress (or the lack of it) is almost wholly dependent on UK government actions. Scotland is not included in world databases such as on national CO2 emissions and energy consumption, which makes it difficult to monitor progress.

The delusion that Scotland can achieve Net Zero by 2045 is proof that Scottish Net Zero is a bureaucratic going-nowhere shambles. 16 years after Scotland enacted its Climate Change Act, here we are with supposedly just 20 years to go with a hopelessly wishful-thinking draft plan that only extends to 2040! Even the Lib Dem party, all 72 of whose foolish MPs voted earlier this year for the suicidal Climate and Nature Bill, has switched its virtue-signalling Net Zero 2045 target to still delusional 2050.

Future historians will find it hard to believe that Scotland and so many other countries were taken in on such an overarching, society-upending scale by such an obvious Globalist deception.

Dependence on the UK is the Achilles Heel of Scotland’s Net Zero because UK Net Zero will hopefully be ditched after the next general election. If they have any sense, the Scottish Government will disregard the endless blather of COP30, note the IEA’s return to energy reality, note the rising tide of opposition to Net Zero around the world, accept that Net Zero is a dead duck and drop their damaging Net Zero plans.

The question is: “WHY ?” The question when economy-wrecking schemes surface is always “WHY ?”

Because they want to get rid of the carbon.

Because the goal of the globalists is to destroy Western civilization. They’ve stated as much.

After watching the events over especially the last 6 years (from Covid on) the only reasonable explanation I can think of is that the global elites want a return to the Middle Ages, economically speaking, where there’s a small group of people at the top with almost all the money and everyone else pretty much lives in poverty and props up the elites. But that’s along side of a pretty massive culling of the global population, probably somewhere around 50% minimum.

I know I keep posting this link to the cull proposed by The Optimum Trust AKA Population Matters (Attenborough, Packham etc), but here you go (note the link is the Excel Spreadsheet)

The question is: “WHY ?”

Because lots of people are making a very good living out of peddling climate change and net-zero schemes, and nobody is paid to argue against them.

Hadrian and Antoninus Pius had the right idea, keep them out…

‘Ancient Scottish natives were black’ claims children’s book in bizarre diversity driveMSN

Devolution was considered an event by Blair et al when in fact it is a glacial process. And the gap is widening all the time. But then, the Union (seemingly on its last legs) has lasted roughly a similar time to that of England and Wales as a Roman Province.

Perhaps independence is what they really need.

If Scotland were to secede from the UK, would it gain control over the North Sea oil and gas fields?

They obviously don’t need it.

If Scotland gained control of the oil and gas fields in their sector, they could sell the oil and gas to the Britain, Wales. Nor. Ireland, Ireland, and the EU countries, and they would get really rich like Norway.

Which is why it won’t happen. Those oil and gas fields are real wealth. The UK government would likely just tell Scotland to STFU, we’re keeping them. What would Scotland do? Go to war with its nonexistent armed forces?

We can dream that a descendent of William Wallace will arise from the Highlands who will go on to form a new army that will engage and defeat the British in war of independence and liberate Scotland from over a thousand years of oppression

Dream on. Without the Barnet Formula (a net inflow of raxpayer money from England) Scotland would be unable to fund its huge public sector.

The American stereotype of Scots (1 of them) is that they’re extremely thrifty. Nothing thrifty about Net Zero.

Stereotypes exist for real reasons.
Noones gonna call a German a Spaghetti or an Italian a Kraut for obvious reasons.

And the Scotts have been pisspoor for centuries and got thrifty as result.

I’d be happy, as an Italian American, to be called a Spaghetti- since it’s my favorite food. 🙂

So we can only wonder what happened to the Scotts thrifty habits. Brainwashing coming from socialist London? But why would they fall for that? They can’t possibly be worried that Scotland will get too warm.

Well, the tough ones moved to Ulster and then to America. The smart ones joined with the English to form the Scottish and English Enlightenments, but look how crazy the English are these days. There is very little that is “enlightened” coming out of the UK in modern times. They’ve been captured by the Socialists and have fallen back on superstition and medievalism.

Every Scot owns thousands of black slaves in the colonies. Everything they have is built on the backs of those slaves. They need to atone for slavery.
I learned that from a BBC documentary.

Over the years I have seen many articles stating that the Scots were going to be fabulously wealthy from the sale of their wind energy. No need for anyone to work.
It must be true.

Better get on the centuries old bandwagon of coming to America with investment and family. All those negotiated tariff agreements are coming with huge new investment commitments for America. Don’t get left behind in the stagnant net zero pools of thought control.

Totally off topic….

Owing to a recent computer crash all my browser settings are toast. The result is I am now seeing all the ads. My reaction is sheer horror. How can this site have deteriorated to the point where the editors think it reasonable to fill page after page with this stuff. Some of it on endless looping video clips.

This is not National Inquirer level, this is far worse than that.

Now you could say, just subscribe and you won’t see them. No, that is not the answer. The problem is not subscription. The problem is that no site with any self respect would mix what is intended to be serious content with this stuff. Even if it hides it from subscribers. Perhaps even more then. Makes it impossible, among other things, to send people links to articles. What, and have them bombarded by garbage? Impossible. They won’t take it seriously, and should not.

I don’t want to be associated with a site which carries this stuff. Don’t want to read it, don’t want to post to it. And I think a lot of people will feel the same. I advise you, if you do not usually see it, whether because of subscription or filters, take a look. Use a different browser. You too will be horrified.

I have nothing against ads, the site has to make a living. But not from this kind of material, its an insult to the intelligence and taste of visitors.

So, unfortunately, I am off and will not be coming here any more. I shall miss it, but its the only choice.

It is NOT A GOOD LOOK and downgrades the site’s credibility to basically zero.

The adds are quite effective in undermining all efforts to gain credibility amongst the mainstream plebs.

You should get an ad blocker. When I got my new Lenovo laptop, my tech savy son installed an ad blocker, but he did not mention this to me. Firstly try this:
Search “uBlocker Origin” from your browser’s extension store. You should also do a search for an ad blocker. There are free ad blockers available.

Awhile back I went to a website, and there first appeared in big letters: “Turn Off Ad Blocker”. No Thank you. I came right back to WUWT.

I do not use an ad blocker for the specific reason that I want to know what the various algorithms think it is that I might be interested in seeing. The WUWT feed is nearly identical to to a couple of other news sites I read daily. I agree. Its not both annoying and not a good look.

This is standard technology crap. Don’t worry though, there are things you can do to resolve this. Number one: download and install (into your browser only) “Ghostery” and the best ad blocker for your browser (I use uBlock Origin on Firefox and the built-in ad blocker in Chrome). Next, make sure your browser is configured according to a search-engine search for “how to secure my xxxx browser”, where “xxxx” is the name of your browser (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, etc). Next download and install (into your browser only) a cool utility “Highlight or Hide Search Engine Results”. This allows your search engine results to skip displaying domains you don’t want (e.g. cnn.com, nytimes.com, huffpost.com, etc). Then you can simply donate to the sites of your choice to support them.

My reason for not sending people links to this site is the small number of people who appear to believe that allowing any citizens to buy guns will solve all our government problems, people pushing vaccines are deliberately evil, and covid was a government conspiracy. In addition, that public healthcare is a communist conspiracy, and anyone to the left of Genghis Kahn is a deranged communist themselves.

It’s unfortunate, because the information on and debates about climate are invaluable. If anyone sees some of the comments, however, they can easily dismiss everything as tin-foil hat stuff, so it’s a waste of time.

I suspect that I’ll get a few put downs that will outline my point.

They never studied anything that was science and math based, so they can’t dissect an argument or research data, making them not only incapable of understanding whether something is rational or not, but also making them afraid to take a contrarian position to the mob of others like them, so they seek refuge in the crowd of similar idiots.

Very nice, Scotland doesn’t have an energy problem or a climate problem. Scotland is suffering from a crappy government problem. Crappy government is a real problem but fixing it is far more realistic than achieving Net Zero.

Edward Katz
November 25, 2025 5:58 pm

I’ll continue to assert that Net Zero is just a convenient catch phrase used by those who realize it’ll never be attained but who need to justify climate actions that negatively impact consumers financially despite having no benefits for them.
