Richard Lindzen & William Happer on The Joe Rogan Experience

This is winning and this is getting the word out to a large audience.

Richard Lindzen, PhD, is Professor Emeritus of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

William Happer, PhD, is Professor Emeritus of Physics at Princeton University. Doctors Lindzen and Happer are recognized for questioning prevailing assumptions about climate change and energy policy.

This was the best, it is exactly what we need, two of our best reaching millions.

Yes, but unfortunately, the many millions more will only listen when the lights go out.

Just because there are few comments and I am still about to finish the article, AND because it is all these two gentleman are dreaming of, let me put this up.

It is that one piece of evidence proving “climate science” wrong in its most essential claim. And because there would be a little bit of explaining and context to provide, I will just do it not. Go figure..

Ok. I really like this, but WHAT IS THE BOTTOM (X axis) measuring? Atmospheric height?

I noticed Dr Happer mention that his mother worked on the Manhattan Project at Oak Ridge during WWII. Rogan was surprised by it as was I. Info below says Dr Happer’s uncle worked on the project as well.

“William Happer’s mother, Gladys Morgan Happer, was a physician who worked at the Oak Ridge, Tennessee, site of the Manhattan Project during World War II. She was the first medical doctor at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Details of her role and influence

Family background: Born Gladys Morgan, she was a medical missionary for the Lutheran Church of North Carolina. Her brother, Karl Ziegler Morgan, was a physicist on the Manhattan Project who is known as the “father of health physics” for his work on radiation protection.Work at Oak Ridge: Gladys was recruited to the secret Oak Ridge facility by her brother because he needed a doctor for the project’s workers.

At the time, she had her young son, William, with her.Influence on her son: William Happer has stated that his mother’s involvement in the project contributed to his interest in physics. He went on to have a distinguished career as a physicist at Princeton University.

Historical recognition: Gladys Morgan Happer is recognized for her role in the Manhattan Project in books such as Their Day in the Sun: Women of the Manhattan Project, which discusses the vital contributions of women to the project.”

Science seems to run in the Happer family. The day that each of them pass on will be very sad days for science and this country.

No problem. I have a huge amount of respect for the two of them. Wish I could say that about all climate scientists.

I believe that you can say that about all scientists, as long as you rule out the ones who claim to be scientists but don’t follow the scientific method.

This was an exceptionally good discussion.

Joe Rogan appears to be very well versed on the subject. I’m impressed.

Love Happer and Lindzen, of course.

I’m always impressed how Rogan can talk intelligently with all sorts of people: scientists, entertainers, athletes, UFO proponents, politicians, etc. Not many people can do that.

Unlike almost all reporters, who are so biased they can’t see the forest, never mind the trees.

October 23, 2025 4:23 am

I watched the whole thing. Great points and conversation, which of course is why Joe Rogan’s program is so effective.

Just one minor disappointment. In two hours, there was not even one mention that, in terms of reliable scientific investigation, NO ONE “KNOWS” that incremental CO2 has had ANY actual influence on surface temperature or on any trend of any climate variable.

True that “no one knows”…but that’s kind of a tune-out for a big fraction of the audience…the I-wanna-believe-but don’t-know-what-to-believe group.

Rogan’s podcast used to be an unserious clown show, during last year or so that has changed. Hopefully he doesn’t revert any time soon.

“This is winning and this is getting the word out to a large audience.”

It’ll be even more if the entire show is put on YouTube.

Wow- up for a day and almost 5,000 comments. Rogan is the King of YouTube. I’ll have to pass the link to all the climate nut jobs I know here in Wokeachusetts. 🙂

And almost a million views!

Good for Rogan to have these two on the show. It could “move the needle” of public opinion in the right direction on “climate.”

Very good discussion, though they strayed a bit into the weeds now and then. The saying that you don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows comes to mind. Yes, the subject of climate is complex, but anyone with the ability to think for themselves, and is willing to delve a little more deeply into the subject aside from what they hear blaring from the MSM loudspeakers has the ability to see that they are being lied to about it. People who are lying to you have tells all over the place. I saw it back in 2007, when I assumed that what I’d been hearing was true, but needed to know what the actual facts were in order to argue against what I called “climate cranks”. I was shocked to discover that the “climate cranks” were actually the ones telling the truth.

The normal response of any scientist given an opportunity to talk about their work is to jump for it.

Happer said that, when he was at a federal granting agency, the only scientists that had to be forced to come and talk to him about their work were climate scientist. This suggests that even back in the 90’s they knew their theories were hollow and useless.

The Climate Alarmists knew they could not prove what they were claiming about CO2. That’s why they didn’t like being questioned. It’s still why they don’t like being questioned.

This was enjoyable. Thanks. I especially liked the reference to “Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Theory of Stupidity”. There are a lot of stupid people and reason doesn’t seem to alter their mob mentality since the stupid haven’t been exposed to reason in their education.

Profound discussion by Lindzen and Happer prompted by Joe. Corroborating their discussion, it can be shown using existing measured data that CO2 does not significantly influence climate.
Average global sea surface temperature is reported by several agencies. Given the Clausius-Clapeyron relation it is possible to calculate the increase rate in water vapor from the increase rate in SST. The relation is simply: SST rate * 0.067 * WV. SST rate is in degree per year, 0.067 is 1/1 per degree and WV, from anomalies measured and reported by NASA/RSS, is about 29 kg/m^2. The data show that in 1999-2000 the measured WV was more than twice the maximum possible from just planet warming. The assumption by many Climate Scientists that water vapor increase is just feedback from temperature increase caused by CO2 increase is thus shown to be wrong. Details of the analysis and links to the data sources are at https://watervaporandwarming.blogspot.com

The extra kick in WV around 2000 appears to be related to the 1998 super el Nino

Lindzen made a comment about global warming in rural areas being much less than in urban and suburban areas.

Here is an example of “global warming” in Vermont. that the government and most people are so hysterical about

GLOBAL WARMING IN VERMONT; very little in summer, somewhat more in winter, based on 40 years of NOAA station data

The beautiful graphs are by Willis Eschenbach. See top URL

Summer
Each year has peak temperatures during the summer months June, July, August. The below graph shows those peak temperatures in Vermont, for about 40 years.

Those temperatures were measured by the weather stations in Vermont of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NOAA

Vermont has four weather stations; Burlington, St Johnsbury, Castleton and Windsor.
New Hampshire also has four stations

The peak temperatures increased by 1.5 F over 40 years, or 0.0375 F per year.

Almost all people cannot sense the difference of 77 F and 78.5 F

Winter
A similar graph shows the minimum temperatures during the months of December, January, February

The minimum temperatures increased by 4.2 F over 40 years, or 0.1 F per year. Most older Vermonters agree, winters in Vermont have been getting warmer.
Heating demand is driven by temperature difference, which was about (65 F, indoor – 9.8 F, outdoor = 55.2 F) in 1980, and became (65 F, indoor – 14 F outdoor) = 51 F in 2020
At present, it takes 7.6% less Btu for space heating a house than 40 years ago.
