BBC Warming Arctic Claims Are Fake News

From NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT

By Paul Homewood

h/t Paul Kolk

The BBC are at it again!

Their latest report about Norway, “Tensions rise as superpowers scrap for a piece of the Arctic”, claims:

Climate scientists say the Arctic is warming four times faster than anywhere else. This impacts ecosystems, wildlife and local populations

In reality temperatures in the Arctic have been stable for the last two decade. The Arctic is not “warming” at all.

Looking further back, temperatures were at similar levels to now in the 1930s and 40s. In between that era and now, there was a plunge in temperatures, followed by a recovery:

We see the same cyclical pattern in northern Norway too:

Surface temperature changes in Alaska are dominated by Barrow, an expanding town with increased industrial purposes.

Many places have cooled since 1977…..

Good info, but the link to the Norway data is broken:

Dr Roy Spencer has a good graph on Arctic Ocean ice coverage cycles. Note that current ~20 flat line is higher that 30’s.

I’m actually sitting here in the beautiful English countryside, where I’ll be avoiding the BBC all day, I hope. I don’t even believe the first sentence – “three Chinese delegations”, bollocks.

This is just another short-pants politics narrative – yes really English UK people, despite what you may have heard, NATO really can wipe its own arse, and can really stand up to howwid Mr PutinManBad. What a pathetic organisation.

The most effective treatment for high blood pressure, is avoid listening to the Main Stream Media particularly the BBC and its sister Anglosphere counterparts.

The British believe every word uttered by the BBC it has a virtual monopoly on news and opinions particularly about global warming. If anyone has lost the argument it is this website Wattsupwiththat.com: absolutely no one in the UK has heard of it let alone log on to it. Talk about p*****g in the wind you might as well give up as far as the UK is concerned.

The UK signed up to the global warming agenda blaming CO2 emissions from fossil fuels by passing the Climate Change Act in 2008. All parties voted for it in Parliament with virtually no opposition. Since then coal mining has been halted along withy drilling in the North Sea. Petrol and Diesel vehicles are being and will be fully banned. The BBC can say what it likes about an ice free arctic for instance by this August and it will make no difference – the UK is fully committed to the net zero agenda.

I’m in the UK, and it’s my experience that every assertion you make is false.

If you bothered to look at comment threads on British websites you would see that very few people take the Climate Change Scare seriously. In fact, there is widespread ridicule and contempt for it, as there is for the BBC.

wuwt.com is essentially a US forum for debate. there is no such debate in the UK where runaway global warming is an accepted fact. The socialist agenda for net zero backed fully by the BBC is the policy .The British people voted for it giving the socialists a landslide victory and carte blanche for anything they wish to do

No matter what you say about British websites the socialist UK is fully committed to net zero by 2050 backed by the BBC with few dissenting voices. The argument is lost the UEA has in fact hidden the decline.

Do grow up and strop talking like a pathetic American child. The UK is so far from ‘socialism’ as to be laughable. Net Zero has zero to do with socialism, it’s about rigging markets for the benefit of corporations and grifters. It hurts the working majority, the very antithesis of socialism.

I read Wattsupwiththat+ other sources specifically because I don’t trust the BBC. There excuse is that Tony Blair, when he was Prime Minister said that the BBC didn’t have to put both sides of the argument i.e. balanced reporting because the science is settled. He then shackled the UK to Net Zero.

On the matter of fake news about global warming the BBC is fully backed by the socialist government and ipso facto by the UK electorate.

The numbers don’t lie.
The OBR the governments pet quango advisor on financial matters estimated back in 2024 the nation’s borrowing i.e. the gap between state revenue from taxation and state spending, in year ending April 2025 to be £87billion.
The actual number from data now in shows it was £148billion.
This matters, because it shows the incompetence of government forecasting (OBR) and adds to our fiscal burden.
This year our cost of borrowing the money to cover the nations economic activity shortfall is £108billion. That is a figure greater than every government department other than the NHS.
The UK financials now shows the second highest state spending department is borrowing costs!!!!

Quite, but if you read the article you will see their projection as recently as March this year was equally off by a country mile.
I don’t think it is easy making future projections, but financial projections are a lot easier than most, well except if you are an OBR advisory team player that is.

Here are the new 3 Rs.
Ridicule, rinse and repeat.
What else can one do to change the wrong views of the many alarmist authors who fill the climate change scene with nonsense?
Here is an analysis of why we should tease them about claims of “the hottest”.
These references from their official bodies show that (effectively) every country is claimed to be warming faster than the average.
Have fun with it.

Good time to repeat my theory that Arctic temperatures are driven by an internal sea ice cycle which in turn drives the 60-70 year cycle as seen in the graphs provided. The AMO is a good index for the changes.

The Arctic ocean is pretty well isolated by geographical boundaries. This leads to sea ice forming an insulating barrier. With more sea ice the Arctic ocean warms. This eventually starts melting the sea ice. More open water allows venting stored energy. Eventually, the loss of energy causes the water to cool and more sea ice to form. The cycle begins anew.

The cyclic storing and venting of energy affects atmospheric circulation leading to changes in cloudiness. This affects adjacent NH land and ocean areas which drives temperature changes as seen in the AMO index. The global effect is around ± 0.3 C.

Sure, it is.

One thing that has made me doubt that the warming in the Arctic has been as much has as been claimed. Is the fact that there has been little to no impact on the timing of the first snow here in England over nearly the last 50 years.

As significant warming in the Arctic should also have had a significant impact on the timing of the first snows here in England. Because early snowfall here in England is highly dependent on the supply of cold air coming from the Arctic. While there is also other factors involved in the timing of the first snows, like the sea temps around the UK and the weather patterning bringing down the cold air.
Any significant warming of the Arctic would certainly have caused the first snows to trend later into the season. That has not been happening.

1. Arctic Amplification is an artifact of Temperature Anomalies

2.Arctic Surface Stations Records Show Ordinary Warming

3.Arctic Warmth Comes from Meridional Heat Transport, not CO2

Clive Best provides this animation of recent monthly temperature anomalies which demonstrates how most variability in anomalies occur over northern continents.

It’s not just the Arctic, glaciers again. Sign up for their newsletter. “One challenge with quantifying overshoot impacts is a lack of suitable climate projections. Only a few climate models that participated in the sixth phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP6) have run global temperature overshoot simulations……We performed one idealized linear increase and one overshoot experiment that reached the same temperature level after 250 years, after which the temperature was held constant (Fig. 1a)……Given the policy relevance of these overshoot and stabilization scenarios, ideally, more ESMs[Earth System Models] will produce such data in the future.”   Computer Game?

What a remarkable decline in the monthly variability between the 1925-1965 warm AMO phase and the post 1995 warm AMO phase. Weather whiplash must be running out of steam.
