Monday Mirthiness – The ‘Hockey Hole’

You’ve heard of the “hockey stick“, that infamous climate doom graph created by by Dr. Michael Mann, patched together using some shonky statistical methods, and exposed by McIntyre and McKittrick as being spurious. Mann has made a career out of defending his statistical sausage, and now it seems karma has come full circle.

So, let me introduce you to the newly created “Hockey Hole.”

As we reported here, it seems that combative climate scientist Dr. Michael Mann has been found to have made false statements to court in Mann vs. Steyn and has been ordered to pay a huge amount in legal fees. Steve McIntyre takes it all apart here.

Gosh, that’s tooooo baaaaad. Of course, few people were surprised that Mann would do this. Reason? As I have opined in the past, Mann’s ego is so large he can’t fit through most doors.

Josh is on the case with a new cartoon.

Mann’s not in a hole unfortunately.

The sugar daddy that financed the whole case is going to pick up the costs out of spare change, this was never about right and wrong, it was simply about using money and the court process as a club to beat heretics who dispute the religion of man made global warming.

I have heard speculation that if Mann does get his penalties paid by some NGO, that could be taxable income. Just speculatin’.

As he keeps losing these nuisance lawsuits we can only hope that he will outlive his usefulness to “The Cause”. He’ll became more trouble than he’s worth.
Then he’ll find out just how loyal his financial backers are.

This is always fun:

He dug the foundation.
Now all the cartoon needs is some Lew-paper and an outhouse.

The IPCC “jumped the shark” into pure advocacy when they embraced MBH98, Mann’s hockey stick paper.

What an appropriate cartoon. Mann is getting now what he so richly deserves.

Is it deliberate that Mann always presents himself as a look alike to Popeye’s adversary

Mann proved he is a serial liar in the court room and his personal life. Any bets that his professional work is littered with the same level of ethics?

“Professional” work. Fixed.

Actually, from what I can see, basically everything he has produced has been decidedly anti-professional.

I bet Mann garners a contempt of court finding before he pays up.

I think it’s more likely that someone has a private chat with Judge Irving, and tells him all about “the cause”.

All of Judge Irving’s orders on the defendents motions and the denial of the plaintiffs motions have been appealled to the Appeals court, so Judge Irving is now out of the picture, unless there CA send one of the orders back down on remand

I think, him being at the bottom of a cesspit, would’ve been more appropriate.

Story tip, another fake hockey stick graph.

Yet another climate scare/propaganda story that has just been released and repeated all over the internet.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-14571397/Belizes-Great-Blue-Hole-concerning-secret.html

The storm count proxy they have studied shows variability over millennia but more storms later in the period – but starting long before man-made climate change was a factor.

They have produced a hockey stick by adding a projection for the 21st century onto the end of the data, without this there is nothing outside the apparent established ‘normal’ range.

Hmm. According to the World Bank, Belize and its offshore economic zone see 1.2 major storms per year ranging from tropical storms (most) to category 5 hurricanes (least). That would amount to 120 such storms per century, far more than 45 predicted by this study.

I have written to the Royal Society describing Mann’s style, career and failures , particularly his nasty nature and unscientific practices. Asking why they elected him to the membership. No reply yet.

Uh..Yes, Mann has to pay a few millions for this,
but the result of the court case is still a win for him as Simberg and Steyn were convicted.
To make matters worse, Steyn would be a bit crazy to go for a retrial given his poor health an the fact that he got out of it with very little cost.

This looks a lot like a win win for the climate alarmists!
(maybe a bit costlier than intended, but this amount is trivial in the bigger scheme)

Mann’s reputation is ruined as a result of this trial, and that is an unequivocal defeat for climate alarmism.

The Nobel committee would have to be sued

Nobel Committee: The organization won it. It’s not a personal prize to people belonging to an organization.

So, Mann”s out half a $Million… What’s that, compared to the many, many $Billions his nonsense has cost taxpayers and consumers? Not to mention the many millions of minds he has damaged; probably permanently?
